  • @NeroAtsumori They didnt exist 20 years ago.

  • awsome song ever

  • Alkaline Trio is pop-punk-super-happy-fun-times-awesomeness.

  • @VenomousWhale and they fucking love doing drugs. punk. Chicago does it best.

  • Pop punk? Alkaline Trio is far from pop punk, maybe a handful of songs could be classed as pop punk but they're not, in general, a pop punk band. And emo? No.

  • @jamesbullet55 i wuld say alternative

  • @jamesbullet55 Well i'm not sure what band you're listening to, but they're hardly "far from pop punk"

  • @seanpmcdonald So you could quite easily see "All The Small Things" in the middle of Goddamnit? Hm...

  • @jamesbullet55 Not all the small things, but they are close to older blink sound, wich is great pop-punk

  • Pop punk...? Emo...? Who give a fuck, it's good music no matter the genre it's in.

  • I'm white and I like Alkaline Trio, even back in '97 when they were just another band at the Metro

  • I like emo songs...

they serve as catharsis (hurray for grade 11 english invading my vocab) for an otherwise stressful life

  • No words for how awesome this song is.

  • my fucking god sence when was so called emo a music genra like our music or get the fuck out of here

  • @ethanjoncas roughly the mid-80's has "emo" been a genre

  • Guys, it is possible to be both emo -and- pop-punk by their basic definitions. Anything can be "emo." Soul, R&B, Rock, Alternative, Pop-punk, punk. Emo simply implies emotional. It does not imply a musical style or finite chord progression.

  • kind of a sad song really

  • 88 fingers louie is just as good if not better than slapstick

  • Thumbs up if you liked them when they were Slapstick.

  • @jvmoran Slapstick rules

  • @jvmoran Only Dan was in Slapstick...He was also in a band called, "Tuesday" they were amazing!

  • ohh my punk babes. love them. seeing them in 19 days : )

  • cringe was my favorite

  • You'll always feel this way!

  • definately not fucking pop-punk lmao. Straight up punk bud.

  • @dullcoloredhearts THANK YOU.

  • dude the song cringe is not avalible on ur thing :(

  • @Deathandbliss I know, but I don't have the time to deal with that bs right now. I'll get it back up soon.

  • @punkCDsampler thanks :)

  • @Shadwlink32 hi

  • @Deathandbliss [Nisaras94] has a vid of cringe up but it doesnt show in the search results, you have to look on his channel to see it.

  • This album got me through my first bad break up.. funny how I still remember that.

  • I spend every summer listening to my collection of every alkaline trio album, and im seeing them in august:D gonna be amazing!

  • its back!!!!

  • You told me that the daylight burned you And that the sunrise was enough to kill you.

    I said "maybe you're a vampire."

You said "it's quite possible, I feel truly dead inside."

  • You told me that you want to die. I said "I've been there myself more than a few times, and I go back every once in a while." You called me lucky, you called me lucky. You said "tonight is a wonderful night to die." Asked how you could tell. You told me to look at the sky. Look at all those stars. Look at how goddamn ugly the stars are.

  • i always come back to this album everytime my life starts to suck a lot.

  • You guys are fools! Emo is/was a trend. This is poetry with a rythym. Poetry has dealt with death and suicide for centuries . "To be, or not to be" is probably the most famous quotes of all time. Apparently William Shakespeare must of been an "emo" kid.

  • @R1O7ZZZZ Couldn't of said it better myself.

  • FINALLY someone who REALLY gives their opinion on stars...they aren't THAT pretty XD

  • this is what emo used to sound like, emo derived from punk, emo is just punk with more depressing and suicidal lyrics

  • I fucking hate when people categorize bands, its so stupid. If you weren't a fake mother fucker you wouldn't have to do so, music is for the ears not the scene.

  • matt skiba is an original angster

  • @notmyname6

Your comment was up a full day and NOBODY liked it yet?!

  • Comment removed

  • emotional punk now they're just plain emo

  • emotional punk ow they're just plain emo

  • im sick of this ...ohhh pop punk...ohhh emo....WHO GIVES A GOOD GODDAMN!!!!!!!!its good fuckin music....listen and enjoy.....stop being such buttfuckers

  • @fukinpunx i know what u mean, good music is good music, i just recently found that out a couple of years ago. im probably the only black guy that likes this band, i just love good music whatever the genre may be

  • @capostatus937 your a gentleman and a scholar my good sir

  • Comment removed

  • <3 this song.. although it doesnt have to be either a rope or a bottle.. there'a always slitting your wrists or over dosing.. or a bullet to the head.. dont go for the pills though..tried them myself, they just made me puke the whole day after.. sucked!...man i need to invest in a gun! much quicker and easier

  • pop punk is the best :)

  • I like Alkaline Trio before they were depressed. : D

  • trio is midwest punk. please dont add pop to it... then you're talking blink 182. ak3, lawrence arms, hotwater music -- all midwest punk.

  • DONT FORGET TO LET YOUR LIFE ROT YOU INSIDE OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i have a request for you i remember one of your vids saying if we have a request to post it or soemthing well my request is Message From Kathlene by Alkaline Trio

  • not to set off angry kids, but is this what emo used to osund like? or do you guys consider alkaline trio more pop punk?

  • @owl316 I think you can make a case that Alk3 are emo, but I consider them pop-punk.

  • @punkCDsampler i dunno this is closer to punk than anything. songs like cringe and message from kathlene at least. they've definitely pop punked over the years tho.

  • @punkCDsampler yea, i never thought about classifying them as I started listening to them when they were more punk/ pop and have today someone heard they're music and said," wow that's so emo."

    meh, whatevs

  • @punkCDsampler i kinda consider them moody-punk. i know it's not a real genre but they're kinda like the nekromantix. dark always. not really emo. emo branches from post-hardcore like thursday.

  • @punkCDsampler They are Death Pop

  • @punkCDsampler i dont see how they can be considered emo. theyve got a very punkish bassist, the vocalist doesnt sound emo at all, and the drums do classic punk d-beats. its gotta be pop-punk. not as if it really matters though.

  • @punkCDsampler They're McHenry-Punk Rock/Alternative Rock.

Matt Skiba himself describes his music as similar to Social Distortion.

Wiki: "Alkaline Trio is part of a very large circle of Chicago punk/hardcore bands." McHenry, part of ChicagoLand Illinois, is his hometown, that's what people here sound like when they do hardcore punk, Matt was just Exceptional for not being Christian Rock.

  • @punkCDsampler alkaline trio.. i consider them pop punk / dark punk

  • @owl316 Yeah i have always considered them pop punk and they wud say there straight up punk

  • @owl316 i consider them punk rock here but either way its how you want to interpret it i guess. this album is great though

  • @owl316 you should check all albums to say something dude

  • @owl316 music is meant to spark off emotions. that being said. oasis is as emo as some blink 182 songs are.

Alk3 maintain dark lyrics with pop punk scales.

  • @owl316 fuck you

  • @owl316

Look up Sunny Day Real Estate (their early stuff)

I would say that they're pretty much the o.g.'s of emo music.

  • @owl316 i consider them fucking bad ass

  • @owl316 hell fucking no they are not emo they are into the real darkness not cry baby shit

  • @owl316 hell fucking no they are not emo they are into the real darkness not cry baby shit hawthorne hieghts is emo dumb ass

  • @owl316 Genres are stupid. But listen to Braid, Cap'n Jazz and for the first "emo" band ever listen to Rites Of Spring.

  • @owl316 You know, emo sounded similar to this but AT had been around for so long I really don't think that they count, they are more melodic punk than anything. Although yes, they do walk a very fine line. I hate that I like them, I really do. But at least I don't like Taking Back Sunday.

  • @owl316 defintly emo minus the fad of emo, if that makes senes

    e

  • I know the lyrics are morbid and kind of depressing but this song never fails to make me happy.

  • @Mahified - I know exactly what you mean.

  • Fucking timeless

  • this song is just the greatest

  • i love this song!

  • I think This Addiction is a great album and that they are edging closer to the earlier stuff. A&I WAS a good album and it WAS a different style (as was crimson) but I still liked them. But I do prefer this style which is why I like this addiction because it is much more "closer" to this style than crimson / A&I was. I said "Style" alot there... prob cuz I have so much xD

  • Listen to it once and I have to listen to it another 10 times, the intro is so good!!!!

  • I love this song so much.

    -drinks alcohol-

  • look at the sky, look at all those stars! look how goddamn ugly the stars are... don't want anybody to feel like i do. later

  • i don't think it really bothers me that they took on a new sound, but that they took on a radio friendly sound. like they just made bad music, and people like bad music... i bet like most the people who actually listened to alkaline trio before a&i played an instrument... i know that's why i love the trio so much.

  • Comment removed

  • Every time anyone mentions stars I feel the need to sing 'look at all those stars, look at how god damn ugly stars are' ... is that just me?!

  • @Jenni07944 nooooo! i do that too all the time. and nobody ever gets it! hahah

  • You people need to realize that this band has been around for 10+ years and they are going to change. Maybe Ill Catch Fire is my fav, but they cant stay that way forever. They have different lives now, and are still great musicians. They have never written a bad song, and if you dont like crimson or A&I then you dont appreciate them. Just shut the fuck up about it and listen to the music. lmao

  • Good Mourning was definitely when they started going downhill although it did have some great tracks like Continental & Blue In the Face. Their new album is definitely a step up from Crimson and A & I, although it sounds a little too "happy" and "commercial" for the trio. I still think Dead On the Floor is one of the best songs they have written though.

  • I don't know, I loved Good Mourning as much as their older albums... Goddammit is the only album I don't own, besides Crimson and A&I... This Addiction sounds okay, better than stuff on Crimson (Mercy Me rocks though...)

  • This song is brilliantly written. I think Skiba really captured the feeling of hopelessness that comes with severe depression and the contemplation of suicide.

  • look at all those stars...look at how goddamn ugly the stars are

  • ALK3 cant make a bad song.

  • @DIYLobotomy96 thats true

  • thats not true, agony and irony wasnt a great album. all of their asian man stuff was amazing. they never made a not incredible song while signed onto asian man. as they went on their songs started getting less realistic and relatable which was the main mistake, along with losing some creativity. Goddamnit is a completly unrecreatable albumcuz of 1 how well alk3 worked with mike park, the owner of asian man records, and 2 that matt skiba had just finished tourig and his voice was a little raspy.

  • I thought A&I was amazing. Just because the style was different doesnt make it any less awesome.

Saying Trio can make a bad song is like saying Iron Maiden can make a bad song. It is simply impossible.

  • @DIYLobotomy96 for the rhythm of the song while i listen to them for the lyrics mostly, and without saying the art of the lyrics got a lot worse. This Addiction i thought was a huge improvement to A&I. However i did think there was a few weak tracks on that album too, like eating me alive. idk if that album was better soley because they were trying to go back to their punk roots or simply because they went self labeled (kind of)

  • I've listened to the new album and all i've came up with is its just not as gritty anymore. You wouldn't find these lyrics on anthing new simply because as they changed so did they're music. I'm not fanboying it up but i love the new album in a different way. There will be moments in my life when im gonna want to listen to This Addiction but more othen that not im gonna be blasting Goddamnit out of my speakers. It's been 14 years, Trio try never to put out the same album twice. Don't bitch enjoy

  • so true

they should stay with the current members, the sound is very tight and clean. derek is a beast, and dan and matt have always summed up my feelings exactly

    haha 666 on the clocks

    i love alk3

  • Very well said, man. I too have had a long time love for the Trio. It's hard to get better than brilliance of Goddamnit and Good Mourning. This Addiction may be a little disappointing, but it's still awesome.

  • Thank god there going back to this style on their new album. Cause honestly, anything after their first 3 albums blows.

  • i loved these guys

  • This one was my favorite in high school. I listened to it EVERY morning on the way to school with my brother, we both smoked Camel Lights and sang this song at the top of our lungs!!! Good times:)

  • True Alk3 fans appreciate all their work and accept the differences.

  • Damn straight man. =)

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Everyone just needs to accept changes in their musical style and realize how talented they are.

  • @HypoderMiss

Theres a difference between being a fan, and being a fanboy (blindly supporting anything they throw at you), a fan will constructively criticize, yet try to understand why they are changing, and simply stop buying albums they dont like. An annoying fanboy will like whatever they release, making sure everyone next to them knows they like the shitty over rated music they only like cause their friends do.

  • i dunno. true alkaline trio fans would say fuck it and start drinking.

  • Well said, s3xyb3astsixty9.

  • Listen to their CD the Remains, that'll stop any arguing over which CD was the best.

  • I hate seeing people trash "New" alkaline trio. It's all fucking them. Just shut the fuck up and enjoy the music. Agony & Iroyn is great, amybe not as great as some earlier stuff, but still great. Good mourning is what REALLY got them popular in the mainstream punk scene.

  • dude agony and irony blows. love love kiss kiss is the gayest shit iv ever accidentally put on my ipod

  • Is there anyone who did'nt spend a summer listening to this album?

  • I know I spent many summers listening to it.

  • @Maulerskates i dont know about summer, but i think i have this winters music sorted

  • @Maulerskates Only bad people. Like pedophiles.

  • @Maulerskates Nope.

  • Alkaline Trio FTW

  • Look at all those stars, Look at how goddamn ugly the stars are>

  • alk3 till i die!!

  • They were the first band i saw live & I'm glad I did because they were amazing =]

It's been years since then, I wish I could see them play again.

    love this song so much!

  • I miss pre-Crimson ALK3..

  • ya gotta love it all man, old and new!

  • It's not that I dislike their new stuff, it's just a different sound completely now. I mean, I even loved Good Mourning, and that's nothing like the older ALK3. Crimson had some decent listens, Agony and Irony hardly has any.

  • well, I know what you mean. Agony & Irony is very different, I still say it's pretty decent though. But yeah I guess if I had choose I would take the older Alk3.

It's just that i've basically become a diehard fan so I celebrate their entire collection =)

  • Same here, really.

  • I think we all do :(

  • @xkevinc Their newest album kinda sounds like pre Crimson

  • @xkevinc awww don't you have a mp3 player??

  • @xkevinc YESS!!! Thank you....

  • I love goddamnit, i just got the goddamnit redux. Its awesome
