Unfortunately, the American right have misused words like "liberal" and "socialist" to such an extent, they've warped the meanings beyond recognition.
To be a social democrat means believing not only in the liberal concepts of freedom of the individual, but also in the notion of a common good, and that the state has a role to play in contributing to that common good.

A perfect republic is at best an inferior alternative to a true democracy, but we've never had a model republic anyway. Capitalism in modern global society is not something that represents democracy, egalitarianism. It's a system of ever-decreasing choice and fairness. It's better in certain sectors, such as food. Telecommunications is a nightmare filled with very few, powerful dictators.

If governments give in, your internet will highly resemble TV. Pay a lot extra to view some websites (but many services will cease to exist because the ISPs do not like them or feel threatened). The internet itself is corporately owned and operated, look how Google bought YouTube, the internet is already set up to give the illusion of certain freedoms. The reason we have "socialist" programs that assist those who can't help themselves is because we practice a "capitalism" way of economics. Really what we have is a socialist/worker/capitalist economy. A capitalist is someone who has done well enough to loan money to an entrepreneur. This all represents probably less than 25% of the population. The rest of us work or receive assistance.

Not true, many communists in Germany joined the Nazi party, viewing it as a stepping stone on the path to communism.
In volume 2, chapter IV of Mein Kampf, Hitler cites opposing views on race and personal worth as the fundamental differences between National Socialism & Marxism. Not much of a difference.
Hitler's philosophy in Mein Kampf, from politics to trade unions, more closely resembles the left in the US.

With Socialism you cannot have the government provide everything because eventually we'll run out of money and that means no more economic prosperity. And so yes its a great IDEA for government to provide but it can only be an idea because after a while the government will lose all the money.

The reason we have the media monopolies that we have now is the result of corporate interests--in the 1990s--using government to DEREGULATE ownership of media markets. The result has been an exponential DECREASE in the number of media owners nationwide. Deregulation has virtually ELIMINATED competition.

I live in Finland and the system here works. People are happy, healthy (because of good, affordable health care), smart (because of quality, affordable - often free - education) and the division between the poor and the affluent is nearly invisible. Good and bad come with the system here, but every American could learn from it. It is nearly sacriligious to throw BIOwaste (food scraps) into a regular trach here. All biowaste is recycled. People don't waste here, and they aren't insincere.

To be a social democrat means believing not only in the liberal concepts of freedom of the individual, but also in the notion of a common good, and that the state has a role to play in contributing to that common good.

The government, Large corporations, the media and rich individuals are really the only ones with much of a say in how the country operates. Corporations exist as these separate pseudo-nations. A perfect republic is at best an inferior alternative to a true democracy, but we've never had a model republic anyway. Capitalism in modern global society is not something that represents democracy, egalitarianism. It's a system of ever-decreasing choice and fairness. It's better in certain sectors, such as food. Telecommunications is a nightmare filled with very few, powerful dictators.

If governments give in, your internet will highly resemble TV. Pay a lot extra to view some websites (but many services will cease to exist because the ISPs do not like them or feel threatened). Play a lot of video games? Your ISP might block your access to all protocols that allow you to connect to game servers if they choose

The internet itself is corporately owned and operated, look how Google bought YouTube, the internet is already set up to give the illusion of certain freedoms. Really what we have is a socialist/worker/capitalist economy. A capitalist is someone who has done well enough to loan money to an entrepreneur. Anyone who uses the words "fascism" and "socialism" interchangeably is so incomprehensibly stupid as to not even warrant debate. If those people understood how ignorant they were being, they would probably kill themselves immediately out of shame.
As for the rest of what you said, open your fucking eyes - all of (socialist) Western Europe and Canada have higher social mobility than the United States. That's a fact. Socialism does not trap people in their class, it liberates them from class.

@Moroccoarmyboy Socialism means you can't go any further in your economic position basically. If you start out at one place you have very little chance of gaining more economic prosperity. With Socialism you cannot have the government provide everything because eventually we'll run out of money and that means no more economic prosperity. And so yes its a great IDEA for government to provide but it can only be an idea because after a while the government will lose all the money.

A more limited form of "European style Socialism" that the Republicans are complaining about is what we're moving toward--one where the government acts as a huge bank to shore up potentially failing industries, and then uses the interest to provide services for its citizens. That's good, but it needs more planning, history, and volume before it becomes self-sustaining.

I know all about Morgan, and Rockefeller, The Federal Reserve Act, Jeckell Island, The CFR, The Bilderberg, and the takover of The American Economy by the very people The Laws are suppose to protect us from. And it certainly wasn't by accident. The problem is the vast majority demand more when it comes to government control over other aspects of society as well, all in the guise of helping the public.

Truth is those Evil Capitalists are in fact, the very Socialists we want to ask us. Once a person begins to use government powers to regulate business to drive out competitors, they can in no way be called Capitalist. Capitalism favors no government regulations and a laissez-faire environment. The Rockefellers, Morgans, Rothchilds, or any of some 35 ultra rich families are in no way capitalists, but in fact, Socialists taking over world governments. A Big Central Bank is only one way it's done.

The reason we have the media monopolies that we have now is the result of corporate interests--in the 1990s--using government to DEREGULATE ownership of media markets. The result has been an exponential DECREASE in the number of media owners nationwide. Deregulation has virtually ELIMINATED competition.
You statement does not square with history.

I don't want a system that allows this stuff to continue. It won't be socialism, marxism, communism or democracy. It will be something new and different, something we have yet to imagine, perhaps - certainly something that we have yet to realize. You say "European style of governement" like it's a bad thing.

I live in Finland and the system here works. People are happy, healthy (because of good, affordable health care), smart (because of quality, affordable - often free - education) and the division between the poor and the affluent is nearly invisible. Good and bad come with the system here, but every American could learn from it. It is nearly sacriligious to throw BIOwaste (food scraps) into a regular trach here. All biowaste is recycled. People don't waste here, and they aren't insincere.
