But he has a good point when he says struggling bands rely solely on album sales to try and make it. It's almost noble of Tool and MJK's other bands to try and set that pressident.

If it costs 160,000 to make all the CD's and put it in stores, they are lucky if they get 100,000 dollars. if it costs $30 per CD the artist is lucky to get $1 per CD, the record lables rip them off to an unbelievable extent, which is /why/ people resrt to downloads, this is a new world, the old method sucks, artists are getting ripped off, this way, the labels have less power. Many artists put their mp3's on the net and if they're good, people will still buy the album because the physical thing is always better.
Don't belive the propaganda the RIAA puts out, free music has worked for a while now.

First of all, it's ridiculous to diss Radiohead for handing out their music for "free", it's their choice! And that choice alone does not shift music industry to any direction. it's beatiful how mp3's are killing the whoring record companies and bands. i think that the free music thing is interesting. i've seen bands on myspace have a tip hat connected to a paypal account where listeners can make any contribution they see fit. the days of the big tour bands are ending. the industry and its soul selling auction slabs has whored and raped rock to it's last fuck. it's time for an alternative. this is one.

Oh yah, maynard was saying what he said for "the little people". You're so off in space it's funny. Also, bands make more from touring than they do selling records. My buddy only plays little gigs in the city, but he gets paid 800-1500 per night. That's not bad for singing and playing guitar.

Actually a small artist like Jonathan Coulton manages to get by just fine by putting up free mp3's on his page and getting donations from people who support him, of course he also tours. It's his own choice. I also like the possibility that you can check out the merchandize before paying for it (we're talking about selling one song at a time). Why are so hostile? "play little gigs" at 1500 a night? Maybe a cover band, and I even doubt they would make that much. 700 at the most, and not every night. See, it is this idea that it is okay to rip off music because the artist will make up for it because of the live shows. How many artists music have you stolen, then actually went to their show?

If it costs 160,000 to make all the CD's and put it in stores, they are lucky if they get 100,000 dollars. Eventually these major artists wont exist because being one will be economically impractical. All there will be are some people who record bad quality shit on their garageband at home and not get money for it..

if it costs $30 per CD the artist is lucky to get $1 per CD, the record lables rip them off to an unbelievable extent, which is /why/ people resrt to downloads, this is a new world, the old method sucks, artists are getting ripped off, this way, the labels have less power. Many artists put their mp3's on the net and if they're good, people will still buy the album because the physical thing is always better.
Don't belive the propaganda the RIAA puts out, free music has worked for a while now.
