Vid guy you should drive by any school in your town and count all of the foreign cars........paid for by the union dollar..........yea union strong
@videoguy604 Yea what ever makes you feel good. Just remember when you pass a school or grocery store that all those jap. cars were bought by proud union members..............union strong.....ha..ha..ha
@stlB420 Here's a fact asshole scott walker doesnt have a college degree in anything and he is the gov. of wisconsin. How did that happen? So who's dumb? Apparently You are too because Campaign is spelled like this.
@MilTownclown Yeah you pretty much made my point...........The people of wi. have been dumbed down as a result of teachers union protecting incapable teachers and sending good teachers down the road.........because they havent been paying the extortion/union dues long enough. Thanks again dim wit!!
When a company cuts back on its budget, it's either a product of a lack of demand or a poor business model. People generally understand. However, when a state is forced to cut back on its budget thereby laying off employees, it's an attack on the working class and an affront to their rights and liberties.
This is the mentality that I detest about socialism and is exactly the reason why, currently, there is rioting in Greece and other predominately socialized nations.
Every parent should get vouchers/tax credits and should be able to spend that money at what ever school they choose. I pay taxes and I dont want a dime of my taxes going to schools............I'd like my money to go for bridge repair, at least we'd see bridges get built. We could spent every dollar in the U.S. and schools would still be below standard.
@stlB420 No they shouldn't. Public funds go to public facilities that are accountable to the public. We don't give public money to private bridges roads, and libraries. Public money is for public services. If people want to go to private school they should be allowed to- but not with public money. The same is true with those who want to use private libraries and museums.
@Moionfire Schools are'nt accountable to the public if they were there would'nt be plunging test scores of the last 25yrs.
Schools are accountable to the gov. though.........thats why they suck....the gov. The ultimate in accountablity is the dollar, if you could choose where you want to spent your money for education schools would get better. I'm not talking about sending your kids to a "rich peoples school" either. If the kid that cuts your grass does a bad job would you pay him more?
@stlB420 The parents can change curriculum and demand changes in public education because they can change the government. They can't do it with vouchers/charter/private schools.
@Moionfire Yea right the parents always side with the teachers.......always. If teachers say the curriculum is fine and the parents support them........teachers say they need a 5% raise every year and the parents support them. I think most parents are stupid also so it doesnt suprise my at all. Look at saint louis city schools, most high school grad cant read..........but the parents support the teachers. The mayor tried to change up the schools but the teachers and parents hated the idea.
@stlB420 The school board in most cities are elected by the people. This simply isn't the case in private/charter schools. Public schools aren't perfect but they at least are monitored and accountable to the public.
@Moionfire Yes their elected by people......very stupid people who end up electing former teachers and house wives. Were's the balance, union contracts get approved over and over again....but........it's for the children. Also private schools are accountable to the parents of the children and the gov, and they always have better scores and more sucessful students. Now back to my question, would you go back to a mechanic after he failed to fix your car and pay him twice as much the 2nd time
@Moionfire Thru college enrollment stats and life time earning............private school kids grow up to design robots and public school kids grow up to grease the robot and change it's oil. Yup thats what public schools do they make the idiots who join unions and vote for dems. The dems in turn give more money to unions and none for education, so another class of future card carriers/dem voters hits the market. It's pretty slick I admit, it's amazing how many idiots there are...public schools?
It's funny... Republicans have "drawn the line" when it comes to oil subsidies and corporate jet loopholes.... but they're more than willing to cut seemingly insignificant funds that provide services to the vast majority of Americans. Cut national park funding in the millions? Fine... Cut corporate jet loopholes and oil subsidies that are in the billions? "Oh, no-no-no... can't have that. Gotta protect the rich man."
The bankers who created the financial mess which in turn created all of these budget problems across the nation are the ones who should be paying for all of this. While they are currently making record profits, they should be the ones who should be donating their pay and bonuses to the public good. I'm a teacher in New Zealand. I feel sorry for US students and teachers. I also had a year in US classes when a teenager and it was a little better 15 years ago.
I feel sorry for the students but why should I feel sorry for teachers?............I mean most teachers make at least $46k a year with insurance and pension provided........not too bad for 9months work. Should we just pay the teachers more....... will the children be taught properly if the teachers make more. Because that's what the fight has been brought down to.
@stlB420 You don't have schools without teachers. When it comes down to it, that payment isn't much. Teachers work 60 plus hours per week in most cases. In the monetary system we have, more people would be interested in teaching if paid better. Most do it for the love of it however. My understanding of curriculum standards, the US system is lacking in many places. And the fight is about cutting spending because 'public workers' are seen as greedy, however they are far from that.
@cactuskiwi I'd like to see a teacher who works 60hrs. a week , They arrive 20-30min. before the students and leave 10-15min. after the kids......around here kids are at school from 7:30-2:30. So at the most teachers work 40-45hrs a week..............for 9 months a year. And speaking of curriculum changes, around saint louis the teachers union fights them.........it's to much for the teachers to deal with! Good teachers will make more money without unions.....bad teachers will find a new jobs.
@stlB420 I will go back to my original point and restate it a little. I feel sorry for US based students for the standards set. They is why the US is falling apart due to the policies the US states and federal government make. The US is falling behind. This is from a teacher from over seas and a former student in the states. And seeing what a teacher does and the reality of what a teacher does are do different things. Planning is needed and assessment is made out of school hours.
@stlB420 Getting around to " fight is about cutting spending because 'public workers' are seen as greedy"....well they are! Secretarys make 36k in a competitive market, public employee union secretarys make 55k with free ins. and a pension. Tree trimmers 40k private--public union 60k and again free ins. and pension. Pretty soon no one will want to work outside the gov......since the pays 40% more. I dont have nor do I want kids but I have to overpay teachers who do a poor job.
I was educated in a public school in Ontario Canada, went on to receive a Hons BA in History from one of Canada's best ranked universities, and then studied Law at the LSE in London, England and received an Hons LLB. I am currently working on an LLM and MA in Law and Economics. I have spend years trying to undo the garbage I was taught in my history and economics classes in high school and ungrad by my essentially socialist educators. So much so that I laugh out loud writing this.
Is it super conservative to realize that the U.S. has been pouring money in to the education problem for 30+ years as though is was water on a five alarm fire..........And the kids have been getting less and less education every year. Sooooo who's gained from all of the public investment the teachers?........yea they've come out pretty clean but the big winner has been the union.......and through campaign funds the democrats........poor people always vote for the dem.
You'll have a much more freer nation if the citizen are educated and thus as a large more productive to the democratic process. Take away education accessibility for the majority and only the minority will control the source of knowledge.
I believe that it'd be better if schools were privatized BUT parents received an education tax credit that they could use towards paying for schools, books and supplies, etc.
Private schools aren't a bad thing if they're done properly. They have a higher standard of education, are more competitive, pays teachers well while eliminating the union and offer the parents choices.
What they're doing right here, though, is wrong. It won't benefit those children and won't make anything better.
We spend more money per student than any other country and get among the worst results in the developed world. They shouldn't make cuts, they should completely shut it down and rebuild it from the ground up without the discredited blank slate doctrine as the pillar of their pedagogical theory.
Interesting that the video never states that the number of childern are actually decreasing and therefore less teachers will be needed. Just becuase you have a budget of X this year, doesn't mean you need X + Y next year. It is called zero based budget reviews and it should be required for all federal and state budgets - you get what you need not what you want or got last year. This is the publics money.
to Captcrais101 - Private education almost always produced better students as evidenced by their higher attendance in college and better wages after high school. This result is irrespective of their socio-economic status. Question really is why are these unions demanding to consign their students to poorer educational standards and performance all to empower their union masters.
@stlB420 No actually public school and public university. But I am smart enough to read the studies that have been produced. Why is it Anti-American to give parents a choice of where their child is educated? When did the students become the wards of the state? Give them a voucher and have them choose the best school for their child. If public schools are soooo much better than they will receive the lionshare of the students. Competition will produce better results for our childern.
@stlB420 Sorry. Interesting that Libs who run the school system entirely can't seem to make it work on the basis of their ideals. More money does not equal a better education and states unlike the Federal government must live within their budget and tax revenues.
If you can find a recent study to substantiate that claim I'd like to see it. Most I can find are from 10 years ago. More recent studies that account for socio-economic status and random sampling seem to indicate either no difference, a slight edge to public education, or a slight edge to private catholic schools for minorities.
Personally I think there's zero advantage and it's just people fighting over ideology. The key is not to screw over kid's education in the process.
Same thing as what happened in Ontario in the 90s when Mike Harris and his conservatives declared war on public education - and the kids (which included me back then), of course, were the ones who really suffered.
You poor poor child..............have you joined a union yet they'll help you...............j/k the only thing they'd do is help you part from your money..............you fool
@stlB420 Sorry there bub you're actually wrong. You should have tried to get an education, now your head is just full of wet shit right wing nonsense. You laughing stock.
Right now poor people sent their kids to public schools and the low quality teachers arent teaching them anyway. Teachers should come out and admit that the only thing that matters is their pension....they would sell poor kids into slavery to keep the pension funded!!!!
With the kind of leaders we see in the US a well educated well informed and enlightened citizenry is NOT something they want. It behooves them to have an uneducated, easily led, unquestioning, citizenry which is incapable of critical thinking. In a healthy well rounded society you'd never see anyone like bush and the rest being placed in positions of authority. The US is being tricked yet again into Corporate welfare which has repeatedly failed. But the lesson is never learned.
The upper class has gotten larger i/e most folks left the unions and have made more money (moved up the social ladder). Lots of folks see unions for what they are.......extorters .....................just saying.........
Of course there's always lazy people who dont want to go to school.........dont want to stand on their own two feet and earn their own money. <----- those folks want to be middle class were life is easy, Thats why their all still union members
All great pionts nibud................Sheesh you cant make any points, because you have none! You just listen to everything your B.A. tells you and then you behave like a good little card carrier. Since you dont know shit you just want to drag me down to your level and beat me over the head with stupidity..........there's no way I could win as you union folks seem to have the market cornered on stupidity.
Right now poor people sent their kids to public schools and the low quality teachers arent teaching them anyway. Teachers should come out and admit that the only thing that matters is their pension....they would sell poor kids into slavery to keep the pension funded!!!!
@stlB420 not true. I went to public school and tho I consider myself middle class my best friend is dirt poor and he did so well in school he got some scholarship money to attend Washington and Lee U in WV where as far as I can tell he is doing great. The public school system I was raised in was awesome, wouldnt have changed a thing, and I loved most of my teachers. It seems that you are trying to say that teachers go into the profession for the money...That is fucking laughable!u homeschooled?
@qualityrkc Yeah I think teachers only do it for the money. They only work for 9mo. a year but make 45-65k a year (not including ins. and pension) It's a great gig I cant blame them I just think they should wear mask and gloves............Plus how many folks could do a bad job year after year (getting worst by the year btw) and not only not get fired but get a raise every year!!!!
Yes I have two cousins who are teachers, I also have 3 neighbors who are teachers. Their all idiots who were to lazy to get a real jobs (like accountants, nurses, ect, ect) that required 12 month a year attendance.
@stlB420 I forgot to add that we've had slipping test scores for the past twenty years............Just what do we have to pay these idiots. How much do we have to give them so they will do their jobs?
I used to be a union construction worker but got sick of not working year round and never knowing what you'd make next year. So I quit paying the extortion money and started my own small bussiness.....I'm not making millions but I am much happier now. I stand on my own two feet and dont have to wait by the phone all winter long for some union boss to let me know it's ok to work this week. If it matters I worked for 7yrs. and only earned 4yrs credit in the pension plan 5 is vested
Why do you want to send some union goon squad to fire bomb my biz.? I would understand it you did....I mean you've got to keep the voice of dissent hushed right?
if we cant afford to educate our own children then what is the point of empire? We work more than other countries only to receive less social services. IM SICK OF THIS SHIT.
I think we all know what it's going to take to stop the insane greed of the rich... the question is... what will be the event that precipitates the initial flash of the powder keg.
Here I am 8 min into it and all they have done is give a 10 sec soundbite defending the defunding of a completely FAILED SCHOOL SYSTEM while they've blathered for 8 min about how scary it is. what a JOKE. just want to say that, coming from a nonpartisan graduate student from MIT. I don't even have a defined ideology and and generally apathetic about politics. And this is basically why. Morons just listen to this kind of biased shit and my vote can never counter the millions or morons.
@Everett345 "I don't even have a defined ideology and and generally apathetic about politics.", you're a Ron Paul supporter then, stupid oversimplified answers to difficult problems.
@Joeybagadounuts08 Your post just shows how thin your arguement is!!...........................(mating call of the soon to be extinct red assed union moran)------------> It's all Bushs fault....whaaaa......it's all Bushs fault.....whaaaa....
@stlB420 I have no argument. Poorly educated children from economically challenged communities produce more soldiers, due to lacking opportunity. I am pro-worker, but am a business owner myself (not union). I blame Bush and Obama (along the general public for defending either of them). You seem to be blaming unions. Since you are an enlightened person, I'm entertaining your response.
@Joeybagadounuts08 Economically challenged communities have always had opportunity with the armed forces.............not unions.......and what have the dems. done to help............nada.......
Yes I blame unions for a lot.........and there crooked asses earn every ounce of it. btw I dont believe that your a bussiness owner I think your just an out of work union schlub
Lol@ "progressives" who think that public schooling somehow serves the poor well. The government is a tool of the moneyed classes. Public schools only serve to inculcate the youth into the dominant corporatist/statist culture.
Funny how the rise of the middle class in this country came right along with unions, and as the unions are destroyed so has been the fate of the middle class...just saying.
<----- those folks want to be middle class were life is easy, Thats why their all union members
the taxpayer milk cow is dry, hooray, leftist professors wildly successful and get their final victory
A once globally admired system ruined by liberals, greed & propaganda of socialist union leaders. Abolish Dept of Education, fire the teachers, plenty of private schools to undo the damage done by public schools
@MrGAB4444 blaming the "liberals" is as meaningless as blaming the "Conservative" not to mention, you should apply this simple phrase to yourself before you post such spectacularly ignorant material; It is better to remain silent and appear a fool than it is to ope your mouth and remove all doubt. Children of liberals suffer as much as children of conservatives from stuff like this.
@MrGAB4444 fact the smartest states are massachusetts, new york, vermont and conn. all democratic states. mass. has the lowest divorce rate. on the other side of it mississippi, alabama and texas are the lowest in education and have the highest divorce rate. so go marry your cousin, watch fox "news" and ruin this country. the trickle down economy or as GHW bush called it "voodoo economics" does not work. it has destroyed the middle class and all good paying jobs. so thanks 4 killing America
@MrGAB4444 Your troll attempt has failed, and if you're not a troll you belong back in your trailer park, waiting for the second coming, drinking your bud light, watching your NASCAR, and hating non-whites. I dropped out of school and I'm not a liberal I'm a libertarian,I know that is a big word, but use your dictionary to look it up(Hint: its that big book you probably beat your children with). Ignorance is indeed bliss for you.
@MrGAB4444 Liberals know the truth already. It is you conservatives who don't know shit. Children of conservatves are getting a theocratic based education and a history education from the tea nut Koch brother rallies. From your post. You are drunk on Koch-a Kola.
@MrGAB4444 Yeah I am a parrot of truth. I read the unbias campaign donor reports at opensecrets. I read the unbias CREW most corrupt list that lists democrats like Rangel and Landerieu as well as republicans like Mitch McConnell and Boehner. I read the voting records of the house and the senate. You watch Fox news, listen to limbaugh the Hutt or read World BS daily.
@MrGAB4444 What are you talking about? What is happening in Wisconsin is due to right wing conservative politics. These politicians do not care about the people as a whole. They are bought off by lobbyists representing cooperation.
Another totally biased report from D. Doherty. Only interviews w/ teachers and public school administrators who stand to lose their jobs. How 'bout interviewing some parents who are THRILLED about the expanded voucher pgm that allows them to send their kids where they want?
If true, the only valid complaint is that the private schools get to keep the money (1 semester) for kids kicked out.
Hey Doherty, why don't you find out what percentage that might be? Could be a red herring.
America fuck yeah! The little children will just have to wait until the Genocide is complete. And then they will be so stupid from a lack of education, they will no longer understand what Genocide means, and America can take over the World. But since our School system is so retarded anyway, this might actually be a good thing. America, fuck yeah! Saving the motherfucking day yeah!!
Public school system is a mess. We throw money at the system all the while SAT & ACT test scores continue to fall. Although parents play a part in this problem, the education system is a freakin joke.
Isn't it sad that even the parents of a drug addict loser in jail provided a more comprehensive education in sessions averaging less than an hour a week than twelve years of 30 hour weeks at taxpayer expense provided?
@blackacidlizzard yOU HAVE TO GO SCHOOL - IF YOU AND YOU TRASH FAMILY WANT TO MOVEOUT OF THE COUNTRY AND GO BACK TO WHERE YOU CAME FROM BE MY GUEST. WE WERE HERE FIRST - TAKE YOUR GREEDY MOTHERFUCKING ASS BACK OVERSEAS. THIS IS AMERICA AND WE TAKE CARE OF AMERICANS - GET YOUR ASS OUT
Oh, I forgot. When it's against whites, it's not racist. All whites are .greedy trashy klansmen, and this is just the truth - nothing racist about saying saying it.
@blackacidlizzard I learned all I needed to know by the 9th Grade to understand that every Grade after that was nothing bout Social Engineering and segregation of Students by "testing". Then I realized that the really smart kids were in the "dumb class", and there because they were bored, and rebelling against the indoctrination. My Mother being a Teacher didnt like that very much, as I sat there flipping off the system from the so called "loser class".
@rea1001 So to appease here, I did not study for my SAT, and came away with a score of 1530, and took another IQ test that I think is unintelligent, adn walked away from that with a score of 147. Dropped out of College 3 times, and then opened my own Business designing Web Sites before Web Sites were even popular. Ahh, yes, the found memories and "edumacathion".
i think the real problem is people constantly thinking about money, instead of education in general. thats really an overall thing. a focus on material problems , rather then looking at them conceptually.

So at the most teachers work 40-45hrs a week..............for 9 months a year. And speaking of curriculum changes, around saint louis the teachers union fights them.........it's to much for the teachers to deal with! Good teachers will make more money without unions.....bad teachers will find a new jobs.
stlB420 8 months ago

Take away education accessibility for the majority and only the minority will control the source of knowledge.

stlB420 8 months ago
I believe that it'd be better if schools were privatized BUT parents received an education tax credit that they could use towards paying for schools, books and supplies, etc.
Private schools aren't a bad thing if they're done properly. They have a higher standard of education, are more competitive, pays teachers well while eliminating the union and offer the parents choices.
What they're doing right here, though, is wrong. It won't benefit those children and won't make anything better.

We spend more money per student than any other country and get among the worst results in the developed world. They shouldn't make cuts, they should completely shut it down and rebuild it from the ground up without the discredited blank slate doctrine as the pillar of their pedagogical theory.
marcus3379 8 months ago
Interesting that the video never states that the number of childern are actually decreasing and therefore less teachers will be needed. Just becuase you have a budget of X this year, doesn't mean you need X + Y next year. It is called zero based budget reviews and it should be required for all federal and state budgets - you get what you need not what you want or got last year. This is the publics money.

to Captcrais101 - Private education almost always produced better students as evidenced by their higher attendance in college and better wages after high school. This result is irrespective of their socio-economic status. Question really is why are these unions demanding to consign their students to poorer educational standards and performance all to empower their union masters.

stlB420 8 months ago
@stlB420 No actually public school and public university. But I am smart enough to read the studies that have been produced. Why is it Anti-American to give parents a choice of where their child is educated? When did the students become the wards of the state? Give them a voucher and have them choose the best school for their child. If public schools are soooo much better than they will receive the lionshare of the students. Competition will produce better results for our childern.

SpencerMoseley 8 months ago
@SpencerMoseley Well the obvious flaw in your bullshit is right there "This result is irrespective of their socio-economic status.".
nilbud 8 months ago
@SpencerMoseley
