Hadn't heard this in years. It was fun being in the studio with the great Tom Waits...I kept the original lyrics to Old Boyfriends written by Tom with a crayon. Bones Howe was the brilliant producer. Lucky me. Blessings, Edie
Edie Lehmann Boddicker is one of the best known session singers in the business. She also does a lot of film work. She was the vocal arranger on Happy Feet. She spent two years as an actress on General Hospital from late 1988, through the end of 1990. The singer here IS Edie, and not Crystal Gayle. Do a search here of Robert & Katherine 271, or Robert & Katherine 519 for some examples of the work she did while she was on GH. She is also a classical pianist. An extremely talented lady!
check the info on the right side... by the way, be sure to get the right dvd; there are two versions out there as far as i know... the one without the extras and the one containing the extras (among which the audiotracks and some other things)
i personally prefer tom's solo stuff over this, not that this isn't good, just he doesn't seem to feel the music when he sings with gayle - or at least that's what i get from it. Still a nice song though.
I still say that the Gayle/Waits partnership on this album worked great, as she sounded bluesy and jazzy on the duets, and adapted to Waits' style very well, and I'm not a fan of hers either. I did find the video of the film's opening minutes here on You Tube, so you can hear Waits and Gayle sing Once Upon a Town and Wages of love. So Waits tv, I beg to differ. Take another listen, maybe you'll change your mind. Hell, I'd like to see them perform those tunes live now in a concert.
The one in the movie, and the CD, is way, way better, as is Wages of Love, which no one has put on You Tube yet, apparently. Crystal Gayle and Tom Waits sounded really good together, and that's a fact, not an opinion!
This is neither Tom Waits nor Crystal Gayle. You want to hear the real version of this? Just watch video of "One From the Heart" or go onto iTunes and listen to the clip of this song. The original is magnitudes better than this.
If you're right... then who could this voice be? Anyone? Cause as far as I know, Chrystal was involved in the project from beginning to end. Nevertheless, a beautiful song, whoever sings the female lyrics.
True Crystal Gayle is the female singer on the soundtrack... but in this recording this is without a doubt not Crystal Gayle, Crystal's voice is much more strong, deep and rich with silky tones. I am not sure who it is.
What a great song. I love the play on words at the end, with someone I'll pick up after you.

The female voice you're listening to is indeed Edie Lehmann; never heard of her before... That's why I used photos of Crystal Gayle instead.
After all, she does sing this song in the final version on the album...
Thnx by the way for all your reactions, really appreciate them!

This is not Chrystal Gayle. This is a demo version with Edie Lehmann,

I know Crystal Gayle's voice very well and the female vocalist in this rendition of this song is not Crystal Gayle... not even close.
