This is definitely one of my most favourite Roger's songs.. Scacely ever do I hear it without it sending chills down my spine or bringing tears to my eyes. It's simply incredible - lyrically and vocally. Roger you are a pure genius! :)
I appreciate the work of both Waters and Gilmour. Both brought to Pink Floyd amazing songwriting and musical talent. We would not have Dark Side of the Moon without the both of them.
The final cut did not sell that many copies compared to the wall. It was thought that Waters had lost his touch, when in fact the band had already fallen apart. The waters taking over nonsense is crap. Hell Waters was the original member not Gilmore. Besides Waters wrote 90 % of everything from la valle times.
does anybody here not realize this was in some ways an auto-biography of roger waters and the loss of his father in ww2, i read this in a self written book about roger and his life in pink floyd. the reason you here of the wall being a lead up to this album, is because they were based on the same topic in the begining till waters went crazy in montreal. and the name "the final cut" was because it was to be floyds last album.
wow talk about un`educated and not even knowing it, whiterider shold take a sitdown ond his daddys dick oh wait that happens saturday night during wraslen dosn`t it you dumb prick READ A BOOK
I understand where you are coming from, however, jsandy8 is correct. Without African American Cotton Field based Blues derived from African Tribal chants, there would be no "Pink Floyd" as anyone knows it. Floyd Council and Pink Anderson are Blues fans, who's music can be traced back to Africa through the Blues they produced.
Ive owned every album made by PF and Rogers solo work and this is by far my favorite of PF's. I didnt read all the comments but if you like the final cut I highly recommend the Pros and cons of hitchhiking. Its a little bit of a different sound for him but I liked it a lot. Sound quality was a little rough on this clip. Very happy to see so much of Rogers stuff on youtube. Get my fix all in one place.
182 lebanon, israeli invasion. black outs bombs falling all over, it was me and the Final cut, i listened to it like hundreds of times, love that album
Apparently not. I just read a huge bio on the band. In fact, he was the furthest thing from a friendly guy. However, he was the ideas man. He was the one who wrote the majority of the lyrics, and had the ideas behind the pigs, planes, and amazing light shows. Kind or not, he is a creative genius! Hands down.
well, I dont think that it's easy to describe a song because everyone has a different opinion. I mean someone might like one song that one other might hate but I don't think that anyone can disagree but the final cut is one of these songs that when you here them you.. feel strange.
I concur that this is one of the most magnificent pieces of work every made. The Final Cut as an album - from the lyrics
"Kids committing Suicide" - "The Blade in Trembling hands" - to "The Human Race is Run" Simply a magnificent illustration of life in war time and what we can, and should, do to avoid it. But not NOW John . . . Southampton Dock is very moving for me as well. Thanks for Existing Roger.
Roger deserves a Pulitzer for his lyrical genius. Any "Floyd Fan" needs to sit down and listen to this album and absorb the sheer brilliance of The Final Cut... and get off the "DSOTM" bandwagon. Gah, I cannot even speak the wonders of this man. Roger Waters is pure and simply amazing.
@pinksdaze It's just too bad his ego at the time ruined the band. Imagine the music they could have put out if he didn't screw it all up. Gilmour saved Floyd
Most under-rated album of all time-right here ladies and gentlemen. The lyrics are sharp and precise, and the music as well. Floyd brought back the saxophone that fans had likely missed during the Wall.(also a brilliant album) I'd recomend this cd to anyone who is artistic, and doesn't have attention defecit disorder like 95% of my generation has!

places, racism hidden in flag waving Patriotism.
Maybe the reff to the I.R.A in the lyrics "and maniacs dont blow holes in bandmans by remote control"the Gunners dream made it all a little to real for you!
The Final Cut is the best Floyd cd/album brilliantly political & the reason Waters realised he was the voice/spokesman/lyrical genius and that the others where simply mere hold backs listen to Radio KAOS esp"the tide is turning" it could easily be mistaken for a Floyd c/d cos Waters was Pink Floyd's attitude an political ambassador.
Simply put the rest where expendable but no Waters = no Floyd,
If you want soft comfortable music go listen to pompeii The Final Cut must be to Cutting for you.
Rogers wrote it though, he wrote the bassline and guitar part and had the idea of the money and keys in the metal bowl at the beginning, and he wrote the lyrics while in school.
i dunno know about him writing it in school but he did write the lyrics while he was with pink floyd but just because he wrote the lyics doesent mean its his song because all the other members also put their inputs into the song mostly gilmour with that really long solo
I am torn because I love both Gilmour and Waters, but where Gilmour moves me in a transcendant way, Waters moves in an emotional way. I would love for them to get together and collaborate on something. I think the universe would implode on itself if they did.
The north and south pole would colapse into each other and pigs would not fly, but be tossed into space, which is actually the next best thing. My eyes would retreat from their sockets and come out of my mouth though.
Agreed, my friend! A lot of people look at this like a bad album.. What the hell!? It's a masterpiece, and one of the greatest art rock albums I've ever heard!
Yes it is. Maybe its because this album is not as radio friendly as the wall. Judging by their major hits, it seems like Gilmour has to sing in order that they sell records. Surprisingly, Not Now John is still never played.
The Wall's friggin overrated. Both are an emotional journey, but The Wall is more focused upon because of its mainstream, catchy, rockish sound on the hits such as Another Brick Part 2 and Young Lust, and The Final Cut is also softer, and more materialistic in a sense that it's actually a story and not a state of mind, and people have to accept that sometimes one's journey through life can be as or more interesting as a journey through one's mind.
umm NO! pink the final cut was pink floyds last album. The where having emtional issues so the band broke up. Sid Barret didn't "flip out" he ODed on acid and had drug and phycological(skitzophrenia) problems, so they kicked him out of the band.
The album was the last of the Floyd greats then Floyd got really crappy because Gilmore was more interested in his helicopters etc. I always thought that Roger was the leader of PF...actually Sid was before he flipped out...anyone ever read that book on Sid Barrett, Lost In The Woods? Really depressing...
Is stupid to choose a camp, a Gilmour Camp or a Waters camp. Is sad know how the personal visions of one man could destroy one of the bests bands in the world
In my opinion The Final Cut is a really great album - a Masterpiece... I think it's worth calling like that. /// But the vid is of a really terrible quality. At least you could have put better sound on it.
This album has touched the very fabric of my being.... I cannot see how anyone could not be moved by this album! If you doubt it, give it another chance!
I don't know why people fights here! I listen to Pink Floyd more than 30 years and this album "Final Cut" is nice and holds a lot messages, under messages...
Bla bla bla bla...there's nothing really wrong with this album considering much of it was to be included on The Wall... nobody stole fuck all...put the disc on, shut your eyes and mouth and let the music do the talking....
They were a great band. They made wonderful music, with lyrics that expressed our hopes, fears and foibles, and melodies that we still hum 30 years later. Their difficulties as a group were no different from our own. Soon they will all be dead. Enjoy now.
Gilmour is the one who brought the Floyd mainstream from total obscurity. Although Waters is a great lyricist, it is Gilmour's harmonies that allow the music to stand on its own. Waters was a meglomaniac who constantly berated his fellow musicians until they thought they were worthless. Gilmour is the one who had the nads to stand up to him and say, "Screw you, Rog!"
Why do people still fight about Pink Floyd? They've reconciled so stop the bitching. Roger Waters and David Gilmour were co depndant. Waters relied on Gilmour's technicality in the music department. Waters did write most of the songs yes, but dave played them and made them what they are.Gilmour and rest of band relied on Roger to come up with concepts like DSOM and The Wall.Put it all together and you have the legend that is Pink Floyd. The Final Cut is a good album in my view
The Final Cut album had to be the suckiest Floyd album ever made. Although artful, the music is weak. This was a Waters dominated album, and without the influence of Gilmour's harmonies, this album absolutely REEKED! I'm still pissed that I wasted my money buying this turd when it first came out.
Dave is NOT Pink Floyd. Dave "Stole" the name Pink Floyd. Syd and Roger grew up together and Roger has every right to carry on. Considering Roger made sure Syd would have enough money for the rest of his life. Dave was invited into the band years! after Syd and Roger. If you look at the albums it say "lyrics and music by Roger Waters NOT Dave
What happened to Syd was Syd, Waters was always gonna be a force in his own right, no way was Syd gonna make such massive concept albums and keep it together for 40 years
No doubt. In some ways, I admire Waters and his voice is completely shot. I stopped listening to PF after Atom Heart Mother until recently. I had no stomach for what happened to Syd Barrett. Still don't. I don't like how Waters climbed on those frail shoulders. I was twenty one when Dark Side came out and I was repulsed by it. It is very hard to reconcile that one can become "genius" on the back of another by sucking up. If that is genius, then, Waters is quite the acrobat.
I have to take some issue with vslabsza. I mean I agree that you could argue that overall the Final Cut is better than the Wall (after "Run Like Hell" the album could be seen as falling off); but, however, both are far superior to Amused to Death. I mean Waters has no voice left, and although there are some strong songs on that album, it's nothing compared to his earlier stuff. Anyhow this song is great to say the least.
Whether it's "Radio KAOS", "Amused To Death" or "The Final Cut" Roger Water has created music for the next 2000 years. It's not everybody's heart and soul that can feel his music. It's something divine and special.
theres a kid who had i big halucination making love to girls in magazines he wonders if your sleeping with your new found faith could anybody love you or is it just a crazy dream (fucking most perfectly excellent) would you sell your story to the rolling stone? would you take the children away and leave me alone? would smile in reasurance as i whisper down the phone...............

Waters is no genius I like the songs off this album although the political message sucks. Division bell has no waters and is a much better album.

Great song - sucks that the audio is off synch

Yes, this song is one of the floy's finest work, from the beginning to that excellent end.

My favourite Pink Floyd song... Incredibly moving. Does anyone know who the woman at 3:49 is? She seems so tragic and dignified...

This is a good song but what does the crappy video have to do with it?
Lumotaku 5 years ago
you apparently don't understand the song, sweetie.

Final Cut.. in many ways an album I think that is superior to The Wall. Maybe even as good as Amused To Death.
Roger at his very best...
