  • You're rich going to Halfords :P

  • Merci see you

  • if you unscrew the oil filler cap before you drain the oil the oil flows out faster, and when the oil is draining why not go for a cup of tea so more old oil flows out?

  • really helpful-even a new tip or two when doing the simplest of jobs helps you no end. Love You Tube for this sort of stuff. Will say though - stick Halfrauds. My local dealer charged me £18 for each of my 5 litres of their 5w 30 oil. Filter was a genuine Ford one of Fleabay for a fiver. Shopping around afterwards on ebay I found a dealer doing a 5ltr + 1ltr oil pack for about £28 delivered.

Its always worth a quick look on ebay / local dealer's website before a trip to Halfrauds.

  • M8 halfords parts aren't as good as ford ones ford o es last much longer but other wise good video

  • Cheers mate!!! Good MONEY saving video

  • Mate cheers for this, serviced my Mondeo, from this video, no problems. Many Thanks

  • When i drain the oil on my car i hold the plastic carton to the sump to stop the oil pissing allover then slowly lower it down. this particular diesel lump in the Mk3 Mondeo are bloody awful. they clunk and clatter and really noisey. I worked on one at a ford garage for my work experience and it had only done 112k and it needed 4 new injectors and ran like a dog. £105 each for the injectors! :O

  • im doing the servicing myself for the mondeo when the car hit 50.000 miles. its now at 70.000 miles and i've only changed the air filter. but now recently the car smells like diesel when i drive? i'm gonna change the oil soon. but what should i look for that could cause the smells, should i change the fuel filter? have you ever changed it on yours perhaps?

  • magic fly by space, wot a soundtrack buddy!

  • Nice vid

  • Thanks mate for taking the time to do the video, really helpful as just brought my TDCI so will be doing this every 6 months :)

  • Thanks, mate - my bro bought me a K & N filter for my birthday and I'd got no idea where to stick it. Job's a good 'un!

  • Excellant video, just bought a new oil filter for my Focus 2ltr tdci and wondered what sort of a job it was to change, its like yours so it looks easy to change. Thanks for the heads up on it.

  • Thanks for the video just bought a 2005 Mk 3 TDI will it be the same? Really appreciate your videos, tips and comments Cheers Glyn

  • Thanks! Just what I need, doing this tomorrow

  • cheers man just serviced my car worked a treat and saved me a few bob

  • Quality stuff....thanks for posting

  • Can i just suggest something for next time you empty the oil.............just hold the drain plug over the hole at an angle to control the flow and also use a funnel. did what you did once when my funnel went missing and what a mess that made. got the same pot as you and i just think the hole they got on the side when you lay it down is just that little bit too small to allow the flow of oil quick enough.

    nice vid tho mate.

  • Your video is 10 minutes long (allowing for edits) so it probably took you half an hour max? So why do garages charge so much for jobs like this? Great video, funny but very informative. How about a brake pad changing tutorial? Also what about a fuel filter change? My Mondeo (same model and year as yours) has a warm starting issue, cured after a major service. Re-occurred after 5-6 months though. The only thing could be the fuel filter but it sounds complicated to change.

  • Crackin vid m8, just what I needed. Just bought a mk 3 and probably wouldn't have even recognised the oil filter.

On my mk 2 I had to remove the O/S wheel to change the filter. This looks much better to work with. Nice Halfords prices too! I'm almost looking forward to it :)

  • Thats a useful video! Cuz I needed to find out of the filter socket size for a xtype 2.2d!

  • the oil filter housing should be tightened 25nm, or as i say tighten it hand tight then nip it up a little. i found you should run the engine for a few mins and turn it off and recheck the oil to make sure its at the correct level which you did :)

  • Good video , off to halfords i reckon to give my Mondeo a mini service, thanks again

  • Spark plugs need replcing... NGK

  • @kamransaeed1587 It's a diesel, they don't have spark plugs!

  • @5uperfly55 AHhh rite

  • I'll tell you what's jobs a good un...this video. Cracking stuff mate. Thanks to your video I've now got the nerve to put an aftermarket air filter in myself. Going to put a K&N in cos realistically I'll never have to replace the filter again for the life of the car. One question though. Is the Halfords oil really as good as the branded variety? Sorry if that makes me sound daft but I'm a better judge of generic electronic goods than generic car products!!

  • @wildfire1978 Thanks mate! As far as I am aware, most of the oil comes from the same source and is just re-branded.

  • you are funny man and you`ve done it with just one hand as you held camera in the other.well done mate good job

  • @jozefchrenko Cheers!

  • Maybe you should pour some oil straight to the oil filter. Engine runs little less without oil pressure

  • @Tsiikki The filter housing has a drain hole that allows the filter to drain when unscrewed by a couple of turns. It is not possible to fill the filter before installing it.

  • Just to confirm the oil filter is the same for petrol version (1.8 zetec)

  • go to fast parts, its were ford get its parts from!

  • Good camera work! It must have been difficult to work and shoot at the same time.

Can one just make a critique. When you took the air filter out, you then blew into the air box! If there is any debris in the base of the box, you will just blow it straight into the engine!. Just get out the leaves etc (just as you did) then wipe it with a damp cloth, or vacuum it.

Overall a good video, and funny commentary

  • @raynkar Thanks for that mate, yep you're right, bit of a schoolboy error that one.

  • Is this the same for a 1.8 zetec petrol??

  • Never serviced the petrol version but for sure the oil will be a different grade so the filter may also be different, not too sure about the air filter either.... sorry!

  • Thanks for the info CyberShrek, I'll look out for it next time

  • There's usually a drain plug in the oil filter housing - a small bolt in the middle of the hex part you unscrewed it by - that allows you to drain the filter housing without it pissing up yer sleeve! ;-)

Every TDCi I've done has had this caked in crap, though, so they're not easy to spot. I only spotted the first one AFTER I'd taken the housing off and cleaned it up!

    Good informative video! :)

  • @CyberShrek Just done another oil and filter change. The filter housing doesn't have a drain plug.

  • Great video!!!

  • that was good. well explained,

one little thing though if you have the car jacked up at the front only, it will not read correctly on the dipstick.

    5*

  • You are correct, thats is why the level is re-checked after lowering the car and running the engine.

    Cheers
