Hey thanks for the video – one of my tables has an irregular pitch wobble around the -8 position. Will this be fixed by calibration? It's a newly installed pitch shifter, the four test points are all pretty much bang on (-3.3,0,3.3,6) however there does appear to be two 0 points (or at least the exit from the 0 point is not as smooth as the repaired deck in your video).
Wanted to check what you thought before buying a multimeter. Thanks!
Hi, I have a used Technics 1200 and I can't find a position where the large dots will remain still-- at zero the dots appear to drift and wobble, and when I pull away from zero the dots move in a jerky way. Does this mean the pitch fader needs to be replaced, or just calibrated?
@aliariap Thank you, I'm glad you liked the video.
Yeah I did measure form a different point, but the it connects to the same point.
The only reason I did that was because the probes on that meter are pants and they are not very sharp, so I could cut though the slightly oxidised solder and get a good connection, so I probed else ware.
One of my my 1210m5g's has the double zero pitch at +2. Haven't dared opening it yet as i don't have a multimetre. Does anyone know if this method would fix the problem?
I am in the process of doing a complete mod on my decks. Powder coating, LED's, the whole nine yards. I will video tape and post the whole process. Thanks for the inspiration.
I'm an old school DJ that really appreciates these videos. They allow me to keep my Technics running at their best. Thanks for the great work. I know these are time consuming videos, but please keep them coming.
Very helpful video! Thank you very much, but could you tell what for yellow and orange wires ? And does it possible and not meaningless to replace in Technics 1200MK2 pitch control with SL-1200MK5 pitch control ?
I just replaced the pitch control slider to my Technics and everything went really smooth as far as the installation. Now i am having a problem, when the pitch stays at 0 it is fine the pitch is where it should be as far as BPM and when i move the pitch to the negative it goes positive instead of negative and will not change the pitch no more then +2 and when i move to positive it only goes up +2 and stays too. Help!
@Tezzarito1 hi there, on some older decks the pot that your talking about is on the reverse side - this means you have to unscrew the 2 gold looking screws from the fader board, pay close attention to the ground lead which is attached to the top screw. when you have unscrewed the board turn it over and you should see the pot ... remember that you will need to turn the pot the opposite way so turn it clockwise as you are facing it from a differnet side then that of the video :) - hope this helps
@Tezzarito1 im not 100% sure but i have also heard that th factory setting for the pitch adjustment pod is 2.7 [using multimeter] this is meant to be the 0 point, however ive tried this myself but didnt find it correct for my 3 decks lol - mine where more around 3.0 but im sure it would depend on how much use the pitch fader has had and how old the decks are, so mine might need replacing soon.
@EzRecordings Yer im sure once the faders have been used for awhile the levels will have changed , ive got the multi meter thing just need to get arse in gear and do it again , proper slack with it lol
I was wondering with a ratherly strange problem. Not long time ago i've just bought my first pair of technics second hand off ebay and i've had some pitch problems and yeah i know thats a common problem and you can adjust it via under the platter, wich i did, the problem is, the pitch is ok at +3.3 and +6 but at -3.3 its off to -4 on both turntables. So what do you think?
@ElectricalConnection hi m8 - mine are the same i dont think its a problem as long as the zero postion is in the middle and +3.33 and +6 are all bang on i wouldnt mess with it as you might throw the whole pitch out :)
@ElectricalConnection ive had a bit of free time to look into this on my decks today, i found it better to do the pitch range adj first then the pitch fade after. I tried the pitch adj method 1st to set 0 position but when altering the pitch range it throws the 0 position out so i adjusted my pitch fader to +6 and then adjusted the pitch range adj pot to ensure lights hovered at +6 this automatically fixed the -3.33 your 0 will be out so adj via fader pot untill zero is center this worked 4 me
viperfrank I have not just still had it clear, I will try it again, but I did it and the point 0 does not remain completely an unemployed person as to you
Alright Frank I'm a big fan of your vids man. I got technics mkll's last wk I had a go at calibrating them I did pt 2 before 1. I can't get the top dots still at +6. Is this a sign that I should just get new pitches. I turned the little blue pitch adjuster all the way it made not much difference. If anything I have made it have two zero points. If I put new pitches in should I turn the little blue adjuster all the way anti clockwise first?
Hi mate, the multimeter I am using has one setting for measuring Ohms and when I touch the prods together it beeps to tell me i have 0. However when I put them on the brown and red nothing happens. Do you think this is the meter or maybe something different on the deck? thanks
@jayb18cee Mine doesn't either, you have to fully unscrew it to get at it the other way round. Instead of turning anti-clockwise at first, turn it full clockwise. The just basically follow his instructions, mine are perfect now :-D
Great guide! I used the servicemanual for the technics sl-1210 mk2 as a supplement,
The pitch on my turntables didnt match up and the calibrationpoints were completly off. The manual says that the pitch should be 2.7 ohm in the senter, i adjusted so both my players were 2.7 and set the pitch to +6 and started calibrating under the platter.
The platter dots now work for center position and +6 but with +3.3 and -3.3 both players show more like +2.2 and -2.2, why is that?
@mrdrgonzo my tables are quite old so i bought two new pitch with pcb incuded.. just disconnect the old one and install the new, with no solder :).. works like a charm now.
I followed part 1 and 2 of your calibration tutorials, but during the process I found out that I should have switched these around.
This is probably because the previous owner of my 1200 Mk2 adjusted the pitch range way beyond 8%. Because of this I wasn't able to center the zero point in part 1, the pot just wouldn't allow it. I thought it was broken. Fortunately it wasn't: I just had to follow part 2 and part 1 a second time.
Should the mulitmeter reading allways be 2k75 like yours ?? or are we gonna get a different reading acording to our individual decks bcus mine was reading 2k53 is this right? thanks mate
@michaelNtha Yes, I just recalibrated one of mine - it's an old used mk2, and I had to unscrew the pitch control, flip it over, and then turn the pot all the way clockwise to get two zero points. Turning it all the way counterclockwise did NOT give me two zeros. About to do the second portion of the video and then test with Serato, so hopefully all goes well from here out.
@dankjeweler1 Hi, I just calibrated my pitch yesterday using this video and then part 2. I have technics 1200 mk2, the pitch hasnt the hole to adjust as you said but you can simply remove it and do exactly same thing using the blue-small-knob-controller on it (you need to remove it cause its on the backside-under). Thank you so much Viperfrank :) big up
@dubspencersound Mine too. I guess you have to turn the screw completely the other way yes? If you have a hole, anti-clockwise, If you don't and have to remove the fader to access then its clockwise???
@michaelNtha Well pointed out not all have the hole in the pcb board my has'nt either i supose depends on how old thay are,,great vid viperfrank too cheers.!
i tried doing that but i dont have the place to fit the screw on the back of the pitch board it seems that its a diffrent model although its an original tehnics 1210 mk2
Great Tuts! have a question. I dont have 2 seperate "0" points on the slider. What i have is if i go to +1 on the slider the dots dont move until im at the +2 on the fader, so the platter stays the same speed until i reach +2. Would i use the same method as to what you mentioned?
@frankieglasses Hi there, yeah that could be a couple of things, is it a MK2 or a M3D, if its a MK3 the calibration is different. try the calibration first.
if not check to see if all the wires in the pitch fader connector are still connected, mainly the brown wire.
if that's all good, than the pitch fader might be damaged and you may need to change to pitch fader.
I hope this helped and thank you for your comment and your feed back.
@viperfrank I have a similar issue as frankieglasses the dots move only a little but my pitch fader is brand new. I had calibrated it (MK2) hooked it up to Serato and found that what Serato read was a wee bit off to what the legend of the pitch fader read so I did it a couple of more times to make it perfect and now when I hook it up to serato the zero on Serato reads -10.0!! I'm afraid I reeeeeally screwed up!! any suggestions?? The dots say I'm ok but Serato says otherwise. thnx!!
Bro, these tuts are awesome, been spending most the morning watching them and have learnt a lot. Don't own Technics yet, but in the process of buying second hand. Pretty confident I can do most things you've shown, and have the tools for it. Keep it up!
I would just like to point out that he did not contact the Multi-meter to the same points as he did the first time he used it. He uses the multi-meter twice in this video. The second time he uses it, he put the points on different contacts than the first time. For some reason, this did not prevent the adjustment from working as intended.
This was so helpful, about 6 years ago I was quoted 60quid a deck to recalibrate pitch as I had speed mine up or increased the pitch range, which someone recommended but I wanted to put back. This was a technics official dealer and he said that you can never put the back to factory settings. Well that seems like bullshit now!
hello....nice job!i have the same problem in both technics...the one is fast two times from the other and the other when i move the pitch slow goes fast for a little and then slow...if i do the same like your video i ll fix or i need to do something else for my problem! thnx george from greece
@withaspoon94 you mean the strobe light? well its just for calibration really and for checking the pitch to see if the zero position is correct, that about it really. some people like to put different colour LED's in there just to make it look good.
hope this answers your question and thank you for your comment.
loving these vids, nice to see people with passion for turntables, still keeping Techs alive. I'm gonna give my beloved Techs a tune-up with these vids once I sort out a couple of stripped screws that are getting in my way!
my friend i have a big problem i got a technics Sl 1200mk2, when the pitch its in 0 ok perfecct por while im using traktor scratch im beatmatching but the problem is that when i move the pitch a bit, it make like animal changes from 125 to 122 i dont have Vinyls with dance music just a big collection of rachmaninov, beethoven, bach etc... and alse when i move te pitch to + it slow a little bit weir let me know what do you think could be the prob thanks a lot great vids
Just to clarify, the second time you put the multi meter on the pitch fader you say you return the pitch to the zero point and measure across the same points you did to get the first reading from the brown/red wires to the pitch control (6.55 in the video), but in the video you appear to be measuring the second reading from a different point further up the pitch fader board (7.32 in the video) which is correct?
@Bobthesub yeah the second time i did connected the multi-meter further up, but they still connect to the same red and brown wires it was just easier to hold the test probes on with one hand. but regardless the second connection are the same red and brown wire connections.
thanks for your comment i hope the video was a help.
@viperfrank Cheers for that, might go the whole hog and sort the pitch and stiff height adjustment out in one go thanks to your videos. Thanks for sharing your knowlege, much appreciated
@liaschinko well when the pitch fader starts to ware out you have to calibrate it to compensate for that ware, mainly though its for when you change the fader you have to recalibrate the pitch.
@1GNAX i don't actually know, the model number has been scratched so i don't know but its quite old now i need a new one but a cant really afford it at the moment.
im just hoping this one don't pack up!
at the end of the other video i did use a crappy old 90's JVC camcorder and you can tell, it looks and sounds crap!

loving these vids, nice to see people with passion for turntables, still keeping Techs alive. I'm gonna give my beloved Techs a tune-up with these vids once I sort out a couple of stripped screws that are getting in my way!
Cheers

Just to clarify, the second time you put the multi meter on the pitch fader you say you return the pitch to the zero point and measure across the same points you did to get the first reading from the brown/red wires to the pitch control (6.55 in the video), but in the video you appear to be measuring the second reading from a different point further up the pitch fader board (7.32 in the video) which is correct?
Bobthesub 1 year ago
@Bobthesub yeah the second time i did connected the multi-meter further up, but they still connect to the same red and brown wires it was just easier to hold the test probes on with one hand. but regardless the second connection are the same red and brown wire connections.
thanks for your comment i hope the video was a help.

why a pitch range is bad ? in old turtable .
liaschinko 1 year ago
@liaschinko well when the pitch fader starts to ware out you have to calibrate it to compensate for that ware, mainly though its for when you change the fader you have to recalibrate the pitch.
hope this helped and thank you for your comment.
