  • Lol This is awesome

  • The most awesome performance of Bought Me A Cat I have ever heard!!!!!

    Wow.

    ( :

  • i LOVE his way of hiding a mistakes in continuing singing duck's "quaak quaaak" and goose's "quäää quäää" the wrong way!

    that's what I call consequent :)

  • Suuuuppperrrrrr

  • fantastico

  • I'm actually playing this at my high school. But is this like a nusery rhyme? Don't give me dislikes, but it sounds like a song for little kids

  • I've listened to this this over 9000 times. It literally brought me out of depression.

  • He is such a good musician!!! Not that this song necessarily is a way to show that, but all of his interpretations are spot on.

  • no hands?

  • I like the orchestration of the piece, especially the animal sounds. Although they sound a bit wierd, they are very funny:D

  • this proves that Quasthoff is capable to sing whatever he wants!

    he's my hero!

  • Just plain awesome

  • This interpretation by T. Quasthoff is absolute and on the point. To bring out the meaning of humor and fun of the song by the writer, A. Copland. It is done in a magnificent way by T. Quasthoff.

  • why bother even looking up copland's music if you hate it so much? just to get a rise out of people you don't know. what pathetic losers. GO COPLAND!!!!!!!!!!!

  • To all you losers out there - THIS IS THOMAS QUASTHOFF WITH THE BERLIN PHILHARMONIC!! Insult Copland all you like but the truth is that he is capable of writing tremendous music played by musicians more talented than the vast majority of us will ever be. If you want to listen to Stravinsky of Chopin GO LISTEN TO STRAVINSKY OR CHOPIN AND STOP CLOGGING THIS PAGE WITH YOUR DOUCHEY COMMENTS!

    That is all :)

  • epic face at 2:25

  • I bought me a wife once too, it only lasted for about 10 minutes. Best damn 20$ spent.

  • Absolutely fabulous performance! Thanks.

  • I swear I'm having a difficult time withholding laughter right now. Quasthoff is truly awesome.

  • At the risk of being attacked by other commenters...again. I'd like to say that my first comment was really a joke. Who actually reads a comment that light-hearted and takes it seriously? So I don't like Copland. Boohoo. Get over it. I was just finding a light hearted comedic way to convey that I'm not a fan.

  • @KevinThornTV Doling out witty irony is not everyone's natural gift, it seems.

  • @walshamite No...but I guess being an asshole is a pretty common gift...

  • @kevinjthorn OK, resort to an unthinking scatological insult like that and you convince me I was right about you. I am not American, but would be proud of Copland if I were. He merely arranged a pre-existent song here, as he so often did. Thomas Q sings it with great humour. What is not to like?

  • aw his hands look so weird but great job :)

  • we are learning this in my choir and im speechless

  • I saw this in Music class... HAHAH!! Good jod! Lol:P

  • i love his expressions after he sings "my duck says quack quaaaack" at 1:59 and 2:26

  • i love his expressions after he sings "my duck says quack quaaaack"

  • @kevinjthorn

How can you compare Copland to Stravinsky or Chopin! These are totally different types of music!

  • @kevinjthorn

By the way, English language you're using isn't the English...I mean really. Go read Shakespeare! )))

  • If you would care to learn, Copland was very involved with the collection and recording of American folk music; in much the same way that Grainger preserved the traditional music of Britannia through is own interpretations and settings. While Chopin and Stravinsky, master composers in there own right, wrote primarily for an sophisticated adult audience, this work is and has always been geared towards children to invite them into our vast musical word. Know before you troll. @kevinjthorn

  • @kevinjthorn I hate Copland, but don't you dare say that he isn't music. He is. Just not good music in our opinion.

  • @kevinjthorn DO you have brick ears? This is surely an extremely well written humorous song, and if you listen to Copland's inspiring orchestral pieces, you may yet be smitten by his incredible musicality. Copland almost invented American music, for goodness sake. Thankfully, his beloved work speaks louder than any derogatory critics ever will.

  • @kevinjthorn What makes this not music? Is it too simple for you because it doesn't have changing time signatures and complicated rhythmic patterns? It's a shame you will never learn to appreciate subtleties.

  • @kevinjthorn Aaron Copland didn't compose this. He arranged it. It's a folk song.

If you're going to criticize someone, at least do your homework.

  • This struck me as a little ridiculous. Is he over-doing it on purpose for comic effect?

  • @SchmittyRKD Yes.

  • Love it! This is a brilliant, hilarious performance. I bought me a cat and it made a mess on the kitchen floor. I bought me a dog and it did a tiddle in the utility room.

  • The pig and hen and wife and horse were wrong!!!!

  • Best interpretation of this song I have seen so far

  • the faces the man makes!

  • I thought the pig says griffy griffy

  • Simply unique. Beautiful talent.

  • wow this is pure brilliance <3

  • he sings like aaron carter

  • If u notice he switchs the goose and duck noises during the verse that he adds the Pig to the song and continues doing it wrong the rest of the song lol

  • My ears hurt,my head is sore, my eyes burn, my mouth is frowning, and my brain says ow because of this.

  • I'm pretty sure Mr. Quasthoff's mom was prescribed Thalidomide for morning sickness, which was a common usage around 1960, in addition to the sleeping pill.

  • Maunz :'D

  • My favorite version, thanks Mr. Quasthoff .

  • cant stop laughing ^^!!!!

  • what's with his hands?

  • Thomas Quasthoff was born at a time when doctors prescribed thalidomide (in German Contergan) as a sleeping pill. One single pill was enough for the baby to be affected/harmed by it. There were 5000 children born in Germany with handicaps caused by thalidomide.

  • @kwertmil While that might be one of the most horrible stories I've ever heard and makes me wonder just who the heck gives their baby a sleeping pill, I will say that his handicap clearly doesn't prevent him from doing his thing. GO THOMAS QUASTHOFF!!!!

  • @jpg0901

not exactly. the pills were prescribed to the mothers during their pregnancy. but it affected "just" the babys i think. its a really sad story...

  • @moeckert sometimes babies get older.... (I mean it might happen)

  • @blissettluther sorry, but i don´t get your point. :P

  • @kwertmil wasn't thalidomide a morning sickness pill?

  • @19teenybee94

As soon as I know - yes.

  • Got to love Quasthoff - brings something special to everything he sings.

  • proof that every composer enjoys blazing up every once in a while...even copland lol

  • @drummingblind Copland was allegedly a cocaineer, but a lot of his pieces if you took the time to listen to them would have you acusing him of "blazing up"

  • wow i heard it at KSUCRadio caught my attention real funny

  • Had breakfast with my 2 and 1 year old listening to this 50 times. We loved it and clapped after every performance! Thank you Mr. Quasthoff for this exceptional performance!

  • i listened this with a girl, was great! c:

  • OMG!! We're singing this song in my choir!! It drives me insane but its hilarious!

  • that was fun! i love this guy's energy!!!!

  • Seriously.

    Wow.

  • isn`t he just brilliant?!!

  • Comment removed

  • I'm not sure but I think he is like t because he was born in a time when wifes took drugs for contraception.

If you don't know him, look at him singing "Der Wintereise" with Daniel Barenboïm (piano) or all his other lieder interpretation.

  • Sorry, but you're wrong. Thomas Quasthoff was born at a time when doctors prescribed thalidomide (in German Contergan) as a sleeping pill. It has nothing to do with contraception. One single pill was enough for the baby to be affected/harmed by it. There were 5000 children born in Germany with handicaps caused by thalidomide.

@ jErZyGiRl123: Mr. Quasthoff is one of the leading singers of our time...

    @ Masicians: very good idea!

  • You're right that he really is one the most important singers of our time.

    Thanks for all your informations!

Go to see my account you'll eventually hear some beautiful things.

    See y'a!

  • he sings really well?
