I enjoyed it and was nice to everyone I met, but I preferred to play other games such as Club Penguin and going out rather than sitting on the computer until VMK closed for the day. Back to the business plan, go to VMKMagic and look at some of the threads. They give some pretty good facts about this business plan and how it affected VMK

But VMK was a game where they could throw any Disney franchise into. That's what was getting in their way. Should they have just one game containing few items from Disney franchises, or entire games dedicated to them? Which one means more money from the company? If they kept VMK open, Disney Interactive, not the Disney company itself, would be shut down.
Lets say Disney wanted to make a MMORPG based off The Little Mermaid. However, if they already had a game (VMK) where they could spend less time and money by placing Little Mermaid items and games in one game that could hold any Disney property, why would they make an entire game based off of this franchise? Money. Disney wants money. So instead of keep on placing stuff in VMK, they could make an entire game dedicated to whatever they want. VMK just didn't work.

However, something was wrong: VMK was a game based off the Disney Parks, which promote all of Disney's franchises. So if Disney Online wanted to put some Princess stuff in VMK, they could. Why? Because it all fit together. Let me explain a little better...
This isn't even CLOSE on why VMK closed. It closed because Disney had a change in business plans. VMK didn't fit the standards, sadly. Ever since that business plan went in power, Disney's games have been losing popularity. Now Club Penguin isn't really fitting the standards last I heard.
Sulake, Disney Stores, Disney theme parks, or whatever didn't have anything to do with VMK's closure, the business plan ended it all.

disney is not in trouble... They make enough money on parking alone at one theme park to run vmk and pay the staff, not to mention tickets and all the world wide parks and their movies. need i go on. Disny is a multi-billion/trillion dollar company. A bad year for them is making 5.3 trillion rather than 5.4 . We wont really know why they close until disney tells us which they wont. In my opinion Disney worked with another company and that company wanted to be paid more. Don't be spreadin rumors.

The reason they closed it was becase they made VMK to help celebrate the year of a million dreams. It was supposed to be open for ONE year, but since it had so much succses, they had it opened for longer. Finally, they closed it after a the next year.

The thing is it NEVER said on vmk "Happy 50th anniversery!" And why would you get rid of an over populated game?It was a huge hit plus It was practicly teaching kids about being polite,typing skills,and friendships so DUH!
The only reason VMK closed was because it was a promotion only game for the fiftieth anniversary of Disneyland in 2005. The large feedback from users playing the game kept it open those additional years. Disneyland is not having any economic trouble at all through our nation's depression. If it was having trouble the 1.1 billion dollars for restoration and advancement of DCA would not be happening.
I have a really hard time believing 50th anniversary reason because VMK was never promoted as such. From the very beginning Disney portrayed VMK as a virtual version of the theme parks that would be permenant and evolving. It was never advertised as a temporary "promotion." But VMK fans really shouldn't worry too much, because the Kingdom Keepers books seem to be pretty successful and Disney never leaves a good idea dead for long. Look at the new Witch Mountain remake.
I really hope VMK will reopen. I mean, millions of dollars went into all the account information, so could, if they open, retrieve all our friends, and pins, and quests, and even messages? That is a huge question I'll be stuck on for quite a while.. By the way, I was Jelly on VMK

Sulake also works on Habbo.Habbo makes you buy coins and alot of people have 3000-4000 coins so they were getting MILLIONS of dollars from profits.They made a correct bussiness choice and made habbo better, so mroe ppl would buy coins.BUT in Spring of 2009 Falling Stars Productions is making VMK Unleashed. And its legal. They dont own the VMK logo anymore.
When I went to Disney World and Disneyland, the two groups of people who were ahead of my family and I and we talked some and both of the groups were just doing the quests for fun, getting to know the secrets and such of the parks better. While the code cards did make money, it can not be proved anyone did it actually for VMK, as the only witness would be yourself if you wanted to do it, your family members can not say that was what were you thinking. Therefore, indirect profits.

That's a lie. They kept it open all last year and last year was the year of a million dreams. They didn't expect it to be such a big hit with the tween audience, so they kept it open. VMK made indirect money payments, of things like promotions. Go to Disneyland, get a Stitch hat. I only went to Disneyland for Stitch. But there was no way to prove it was money for VMK so it made nothing. Plus, it opened before 50th was kicked off ;)

I was in disney recentley when a dream maker came up to me and asked for a wish. I asked for VMK to reopen, and she said that that was their 4th wish today! They said they can't becuase sulake was not making enough from disney and they couldn't hold their contract.

disney is not in trouble... They make enough money on parking alone at one theme park to run vmk and pay the staff, not to mention tickets and all the world wide parks and their movies. need i go on. Disny is a multi-billion/trillion dollar company. A bad year for them is making 5.3 trillion rather than 5.4 . We wont really know why they close until disney tells us which they wont. In my opinion Disney worked with another company and that company wanted to be paid more. Don't be spreadin rumors.

@Alphaturtle94 Actually, I know why it closed. My family's friend works for Disney and he helped create VMK. The reason they closed it was becase they made VMK to help celebrate the year of a million dreams. It was supposed to be open for ONE year, but since it had so much succses, they had it opened for longer. Finally, they closed it after a the next year.

I would pay to play VMK. Disney is opening a cars world, WHY CARS? If you play smalloworlds or weeworld,
you know how you can have an option wether to earn points OR PAY for them.
Maybe if vmk made it so you can EARN AND BUY CREDITS, they would have enough money to run the game.

Guys to get vmk back, it was all free, so if they make it so that a few of the rare items are availible by real cash (kinda lyk yoville) maybe the vmk players can help with the profits in keeping VMK alive again. spending actual money may be a sacrifice but if it gets vmk back I know I would be all for it! I'm not saying it should cost you to make an account, no, that should still be free, I'm saying for some of the items!! hopefully nothing will be over $10 i think that's reasonable and fair

Wow, that was so hard to read, i almost started crying, my friend showed me vmk 2 years ago, i was like 8, i thought it was pointless, but when i started playing games, decorating my room and taking quests, after 2 months i was in love with vmk, when i told my mom that it was closing, she was upset cause that was the only thing i played. My fav game was fireworks, i would almost come in 1 place everytime i played.
I was quweenofsoccer, the owner of disney cafe, that place was always busy.

Umm thats not the real reason... vmk i asked on help why it was closing.. they said because it was only meant to for its 50th anniversary... but then that pasted... and then Sulake.. so actually two reasons.. Sulake closed it because they didnt get enough money and it was only suppose to stay for a year cause of the 50th anniverary.. so they kept it because tons of people liked it... but then Sulake... On it was i Coperfield btw

I've heard that it was because VMK was bought out by another owner (Kinda like when Club Penguin was bought out by Disney from the original owner). This person(s) got bored and bailed on all of us.
I've heard other reasons, but this is the only one I can remember.
They SAY VMK should be reopening in like a year, year and a half or so, but nobody knows for sure.
We may never know why VMK closed. We may never know if it will reopen.
All we can do is hope though, right?

it was meant to be just a little celebration for the 50th anniversary. They were going to end it sooner but sooo many people started playing it, the extended it. What i heard is that they ended it because of that reason.

The only reason VMK closed was because it was a promotion only game for the fiftieth anniversary of Disneyland in 2005. The large feedback from users playing the game kept it open those additional years. Disneyland is not having any economic trouble at all through our nation's depression. If it was having trouble the 1.1 billion dollars for restoration and advancement of DCA would not be happening.

I have a really hard time believing 50th anniversary reason because VMK was never promoted as such. From the very beginning Disney portrayed VMK as a virtual version of the theme parks that would be permenant and evolving. It was never advertised as a temporary "promotion." But VMK fans really shouldn't worry too much, because the Kingdom Keepers books seem to be pretty successful and Disney never leaves a good idea dead for long. Look at the new Witch Mountain remake.

Because VMK closed, i dont play any more Disney games (Toontown, CP, etc.) I think because VMK closed it affected the entire Disney company. Like the quests. And the Disney stores. But seriously, now Club Penguin. These guys really should borrow money from the government, unless their greedy whcih they probably are. Unemployment of some companies are goingfro 7% to 10%. Ok thats not why they shut it down VMK did make profits did you forget the code cards?? Sulake made all the stuff like the raphics and stuff. Sulake also works on Habbo.Habbo makes you buy coins and alot of people have 3000-4000 coins so they were getting MILLIONS of dollars from profits.They made a correct bussiness choice and made habbo better, so mroe ppl would buy coins.BUT in Spring of 2009 Falling Stars Productions is making VMK Unleashed. And its legal. They dont own the VMK logo anymore.

When I went to Disney World and Disneyland, the two groups of people who were ahead of my family and I and we talked some and both of the groups were just doing the quests for fun, getting to know the secrets and such of the parks better. While the code cards did make money, it can not be proved anyone did it actually for VMK, as the only witness would be yourself if you wanted to do it, your family members can not say that was what were you thinking. Therefore, indirect profits.

That's a lie. They kept it open all last year and last year was the year of a million dreams. They didn't expect it to be such a big hit with the tween audience, so they kept it open. VMK made indirect money payments, of things like promotions. Go to Disneyland, get a Stitch hat. I only went to Disneyland for Stitch. But there was no way to prove it was money for VMK so it made nothing. Plus, it opened before 50th was kicked off ;)

I was in disney recentley when a dream maker came up to me and asked for a wish. I asked for VMK to reopen, and she said that that was their 4th wish today! They said they can't becuase sulake was not making enough from disney and they couldn't hold their contract.
