  • Karl is fat

    From Chris Evans (asrc)

  • And you will be UGlY for the rest of your tiny and I have to say fairly sad little life Chris!

And I will be pumelling your head with a large and potentially rather heavy object at the next available opportunity.......... U R DOOMED!!

  • My housemate is going out with that guy....apparently he crashes a lot of the time.

  • I'm just going laugh at that bollocks ... Yes ignorant .

  • aah, and therefore prove my point then...

  • KarlSki - your saying skiing is more demanding than snowboarding haha You've obviously never tried or you have , and when you did you went in knowing that it's urgh boarding . It's harder to board on a dry slope than ski .

  • weee! Actually skiing is loads more demanding than boarding, Fact..

On a board you can only effectively do 4 different movements, left, right, heel edge, toe edge, thereafter all else is just combinations of these, such as foot steering etc. Therefore with just these 4 basics you have full control of your board, Simple see!

Now multiply this by a factor of 2, with independantly, uncontrolled wobbly skis..

Generally speaking I find it takes people half as long to be controlled on a board..

  • Part 2

However, this is where many guys stop learning, and this where skis start to become more interesting than boards. The 4 axis motion starts to become somewhat limiting, but inherently easier to master!! I've seen loads of really good boarders switch to 2 planks because they find it more interesting in the end, but to be fair a good number of those that fail to fully master skiing make the transition to boards. They find the tougher progression of skis just too frustrating!! But...

  • Part 3

I guess you're seeing that I call snowboarding less demanding, this is actual fact, speeds and grip demands placed by a board are loads lower than the forces a good skier will generate. I've yet to service a board that has melted ptex base!! Ski racers regularly produce base temperatures high enough to melt ptex, just stand at the bottom of the slope during a training session and smell the money burning off!

  • Part 4

I really luv the whole skier snowboarder thing! You can get some really creative energy flowing with skiers and boarders mixing it up, I've found though that in pow the difference between the two is less marked, this is the best terrain for a board, until you reach the flat and run out of steam! I dont claim to know everything about what goes on in the park, freestyle has always struck me as a young kids thing, but the skiers always seem to go higher and put in more to their moves

  • As we are not well blessed by the snow gods in UK, this is how we roll. Being a ski addict here can end up really expensive having to travel a minimum of 750 miles to reach the real stuff, so this type of slope is a viable alternative.

If you have sparked a bit of interest in artificial ski surfaces message me back and I'll send you a load of stuff!

    Wolfy365 welcome to British Skiing!!

  • i prefer riding on snow rather than some fake shit

  • I think some of you Yanks had better get used to it, cause as global warming gets worse, you'll end up losing some of your lower altitude resorts. in fact a few have been investigating laying plastic surfaces due to poor snow.....Ha!Ha!...

We all prefer snow but you'll start to find stuff like this more often, then you'll ski this 'fake shit' or maybe you'll just stop skiing. In the UK we are a bit tougher than this...

  • The safer carpetlike surfaces are great for less demanding uses like snowboard, freestyle or beginners. But when it comes to hard skiing its Dendix all the way. OK so you end up with broken thumbs every week, a small price to pay, plastic slope skiers end up learning how to bounce really well.

Skiing on this stuff is really like skiing on slightly softening ice, not quite as hard as pure boilerplate, but with practice and agression it really raises your game.

  • I take it you've never seen dendix then? It's a real nice surface for racing as it holds an edge real nice. The best artificial surface for racers, none of the 'safety' alternatives like snowflex really can get a nice carve! They just dont support the ski enough.

  • what the crap are they skiing on?
