The greatest car ever was, is, and will remain to be the McLaren F1. It made what you see today possible. It was the first car to be designed byvirtual stress test programs and was the first car ever to be engineered in a wind tunnel. The Bugatti is an extremely ugly, poor attempt to take the fastest speed records int he world but officially (due to stablizers) only tops out at 231 MPH not 250. Read the fine print it is all there.
i completely disagree Mr... The Bugatti Veyron does hit the 250mph/407kmh, in "speed mode", in which it folds all existent spoilers and wing to achive a lower air resistance. It hits 231mph in sport mode (that is all wings and stiff suspension my friend)
The stabilizers automatically not manually raise to keep the car plastered to the ground when you reach those speeds. Read the fine print not just the bold lettering when you read automotive articles. Besides spoilers and wings don't lower wind restistance they create more down force (more wind resistance but controlled to deflet air flow to create down force) Why do you all race cars use wings? To go faster? LOL sorry you are way off. You defeated your own logic.
evidently, on trying to read the fine print you didnt get the different driving modes. Sport (stiff and low suspension + wings) to go "faster" round the track having a greater downfaorce although more air resistence =231mph. Speed mode: stiff suspensions+ NO wings, for less air resistance (all downforce at those speed is made by underground vacum formed)=250mph. Please re read my first comment for any doubts.
Interesting because again I repeat the "BUGATTI COROPORATION (NOT A MAGAZINE MIND YOU) STATED that the car HAS TO HAVE THOSE STABILIZERS AND WERE ADDED AFTER THE DESIGN WAS FINISHED AND NOT BECAUSE THEY WANTED TO CREATE TWO MODES OF DRIVING, the athsetics (looks) were design before the aerodynmics were done and turned out to make the car dangerously unstable and the designers had to go back and add those automatic stabilizers. Stabilizers no matter what modes lowers speed. official 231MPH
mquirre/KaDuwin, great discussion guys. I love how you both eloquently stated your points based on fact without it turning another ranting session btw passionate car enthusiast. If I had a choice between the two, I'd pick the Zonda for its precision and the Bugatti for its sheer power. Zonda is the beauty and Bugatti the beast. So in closing, I'd take both.
I know what you are trying to do. You're degrading the Bugatti Veyron due to your affection for the Mclaren F1. If the Bugatti Veyron only has an official top speed of 231mph, why does Guinness World Records recognized the Bugatti Veyron as the Fastest Production Road Car in the world? And in speaking of modifications, did you know that the Mclaren F1's rev limiter has been increase from 7400rpm to 7800rpm when doing the Top Speed Run?
The wasn't recognized F1 in the guiness book for anything. The records for the F1 were official in the auotmotive community. I don't degrade cars. The veyron from engineering, racing, and performance stand points is a huge piece of shit. It was engineered backwards, plus the Lotec C1000 which had 1000 HP was enginneered had a higher top speed and did it with an twin turbo V8. Look it up.
You have to accept that the Mclaren F1's records has been surpassed by the Koenigsegg CCR and the Bugatti Veyron. How could you say "The Veyron from engineering and performance stand points is a huge piece of shit"? That's a very harsh thing to say. Even Gordon Murray didn't say that. In fact, he praised the car after he drove it. The Bugatti Veyron is still officially the fastest and most powerful production road car in the world with a proven 0-62mph of 2.5sec and a top speed of 253mph.
No actually it is 0 to 60 in 2.8sec not 2.5 or anything below 2.8, despite what any magazine says Bugatti says 2.8 and tops out at 231 with necessary stabilizers which had to be added because the aesthetics were designed before thw din tunnel work was done, That is why is ia piece of shit, the car was designed backwards, You do the aerodynamics first and then do the aesthetics. Plus the Ultia GTR is faster. 2.6sec 0 to 60.
I don't want to talk to you anymore. It really seems like you are mixing true facts to the facts that you made up just to degrade the Bugatti Veyron. Where do you get your facts from? Most of them are wrong. And what's your problem with stabilizers? Is it because the the Bugatti Veyron has them and the Mclaren F1 doesn't which makes the Veyron faster and more stable?
Dude I am not degradng anything you are not reading what I am saying you are simply looking to argue. I have no problem with stabilizers, my facts come fromt he manufacturers ONLY, and not from a third party. You got some serious issues. I reponded to someone else when this whole arguement started and you started to argue with me not the other way around.
Lets get the true facts correct. Bugatti (Manufacturer) claimed and proved the Bugatti Veyron will go from 0 to 62 mph (0-100km/h) in 2.5 secs. Autocar magazine (a third party) tested the Veyron's 0-60 times and the result is 0-60mph in 2.46secs. Bugatti claimed and proved (with the help of Car and Driver magazine) the Veyron has a Top Speed of 253mph. James May of Top Gear verified the Top Speed of the Veyron which 253.2mph (407km/h).
FIRST stop telling me to get my facts straight. Mine are straight and ARE not over exaggerated in any way. SECOND you said you weren't gonna waste your time on me on your last post, so don't. I don't have to sit here and prove you wrong, it is obvious to any one that is TRUELY knowledgable that you're mongloid when the subject of cars is concerned.
Just like I thought, you are degrading the Bugatti Veyron in favor of your beloved Mclaren F1. You really need to get you facts correct. Where do you get your facts from? I got my facts directly from the manufacturer's website and those facts are correct.
You are right though I am sorry if I typed something in response to someone else and I wasn't clear, I never meant to insult you or anyone else, I probably didn't type all that clearly and I htink we just had a misunderstanding, again I apologize for that.
I have to agree with amdbs. KaDuWin, your figures are incorrect and a bit in favor with the Mclaren F1. The Mclaren F1 has a top speed of 240.14mph not 241. Bugatti did claimed and proved the Veyron will do 0-62mph in 2.5 secs and a top speed of 253.2mph.
Be that as it may I got my figures from Bugatti as well now perhaps we have reached a misunderstanding and both are accurate figures but from different tests. However I assure my figures are as accurate as they could for both cars. I have the official book on the McLaren F1 written with Doug Nye, Ron Dennis, and the amazing Gordon Murray. But again I am sure there must be some misunderstanding thats all. Too bad AMDBS has act all infantile.
Kindly. The book is a rare Publish it is called "Driving Ambition" Look it up. It tells you everything, and I mean everything. The technology, the history, design principles, Cd. and CdA, the prototypes and base cars used, etc. like I said everything. Might have some trouble finding it though I did until I finally got my hands on it kind of expensive too.
I never swear at you or call you names in here before so don't you ever say that to me, you fucking asshole!! If you are going to insult somebody, be sure to spell it correctly!!
Infantile isn't a curse. It means you are acting childish, and I was never bashing the Veyron. I was making fun of broly2k7 because if you read his post and then mine carefully, he said that the Zonda topped out at 280MPH however because no one took the time to read what I was saying they just immediately jumped to the conclusion that I was bashing the veyron and supporting the F1, even though I never mentioned the F1 at all and I was supporting both and bashing broly2k7's comment.
There nothing wrong on using stabilizers on a production road car. You could only complain about the Bugatti Veyron's Top Speed, if the stabilizers where added only for the Top Speed run and it is not available for the production model. The Bugatti Veyron's stabilizers were added before the Top Speed run therefore the Bugatti Veyron is officially the fastest and most powerful production road car in the world with a proven a top speed of 253.2mph.
By the way unless you want someone to argue with you don't start telling someone they are wrong just because you say so. And please make sure you read everything properly. You misunderstood a lot of what I was saying, and then continued to argue with me like an adolescent moron about something different or something that you had already said and I responded too.
It has been it has been clocked at 268 MPH the problem is that they only made one car, so it isn't considered a true production car. Then comes the Koenigsegg CCX NOT CCR or CC8, the CCX tops out at 250MPH but only without the rear wing, then the McLaren F1 241MPH (onyl without rear wing) and then there are a few that are in the 230 range or close to it actually.
Lets get the true facts correct. The Mclaren F1 has a Top Speed of 240.14mph (240 mph) which was set on VW's Ehra-Lessien track by Andy Wallace. There are some people who claim the record is not true nor official due to the fact the car can be considered to be modified prior to the test - the rev limiter has been increased from 7400rpm to 7800rpm when doing the Top Speed Run.
The Koenigsegg CCR has a Top Speed of 241.01mph (241mph) which was set on Nardo circular test track.
My point abou the stabilizers is not to dispute whether or not the car can do it. My point is that the PRODUCTION CAR itself cannot go any higher than 231MPH because it HAS to have stabilizers there by the prototype version or preproduction model made that top speed but the actual production car did not and cannot.
The stabilizers is a part of the production car. They are included in the production car. The stabilizers were added during the development of the car which is before the preproduction model done the Top Speed run.
I don't understand you when you said the Bugatti Veyron is an ugly looking car. I admit it's not the best looking car but it's neither an ugly looking car. In what way does the Bugatti Veyron look ugly? There are lot of cars out there which are 10 times uglier.
there sure are but if I am gonna spend over a million dollars on car I better have a much better opinion towards it s look instead of, "eh its ok, you could always get uglier" The F1 is one of the most gorgeous cars ever, this is only my opinion.
Thi scar is far surpassed the SLR, Mercedes two greatest contributions to cars were the CLK GTR and the AMG tuned 12 cylinder found this one. The SLR doesn't knwo what it wants to be. It seems as though it trying to decide on being a super car or a touring car.
besides, 241mph, the McLaren feels as a totally unstable beast, while the Veyron feels much more stable ata an even higher speed. The McLaren was and is a wonderful and iconic car in the cars history, but in engineering evolution improves machines every year. So you can surpass the F1, especially with the VW Group's budjet sonny
Completely wrong, the Veyron not only does 231 not 250 MPH but it is also a lot more unstable than the F1. The Veyron was designed backwards Bugatti designed the asthetics first then after the car was completed they had to go back and add substantial stabylizers to help the car sustain stability which limited the car to 231MPH it onyl does 250 without stabilizers. By the way have you driven both cars?
of course i drove none of them, i justa had the possibility to read a michael andretti article of the f1 from a 2001 road&track (famous car magazine, well know driver), and a 2005 article from Motor und Sport (famous german car magazine). Did you test the top speed on both cars?
Definitely my favorite supercar ever built. It's gorgeous, the interior is amazing, the engine is a monster, and the carbon-fiber construction is astonishing. I truly love this car.
I would take this over any Koenigsegg ANY TIME, ANY PLACE.. I would take it over a MB SLR, Carrera GT, Ford GT, and all other cars.. It would be an extremely close battle between this and the Bugatti Veyron, Ferrari Enzo, and McLaren F1 but I think I would still choose the Pagani Zonda F clubsport over those two.. Best car ever made, or right at the top 4..
The Veyron is a car run by a mass of computers and is therefore not the spectacular engineering achievement people think it is. The same goes for the Enzo, and the McLaren F1 is almost free of those chains.
Are you saying a SLR (FRONT ENGINE!!!! GRAND TOURER!!!) is better than this?? i don't like the SLR because it was made to go on trips, for 60 year old golf players with a big trunk.. the Pagani Zonda is about the driver, and it is awesome.. I don't even think it has traction control.. so it is above the SLR in my opinion :)
Yes, except you're forgetting that the non-SLR lovers are attacking it on false grounds, calling it a terrible supercar because it has leather, a CD player and a boot for golf clubs. You have to remember the SLR is a super-GT, not just a Supercar.
Love the car for what it is and does, don't hate it for what it isn't supposed to be.
