Sounds from my childhood. Falling asleep in the back of my parent's 1959 Thunderbird as we drove home at dusk to Rivera Street, fog coming in and this playing on the car radio.
The destruction of KGO-AM last week reminds of me of the demise of the old KSFO, with great DJs like Jazzbeau Collins. Unlike KGO, KSFO had the courtesy to notify its listeners of the format change in advance. On the final day of the old format, about a minute before midnight, they played "the sound of the city" for the last time -- a bittersweet moment after which the station abruptly changed to a jarring new format.
I also want to thank whoever posted "The Sound of the City" jingle. I used to listen to vinatge radio programming on KSFO when I was a kid in the late 70s and this was often played and it had a soothing, maybe a bit eerie, but still reassuring sound. It was and still is a really unique bit, however brief it may have been. I don't think anything exists like it in the dreck of AM radio today. A true classic.
i listened to(and taped) the last time this was played before the format change. lost the tape, but this brings it all back. love this and the old station, thanks for posting this!
I want to thank the person who placed this on youtube! How did you get this song??? I remember this growing up in the 60's and listening to this on KSFO with the days of Jim Lange and so many other DJ's that became like part of our family. I was just a tyke! Thanks for bringing back so many childhood memories of my days on the ranch here in San Jose. Please tell me where I might be able to purchase this. I want this played at my memorial!

I love Paris, I love London, but there is no place like The City, and I'm from Oakland (which I also love)
.

@TDTom77 If you are from Oakland (like me) The City is also "home". And will always be.
