@TheNuharoo you'd have thought? But unfortunately, it was very much a man's world back then. They were married, job done, don't care if it's a bad marriage...after all it was for the power as her father said "You are marrying into a good family" and of course the Boleyns were extremely rich and powerful. It's a shame it couldn't have been different.
A little kindness and decency towards Jane would have gone a long way towards saving George and possibly Anne from the scaffold. Couldn't they just be nice and reach out? Just once or twice?
0:39 - 1:13 they look like children being made to do something by their parents. the only difference is, the thing they're being made to do is marriage!
exactly the point. the actors in this show all look a bit older, in reality they weren't far off from children, no sexual liberty back then, no byfreinds/girlfreinds. you married as soon as your sexual desires caught hold most often and had shit loads of children
@Natulcien1992 yes it is, because by that point, henry was tired of anne and had already decided to groom jane seymour to be his next wife by making her a lady in waiting to the queen
Am I the only one that find this very funny? Sorry but this seems taken from a cheap comedy at least during the wedding scene, Anne´s face at the minute 1:03 is priceless. But yeah is really sad, how Jane, George, Anne and Cramwell ended up.
wow thomas was a really dangerous name to have at that time- thomas moore, thomas culpepper, thomas bolynne, and thomas cromwell all have two things in common- 1) they were executed and 2) their names were thomas.
This may sound dumb but did George rape her becos the scene where he was ontop of her and she was crying looked like she didn't want to have sex with him x especially the way he did it x
@JuzTudor70AD Their life at court was recorded well and George spent much of his time with a group of men that were rumored to be involved with other men
@Charmedfan2010 Alison Weir's book, The Lady In The Tower, contained a very strong inference, if not "a smoking gun" that George Boleyn, Lord Rochford, was homosexual or bisexual which disgusted his wife. That was Lady Rochford's main motivation for turning on him and giving evidence against him to Thomas Cromwell. The TV show contained a lot of these types of sensationalistic inferences that aren't accepted by established academic historians.
Lady Rochford is also represented on season two of the Showtime series The Tudors, by actress Joanne King opposite Irish actor Padraic Delaney as her husband George. In this version, their marriage is miserable, with both pressured into it by their parents and Jane finding it increasingly humiliating to put up with her husband's homosexual love affair with Mark Smeaton. They are shown frequently arguing and there is one incident of marital rape.
I think the program was terrific; however, I fear too many inaccuracies and unproven court gossip will become history in viewer's minds. George is depicted poorly as are others in the series.
Love this woman!!!! George was such an ass to her! and he apparently wasn't much better in real life either. I'm not sure how Anne really treated her, but in these scenes she doesn't really help and in other fictional accounts like "The Other Boleyn Girl" she's mean to her. I can see why Jane Parker felt no loyalty. On another note, does Anne deliberately comment on Henry's virility at that moment so that Jane Seymour will hear her? The girl she was looking at looked like JS. That's hilarious!
This is a TOTAL surprise that George Boleyn was lovers with Mark Smeaton!!! I thought he was too below him for George to even consider taking him as a lover. Plus, I 've read that Mark Smeaton had a crush on Anne and that's why they singled him out for accusation. Wow! I've only seen the first season of The Tudors. The other seasons are on wait list at my library, so I was lucky I got to see the first season.I can't wait to see the rest of them when they come available. Thanks for posting.
I hate Jane!! Fine, her husband was terrible to her but come on!! How she treated Catherine Howard in S4 was inccusable!! She was only a kid, naive! She laughed at her!
I felt very bad for Jane Parker but I still think that it was very cruel and vengeful for her to falsely accuse George and Anne. I know she was trying to save her life, but I think she also took pleasure in getting her husband killed.
It looks very painful. He did not even finger her. Generally speaking, the husband should spend at least half an hour performing cunnilingus to achieve some lubrication.
I don't like the way Jane Parker was pictured in the show, she seems to be the bad guy in the whole story - and pretty much in S4 too. We basicaly know nothing about her in reality, so everyone just comes up with a bad role and stuff.
It seems to be thought that George was indifferent to his wife, and the reason why his wife was as vindictive as she was, was put down to her jealousy of her husbands devotion to his sister - well both his sisters She has, I have read, been noted down in history as not being mentally stable, She wasnt exactly a nice woman, she was quite prepared to sign a statement saying that Anne of Cleves had cast a spell on Henry to "unman" him , and this whilst serving as her maid in waiting nice lady huh?
@ZashleyLife If their marriage was not consummated, then Jane Parker would have valid reasons to annul the marriage which is bad for George as his enemies might view him as impotent. Historicans concluded their marriage as an unhappy one but there's no concrete evidence abt George being gay. The incest thing is fake but Jane chose to give testimony either to freed herself from her unhappiness or to save herself since Henry VIII was all out to get rid of the Boleyns at that time
@JuzTudor70AD yes that is a very good analysis of the situation. And yes you are right when you say there is no concrete evidence about his homosexuality. But I think some have suspected him of it so it may yet be true. And as to Jane herself it was probably a combination (a kind of kill two birds with one stone thing), to disassociate herself with the boleyn and give herself a chance for happiness.
@ZashleyLife I think like what has been already said that it was to be to consumate the marriage. I think that he made it horrible on Jane so that she would perhaps not want any further sex.
@ZashleyLife, from what I've read, George and Jane's marriage was sort of a mystery.Obviously both of them hated each other, but from what I understand, there is still some debate whether George was gay or not. I've read both that he was gay & I've read where he had other women lovers & I've also read that he swung from both sides of the hip.Idon't know if we will ever know anything about their marriage except for dramatic licence taken in movies & TV show..
@ProudKansan08 In those days there were no big distinctions we make now about categorizing people's sexuality. Boys would be boys (with women of the "lower classes" or with other boys) and "upper class women" carried children (hopefully legitimate). End of story. Unless, they were caught, people sort of turned a blind eye on many things (unless it was adultery with the Queen). So it's very possible George was bi-sexual like many of his contemporaries, without giving much thought to it.
@ZashleyLife, I'm ansering you tongue in cheek, but maybe she didn't want 'it' up her rear! Since George is such a mystery, maybe he could only perform sex one way, anally, and to some women, that's not an acceptable way.Don't blame Jane Parker.Maybe that's why she hated him so much.He raped her anally whenever he felt like being with her.Who knows?
@ZashleyLife This is a dramatic portrayal, and although much of the series features accurate historical data, it is inaccurate in its focus on sex and violence. No evidence exists of a homosexual George Boyeln, just insinuation and certainly no one was around to witness rape of his wife (which is portrayed as anal intercourse. In a new biography of the Boyeln's, the homosexual insinuation is addressed and discredited.
Based on the show, Cromwell was gathering "evidence" of Anne's "adultery". He was simply twisting Madge's statement of sibling affection into incest. It worked to his advantage since the Boleyns were no longer his allies
She's a bitch ! Ok he violed her but she accused him to have sleep with his sister just because she's knew that He has a love affair with a man and for her it's was a sin against god ! Because of her Anne and George were executed ! I don't like her
@LadyKnight6 Well dear Lady Jane did get hers in the end. She found herself going up the chopping block for her role with Catherine Howard. All she did was hook up Catherine Howard up with Thomas Culpepper & they all had a little taken off the top.
if you read history and you will know that some letters from the time say that anne was very beautiful and jane was her opposite a very modest and ugly woman. jane didin't know how to write her own name
You know I kind of get this. My brother is very caring towards me but really mean to most other girls. So I can see how someone can be mean and nice at once. Poor Jane.
There is no solid proof that George was a homosexual. We know that Jane Boleyn wasn't innocent either. I think that when she said what she did about George, she was in fear for her own life. Little did she know she'd be executed later on.
I don't know why Greorge didn't like Jane? Jane was beautiful and not just the actress who played her there is a drawing bu Hoblein of Jane thats show's how beautiful she was.
@TudorRose85 That maybe true but if you ask me George had about as much common sense or smarts as a milk bucket under a bull. Put it another way in the words of Trisha Yearwood song "She's in love with the boy." "When it comes to brains he got the short end of the stick."
yes george boleyn and jane did not like each other and were unhappy in their marriage according to the things we know. However Jane was not as innocent as the tudors portray her to be. She gave the testimony against george and she was involved with norfolk and plotted in her later years which led to her execution.
you can find out by researching her like I did. it was also said that she never actually accused George and Anne of anything, but rather she was terrified and only gave them enough evidence that they could twist and use to their advantage... silly stuff that she didn't believe would get them in trouble.
That incest bullshit was a lie. They don't even have any evidence that George Boleyn was a homosexual, much less violent. In fact, his scaffold speech was one of the most eloquent, and he died brave, honorable, and fairly well-liked. He's nothing like how they portray him here.
And ramaxnation is totally right about Jane.
Henry just wanted to be rid of Anne. I don't necessarily *like* Anne Boleyn, but I don't hate her, and she was quite intelligent.
jane parker was portrayed as a victim seeking revenge in this programme..if you read or watch other plays/books ..she is portrayed as a sick minded obsessed bitch who was so in love with george boleyn that she would rather see him dead than see him love his sisters more..
Oh man that marriage would have never happened like that. I wonder what got into her when she saw him - intuition? And honestly, I would have stayed quiet...gay husband, no kids...no death in childbirth - sweet deal, get all the money, prestige and have to do nothing.
Personally I'd feel better if my husband cheated on me with a man rather than a woman. It's like, I don't have the right equipment so I had no chance anyway.
She was one of those women who had an awful marriage and wanted someone else to fix it. If your husband is fucking gay and you can not divorce him... cheat him as well.
george boleyn and mark smeaton were gay in the 16th century, that is funny. did George and Mark really have sex with Ann Boleyn or was that just rumors?
@ProfessorSSJ and yes, poor anne! The King cut off her head based on lies!! Yes, I agree, she did make a name for herself, and climbed to the top by cutting everyone's throats.. but in the end, how she died was wrong..
Everyone knew it was a lie. The king, Norfolk, Cromwell....everyone. Even the people who hated her admitted that. Henry just wanted to be rid of her. He could have just sent her to an Abbey....but as clever as she was.....
No, they didnt. It was on the evidence of George's wife Jane Parker that both he and his sister Anne were sent to thier deaths -She held onto her title because she turned evidence for the King against Anne - She also agreed to give evidence to the fact that Anne of Cleves was a wtich and had unmanned the King, which was why he couldnt consumate the marriage with her - but she wasnt required to do so in the end as Anne of Cleves was divorced. Jane Parker was not a pleasant character at all-
I completely agree. If my dad tried to marry me off for money I'd kill him, but this poor girl, George was a shit and whatever Anne did, HE deserved to die.
all the other t.v. dramas and books involving jane show her too be a tratore and a nasty peice of work, but the tudors helps u understand more i guess.
i still think sending her own husband and his sister who were innocent to the scaffold wrong - but she isnt as cold hearted as she i stypically painted up to be
I pity Jane Parker. Her life was hard. I'm glad she found a friend in Queen Jane. And i understand why she aided Katherine Howard in her love affairs. She knew what it was liked to be in a married to a man she did not love.
Because she wasn't gentle to her and didn't pay attention to her feelings, and he was totally drunk. (In the uncensored version it looked like he just rapped her.)
juztudor70ad thanks for the video of jane parker i always felt through the season 2 of the tudors she was hardly shown at all, so it is good to have this video! thx again!!! : D
Ya welcome. Jane Parker's scenes were pretty brief but we would see her final performance the next season, during which she & Katherine Howard were executed for treason
thanks mr. tudor historian ( just kidding) but yes she may had revenge in your video of her but on the block it gives it all to her head because she lived her head in the clouds with katherine so we all know rest. thank you once more my friend. - gillygaby23
If you had read my comment properly you would have noticed that I wrote "Although the lies may have been truth it seems doubtful " but then again Anne did steal KOA's husband, so anything with her is possible....
This is a difficult issue for me. As team Bolger/Doyle Kennedy I really disliked Anne's treatment of both Mary and Catherine. But all the same it was totally horrible how Jane Rochford told those lies, so I can't really feel that sorry for her. Although the lies may have been truth it seems doubtful but the again if Anne can steal another womans husband....
you believe Anne was guilty? Please read a history book or a serious biography other than The Other Boleyn GIrl. Most historians and biographers, even those hostile to Anne, with the exception of PG, believe Anne to be innocent of the charges that led to her death.
Frankly, Henry juz wanted to get rid of Anne at all costs whether the charges are real or fake... It's his way of getting a clean slate. As for Jane Parker, Hell hath no fury for a woman scorned...
I agree with you. Anne's treatment of Mary and Katherine was harsh but she didn't deserve death for it. I think if Jane hadn't signed that declaration Henry would have made up something else. And as for people who believe what Phillipa Gregory has written especially the Anne's so called relationships is wrong! Most true historians such as Antonia Fraser and Alison Weir regard her as completely innocent of any charges apart from her comments that were made from temper. She didnt deserve to die.
i dont think so...im pretty sure they were married way before anne married henry, she was meant to be jealous of georges close relationship with his sisters
I don't understand how Lady Rochford went from this....to the one who led Kitty Howard to her death. More jealousy...

I don't know why Greorge didn't like Jane? Jane was beautiful and not just the actress who played her there is a drawing bu Hoblein of Jane thats show's how beautiful she was.
TudorRose85 2 years ago
based on this tv show, it seemed that the marriage was done for political reasons and probably against George's will.
JuzTudor70AD 2 years ago
@TudorRose85 That maybe true but if you ask me George had about as much common sense or smarts as a milk bucket under a bull. Put it another way in the words of Trisha Yearwood song "She's in love with the boy." "When it comes to brains he got the short end of the stick."
deloufu 1 year ago
yes george boleyn and jane did not like each other and were unhappy in their marriage according to the things we know. However Jane was not as innocent as the tudors portray her to be. She gave the testimony against george and she was involved with norfolk and plotted in her later years which led to her execution.
lucyluuuxxxx 2 years ago
Jane was later executed herself. And before she died, she took back what she said about George and Anne.
Vauthier 2 years ago
did she how do you know?
xsexyminxyx 2 years ago
you can find out by researching her like I did. it was also said that she never actually accused George and Anne of anything, but rather she was terrified and only gave them enough evidence that they could twist and use to their advantage... silly stuff that she didn't believe would get them in trouble.
Vauthier 2 years ago
That incest bullshit was a lie. They don't even have any evidence that George Boleyn was a homosexual, much less violent. In fact, his scaffold speech was one of the most eloquent, and he died brave, honorable, and fairly well-liked. He's nothing like how they portray him here.
And ramaxnation is totally right about Jane.
Henry just wanted to be rid of Anne. I don't necessarily *like* Anne Boleyn, but I don't hate her, and she was quite intelligent.
escucha1797 2 years ago
jane parker was portrayed as a victim seeking revenge in this programme..if you read or watch other plays/books ..she is portrayed as a sick minded obsessed bitch who was so in love with george boleyn that she would rather see him dead than see him love his sisters more..
ramaxnation 2 years ago
You have to admit that George Boleyn wasn't the ideal husband.

Was George Boleyn gay?

There's no definative proof, but it is strongly suspected
ProfessorSSJ 2 years ago
Oh man that marriage would have never happened like that. I wonder what got into her when she saw him - intuition? And honestly, I would have stayed quiet...gay husband, no kids...no death in childbirth - sweet deal, get all the money, prestige and have to do nothing.

All the evidence was forged. King Henry 8 is a lying cheating, selfish sone of a bitch!!(no offense to his mother Elizabeth of York)

YES! I agree wholly and heartily!

Personally I'd feel better if my husband cheated on me with a man rather than a woman. It's like, I don't have the right equipment so I had no chance anyway.
RedVelvet777 2 years ago
You bitch!
I hate you Jane Parker ¬¬
She was one of those women who had an awful marriage and wanted someone else to fix it. If your husband is fucking gay and you can not divorce him... cheat him as well.

george boleyn and mark smeaton were gay in the 16th century, that is funny. did George and Mark really have sex with Ann Boleyn or was that just rumors?
alchemistxp2 2 years ago
no, they were trumpted up charges so Henry VIII could be free to marry her lady in waiting Jane Seymour and produce a male heir to the throne.

Poor Anne? She was hardly the victim, except for Karma, which came around for all of thier heads, including Jane's in the end.
ProfessorSSJ 2 years ago
@ProfessorSSJ well, thank you for your opinion Professor.
TheBeachbum03 2 years ago
@ProfessorSSJ and yes, poor anne! The King cut off her head based on lies!! Yes, I agree, she did make a name for herself, and climbed to the top by cutting everyone's throats.. but in the end, how she died was wrong..
TheBeachbum03 2 years ago
Everyone knew it was a lie. The king, Norfolk, Cromwell....everyone. Even the people who hated her admitted that. Henry just wanted to be rid of her. He could have just sent her to an Abbey....but as clever as she was.....

@ProfessorSSJ it's a sad story!

I never got why Goerge turned around and made a face to his dad? He was acting like a little boy. Why?

well...based on most tv dramas, George never intended to marry Jane from the start.. sadly, most marriages were made out of political reasons

was she crying when he had sex with her? why?

Because she wasn't gentle to her and didn't pay attention to her feelings, and he was totally drunk. (In the uncensored version it looked like he just rapped her.)

Ya welcome. Jane Parker's scenes were pretty brief but we would see her final performance the next season, during which she & Katherine Howard were executed for treason
JuzTudor70AD 2 years ago
thanks mr. tudor historian ( just kidding) but yes she may had revenge in your video of her but on the block it gives it all to her head because she lived her head in the clouds with katherine so we all know rest. thank you once more my friend. - gillygaby23

If you had read my comment properly you would have noticed that I wrote "Although the lies may have been truth it seems doubtful " but then again Anne did steal KOA's husband, so anything with her is possible....

CallXenaWarrior 2 years ago
This is a difficult issue for me. As team Bolger/Doyle Kennedy I really disliked Anne's treatment of both Mary and Catherine. But all the same it was totally horrible how Jane Rochford told those lies, so I can't really feel that sorry for her. Although the lies may have been truth it seems doubtful but the again if Anne can steal another womans husband....
TudorsGossipGirlfan 2 years ago
yeah... but I feel that Jane was desperate to break out from her unhappy marriage, so, she took the opportunity the moment it was represent to her.
JuzTudor70AD 2 years ago
you believe Anne was guilty? Please read a history book or a serious biography other than The Other Boleyn GIrl. Most historians and biographers, even those hostile to Anne, with the exception of PG, believe Anne to be innocent of the charges that led to her death.
AnaliaHyrule 2 years ago 3
Frankly, Henry juz wanted to get rid of Anne at all costs whether the charges are real or fake... It's his way of getting a clean slate. As for Jane Parker, Hell hath no fury for a woman scorned...
JuzTudor70AD 2 years ago
I agree with you. Anne's treatment of Mary and Katherine was harsh but she didn't deserve death for it. I think if Jane hadn't signed that declaration Henry would have made up something else. And as for people who believe what Phillipa Gregory has written especially the Anne's so called relationships is wrong! Most true historians such as Antonia Fraser and Alison Weir regard her as completely innocent of any charges apart from her comments that were made from temper. She didnt deserve to die.
Radikalgurl09 2 years ago
Poor jane? Sure, she went through some rough times...but to lie about her brother and Anne is horrible...she basically lead them to their deaths.
Leeloominai356 2 years ago 2
No, Henry and only Henry was responsible for George and Annes deaths, not to mention both could have avoided it if they had been less ambitious.
