DEAR SIR OR MADAM: I don't mean to sound thick or ignorant - I promise - but why do Americans, even educated ones, pronounce Interview as Inner-view? Or even Atlantic as Allannick? Some of the less educated ones pronounce New Orleans as Nawlins. And so on.
We, at this side of the pond, have peculiar ways, too, of expressing ourselves verbally. It is such a pity - is it not? - that we allow the language of Shelley, Shakespeare etc. disappear down the pan. Hope I wasn't being too rude. THANKS.
