Im sorry Telecom but 15 to 20 mbps is just NOT good enough, we all want the speed that USA gets 100 mbps+ and why should telecom give townies high speed internet first, its fast enough for them as it is. Telecome and chorus should focus on the people who need it most,e.g rural farmers and rural schools, Farmers are New Zealands MAIN income so why should we get SHIT slow internet!!!!
@DAVIDgretener Hi there, I am not a Telecom Employee, but regarding getting even faster speeds the Fibre to the Home rollout is next to come (part of the presentation pointed out that the rollout means that Telecom has laid fibre out to all of these cabinets eg Fibre to within 2km of 80% of NZ). Note also the Rural broadband initiative.
@DAVIDgretener I hate to tell you this, but we don't get 100+ mbps in the USA. The average here is 4 mbps and cost between $45-$55 (US Dollars) with bandwidth caps. That is if you are lucky enough to be covered by one the sanctioned monopoly telcos/cable co's in the US. Most people only have one choice and maybe two if the live an a large metro area. Furthermore, there is almost no affordable broadband in rural parts of the US which is most of the country.
Yeh , great cabinets , but if you are not a telecomcustomer, that is vodaphone, Clear , etc, when these cabinets go online, all the non telecom broadband users get a huge speed drop, maybe 360 kbps from a measly 2 Meg because they don't contain ADSL cards for the competition so you get your broadband all the way from the exchange via copper not the new fibre,Fair and even is it not !!!!!
