This is a good trend. Nice smaller affordable homes. There is no need to owna mansion. Especially if its priced beyond reason. I have a house that is a little over 1400 Sq ft and thats a lot of house.

1400 sq. ft. is not small :) My girlfriend and I live happily in our 920 sq. ft. apartment and sometimes even consider it too large. Great video though and it's good to get the discussion rolling on houses like these.

The kitchen is way too small on this plan. Double the garage and you'll end up with a huge kitchen. Lessen the laundry and add a diagonal food pantry.... and you'll end up with a breakfast area. Also, the new trend in design is TWO master suites and it's totally 'do-able' with this plan.

This is not a criticism, but for me way too big. 9 by 5 metres will do me fine, and I'm questioning everything. How much stuff do I need? Washing machine? Why? Use a washboard and limit the amount of clothes I own. The pot in a pot system sounds like a good replacement for a fridge. In other words how much do I really need? If I have to work a little bit more at housekeeping, well it might do me good!

granted this is small, however not many American's actually live in something quite that small.....however, if you could design in built in appliances, beds, tables & the like, this size home would work for anyone!
