  • I really want the song they are singing. Is there any version of it someone has found? It's so hauntingly lovely.

  • they're ascending <3

  • The melody of the dwarf song in the "The Hobbit" trailer kinda reminds me of this song... Just the melody though.

  • I camed here because of SKYRIM

  • by far one of the best scenes in the film, the blue filter makes it look brilliant

  • Where can I download this song? I have a majority of the OSTs but I desperately want this song...does anyone know any similar music btw? I love these beautiful elvish hymns...especially the beginning of The House of Healing. :)

  • @eleneressea try some medieval baebes on? they do a lot of a capella choral. or, you might like Sleeping Dogs Wake's "Swan Song." as for this particularly... well, it's hard to find choirs singing in Sindarin here lately.

  • This ladies and gents, is why you buy the extended version.

  • Fanuilos heryn aglar Rîn athar annún-aearath, Calad ammen i reniar Mi ‘aladhremmin ennorath! A Elbereth Gilthoniel I chîn a thûl lin míriel Fanuilos le linnathon Ne ndor haer thar i aearon. A Elbereth Gilthoniel Men echenim sí derthiel Ne chaered hen nu ‘aladhath Ngilith or annún-aearath.
  • I liked this scene. It should have been included.

  • We love that the one elve that speaks to Liv Tyler is none other than Brett from Flight of The Conchords! ;) the one who says ma'lady we can not delay :) look it up, its true <3

  • O Queen beyond the western seas.

  • Everywhere I lie there's a dirty great root sticking into my back.

    LOL

  • A Elbereth Gilthoniel

  • @feedar Silvren Penna Miriel

  • @kirkman667 O Menel Aglar Elenath

  • @feedar O Elbereth Starkindler...

  • Once you read the books the movies aren't that great...

  • @SRone45 Dude,i have read the books many times and i have seen the movie alot. I still think that they books and movies are GREAT <3

  • @mynta96 Peter Jackson changed too much.

  • @SRone45 People always change stuff when they´re doing a movie :/ But hey, it could have been worse ;)

  • I think I saw Anderson Cooper.

  • I bid the, return to us, O mightiest, wises, and fairest of creatures, so that you may guide us once more, for look what we have become. . . without it.

  • "They are leaving Middle Earth, never to return"

  • So, so beautiful. What I wouldn't give to be among a group of people, singing in that sensual tone in another language while walking through the forest at twilight. Makes me misty-eyed just thinking about it.

  • @Guigley Actually you can, there is a online mmorpg , the Lord of the Rings Online (LOTRO), its basd on the books and the developers have built the word of Middle-earth and the characters, the immersion is great

Visit LOTRO.com to join and its for free as well, its an awsome mmo,the best i would say

  • @TheLOTROnline cough cough advertising much...

  • Honestly, would it have been SO hard to say 'High Elves'? The chances of the Elves from Mirkwood departing to Valinor are pretty slim.

  • It's too bad this wasn't in the film, because it's in the book (they spend some time with the elves though) and the song they sing is from the book as well :) Hardcore fans would have noticed and gotten VERY excited.

  • @EVN12383 its called "pipe weed" :D its a tabacco of sorts

  • My best scene is the from the 3rd one in the spider scene it was so cool

  • the extended edition of lord of the rings isnt too expensive it has all these scenes in it :D. I love this scene

  • "i dont know why, it makes me sad"

Makes me sad when i look outside my window, i want to see hills and mountains, dense forests, horses instead of cars, a beautiful world like middle earth...

  • @999duhast you just said what i was thinking when i watched this

  • @legendarygunslinger :-) this is my favourite scene in the entire movie

  • Little did Frodo know that he too would pass from the Grey Havens.

  • They are sailing, sailing, sailing over the sea; they are going into the West, and leaving us.

  • Tolkien is the greatest writer in the world. All of his books are so magickal and well written, that no one can re-create them.

"It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door; you step on the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no telling where you'll be swept off to."

  • tolkien is one of the best fantasy writers in this world still today, to create his own languages, story, world, pure genuis

  • @Chameleon4211 He spent 40 years of his life on the series.

  • the very next scene is the best too xD

"Everywhere I lie, there's a dirty great root sticking into my back"-Sam

  • Best scene in the movie. It makes me so sad that they deleted it from some versions I mean come on it's a short scene I have a version of the film with it and it's like 2 minutes maximum they totally should have kept it blush it is in the book, in "The Fellowship" as well as in other Tolkien works of course. Thanks so much for posting. I love that the grey elf legolas considered himself a wood elf too being raised among them and such too.

  • This Scene is so beautiful. I mean it's so perfectly executed. I think I actually started crying when the dialogue started. It felt like I was missing apart of myself when they were talking about leaving middle earth.

  • I can't find this song that plays in the background. Im sure It was on youtube a while ago, but it has vanished. Help anyone ? Plzzzzz

  • @MrWielkiM

  • @MrWielkiM

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring CR - 10. The Passing of the Elves

Hope this is going to help you! :)

  • It's a power's song !

  • This scene stays beautifull

  • @tzepesh20 This is all in the Silmarillion, isn't it? I have tried to read it...really tried, but I get lost in the *who begat who begat who* chapters that seem to go on forever. I do, however, study the Encyclopedia of Arda fro time to time, which is as comprehensive a breakdown of Tolkien's universe as there is.

  • I get chills every time with this scene

  • @GHEEF22 UGH ME TOO

  • @BeatlesZeppelinFloyd can't be helped, i guess :P

  • they're leaving Middle Earth...never to return :(

    it also makes me sad

  • this scene isn´t deleted...

  • @simon5851 it is

  • my precious....

  • How calming...

  • Elves are paralells of angels, i think. I don't know about you, but i hope they'll be there when i die, in heaven

  • One of the most beautiful scenes!! Oh please elves come back!! T_T Fanuilos heryn aglar Rîn athar annún-aearath, Calad ammen i reniar Mi ‘aladhremmin ennorath! A Elbereth Gilthoniel I chîn a thûl lin míriel Fanuilos le linnathon Ne ndor haer thar i aearon. A Elbereth Gilthoniel Men echenim sí derthiel Ne chaered hen nu ‘aladhath Ngilith or annún-aearath...
  • Why would they delete it....?

  • That's one of the most beautiful scenes in the first film.

  • it's not a deleted scene

  • Love this part a lot in the film! The song is wonderful, and it looks like three people really didn't want the elves to leave haha

  • Sam and Frodo are obviously baked off thier tits on whatever they were a smoking ;P

  • The song the elves sing is hauntingly beautiful. I love it.

  • I believe in Mythical creatures like elves, earth is trully wonderfull and mysterious. And i wanna see them someday.....

  • @noctisGIRL So do I...I believe they would be living in nature...I visited a place that I felt a presence of elves there..later a friend of mine confirmed it and knew a bit about em..I was excited..visiting a place where elves were..:D

  • Why on earth did they delete this scene? It's so beautiful and so settling.

  • damn i miss middle earth

  • we have the entire extended edition. It takes forever to watch all of it, but it is much better than the regular 3 hour movie.

  • In my opinion:

One of the best songs in LOTR I...

CAN I GET A LONG VERSION!?!??!!!

  • I wish they hadn't left this out of the theatrical release of the movies... It's one of the most wonderful moments in the book!

  • THAT'S THE ELBERETH GILTHONIEL SONG!

  • I hear that they're looking at different actors to play Bilbo in 'The Hobbit' and Daniel Radcliff was one of them. I think that he would be the best choice since he looks like Ian Holms and Elijah.

  • @MiyahSummer If he plays bilbo...I will not see it :[

  • @LivXForXArtX Like I said, I do not know if he will play that role. They haven't started production yet and this is still up in the air.

  • @LivXForXArtX It's Martin Freeman, who are going to be the hobbit.

And Ian is back as Gandalf. Del Toro leaved the work, now Peter J. is the director.

  • I am also seeing wood elves after smoking from a pipe.

  • Ever notice that Frodo sounds like a girl?!

  • It's not a deleted scene, i saw it :o

  • @xSakuraKurox Deleted scene doesnt really mean deleted, it did not feature in the original movie, however it is in the extended edition, this is where you have seen it, as i have ^^

  • @xSakuraKurox It's a deleted scene unless u have the Extended version of the movie *has all three*

  • uuuuum maybe cuz they're "LEAVING NEVER TO RETURN" jeez sam

  • @wolvesruleohyay he realizes. He just wonders why that knowledge would grieve him. He doesn't know the elves.

  • I wish this song was in the soundtrack, or at least buyable. It's so pretty...

  • for a human being to be able to create a world like this and for a team of people to put his vision into such a great visual and audible experience is beyond words. THIS is what I like about people. Their ability to create masterpieces out of this world.

  • @kristicuk Are you sure that there was no help from elves? :D

  • Elves have left us because their time had ended ...but...they left us to our fate? they let us stand alone?

  • Dunno why they feel that they need to leave, even after Sauron was defeated.

They feel they're too good to be around men, dwarves and hobbits alike? those pricks! XD

  • Excellent song, but these are High Elves, not Wood Elves >.< I have no idea why PJ changed that...

  • @ambereyes93 ...eeeh, High elves are Noldor mainly, who came from Araman and who had seen the light of the trees, and almost exterminated in Nirnaeht Arnoediad, Noldors have a black hair, like a craven feathers, and this elves are grey blond mainly, Telerin, one or two maybe Noldor descendant, but not Noldor itself...the language they spoke and they were singing was a Noldorin heritage from ancient times, but probably all this elves was a wood elves, like Frodo said

  • @hunnol O.O

  • maybe i'm the only one who thinks this, but in every scene while they're in the forest leading up to rivendell theres always birdcalls and such. maybe its all the rangers talking to each other lol.

  • Any elf that dies is spiritually sent to the Halls of Mandos. Feanor, for example, will be imprisoned there until the breaking of Arda and the destruction of Morgoth. I would assume that the Exiles that died were sent to Mandos and, if their deeds were too vile for the Valar to forgive, were given the same punishment of spiritual imprisonment. Those that were forgiven were probably given new bodies and allowed to return to Valinor.

  • Ive lost all my lotr nerdiness and therefore do this

HA. you lowlife insane lotr fans

  • @GeorgeZeaiter ...you lost your faith...and lost your hope...

  • @hunnol how am i meant to sleep at night...knowing i'm not spiritually one with middle earth? what is the path to redemption wise one???

  • @GeorgeZeaiter ...heheheh, man, be cool, my words just that, words, words of a fan of this kind of literature, so do not take it so serious, youtube and the whole internet is just for fun, many people fight and insult for something that should be fun, dont be like this, if your lost your faith or your hope or your juke box money is not my bussines, you can sleep at night as you want without ask to nobody what is the path of nothing, this media is for fun only, thats all, be cool, keep walking

  • @NoogahOogah And there are those who believe the bible is a load of hocus pocus too. If Tolkien had written LOTR 2,000 years ago we could all be believing it's as true as the bible. Afterall, there's no proving or disproving the contents of either 'works'.

  • @TraffordReds9 There's a fine difference. The Bible is not actually one book, but a collection of 66 individual books authored by many people over hundreds of years, all miraculously in sync with each other about the same God, and the same themes. Also, the Bible has also accurately mentioned history before archaeology proved it so. Also, Homers Iliad was written over 2,000 years ago, and everyone knows it's fiction.

  • @NoogahOogah I don't really want to start a religious debate here, but I would disagree with much of what you said there, which I suppose is what's so wonderful about having freedom of belief.

  • @GeorgeZeaiter So you're fickle and devolved to watching Glee. Congrats.

  • This scene conveys a kind of purity that seems forbidden for humans to understand...

  • What part of the movie was this scene supposed to take place?

  • @artmonkey24 Just after Frodo and Sam left for Bree, just before they have their little run-in with Merry and Pippin in Farmer Maggot's crop hehe

  • @shyguy778 Thanks :)

And I totally agree with your other comment

  • This is not Wood elves but High elves -> Noldor

  • @4ewerChelsea Incorrect. The Noldorim where cursed for their disobedience to the Valar and the Kinslaying. They killed their fellow elves in Aman and stole their ships to reach Middle Earth and recover the Silmarillion, which wre stolen by Sauron's master, Morgoth. This heinous murder on the Deathless Lands (Valinor), and the Oath of Feanor cursed the Noldorim and brought their Doom. They where to be banned from Valinor, as cursed spirits. Only Galadriel was spared.

  • @Adnachiel2

...well, not quite. The Ban was lifted after the War of Wrath. But so many of the Noldorim were dead already that it doesn't make too much of a difference. XP

  • @Aaibtd As I understand it-the Ban was lifted after Morgoth was banished from Ea to the Void, and his evil minions crushed (save Sauron who was supposed to face judgment but fled to Middle Earth). I am uncertain because the source I used (Complete Guide to Middle Earth) did not state explicitly whether the Noldorim who perished where permitted back to Aman. All that I can do is say maybe the Valar took pity on the Exiles, and permitted their souls to rest. Or damned the Noldor to the Void. Grim.

  • i love this scene but yes the dialogue is kinda...well shit.

  • yeh I cant compete with all your lore and shit, but by god this gives me shivers

  • one of my favourite scenes. Eerie, ethereal.

  • no the high elves originally was the Vanyar together teleri and Noldor

  • High elves, spoke Quenya (Noldor), right?

  • @camih001

    Yes.

  • @camih001 By the time of The War of the Ring, Quenya was used for ceremonial as opposed to 'everyday' occasions. A bit like Sanskrit is to Hindi.

  • Me too Sam, me too..

  • This scene is in the extended version of the Fellowship of the Ring. The title of it is, "A Elbereth Gilthoniel," although it won't be easy to find this version on any music generator you use. They released a soundtrack done by Howard Shore and other composers with this track on it, although it is beautiful, does not compare to this version.

  • why did they have to erase this scene???

  • @deathknight246810 they didn't it's in the extended version

  • 0:47

    agreed

  • But this elfs are not wood elfs, they are high elfs; Noldor.

  • @onurgurleyen , true...

  • I just watched this scene for the first time in awhile last night and it actually brought a tear to my eye. theres something so alien and beautiful about the song.

  • @MythicDude

The High Elves, the Noldor, returned from Valinor to recover Feanor's Silmarils that Morgoth, Sauron's master, stole. So as the people of the stars sail westward home, they cross the paths of those traveling eastward on their quest.

  • my god i'm seeking this track since YEARS!!!

where the hell could I find it?!?!?!?

    i LOVE IT!

    pls somebody help me!!!

    :°°°(

  • @virgola84

This track is called "The Passing of the Elves". It's copyrighted though...

  • You need to improve your english first. That made no sense.

  • its in the lord of the rings, the fellowship of the ring extended edition. i was able to find it in my local virgin megastores. :-)

  • where can i find this beutifall song?? who sing this?

  • Its beuatifull.. I ever have seen a woman in a forest, she weard a long whit dress whit a monks had. She sings something to. Idk what but it was pritty coowl

  • Mellonamin,

The presence of these beautiful creatures is still felt today, even though it is long since the age of humankind began and the elves left us.

    Namarie Aredhelrim

  • Regarding the haunting feeling of authentity in Tolkiens mythology; Remember the words of Lady Galadriel:

"We must depart into the West, or dwindle to a rustic folk of dell and cave, slowly to forget and to be forgotten" (from the chapter The Mirror of Galadriel).

And the words of Master Elrond:

"Our spring and our summer are gone by, and they will never be seen on earth again save in memory".

The lore of Tolkien is a religion.

  • those quotes are sad

  • @RatStravaganza okaaaay... what makes you this high?

  • @RatStravaganza

It is true, we can still feel their presence. I hope they return soon, we need them.

  • @RatStravaganza Elves don't, and never did exist.

  • @NoogahOogah But that doesn't make them any less beautiful in stories, movies, and songs

  • @iverie Well, no. I am fond of them myself, but it is rather silly to go about saying that they do or did exist at one point. they didn't, they don't, and they never will. To say that they are/will/have been is foolish.

  • @NoogahOogah oh, for fuck's sake. go ask your mother about 'willing suspension of disbelief,' and see if maybe you can get a handle on it with a little contemplation.

and as far as foolish goes, stating the obvious about a fictional race on the internet to inflate your appearance of intellectuality is about as foolish a thing as i've seen in a while, so maybe you don't want to go stowing thrones, dipshit, since you live in a grass house and all.

  • Chill buddy. I can suspend my disbelief plenty. I love elves, I love Tolkien, I love Hobbits, etc. Fact is, someone was lamenting about how elves used to be here and how now they are not. It's just as silly to act like elves do/did exist as it is to berate people about how they don't. They are fantastical creatures created to enjoyed and fantasized about, not to be thought of as actual creatures, nor to be hated for their nonexistence.

  • @RatStravaganza Well said, gwathel-nîn

  • @RatStravaganza

??? Elves did not and do not exist.

  • @glitch509

Right, but if they did, it would be totally awesome.

  • @sartanko

Well, i think they should be more manly than just artsy-fartsy.

  • @glitch509

Bah, if they were they would be just like humans and that would be pointless

  • For those hard-core Tolkien fans out there, make sure to google for Dr. Lance Owens and Stephen Hoellers "Tolkien gnosis"-lectures.

You will be shocked to learn that Tolkien didnt invent his mythology, but it came to him, like in a vision.

  • Did a brief checkup of where Tolkien spent most of his life to be sure, so I could type this without shooting myself in the foot; believe it or not, the island of Britain is one of planet Earth's spiritual epicenters. Mystics believe the earth has a "soul," or spiritual energy within it, said spiritual energy flows most strongly in places near or on faultlines.

  • The island of Britain, is one of the best places on earth for meditation, because of its strong flow of spiritual energy. Creative people ESPECIALLY benefit from that flow. If Britain has been a creative hotspot, is the British people's peculiar good fortune. Japan, is also a place where there is a strong flow of spiritual energy. However, ultimately, the human mind and soul in question has to actively seek it, even with a strong spiritual flow, a soul can still be cut off from it.

  • and by the person's own will no less; an individual may live in a place like Israel for example, another strong spiritual epicenter, for their entire life, and never grow. Tolkien was a devout Catholic, ever obsessively hunting for spiritual things; because it was his good fortune that he was British, he benefited from the island's strong spiritual properties. On a darker note, that is why Britain is also more prone to hauntings.

  • Oh I believe you dude; when I was really little I dreamed of these creatures (Hobbits). Didn't know what they were until I watched these movies.

  • Imagine ancient Europe, thousands and thousands of years ago back in a forgotten age.

Who knows, maybe our distant forbears encountered Elves? Perhaps the Elves in the ancient Germanic and Celtic mythology actually are dim memories of the First Born who dwelt here before our ancestors came?

  • if they were once here, the fact that the no longer exist is worrysome; in Greek mythology, there were creatures more or less akin to elves, who gradually left, as humanity decayed into more and more spiritual corruption. Samwise has a reason to feel sad; for "sacred" beings like the Elves wishing to leave, is not a good sign for whatever world you live in.

  • That would be awesome!

  • Comment removed

  • I meant, respect for the sacred. If I did not make that correction people will take that earlier comment the wrong way.

  • Comment removed

  • I'll only listen to priests, Rabbis, and Imams, when they start glowing like those wood elves.

Unless you glow ethereally like that at night sorry, I don't recognize your religious authority.

lol. I love mocking the Abrahamic faiths, well, at least as they exist today.... corrupted.

  • what is the genre (music)

  • Comment removed

  • well Tolkien actually changed the elves, I'm not too sure but I beleive that the norse beleived them to be very small and to take refuge among the flowers. And the Anglo Saxon's beleived elved to be evil creatures who ripped out your heart.

  • I know(I'm swedish :D), that's why I thanked you. Many people don't know about norse mythology.

  • Thankyou for not saying Tolkien "created" them :)

  • If I was in Lotr, I would be an Elf. They are the coolest!

  • where in the world do u find the mp3 for this?

its so hauntingly beautiful. major props to howard shore

  • There is a Complete recordings CD containing this song. Do a search for

The Lord Of The Rings Fellowship Of The Ring (The Complete Recordings)

  • ah thank you!!

  • Is this Quenya?
