That's because they added the cut-scenes in the PS1 and Nintendo DS remakes of the game. It adds a little bit of excitement to it, but it can still go without them.

Remember this game came out almost 20 years ago now. The graphics and sprite work wasn't quite as great as they are now. Still for that time it is still looks impressive.

@Ygdrasel The Playstation Remake has ridiculous loading times, from what I've heard. The DS version has all the extra stuff, plus some extra content of its own, without the load times; it's generally considered the superior version (even if you don't want the extra content, nothing from the original game was changed from what I can tell).

Plus, look where it's actually coming off of her: her shoulder (see 0:14-0:17). Pretty odd place for a tail, if it was actually hers.

@marmar3291 No, the DS version of the game has the option to include animated cut scenes into the game. After they play, the game version also shows right after, so you get to see both sprites and anime version.
