  • Thank you for preserving this video. My father, Horace Heidt, use to work with Bob in Vaudeville. I also worked with him at the Starlight Bowl in Burbank.

    Best,

    Horace Heidt, Jr.

  • This is lovely...

  • A wonderful tribute. There is a touching piano piece at 7:20 while BH talks about his show before the 1st Marine Division. Does anyone recognize the name of the music?

  • Thank you for sharing a wonderful video of a man I grew up watching.

  • This man is timeless and had the spirit our nation needs to regain. Don't fuss among ourselver, just kick butt and reclaim America while we still can. I'm from this era and will always love Bob for giving of his time and self to bring sunshine to my heroes! I would love to follow in his steps! God bless our troops and vets AND their families! Blessings, Joyce Shaffer

  • There's always a "Whoopie" looking for the negative whether it's there or not. BH was a great man who provided a tremendous service to our country and service men and women. Thank God for Bob Hope! Signed, a minority

  • I think I saw my dad. wow.

  • <3 Bob Hope!

  • 51 dislikes....What a Shame!!!

  • Yep, Saint Bob, no bleeping doubt about it! I was fortunate enough to see him and his troupe in Da Nang, VN, 1968. He was the ultimate American hero!!

  • 7:09 let's put a good old racist joke in this piece.

  • @vvhoopie where?

  • @vvhoopie - check your hearing - he says "even some of the FELLERS are wearing them." As in men. He's making a joke about men wearing skirts.

  • The older we get, I find, the more we appreciate things like this. I believe Bob Hope had to have had Jesus in his heart to have done these things. I admire him more now at my age than as a child knowing he did them.

  • A great American hero. RIP, Sir.

  • Hope, gave us hope during some dark days.

  • What a guy.

  • Isn't it amazing how this beloved legend kept us all in stitches from the moment he first stepped out on stage until the day he died. Yet, he NEVER used a vulgar 4 -letter word and never had to keep apologizing for offending someone or stepping over the line. Today's comedians can't keep an audience entertained for 5 minutes without dropping an F-bomb every other second. What havehave we become as a society? What happened to our moral compass?

  • ATL - do you know if Maj. Wise finished singing "White Christmas"? Is it on tape? I'd love to see it. Thanks.

  • A great TOP NOTCH man for sure!!!!

  • Every time I see this clipping it never fails to cos something to go into my eye, pardon me as I try to get it out, and yes thanks for the memories!!!!!

  • Bob Hope was a great American hero. Thank you to all the troops!

  • how can 43 people dislike this what r they looking at whoever disliked this can pack your bag and get the hell out!!! as they say love it or leave it!!!!!!

  • Bob will always be remembered for his love of our service men and his devotion to them that carried him around the world time after time. I somehow feel that if Bob had met his Maker on one of those trips, it would have been a proud sacrifice to him. May he rest in peace.

  • I saw Bob Hope's last Christmas Tour to Vietnam, as it practiced just prior to leaving, at Fort Shafter, Hawaii, in 1971. There were thousands of soldiers, sailors and airmen there, who felt so lucky to be stationed in Hawaii, a few were still being staged to Vietnam, but most of us just went to see a "legend" perform. He didn't disappoint and stayed after the show to talk to us. Like every military person who saw him, we will never forget him going into harm's way, for us.

  • I had the honor and privilege of assisting (in a small way) when Bob Hope did his final Christmas special at Kelly AFB, Texas in 1992. Hope was then 89 years old and had become frail, but you could sense the love he felt for “the troops” and the love they returned. Dick Cheney, then Secretary of Defense, was there, and Hope was given honorary four-star rank by representatives from each of the services. It was an event I will always remember and a moment in history I was proud to share it.

  • God Bless them all and God Bless America.

  • Bob was doing this long before it was cool!.

    39 viewers have no soul.

  • I saw his show at Cu Chi near the Cambodian border in 1966. A year later, I was so lucky to have made it home and I was camped out in Pasadena for the Rose Bowl Parade. Bob drove by just a few feet away and I yelled out, "Remember Cu Chi." He answered back .... something personal and genuine. What a guy!

  • You guys that do the "rap" entertainment thing---sorry you don't even come close. Bob Hope One in a Zillion!!!

  • This Video brought tears to my eyes, I remember watching some of his shows when I was younger with my grandmother and mother. We were truly blessed to have had him in our lives and the lives all those soldiers that he brought a little bit of cheer during a horrible time in their lives.

  • A true American hero and a wonderful human being.

  • thank you

  • IT BROUGHT A TEAR..GOD BLESS BOB

  • J-E-T-S Jets!Jets!Jets!

  • Bob Hope's wife just passed away this year. She was 102. I like to think they are once again together.

  • All I can say is WOW!

  • AN AMERICAN INSTITUTION!!!!

  • A really truly compassionate person. Wow. There isn't another one like him. Made me cry. How selfless. Really one of a kind.

  • @BOMOON Some people just need a place to vent their programmed hate. Lucky you. YOu got this ignorant guy to rage about liberals with his misinformation that was programmed into him by the right wing propagandists like Roger Ailes and Karl Rove, et al.

  • @BOMOON Waa ha ha ha ha....No they (Democrats) just destroy the money by way of the federal reserve and Goldman Sacs gang.

  • @BOMOON Sorry Boom, Liberals are the 35...with maybe a camel fornicating Islamic thrown in....but you need to stop by a Kokomo Vietnam Reunion, and see what the vast majority think...only a few John Kerry liars out there, the rest know who supported the failed liberal agenda of LBJ and company...but then again quit trying to make yourself feel better....I have no hate for the likes of you, and the draft dodgers of the late 60s...only pity.

  • @BOMOON No, it's because I lived it and you didn't....you can talk all you want 40+ years later, but I know who supported us{not the war} and who trashed us....it was you, obammy, Bill Ayres, and the media....the truth is out there, search for it.

  • @BOMOON No Vietnam Veteran I know called US Viet Nam vets....we served in Vietnam, and Liberals hated our guts and for the most part rooted for us to die....so spare me the BS....you hated us, and Vietnam Vets know it....but Merry Christmas....I am willing to let bygones be bygones....we all move on.

  • @BOMOON Are you one of the 35? If not, shut the fuck up, piss ant....

  • @BOMOON You didn't like me and the guys that served in Vietnam though, did you asswipe...you are a lib and therefore a useless POS.....

  • He had no equal then or now....

  • A heartfelt thank you to all veterans, current service members and families of those who have paid the ultimate price for this country's freedom! Merry Christmas to you and yours and thank you for your service in defending this great country of ours!

  • Great man... ... but, so sad that the name of the Bob Hope Classic in Palm Desert is being changed this year ... in the name of progress.

  • I remember growing up and watching his show all the time. Never missed any of his Christmas shows with the troops. I wish we had more comedians like him now days. So much swearing and rude remarks. There will never be another Bob Hope. Thank you for so many memories Bob.

  • i got chills about silent night

  • Got to see him on Okinawa..Packed house..There will never be anothe like him and all the troupe that went with him..Many thanks Bob, and to all that served..

  • love this...he was such a hero to all! to give the troups some good

cheer and joy during our toughest time. A real trouper with a big heart.

  • We never missed a Bob Hope Christmas special on TV when I was a kid. And then, he came over when I was in the Gulf during Desert Shield/ Desert Storm. He did more to help our troops than any ten politicians did. Thanks for the memories, Bob.

  • There should be a memorial to Bob Hope in Hollywood. He helped as much as anyone to win WW2.

  • Who are the 35 morons{liberals or Islamics} that voted "dislike"?

  • Whoa, I love it...

  • wonder if you can say Merry Christmas to the troops now.....we have lost something and may never get it back.

  • Bob and his troupe entertained me and the whole crew of the USS Hancock during Christmas 1968. I've forgotten a lot of details of my Vietnam experience, but will never forget that night.

  • God Bless Bob Hope...RIP....

  • 35 people are actually minions of Satan. How else could you thumbs down this video?

  • I got to see him during his first trip to Vietnam. He was in Ahn Ke and they trucked us over there from Pleiku. Quite a morale booster.

Another performer as good as he was to the troops was Martha Rae. She did a show in Pleiku with amlost no voice, a real trooper. She was a big boost to morale also, especially to one "sneaky pete" who she spent the night with.

Last but not least James Drury (The Virginian TV show) performed too.

All in 66, the last two were at Camp Holloway.

  • This brought tears to my eyes. What a man. What a purpose.

  • We need many more poeple like Bob Hope (an inspiring man!)

  • We need another Bob Hope is he out there?

  • @CORTESEUS

You're not likely to find anyone to replace him. Hollywood is 99% full of liberal narcissists.

The only one that even comes close at this point is Gary Sinise.

  • Amen. Also remember those others, Crosby, Jerry Colonna, Phyllis Diller, Jack Jones, my God, the list goes on.

  • What a truly great man and a great patriot! They don't make them like this anymore.

  • Bob Hope was (and still is) the measure of a man. A product of a generation which my generation will never truly understand. They are seldom hailed for their greatness, but damn well should be.

  • Saw him in Danang in '67. God blessed us sits with him now all, every one, with Bob Hope. There are not enough words to express all that he gave this great country. God surely

  • Now it's the Christmas season for me.

  • @unsexynstupid Thank you kindly...;)

  • I saw Bob Hope at CCK Airbase, Taiwan in 1969 knowing my next TDY was Pleiku, RVN. For a couple of hours my buddies and I got a taste of the World courtesy of Bob. Two months later stuck on a god forsaken hilltop in Laos we would repeat the jokes hoping to return to the world. Not all of us made it but all of us worshiped Bob for what he brought to us. He was truly and American Saint. Thanks for the memories Bob!

  • How our nation misses men like Hope!

  • What strikes me most is how funny the jokes are, even today, and how impeccable his timing was.

  • just stumbled on this clip ... hard to believe this was our past 70 years ... at war ... no one like these guys around today ...

  • God bless you Bob. Many will try but no one will replace you. I remember seeing you on Guam in 1969. THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES

  • An incredible man, who can still make the men cry.

  • Bob Hope was and always will be an amazing American, Thank God people like Toby Keith are picking up his torch and carrying on with this amazing gift for our troops.

  • We are fortunate to have lived the same time as these great Americans. The country is on the downhill slide now that all the great Americans are leaving and nothing is being left but braindead loons seeking a government controlled communistic society. God have mercy on their souls...

  • I loved him, he had so much compassion for people.A great comedian that NEVER had to use 4 letter words in his jokes.God bless you Bob, there will never be another you.

  • God Bless you Bob Hope for all of the love you shared while you were here. We have alot to learn from you.

  • Wow!

Thank you for putting this together for all to enjoy and refect.

  • Bob was the great man who found a young singer named JOE BARI and introduced him to the world in 1949 as TONY BENNETT.

  • @KentuckyJet Sorry, Kentucky Jet, but Anthony DeBenedetto is Tony Bennett's real name.

  • I first met Bob at Clark Air Base in the Phillipines, Later, Da Nang Air Base in Nam, again at

Utapao air base in Thailand, and finally at the Los Angeles International air port. The man is amazing !

  • I met him as he came off a plane at the Northern Kentucky Airport with a golfclub in his hand getting ready to get his next flight and allI could say was "Oh my God", his reply was" not quite"! He looked bigger than life to me because of his reputation and I respect all the work he did for our country and our soldiers. He was more than a comedian he was a real person! I wish more people had the love of our country like he and so many of his kind did in his day!

  • God Bless Bob Hope. Nothing else to say.

  • No better American ever lived. Bob Hope is the embodiment of patriotism.

  • This is BEAUTIFUL, TOUCHING, SAD & FUNNY ALL IN ONE. I REMEMBER WATCHING THESE SHOWS EVERY YEAR ON TV. TOO BAD NO ONE EVER HAD THESE AGAIN FOR THE SERVICE MEN & WOMEN SERVING THE LAST 9 YEARS. LAUGHTER ALWAYS HELPS.

    Karen

  • Thanks for the memories.

  • My eyes were teared from 8:00 til the end!

  • Thanks for putting this together and uploading it.

It brought back the memory of bitter sweet times.

I missed all but one of his shows over a four year period; which was one more than most of us got to see and share in.

  • Bob Hope, Stan Laurel and Charlie Chaplin all Englishmen.

  • some people live forever

  • Thanks for the memories Mr. Hope, from a grateful sailor.

  • That Bob Hope was a great comedian and even greater American (British born I believe), nobody can doubt.

He was more of an officer's comedian than he was enlisted. When he came on my ship he spent all of his time with the officers.

When Martha Ray came to the ship she tried to visit every enlisted working space and got to most of them.

Bob came to us to entertain us and for that I'll always be greatful. His jokes were sometimes so set up as to be pathetic, and were still funny.

  • @Thomrigg Yes Bob was born in London and gained his American citizenship in his late teens. I only found out a few months ago that he was born a few miles away from where I live, after all these years of watching his films! It's a shame we didn't keep him here :-) But I suppose going to America let him reach his full potential, it was a fortunate event in his life. I think America was a good fit for Bob, and he became a very proud American.

  • US Coast Guard Cutter CHASE, We did not get to see the Great Bob Hope Show while on tour in Vietnam ..... but Bob Hope and the Gold Diggers sang us Christmas Carols November of 1970 while on Ocean Station duty in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. They were flying high above us on their way to entertain the troops in Europe. It was so Great. God Bless Bob and all of those people who gave so much. Thank You.

  • Yet every single one of us is extraordinary in their own way.

    Ron Gager

  • Bob Hope didn't get up to the northern I-Corps area where most Marines operated in Vietnam. I wish I could have seen his show and those that did, loved him and respected him for his duty to support us,think how things in Hollywood have regressed with idiots like Sean Penn .

  • @marine919 Bob Hope came to DaNang, VN in 1970 and performed at Freedom Hill (Marines compound). I handled his bags at the DaNang (AF) Air Terminal but did not get a ticket to watch the show.

  • @teamerica --he was there in 1966--no tickets needed--I walked about 3 miles in the mud, to see the show, and then got home in time to watch it with my wife--in the process, I met Miss World (who was from India), and Vic Damone.

  • My father was one of the Marines in the 1st Division waiting to invade Pelilu. By the grace of God, he returned home to me and my mother.

    Thank you Bob Hope.....

  • Compare the entertainers of his time to what we have today... no contest.

Thank you Mr. Hope from a grateful Air Force Veteran.....

  • THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES, Sir!

  • I remember the shows in Vietnam where they would always sing a patriotic song. EVERYONE came to their feet and either sang along with or remained silent and most of us had tears in our eyes. Just once, in Ban Me Thout, about 5 or 6 guys were laughing and making fun of us. When the song finished everyone of us turned towards these idiots and went for them. Luckily there were MP's outside. I have no doubt they would have been killed or badly hurt. You don't mess with patroitism.

  • Served in the AF in Japan 67-70. Bob and Ann Margaret came to our hospital base (Camp Drake). Sure beat the hell out of anything Jane Fonda ever did for this country. What an awesome guy.

  • I watched his next to last Vietnam 1973 show in Subic Bay P.I. and than his last stop was in Guam on his way home. I shot two super 8mm movies reels of his show and one of them disappeared in the mail when I sent them by mail to be developed. I have one reel on DVD now along with my other super 8mm movies. I would have to view it again to see who the VIPS and stars were with his show. Jerry O'Connor USN Subic Bay 1972-1974.

  • @jrrcnnr Is it possible to upload to YouTube so we can all see your historic movie??? Thanks in Advance...

  • Thanks for the memories, Bob. RIP

  • Great

  • 1st Marine Air Wing...Da Nang...the guy was truely real when we weren't!

  • I remember seeing him in Okinawa, he was outstanding, but what I really remember as Ann-Margret, she said she wished she could go out with me! ....... well what she really said was she wished she could go out with each and every one of us :-)

  • WOW JUST FANTASTIC! MAY GOD'S GRACE BE WITH YOU. TRY THIS ORGASM OF A TREAT! GREAT FOR THE HOLIDAYS!!!

  • God Bless Bob Hope and the thousands of men and women who fight to keep us free!!!

  • Wish we had another selfless entertainer like Bob in today's world. We will never forget him.

  • I was fortunate to see his show at Keesler Field, Biloxi, Miss. during the Korean War.......Don Lanpher

  • What a wonderful, wonderful man. My father saw him in both WWII and Vietnam, and was so grateful that this Hollywood star took the time out to entertain the troops. We sure could use some more people with Mr. Hope's dedication and service.

  • What an amazing man. I wish more of those guys had refused to go to war, and lived to see more shows, and more babies born.

  • He was one in a million, and there will NEVER be another one like him. God Bless Bob Hope...what a treasure!!

  • It's too bad God made so few like him.

  • Thank God for people like Hope and thank you all who have served for my freedom. May God bless all.

  • What a great good man! Isn't it amazing how Silent Night touches something so very deep in the hearts of those men and women.

  • i only started listeing to old radio shows bob hope is a legend and makes me miss the old times

  • What a wonderful video of a wonderful man. What a heart he had. Where are the Bob Hopes of today? We still have troops risking their lives, they all still need a laugh, a cry, a reminder America knows & cares what they are doing every day of their lives! Thanks for posting this, I am blessed to have lived during Bob Hopes lifetime, I can only wish another steps up for this generation, our kids need to see this kind of genuine compassion for others.

God Bless America, and Bob Hope, may he RIP!

  • @kilokat819 Thank you, and much thanks to the uploader answerstolucky.

  • @johnnyrebell12 You used Veterans Day to put a slam on Bob Hope??? My father was stationed in Okinawa from '62-'66 as an airbase generator technician, and I don't think he ever had the privilege of seeing a live Hope show. As for being told when to laugh and clap, that's understandable to make the show sound a little better, if it was being taped or broadcast live on AFRN. Every TV show "coaches" its audience in the same way for some smoothness, but that doesn't cancel out the fun for everyone.

  • @stillonly35cents

I know really. Some people just have to be miserable.

  • Well you believe what you want, but in 56 I was stationed in Okinawa when Bob Hope and his show came there. I was forced to go see his show which i didn't appreciate, on top of that we were told when to laugh and clap, so i think a lot of his show were phoney. Maybe if I was in combat I to would want to take a break and get off the line, but being told either go to the show or go back on guard duty so some other guy could go that had the duty

  • Bob Hope lived to 100 years old simply because he wanted to. He couldn't be stopped by anyone. Hitler couldn't kill him, the Vietcong couldn't kill him. He willingly went into theaters of war for the United States so many times, in danger himself, with the sole reason of providing entertainment for the troops. He always presented himself as a "romantic coward," but he was actually a mighty warrior in his own way. Bob was made an honorary veteran, and the honor carries further into his afterlife.

  • @stillonly35cents Well said, my friend.

  • @stillonly35cents

You couldn't have said it better. He was truly an American heko as are all our soldiers.

  • @stillonly35cents Probably the best comment ever left on a You Tube video - thank you for that

  • There will never be another time that was so inspiring, our military has been hung out to dry, and no support of any kind...its nice to remember what it was to so many men.

  • I remember.....Joey Heatherton and Bob. I remember Ann Margaret and Bob. Bob sure hung around with some nice people........How dare some people say we weren't exceptional!

  • Bob Hope supported our troops before yellow ribbons, before we the public outwardly realized just what a huge sacrifice our troops (and their families) have made for us throughout the years. God bless Bob and the entertainers who went with him. And thank you!

  • The greatest entertainer that has ever been. Love this guy!!!!!!

  • God Bless Bob Hope...thanks for the memories!

  • God bless Bob Hope. We need people like him today.

    Things really have changed!

  • The world was just a better place with Bob Hope in it. He is sorely missed and I am afraid there will just never be another of his ilk. They said it best in the video, God Bless Bob Hope and I am sure he has many times over.

  • he was an awesome human being,so selfless

  • Will there ever be another person to do so much for our troops in this manner? There were so many others who donated their time and efforts right along with Mr. Hope. What a great last name to have! Thanks to him.

  • @mlgm1971 -The actor's name escapes me right now, but what about the guy that is in CSI: NY? I don't watch the show, but I always see him taking his "Uncle Dan" band overseas (He was in Forrest Gump too- geesh I cannot think of his name) and raising money for soldiers.

  • @FlossieDomingo You are talking about Gary Sinise. Yes, he gives of himself to many veterans groups unhesitatingly. Sinise performs with his band "The Lt. Dan Band" for the troops often and raises money for Wounded Warriors and other groups. He is a class act in the tradition of Bob Hope.

  • @fbrown172 YES!! Thank you! The Lt. Dan Band- I was way off. I don't want Gary Sinise to go unmentioned as there IS another person doing so much for our troops. Thanks!! :-)

  • Thank you Bob Hope! thanks for posting... Please check out my video 'Soldier Boy' (search Stu Aspinall). I wrote the song after being inspired by a young soldier who came back home from Afghanistan and Bosnia suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. He eventually lost his battle to PTSD. Proceeds from every download will be donated to support programs that help soldiers & their families try & deal with PTSD. Thanks for your support and thanks to soldiers everywhere for what you do.

  • Just recently watched WWII in HD, which was a ten part series from the history Channel.(Excellent by the way). And there was a good amount of footage from what the Marines stationed at Pavuvu had to do at Pelileu. My God. Really puts life in perspective. But then looking at their faces on this video and knowing what they would do in the following weeks,,,, enough to make a man cry.

  • Hey wcgosll: posting a plug for a politician on a site like this, especially calling that politician a hero is just plain inappropriate. The only true American heroes were buried in places like Normandy and Saipan.

  • Bob Hope was an immigrant to America. A loving adopted son.

  • I'm sorry to say there will probably never be another entertainer like Bob Hope. Today's Hollywood crop are just money-hungry, self-centered egocentrics. Most have never known poverty, war, deprivation. Their extent in American politics is spewing their liberal, anti-American, left-wing ideas with no tolerance for anyone whom they disagree with. Oh Bob Hope, if only we could have you back.

  • Bob Hope, one of a generation of great entertainers. His devotion to entertaining the troops was unmatched. Part of a Hollywood that does not exist any more. That sad excuse for self centered anti-american scum that now inhabit those halls, I'd like to bitchslap them and the 8 morons that disliked this.

  • A real American! Thank-you, Mr. Hope, for everything you did for our troops.

  • Beautiful

  • Rest in Peace, Mrs. Hope.

  • Brought back many memories, what great respect he had for our service men and women. One of a Kind.

  • God Bless Bob Hope

  • Thank you Bob for YOUR service.

  • BOB HOPE, YOU ARE ONE OF A KIND! You have been blessed tremendously by GOD w/your brilliant & amazing talents, & you have taken all those gifts & enlisted the biggest one - your heart! You have blessed countless millions throughout the world w/your amazing entertainment, & certainly you continued to bless the lives of our TROOPS over & over & over again. THANK YOU SO MUCH. You are 1 of a kind & I can't wait to meet you on the other side! I am about to embark on a similar journey w/our troops! XO

  • One of the greatest Americans of all time.

  • Didn't someone mention Hope and change ? Is RON PAUL the last hero ?

  • salute to the man who even when hippie scum was infecting the US, this great man still believed and supported our troops

  • If we haven't seen it already Bob should receive the Dept. of Defense Distinguished Civilian Service Award and Vietnam Civilian Service Medal.

    Thanks for the memories!

  • What a great display of Bob Hope and our troops, thanks for the emories!

  • The problem is today to many entainers are hate are Country, Bob Hope was true hero. Starting Jane Fonda Communist pice of garbage, Danny Glover, how much of Hollywood is anti-American, Pro Obama.

  • I never got to see BOB HOPE. He was always an insperation to everyone. Our group

the 63 MAW was honored to always fly the show around the world. And one Load-

master Smsgt Alvin Bradley was always requested to be part of the crew who was in the 15th MAS. God Bless BOB and AL. ED Jeffries Msgt USAF retired.

  • I would love to see today's entertainers do what Bob Hope has done! People are so wrapped up in the everyday, that they tend to forget that there are our troops out there fighting for our freedom!

  • Roy Acuff was another one who went all over the world for decades entertaining the troops...God Bless Bob Hope and Roy Acuff.
