Ya wanna know the sad thing is... that hit probably would have been flagged today. I mean, it LOOKS legal, but in game time I'm sure some official in today's soft-serve society would have thrown a flag just because it's a hard hit from the blind side. Then the fines would be coming later in the week.
@MattOuellette88 that hit would be illegal actually. it falls under the category now of hitting a defenseless player. (his back was turned, thus not seeing the big hit coming) this counts for defensive players too, not just offense.
@Magicrazy1 Rules were the same. He probably would've been ruled down. It was all mute because of the penalty. This was Steve Largent's second to last year in the NFL. I remember there were questions whether he would return for one more year. I remember a newscast of this game where the reporter said after that hit the Steve Largent would be returning the next year as a linebacker.
@Magicrazy1 You are right in some ways. But since there was a defensive holding on the play before the fumble is technically negated. But the hit...STILL AWESOME! :)
oh yeah.. largent givin him da bidness.

was payback from either earlier that year or a year before when he knocked out largent

Gordon McCarter was the referee in that game.

This was the game in 1988? The one that took the Broncos out of the playoffs.

@ukwarrior25 I think so because the same guy knocked out largent earlier that year he got payback

If you gain enough speed do you think you could fly with those shoulder pads on?

@1:13. There are decleaters and then there are the bowling pins -type of hits. Look how many players fall as a result of Harden sent flying.

I wish he had hit him even harder, Harden was a cheap shot artist and had knocked out Largent with a cheap shot. Karma is a bitch Harden

I think Mike Harden was lucky Largent nailed him. Curt Warner was bearing down on him. that would have separated Mike Harden's head from his body.

I wish they would've shown the viscious illegal late cheap shot that Harden laid on Largent 2 plays earlier...that's what made this so sweet!

This would have been a penalty - with today's NFL rules
torpeyn 5 months ago
Great play but that wasn't even a fumble... unless the rules were different back then.

In todays gay ass football this would have been a 15 yard penalty and a 10,000 dollar fine. I miss how football use to be played.

@jackhandy00 It wasn't a helmet to helmet collision or a defenseless player...
Hellisan12 3 months ago
@Hellisan12 since when has that stop the refs from throwing a flag and the league dropping a fine in the past 5 or 6 years.
