republican ,,R JUST too stupid,,they just wanna put obama down for some little crap,,,they r too jelaous that obama got most of the supporters with him,,the old guy McCain needs to rest,,his freaking old,,his about 73 yrs old already,,damnnnnnnnn itttttttt
We are trillions of dollars in debt and our dollar isn't worth crap. Somehow a flag pin doesn't mean much. Another why to neglect the real issues with our country.
I can't believe Americans are arguing about this... If he refuses to wear a flag pin, he isn't patriotic??? So all you need to do to be patriotic is wear a frikken pin???
I looked for a picture of ronald reagan wearing a flag pin and I couldn't find one, obviously reagan was not a patriot! See how stupid this whole issue is neocons!
Wow, a real journalist. I hope the other working journalists will take their cue from one of the respected old guard. Let's try a little less tabloid coverage, and a little more substance, fact checking, and reasoned response (and a little less barbecue sauce)
Hillary Clinton just said tonight (Tue, April 22nd) on Larry King Live, in response to an email that she was using negative ads when she started declining in polls, "Well, I'm not sure what the public thinks"...you need to seethe whole transcript, but suffice to say, she doesn't really care behind the scenes what the public thinks, but only what will get her elected. Barack Obama DOES care what the public thinks.
There comes a point in time when the American people are either going to shout- I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE, in regards to the falsification and bias of news, but till then we are left with ABC and FAUX news. pssssttt hey you, do something.
No! You would make the founding fathers sick. Founding fathers would have voted for Ron Paul, but since Ron Paul is out, they would be pragmatic enough to go for the next best choice: Obama.
Do you hear Hillary complaining and whining about Obama's success getting millions of donors supporting him with their vote and "money", to overcome the old elities party establishment. And Bill? do you see his inside boiling cause they are not getting the monetary support by million of americans? man it is lovely to see him loose sleep over it. Obama is owning the Clintons on how to run an succesfull enterprise the presidential campaign
Well Hillary just cant run a large enterprise efficiently
right on! instead of seeing thru the superficial bullshit, stupid dumbed-down people buy into the superficial bullshit...therefore the consolidated corporate media sells them more superficial bullshit!
And by the way, Jimbo, I've heard his answer on this question, probably the same answers you have, and there's a difference between giving an answer that satisfies the far left, and an answer that satisfies more than only that segment of society if he wants to lead all. It's no wonder he's getting branded as the most liberal U.S. Senator, which makes it difficult to win presidential elections.
Way to go! I think its time to start pointing out that the large majority of Americans DO NOT agree with the neocons, no matter how many times they claim to speak for average citizens. I especially like when they call a position "liberal extremism" but polls show 65% of the US supports it.
Patriotism is as complex as it is important - People who think that it is as simple as a magnet or a lapel pin have confused it with jingoism. As an Elvis fan once said "You don't need a velvet poster to love the music"
If Obama said something this eloquent and rational to America, instead of acting defensive when asked the question, I think the whole issue would be put to bed. It's because Obama gives such a lame answer that people keep wondering, "What's the big deal, why not just put one on?" I think some people are wondering if Obama's got some kind of rebelious message behind not wearing one, instead of something as harmless as Bill Shaefer's take on it. Obama should hire Shaefer as an advisor. ;)
Thanks Bob, I will miss you, enjoy your well deserved retirement!
The shame to me is that a good question did not get asked. Like what are the candidates plans to balance civil liberties vs post 9/11 concerns (or your favorite issue oriented question), any of these would have been harder to answer and more informative.
Maybe George S. can't get out of his past habit of being the Clinton's employee as their press secretary. The revolving door in DC should be locked!
I would like investing (whether bank savings, dividends, or capital gains) to be taxed progressively as a separate income stream. That way your taxes from investing are minimal until you earn enough from them to have it make a difference in your total income.
The way things are now, if you put $1000 in the bank all year, you make maybe $25. And that's normal income, so anywhere from $2.50 to $10 of it will be taxed away. That decimates compound interest and punishes people for saving!
Income from capital gains should be taxed at the same rate as income from working. Why should we discriminate between people who earn income from buying and selling stock pay a lower rate than those who work for a living? What do you have against working people?
At any rate, kudos to Bob for speaking the obvious!
Its wonderful how Obama has seperated himself from the misuse of the American flag as a pompom to push political agenda. A glaring flaw weve seen in the Bush administrations failed propoganda war. The American flag is a symbol of freedom and prosperity, NOT a PR tool to sway public opinion for political gain. Well done Barack!
Great vid. It's sad that our country has declined to a point where people complain about a lack of flag pins, high schoolers beat each other up to post the video, the media spends more time on Britney and Chelsea than on a war, and we actually debate the merits of torture. Just sad. Wake up, America, we're going down the drain.
No Mr. Scheiffer is a TRUE journalist who does not cowtow to the corporate media interests. I'll be watching more of "Face The Nation" from this point on.
Sigh. The fact that this is even a discussion in national politics makes me ill, but thanks Mr. Scheiffer for trying to smack from sense into the rest of the press corps.
Thank you, Mr. Schieffer! I believe you, Walter Cronkite, Tom Brokaw, and Dan Rather were and are the last vestiges of truly responsible journalism in this country.
At this point, the blogosphere will have to become the new battleground between responsible journalists and yellow journalists. Let the battle rage.
You got it right Bob! I'm so sick of the lapel pin nonsense. Wearing it or not does not define patriotism. It is also a double standard issue, because I see no one criticizing Hillary for not wearing one on her pant suit jacket.
don't forget Hitchens, another great journalist.

Wearing a plastic dollar-tree pin doesn't make you a patriot, improving the state of your country's condition is patriotism.
It's sad that a little plastic pin is more important to Republicans than the issues facing our country.

We cannot afford four more years of George Bush economics under John McCain.

Over a year ago now and they keep asking it.
Rosebud do you love America or not?
Questions asked this way are a attack, I am raising doubts about your character and disguising it as a question.
George Stephonopulus knew what he was doing when he asked the question to.
