It is both. It is covered in sand, with 3 drybrushed colors, and then is flocked with two different flocks. The flocks are custom blends that include some static grass. In doing it this way, in ensures that any soil showing through has a consistent and detailed appearance. If any flock does rub off, (though each layer is sealed thouroughly) then the detailed soil will be revealed.
The models are from the AT-43 starter set produced by Rackham. Haven't played yet but the system looks sound and the quality of the miniatures is quite good. Hope that helps.
if u want to know about at-43 minimaster934 check out some of my early vids i do a few on the game and even a battle report of two so u can get a feel for it and see if u'd like to go get it. i recommend it highly, its fast easy and lots of fun. not that warhammer isnt but this has less rules to remember and goes a lil quicker i think but check out my vids and decide 4 urself
one of the other guys that freelances uses cheap picture frames to dress them up. he finds them on sale and then makes the display board to fit the frame. its a cheap easy way to make them look really nice especially if u find a sweet frame as some are really out there. but i like ur idea as well as always i'm very impressed
I have heard of using frames before and its a great way to get a high quality wood edge for cheap money. Of course I would need a bunch of 10" x 20" frames to fit my game boards. :)
Looking cool! Check out some of my stuff!

Oh, and I again misspoke about the Therian Walker. I shot this a bit earlier and before I checked on its name.
