voll krank das Menschen , so mit Menschen umgehen. Als ob sie wertloser wären....einfach schrecklich wie Menschen andere so verletzten können und es oft genug nicht einmal einsehen können. Jeder Mensch ist wertvoll!
Yes the stolen generation what a pity. I heard a story from an aboriginal lady who told her story about being taken away from her mother at a young age. She was looked after and brought up by a white family. She ended up as a head matron in a queensland hospital . Just think what a terrible life she has endured.
aboriginals get education, health care, income, housing & food for free (courtesy of australian taxpayers). After they get all that, they wag school every day, blow all their free money on alcohol, trash and destroy their houses (theyll get another 1), rock up to the hospital every 2nd night almost dead cos of alcohol, vandalise the salvation army for feeding them 24/7 and then theyll go stab & rob some white person for paying for all this. I live in the NT, u city folk dont know what happens
@what37fisa LOL you say NT as if you are proud !!! so lets recap - from the 3 people that live up there you have stereotyped every other region in australia ... dumbarse. Interesting that you have all the observations but no solutions ... isnt that the issue in the first place ? All of these actions (I believe some white people are bludgers too) are a result of past actions - or inaction in the NT who have lowest life expectancy, highest sexual assault figures etc
@sleeaustralind u dont get it. the point im makin is that most people (especially the people who live in citys & don't know what actually happens) see statistics bout life expectancy, education, assault etc and assume that all australians are racist and that the government is not doin enough about. Im telling people like u what really happens. The stats city people see give a false image. The high sexual assault rate, poor academic results, low life expectancy are that way because of themselves
@what37fisa - You have shot yourself in the foot mate. The statistics are racist - Aborigines are treated differently to other Aussies - the stats prove it. Your use of over simplified generalisations (such as city people , are that way because of themselves etc) only serve to ridicule your already non-existant argument.
@sleeaustralind im not tryin to persuade any1, all i doin is tellin ppl like u what really happens out here. ur right, they are treated differently, about 5 times better than everyone else in this country. yet ppl like u blame us for them stabbin each other, robbing us, breakin everythin the government gives them, stayin unemployed & spendin all the taxpayers money they get for nothing on alcohol, then filin hospitals almost dead because of the grog. i no its not the case with every1, but almost
We have power under the act to take any child from its mother at any stage of its life... Are we going to have a population of one million blacks in the Commonwealth or are we going to merge them into our white community and eventually forget that there were ever any Aborigines. That's just one quote.
@CRAZYASFUK1 aboriginese are not black they are just the natives of australia when you say black it reffers to african i hate it when you guys call them black it just gives the impression they are african when they are not
@borneo215 that comment is A O Neville, Chief Protector of Aborigines, WA
Native Welfare Conference, 1937 said not me. In Australia aboriginals are black if where not black what are we green? As soon as other races got to Australia they started to call aboriginals blacks, natives, even Indians like in American Indian not Asia.
The whole world doesn't revolve around what America perceive as being black. different counties have different definitions.
@CRAZYASFUK1 if you look closely you will see your not black your dark brown your not African and never will be you guys look completely different too abs are not black do you know the color black? lol african are called black i think your government is a fukkin fool to call you gus black wtf was he thinking is he color blind or some shit DARK BROWN NOBODY IS BLACK!!!/ THEY SHOULD JUST CALL YOU GUYS ABORIGINALS NOT BLACK COZE THATS NOT WHAT YOU ARE AND NEVER WILL BE
@borneo215 LOL if you think Africans are the only ones that should be referred to as black then never come down to Australia. Because Maoris are black aboriginals are black Torres strait islanders are black Melanesians are black New Guineans are black. I could keep going. Once again just because America says BLACK means African DOES NOT MEAN THE WHOLE WORLD DOES.
wonna know something else i saw an abo working for docs the other day and it was docs that was responsible for the saved generation how fucking hypocritical aye.
@AlienFirefox No - they are not. That is the same as saying we are all african because much scintific evidence points to this being the site of human evolution.
aborigines are asian its believed they originated from chins around 7800 years ago there the third race of people in australia and try to claim the credit for the other 32000 years that isnt theres.
also australia only because oceania when the real aussies turned up and made this country the paradise it is today before we came here australia was nothing but a baron wasteland aborigines have a lot to thank for
@borneo215 What you're doing is just another form of racism. While you discuss/argue the question of what THEY should describe themselves as, you're forgetting or omitting to address the real issues. Have you ever gone to match a black garment with another? there's lots of different colours that are called 'black', as there are with white fabrics - the same with skin colour. Of course, the aboriginal people in the top end of Australia are very black, but those down south are too!
@nannyomi45 what your doing is inviting yourself in other peoples conversations why dont you mind your own business and go away because nobody asked your opinion or idea thank you goodbye
@borneo215 I'm so sorry! Nobody told me that this space was your specially owned personal area! I thought all members had the same rights! How ridiculous of me! If you point me to the Rule Book that points this out, I'll offer my most humble apologies! Didn't realise that you'd paid for the rights of ownership! Ooooopppppsssss!
PS- If you take a really good look, you may find that I was on this space 3 years ago! How long have you been 'here'? Your turn! Bully!
@borneo215 - They call themselves black! It has nought to do with you whether you like it or not. Just another example of your arrogance. It's not only people from Africa who are black. The reasons children were stolen was because they weren't 'black enough'? In fact, in some families of perhaps 4 kids, only one might be removed due to a lighter skin colour. With that in mind, imagine how offensive it is to aboriginal people when you tell them not to use the word 'black'? It's their business!
There is not a case proven where children were not taken on the grounds of their welfare and safety, but to "make them white" or "breed out the colour".
Although this has been proven as left wing drivel it is still taught in our left wing school system as genocide.
A genocide that saves lives?
Half castes...to be more specific, products of an illegal union could be killed and so could the mother due to strict tribal law.
Often they were just shunned or left on ant hills.
@SuperPoyda are you kidding? learn your history before you open your mouth, i'll send you 1 a farmer i met who as a child witnessed it with his own eyes if you want to see it prolly not most people are to blind to see, he tells the story and has the map it happend on his farm where his family let the tribe live....
Not one case ever proven and the one compensation claim was paid due to a public servant not following the strict policies of government that were more sympathetic to aboriginal shildrens needs than it was to whites.
PROVEN TRUTH. Pity for the nasty anti white western democracy lefties brainwashing our kids in schools that wanted so badly to hate white society and find fault.
They have tried to prove this in the courts many times.
Some say the "stolen generation" was never actually stolen. They were willingly handed over by mothers who could not provide the best for their children. Yet, others see it as the "white man" trying to push the "dead" aboriginal culture out of the children. Most of the children that where actually taken where "halfe cast" (half white/half aboriginal).
127. In reckoning the numbers of the people of the Commonwealth, or of a State or other part of the Commonwealth, aboriginal natives should not be counted.
fpsBeaTt, sections from the Australian Constitution in the 1960's indicates govt policy was racially motivated. 51. The Parliament shall, subject to this Constitution, have power to make laws for the peace, order, and good government of the Commonwealth with respect to:- (xxvi) The people of any race, other than the aboriginal people in any State, for whom it is necessary to make special laws.

Dear 'Logicbeatslies' - That white settlers victimised the indigenous population is in no need of 'proof' by me. I was merely responding to a comment which stated there was 'no documentary evidence' of this by, showing 2 'government documents'! The law is not supposed to discriminate, the fact there were 'special laws' indicates victimisation. Hitler had 'special laws' for Jews, Stalin had 'special laws' for intellectuals! You'd be safe with Stalin, no logic in your post.
@thysweetlove It's a matter of damned if you do, and damned if you don't. If you cared to read into the matter and keep everything in context, you'd know that aboriginals had to be treated different because they lived completely different lives. They didn't interact with modern city ways, (still don't) as they needed to live their indigenous lifestyle.
What the hell has Stalin got to do with anything? You've worked yourself up in a sate of fear and everything is cloudy, so bad you misrepresent.
@thysweetlove What happens if you treat the aboriginals as the same = stolen generation. If you treat them differently you get compared with Hitler. What a crock. So you don;'t want a resolution, just to see white people suffer. You make it impossible when you dictate that all actions of non-aboriginals must be damned.
So which is it?
1. Same laws for aboriginal as white people = stolen generation
2. special laws that take their needs into account = intervention
@thysweetlove I don't for a second believe there was an attempted genocide. If you haven't noticed aboriginals are nice people. There was a serious outcry of grief when people realised that the aboriginal people wouldn't survive. It's why you're here talking to now.
It may surprise you (and shame you) but indigenous people have never survived the impact of modern man. The UK certainly didn't want to see you go and the governors (most) were proactive about your survival.
I think we want the same thing, for everyone to have a 'fair go', regardless of their origin.
I like what you said about the Aboriginal stock workers being exceptional, but needing to go 'walkabout'. You have hit the nail on the head. This is the problem they face, they are between cultures. The answer is not to turn them away because they'll 'go walkabout', the answer may be, 'Here's a job, cos your good at it, but next time you go walkabout, can I come too!'
@thysweetlove I like where you're coming from but the problem with adapting to aboriginal culture is that we are trained to be productive. We are in a position where we must compete on an international level. We have to refine our methods of production to maximise output. People have to work 50 hour weeks etc...
I can definitely see the flaw in my analysis, but that's the mentality. It's really hard to give up.
3. As soon as the English set foot on Australian soil the 'no interaction' option was dead. Unlike the more aggressive New Zealand Maori, who fought the English on arrival - and gained respect and a treaty for this approach - the Australian aborigine welcomed the invaders (at least initially) with a mixture of surprise and curiosity.
"William Dampier, the first English 'navigator' to discover Australia; shot dead an aborigine as he came ashore." (Sydney Morning Herald - July 23rd 1988).
@thysweetlove The early settlers were instructed to make friends with the natives. They actually tried. It was when aboriginals started dying from common diseases like the cold thing got bad. I know that aboriginals were systematically rough handled. It started slow but farmers wanted more and were totally insensitive. My forebears are part of that, so it's clear to me.
You may underestimate the connection. Not all settlers wanted the British way. Aboriginal life was a preference to many men.
2. ...'take THEIR needs into account.' - The Kinchella Home for Aboriginal Boys. Here boys taken from their parents were trained how to be farm labourers. Once trained they were sent to sheep/cattle stations. For 18 hour days of back-breaking work, they were paid 'rations'. As they got older some of this ration would include alcohol. Eventually they were paid in 'Alcohol Tokens' which they could use to buy alcohol from the station owner! Taking THEIR needs into account!
@thysweetlove2. That's just sad. I'm sorry but the only experience I've had with aboriginal livestock handles is that they are exceptionally good but they are prone to go 'walkabout'. The farmers will hire them because they are so good, but they wont get far because they are totally unreliable.
I want you to put this in your mind to understand the current state of things. It seems a backward step to focus on isolated past incidents and not see the bigger picture, up until the current state.
I do not wish to see anyone suffer, I wish for all people to be treated as equal and to share equal rights and opportunities.
Regarding your strange 3 point 'theorem'
1. As you already agreed, there were NOT the same laws for Aboriginals as for whites. But, in any case, your formulae no.1 makes no sense because these 'special' laws were racially specific; you can't have a racially specific law for ALL races!

@thysweetlove I don't WANT racially specific laws, but it's a lie to suggest that aboriginals could ease their way into Australia's colonial model like the Europeans could. I don't like double standards. Aboriginals are smart about political ideals like that. It's just a quick fix that causes problems later on.
If people have pride they want what's best for them. I'm in no position to say what that is. The trouble is we didn't give each other a chance. The best ideas are 'ground-up' initiatives
That's the one thing that makes me feel horrible to be Australia.
Even if it was the goverment and stuff ages ago, I still feel devastated.
Even if Kevin Rudd said sorry and all that...it still doesn't make a difference.
No ones accepting them in, they're hardly getting support, they waste theyre lives with booze on the streets...Broome in WA was a clear image of how sad it was. I just hope everything can change...?
Most of the stolen genoration were whites. funny how this fact has been forgoten. ive got no dought that most of the aborigional stolen genoration lived a far better life because they were taken from there petrol sniffin mothers and given an education and a chance in sociity.
@1PabloEscobar1 No they wouldnt be doin alot of bad things if it wasnt for white people but the stolen genoratoin was an attempt to help children living in poverty not somthing done to punish or whipe out the aborigionals. those abouigionals of the stolen genoration would probably be dead if they wernt form the stolen genoration.
@1PabloEscobar1 whats really sad is that now there are aborigional children being bought up in horrible conditions and nothing gets done in fear of what has happened in the past. when it comes to aborigionals ya dammed if ya do and dammed if ya dont. would it hav been right to exclude abouigionals from the attempt to get these children out of poverty?
The fact remains that lots of kids were removed from thier parents or carers. In many cases boriginal half caste kids would not be looked after becuase they gardia (aboriginal word for whites which means the white underside of a snakes belly) in them.
I worked in the Aboriginal Industry for many years and people would not believe or allow me to voice what I saw becuase it was true/racist.
It's rather funny, because at the time children of all racial backgrounds were being removed due to neglect. If you research the subject, you'll find that there's absolutely no substantiated or documented evidence to support that there was a racially motivated policy to abduct Aboriginals. What about the forgotten generation, where 100 000 Caucasians were removed and subjected to horrific conditions? Was that a racially motivated policy? Oral history = hearsay, which is not admissible as fact
@fpsBeaTt... you will notice that it is rife with racially motivated language. Also, I laugh at the point you make about oral history... There are masses of documentation out there if people want to read it before making unfounded judgements. Fuck, you could even google most of it you twit.
@fpsBeaTt The Half-caste acts, the common name given to legislation passed in WA and Vic, were the models upon which the 1897 Aboriginal Protection and restriction of the sale of opium Act was based. This act, under the guise of protective measures, allowed the systematic removal and separation of many thousands of aboriginal children and mothers. If you actually take the time to read the 1897 Act before you next propagate such infantile, prejudicial seeds among our society,...
@bgm001 Yes you know your history bgm001 it's a pitty more Australians do not. Don't forget that the 1967 referendum was not about aboriginals being able to vote is was about approving the commonwealth govt to legislate for the native people. They legislated alright....made negative, discriminative racist laws to kidnap their children, a 10 point racist plan & NT Intervention to name a few.Supposedly in the best interests of the indigenous people ..not.Vested interests, mining companies & govt etc
pffft how many people are in a generation? more like 'stolen small group of people.' Besides who the fuck refers to themselves as stolen when they get abducted?? When is the last time you turned on the news and heard "A man was stolen from his bedroom during the night." The man's wife says "I went to sleep and I was sure he was in bed with me, somebody must have stolen him??" Get your terminology right.
- Victorian Government couldnt find a single Aboriginal child whod been stolen just because they were black
-Victoria had no formal policy for removing children
-that taskforce, to justify its existence, even had to broaden the definition of stolen to include children who had been rescued from harm, abandoned, raised by grandparents who lived white, or even just sent by their parents to boarding school (absolutely true)
nothing wrong with whites. they just have double standards... they want equality but then they say 'whiteys get out' and want us to give them everything... and the second we say no we get called nazis
@bbgurl22ful they have been doing this around the globe. Africa, asia, india amerikkka. STEAL EVERYTHING for their wealth. Their lives are lies. their pay back is coming they wont get away with this and none of their tecnology that NATIVES made for them, is going to save them.. No reply will be read to this. peace and blessings.
-Aboriginal foster generation exceeds Stolen Generations- The Australian.
'The total suggests that about one in six Aboriginal children is now a ward of the state'
At the moment their are more aboriginal children being removed from their families than the stolen generation. Generally for the same reasons. Sad but true..... Neglect. The right thing to do would be the removal of alcohol and damaging influences. But that would be racist.
@bbgurl22ful You're a naive racist moron; read my other comment which explains everything. Also, there have been at least two supreme court test trials which found there to be no evidence of any policy of forced removal for racist reasons. Also, what was wrong with white people? You mean what was wrong with everybody. Pretty much everywhere in the world @ that time had racism, directed universally. You of course ignore this, and continue to perpetuate a myth which will only create division.
@bbgurl22ful You guys? What do you mean "you guys"? I don't have anything to take responsibility for anything, even if we do accept your revisionist, racist and unsubstantiated history. You're saying just because I'm Caucasian I have something to take responsibility for? Racist prick.
@fpsBeaTt WOW! Two supreme court 'test trials'... Blows everything else out of the water doesn't it. Does your name happen to be Keith Windschuttle? If it's not I can take a safe bet that your very familiar with the name.
I suggest those who are interested read Keith Windshuffle's article in the Weekend Australian. See Inquirer section p6. Entitled "The Myths of Stolen Generations". He has gone and searched the archives presenting facts, which has seemed to go by the wayside in this politically charged issue.
The "ABO" word: In 1938 aboriginal activist Jack Patten started the first indigenous newspaper in Australia.
"The Australian Abo Call".... Yes.........., ABO Call. The newspaper was funded by a white man, W.B.Miles, who was a well known Nazi sympathizer. The word ABO was certainly NOT a white-racist inspired term to degrade aboriginals.
The director of the SBS series " The First Australians" Rachel Perkins had told of her father Charles Perkins being one of the two famous "stolen Children". The other being Lowitja O'Donohue, who later confessed that in fact she had NOT been stolen but been abandoned. Charles Perkins turned out NOT to have been stolen either, and his mother in fact begged a Christian boarding school to take the brightest of her children to give him a future.
What would you know of what happened to Aboriginal people when they had no rights to even enter the town they were born in without an exemption notice even after they had fought for the country? If you are going to critisise, then do some research
dougtay : My comment was to draw attention to the sometimes distorted "facts" regarding the white invasion / stolen generation in the SBS program. Case in point, Charles Perkins & Lowitja O'Donohue. They were NOT stolen so why create lies in the SBS program. Also the myth that white settlers brought smallpox to Australia has been disproved and it was more likely from Indonesian fisherman / traders. Just imagine where Aboriginals would be now under Indonesian administration..... No dole there.
Point taken; distortion of facts are the key words, there was definitely laws of the past that served to discriminate against a section of the Australian community but this seems to have been lost through an education system that taught nothing to the general Australian public of past events of Australian history! By the way, Aboriginals are not the only one's recieving the dole in this country
Intent was not to single out aboriginals as being the only dole recipients, but just wanted to point out that all Australians today are better off because of the "white Invasion" rather than an "Asian invasion". I say that because I have lived in Asia and there is no safety net or medical benefits for people who dont have the means to pay for it. This is still the "Lucky Country" in comparison to what is happenning to minorities in other countries.
I think you are wasting your time trying to present facts in this issue. There is much to be gained in distorting the facts to paint the worst picture possible. Anyone questioning the validity of stated "facts" is immediately painted as a racist red neck. This is an attempt to silence those who may have genuine empathy but merely want to uncover the truth of the matter.
LittleMissRandom if u believe that Aboriginal people don't mind being called "Abo" try it on 1 night when u meet an Aboriginal person on the street. U'll be lucky if u don't get ur silly head knocked off, sadly it will b the Aboriginal person who pays the consequence 4 ur ignorance. Nannyomi45 My friend, so much energy is wasted on those who don't want 2 be enlightened, @times we have 2 let them live in ignorance & learn their lessons the hard way. I hope u had a wonderful festive season.
Do you know why Palm Island came to be? Do you know about the aboriginal man Doomatje?(spelling?)who died after 1 hr in police custody?Or the aboriginal man in WA who was allowed to 'fry' in the back of a police van in temperatures outside of 45 and inside of maybe 50 something? These in the last few yrs?Read Black deaths in Custody Report online. 'Stolen Generations' Report, also on line.Out of over 90 recommendations re black deaths, not one has been implemented - not one!READ SOMETHING!
Read something like I suggested that is easy to read and about someone you know. Cathy is a great role model for her people, and a great example to young aboriginal kids. She goes out of her way very quietly, seeking kids out etc.Did you know that her parents were even denied the right to travel and visit their parents a few decades ago?Her great grandfather was a soldier in WW1 but his wife, unlike other soldiers wives didn't receive her husband's pay? They were only allowed in pubs on Anzac Day?
Ozyorga - He's also on the internet. I'm hoping he brings out a new CD soon. His voice is amazing - nice to listen to while the hands are in the potting mix, repotting and getting ready for spring/summer.I intend to finish my plans for this area this year.I use broccoli boxes and will cover with green hessian and then use bark chips? Red ones perhaps? Cheap and effective on a pension!I need about 6 more.I also listen to Archie Roach-what a lovely human being he is, and an amazing voice too!
Sorry you fellas, I didn't realise comments would not be next to the original post. Mine were for nanyoni45 with thx, and the others were for DezoCorka without thx.
Ozyorga- I've just been out in my courtyard tending to my plants, and listening to Gurrumul - a beautiful album that won another Aria this year - for best artistic album, I think! He won 2 last yr, plus a couple of Deadley awards. He's a great indigenous artist-his voice gives me goosebumps. He plays a right handed guitar upside down(as he's left handed) and has been blind since birth.I'm sure you know of him.Message Stick did a program on him in 2 parts.Great stuff!
Gurrumul, is an Angel, with a voice to match.I was given his CD by my son's mother in Law, after I had seen him on TV, it may have been Message Stick.I believe we manifest what we want or need, & that CD manifested 4 me.His voice soothes ur very soul.I sing with a group of singers of Aboriginal songs, we r made up of Indigenous and non-indigenous, and we all believe in the healing power of music.Google us 2hear some of our work. We do have a CD as well.Yes Woolah 2 the brother. Peace & bless U.
Starwithnoname -Prior to Howard's intervention(which hasn't even produced a handful of arrests for abuse?)aboriginal people could buy staples(like flour, sugar etc)in bulk at their local store-now they're forced to the big chains to use their 'cards'!Sensible?govt rules? You use one or a couple of examples and tar everyone with that brush. How would you like all people with your hair colouring damned due to one person committing a murder,or stealing? It's obscene as are your generalities!Unjust too
Starwithnoname-If you watched the SBS program last yr,'Who do you think you are' you'd have seen Cathy Freeman, and the life of her parents, grandparents and great grandparents.Even aboriginal men who fought next to white Aussies were discriminated against-their wives didn't receive their pay like the white wives?Abor.men fought in each war, even when they weren't even recognised as citizens-only flora and fauna?Good enough to die for the country though.1st cricket team to represent Aus.was abor.
Starwithnoname_Yes we do, but your trite and glib comments are without substance or insight. We also build schools for white kids, none these days suffer from Rheumatic fever caused by infections etc from overcrowding, poor sanitation etc.White remote kids get all sorts of assistance to either attend schools or have 'school of the air'?Some of the most high populations of indigenous people are also our greatest tourism attractions;Uluru,Kakadu, the Kimberly etc-impoverished aboriginal people there!
U go Girl...I am a member of the stolen Gen, Sexually abused in foster care, still carrying the trauma scars, was seperated from my brother. Proud 2 B Aborigine, Still surviving, but many haven't. Thx Sis.
Ozyorga - I'm so sorry that you have suffered because of this. How horrific it must be for you. I too hate the term "abo", it's used as a weapon of racism, and fills me with disgust. You do not have to thank me. It's my pleasure to defend such hateful bigotry - although it makes me weary and sad! However, if you can fight on, I have nothing to complain about. Stay proud!
@LittleMizzRandom - How old are you, and where have you been all this time? Living under a rock perhaps."Abo" is a revolting word, that is deliberately used to demean and humiliate aborginal people. It's at least insensitive and at worst is insulting. The proper word is 'aboriginal' which is a word that immediately is enriching to aboriginal people."Abo" is as insulting as 'wog' or some other racist term. You should read more!
@LittleMizzRandom - Using this horrible word carries the same revolting emotion as 'nigger'? Imagine living each day knowing that some people hold you in such contempt, that they resort to words and terms like this? Empathy. Try it! In fact, I join those who want that name for cheese removed - "Coon"! Another racist term, when there's heaps more appropriate ones to use - the dictionary is full of them?
well sorry but i live in a community were we have not been racist for decades so i wouldnt no half the insulting terms other ppl use in other places. >:( ok? i actually know/are related to a LOT of multicultural ppl and i grew up with. my uncle, and his family were figian, i have counsin who live in england, and 2 of my close friends are indian and african.
and sorry if i am not up to date with the latest isults >:(
@LittleMizzRandom - It's time you grew up.I don't care if you have half the United Nations living on your doorstep. If you can write something here, you're old enough to educate yourself.I've heard too many like you say'my best friend is black' blah blah, but remain ignorant. You're part of the problem.Educate yourself, then you can be a big part of the solution. The solution to racism is education and a sense of justice.Racism is the worst form of injustice I can think of!
@LittleMizzRandom - Go to this site and watch Episode one of First Australians. There were 8 in the series.I thought I was pretty aware but I was shocked, stunned and educated.I'm even more determined to rile up against racism every chance I get.Your library would have a whole section on Aboriginal Culture etc.Read a book about Cathy Freeman's life to start with.Someone every Australian can relate to.Or Henry Reynolds books?
@LittleMizzRandom - Every Sunday at 1.30pm on ABC TV there's Message Stick(on holidays at present, but past programs are on)SBS has Living Black. Both of these programs are repeated at some other time or you can tape them.I keep up to date with lots of great things by watching these, and also documentaries re difficult topics like Domestic Violence etc. There's no excuses any more-these are also online as is ABC documentaries of 7.30 Report etc.Plenty of ways to learn.
Starwithnoname-You don't want to read anything that might conflict with your racism.Instead, you hate people like me, a white, who has the audacity to want to reach out to the people who own this land;who's read heaps of history, listened to aboriginal people speak, wanted and did support them in their quest for justice.Indigenous people around the world are in similar or worse position-always due to being colonized by white empire builders such as the US & Britain!
I can only remember Cathy Freeman saying that her gold medal win was very special because her brother was watching and "he wasn't even drunk". Only certain people can speak the truth.
Starwithnoname -Go away! Get your selective hearing attended to! I watched that gold medal race, I taped it, I've watched almost every interview Cathy gave(which aren't many - the reason is all too clear?)and I never heard her say a derogatory word about any member of her family. In fact, apart from her praise for her parents, their history, and their great grandparents history, Cathy doesn't say much at all? Why would she?
Starwithnoname - No doubt you didn't watch Message Stick a couple of weeks ago - their 10 yr anniversary on ABC. Cathy and her mother were interviewed, and it was a great joy to watch, how she respects and admires her mother's strength, how her mother had to be so strong etc. Only love, loyalty and warmth in that family - apart from the sister she lost a few years ago. Cathy was with her nieces and nephews, all lovely smiling kids. You're the one with the problem mate!
Starwithnoname-I'm not 'falling over myself with guilt'?My response to what aboriginal people have and are suffering, is a simple human response to the suffering of other human beings. If you aren't capable of this, OK, but don't denigrate me because I can. You're twisting the discussion to suit yourself-you're so determined to humiliate my position, that you're totally incapable of rational thought or sense of justice.Your problem mate, not mine!
Starwithnoname-I'm not "falling over" myself with guilt-I just hate injustice, always have, since I was a kid.I'm not obsessive or a fanatic,I just don't like people using a few examples and then using that to denigrate a whole group or race of people. If you can't imagine what it must be like to be abused/ridiculed/humiliated each day due to racism, then you have a huge problem of lack of insight!I have plenty of people who agree with me-your brand of racism is on the decline-thank god!
Starwithnoname -Incidently,I'm a member of a growing number of Australians who genuinely feel sad and ashamed of the actions of past & sadly present govts re aboriginal people.Reconciliation Australia conducted a survey which showed good support for reconciliation. You're the "sad case"?A relic of hateful racists who close your eyes to the horrific stats of non-aboriginal people too. When you put forward any legitimate stats,I'll investigate. You haven't so far!
Starwithnoname-Well, where did you get your medical degree from?A weeties packet? You go away you ugly racist person.Go and read some educational books!I'm not a racist!I'm challenging you.You are so arrogant in your views, that when asked for proof of your statements you use attack!I'm done!
They need help, asshole, because you robbed them of their identity and cultue. You stole their children! .Aborigines face the same problems as other indiginous people under european colonialism. This includes alchholism, substance abuse, high crime rates, etc. From the Inuit, to the A Indian, to the polynesian, and to the Aborigine. Where ever white people go, indiginous people suffer. This is because white culture is immoral and exploits people. Always has, always will.
And who forces them to drink alcohol? Some whiteys aiming a pistol at their heads? They theirselves decided to drink and suffer, and show to the whole world, what primitive and disgusting people they are. If they are irresponsible like little kids, they can't blame others for their own failures.
DezoCorka-Get fucked! At any time at any pub there's heaps of whites behaving badly, drunk as skunks and taking up beds in ER that belong to those who have cancer or a heart attack etc.Probably you too!
@LittleMizzRandom - I have nor will ever use or speak that word. I've educated myself to the extent, that I abhor the over 200 yrs of genocidal attitudes and practices. As a non-indigenous woman, I'm ashamed of such racist terms, and in my mind there's no excuse for the deliberate and insulting behaviours of racism. Watch First Australians, or read some books written by Henry Reynolds. One really good one is, 'Why Weren't We Told' or "This Whispering in our Hearts'? Try your library!
Starwithnoname - I reject any view such as yours, that just keeps on spruiking racist crap without any stats or essays or ??You want to remain ignorant - good, go for it!The rest of us will go on without you.
Starwithnoname-What I counter are comments based on total prejudice. You haven't read anything, nor are you interested in learning anything.YOu're more than happy to remain ignorant. That's your choice.I don't choose to,and I hate racism.LIke sexism,it's destructive and destroys peoples' lives.I have taken exception to people who use racist terms that I find repulsive.I'll continue to do so.
Starwithnoname-You have not given one bit of proven fact, so don't have the damned cheek to have a go at me.You don't want to listen, read or expand your pre-conceived racist assertions. When you tell me what you've read;why you reject any indigenous person who doesn't tell you what you WANT to hear, don't respond to me again!
"Abo" is a derogertory word for Aboriginals, I would ask you to use the abreviation Abg., if you were inclined to be a person with a fair amount of intellect to know that what you put out in negativity to any person or people will return to you tenfold. I wish you well in the energies you put out to the universe, however I believe you will need to duck for cover, as the Goona buries you.
the fact that aboriginal children were removed from there families is horrible. aboriginals were such a proud nation but all i see today is depression and stress and aboriginal children on the street, it just seems like no one cares for them. i am aboriginal myself and i still think sorry just isn't good enough
yeah its terrible, and very complicated. but aboriginal kids are sufferin today from epidemic levels of mental and sexually abuse, just letting aboriginies do their own thing dosent work they obviously need help. but as i said its all very complicated.
... I just read all the comments here. LOL OMG. To anyone who comes upon the video, don't read the comments. It is a wank-fest of epic butthurt proportions from everybody.
The most shameful thing is that Australians are not a proud nation. If they were, they wouldn't become so flagellant, when some Stone Age primitives start yelling.
RosettaH1 I was removed from my mother & for the last 12years I have tried to bring my son home who is "Stolen" from me & I cant even speak to my son & this is perpetrated by so called aboriginals & my son entered grade 7 doing his reading & spelling from grade 2 & his mathematics from grade 3 I have had to watch him dragged from his mothers arms rushed off in the night to who knows where then those carers writing that he cried for his mum & dad until he made himself physically sick that's today
Wateva Starwithnoname.. Authorities controlled everything, even to the extent that my people weren't allowed to hunt for food to feed their children.. open your eyes and look at what really went on..
Starwithnoname-I had a chronic kidney/bladder condition for yrs/I don't have a sweet tooth;don't eat cakes, chocolate, soft drinks, don't have sugar in tea etc, hardly eat pies etc either. You acquired your medical degree where exactly?Type 1 diabetes is not caused by diet-only adult diabetes is INFLUENCED by diet!
Starwithnoname -Well, why doesn't the federal government make sure that fresh fruit and vegetables get to remote communities? If non-aboriginal people who live in remote farming areas can get fresh food, whey doesn't the govt ensure the same for remote areas, where black & white people live? Why stop a CDEP funded program where indigenous men were growing fresh vegetables? Why support a policy where aboriginal people have to spend hundreds of dollars on a taxi to the big town to use their 'card'?
Starwithnoname-I've never heard so much crap.Where does this occur, how many are involved? The fact is,that the Howard govt stopped the CDEP program so they could quarantine half the incomes-the vegie patch was allowed to die due to no workers?Fresh food takes ages to get to remote places, and not many whites live where heaps of aboriginals live.Aboriginal people are forced to go to large areas(cities?)as they can only use certain stores-they're forced to spend hundreds on taxis?
Starwithnoname-Name the remote areas where non-aboriginal people live? The one near Uluru? No non-indigenous people there unless it's the doctor etc. Many remote areas came about because whites wouldn't allow them to live near them due to racism-you turn their racist attitude around and use it against aboriginal people.Palm Island was 'created' to send aboriginal ppl who wouldn't toe the line-too uppitty? Not breaking the law, just not complying with racist rules, like curfew, needing permission to???
Starwithnoname-what's happening to Palestinians is very similar to how aboriginal people have and still are being treated. Why was a 4 yr old aboriginal little girl turned away from a hospital several times(3 or 4)and finally was admitted, only to die soon after?Wouldn't happen to a white kid-there'd still be screams as indeed there should. This sort of discrimination is endemic! You don't bother to answer any assertions of mine, just glib comments that you treat as fact, and most are full of shit!
That is the problem with power... there is no accountability

I live in the NT, u city folk dont know what happens
what37fisa 11 months ago
@what37fisa LOL you say NT as if you are proud !!! so lets recap - from the 3 people that live up there you have stereotyped every other region in australia ... dumbarse. Interesting that you have all the observations but no solutions ... isnt that the issue in the first place ? All of these actions (I believe some white people are bludgers too) are a result of past actions - or inaction in the NT who have lowest life expectancy, highest sexual assault figures etc
sleeaustralind 8 months ago
@sleeaustralind u dont get it. the point im makin is that most people (especially the people who live in citys & don't know what actually happens) see statistics bout life expectancy, education, assault etc and assume that all australians are racist and that the government is not doin enough about. Im telling people like u what really happens. The stats city people see give a false image. The high sexual assault rate, poor academic results, low life expectancy are that way because of themselves
what37fisa 8 months ago
@what37fisa - You have shot yourself in the foot mate. The statistics are racist - Aborigines are treated differently to other Aussies - the stats prove it. Your use of over simplified generalisations (such as city people , are that way because of themselves etc) only serve to ridicule your already non-existant argument.
sleeaustralind 8 months ago
@sleeaustralind im not tryin to persuade any1, all i doin is tellin ppl like u what really happens out here. ur right, they are treated differently, about 5 times better than everyone else in this country. yet ppl like u blame us for them stabbin each other, robbing us, breakin everythin the government gives them, stayin unemployed & spendin all the taxpayers money they get for nothing on alcohol, then filin hospitals almost dead because of the grog. i no its not the case with every1, but almost

We have power under the act to take any child from its mother at any stage of its life...

Of course, the aboriginal people in the top end of Australia are very black, but those down south are too!

nannyomi45 7 months ago
@borneo215 - They call themselves black! It has nought to do with you whether you like it or not. Just another example of your arrogance. It's not only people from Africa who are black. The reasons children were stolen was because they weren't 'black enough'? In fact, in some families of perhaps 4 kids, only one might be removed due to a lighter skin colour. With that in mind, imagine how offensive it is to aboriginal people when you tell them not to use the word 'black'? It's their business!
nannyomi45 8 months ago
There is not a case proven where children were not taken on the grounds of their welfare and safety, but to "make them white" or "breed out the colour".
Although this has been proven as left wing drivel it is still taught in our left wing school system as genocide.
A genocide that saves lives?
Half castes...to be more specific, products of an illegal union could be killed and so could the mother due to strict tribal law.
Often they were just shunned or left on ant hills.
SORRY we saved them

Not one case ever proven and the one compensation claim was paid due to a public servant not following the strict policies of government that were more sympathetic to aboriginal shildrens needs than it was to whites.
PROVEN TRUTH. Pity for the nasty anti white western democracy lefties brainwashing our kids in schools that wanted so badly to hate white society and find fault.
They have tried to prove this in the courts many times.
NOT ONE CASE HAS BEEN PROVEN.
SuperPoyda 1 year ago
Some say the "stolen generation" was never actually stolen. They were willingly handed over by mothers who could not provide the best for their children. Yet, others see it as the "white man" trying to push the "dead" aboriginal culture out of the children. Most of the children that where actually taken where "halfe cast" (half white/half aboriginal).

@Logicbeatslies
You'd be safe with Stalin, no logic in your post.
thysweetlove 1 year ago
@thysweetlove It's a matter of damned if you do, and damned if you don't. If you cared to read into the matter and keep everything in context, you'd know that aboriginals had to be treated different because they lived completely different lives. They didn't interact with modern city ways, (still don't) as they needed to live their indigenous lifestyle.
What the hell has Stalin got to do with anything? You've worked yourself up in a sate of fear and everything is cloudy, so bad you misrepresent.
Logicbeatslies 1 year ago
@thysweetlove What happens if you treat the aboriginals as the same = stolen generation. If you treat them differently you get compared with Hitler. What a crock. So you don;'t want a resolution, just to see white people suffer. You make it impossible when you dictate that all actions of non-aboriginals must be damned.
So which is it?
1. Same laws for aboriginal as white people = stolen generation
2. special laws that take their needs into account = intervention
3. No interaction = genocide

Right there - day one - was the beginning of the attempted genocide of a peaceful race. Thankfully this goal was never (and never will be) achieved.
thysweetlove 1 year ago
@thysweetlove I don't for a second believe there was an attempted genocide. If you haven't noticed aboriginals are nice people. There was a serious outcry of grief when people realised that the aboriginal people wouldn't survive. It's why you're here talking to now.
It may surprise you (and shame you) but indigenous people have never survived the impact of modern man. The UK certainly didn't want to see you go and the governors (most) were proactive about your survival.
These were hard times.
Logicbeatslies 1 year ago
@Logicbeatslies
I think we want the same thing, for everyone to have a 'fair go', regardless of their origin.
I like what you said about the Aboriginal stock workers being exceptional, but needing to go 'walkabout'. You have hit the nail on the head. This is the problem they face, they are between cultures. The answer is not to turn them away because they'll 'go walkabout', the answer may be, 'Here's a job, cos your good at it, but next time you go walkabout, can I come too!'
thysweetlove 1 year ago
@thysweetlove I like where you're coming from but the problem with adapting to aboriginal culture is that we are trained to be productive. We are in a position where we must compete on an international level. We have to refine our methods of production to maximise output. People have to work 50 hour weeks etc...
I can definitely see the flaw in my analysis, but that's the mentality. It's really hard to give up.
Logicbeatslies 1 year ago
"William Dampier, the first English 'navigator' to discover Australia; shot dead an aborigine as he came ashore." (Sydney Morning Herald - July 23rd 1988).
thysweetlove 1 year ago
@thysweetlove The early settlers were instructed to make friends with the natives. They actually tried. It was when aboriginals started dying from common diseases like the cold thing got bad. I know that aboriginals were systematically rough handled. It started slow but farmers wanted more and were totally insensitive. My forebears are part of that, so it's clear to me.
You may underestimate the connection. Not all settlers wanted the British way. Aboriginal life was a preference to many men.
Logicbeatslies 1 year ago
2. ...'take THEIR needs into account.' - The Kinchella Home for Aboriginal Boys. Taking THEIR needs into account!
thysweetlove 1 year ago
@thysweetlove2. That's just sad. I'm sorry but the only experience I've had with aboriginal livestock handles is that they are exceptionally good but they are prone to go 'walkabout'. The farmers will hire them because they are so good, but they wont get far because they are totally unreliable.
I want you to put this in your mind to understand the current state of things. It seems a backward step to focus on isolated past incidents and not see the bigger picture, up until the current state.

I worked in the Aboriginal Industry for many years and people would not believe or allow me to voice what I saw becuase it was true/racist.
These actions actually kept many kids alive.

Superssam87 1 year ago
Herald Sun - Nothing stolen except our brains.

You need to put this into perspective
-Aboriginal foster generation exceeds Stolen Generations- The Australian.
'The total suggests that about one in six Aboriginal children is now a ward of the state'
At the moment their are more aboriginal children being removed from their families than the stolen generation. Generally for the same reasons. Sad but true..... Neglect. The right thing to do would be the removal of alcohol and damaging influences. But that would be racist.
1ceman1988 1 year ago
@bbgurl22ful You're a naive racist moron; read my other comment which explains everything. Also, there have been at least two supreme court test trials which found there to be no evidence of any policy of forced removal for racist reasons. Also, what was wrong with white people? You mean what was wrong with everybody. Pretty much everywhere in the world @ that time had racism, directed universally. You of course ignore this, and continue to perpetuate a myth which will only create division.

I suggest those who are interested read Keith Windshuffle's article in the Weekend Australian. See Inquirer section p6. Entitled "The Myths of Stolen Generations". He has gone and searched the archives presenting facts, which has seemed to go by the wayside in this politically charged issue.
Starwithnoname 2 years ago
The "ABO" word: In 1938 aboriginal activist Jack Patten started the first indigenous newspaper in Australia.
"The Australian Abo Call".... Yes.........., ABO Call. The newspaper was funded by a white man, W.B.Miles, who was a well known Nazi sympathizer. The word ABO was certainly NOT a white-racist inspired term to degrade aboriginals.
The voice of the Aborigines.
armalite762 2 years ago
The director of the SBS series " The First Australians" Rachel Perkins had told of her father Charles Perkins being one of the two famous "stolen Children". The other being Lowitja O'Donohue, who later confessed that in fact she had NOT been stolen but been abandoned. Charles Perkins turned out NOT to have been stolen either, and his mother in fact begged a Christian boarding school to take the brightest of her children to give him a future.
armalite762 2 years ago
What would you know of what happened to Aboriginal people when they had no rights to even enter the town they were born in without an exemption notice even after they had fought for the country? If you are going to critisise, then do some research
dougtay65 2 years ago
dougtay : My comment was to draw attention to the sometimes distorted "facts" regarding the white invasion / stolen generation in the SBS program. No dole there.
armalite762 2 years ago
Point taken; distortion of facts are the key words, there was definitely laws of the past that served to discriminate against a section of the Australian community but this seems to have been lost through an education system that taught nothing to the general Australian public of past events of Australian history! By the way, Aboriginals are not the only one's recieving the dole in this country
dougtay65 2 years ago
Intent was not to single out aboriginals as being the only dole recipients, but just wanted to point out that all Australians today are better off because of the "white Invasion" rather than an "Asian invasion". I say that because I have lived in Asia and there is no safety net or medical benefits for people who dont have the means to pay for it. This is still the "Lucky Country" in comparison to what is happenning to minorities in other countries.
armalite762 2 years ago
I think you are wasting your time trying to present facts in this issue. There is much to be gained in distorting the facts to paint the worst picture possible. Anyone questioning the validity of stated "facts" is immediately painted as a racist red neck. This is an attempt to silence those who may have genuine empathy but merely want to uncover the truth of the matter.

Starwithnoname - No doubt you didn't watch Message Stick a couple of weeks ago - their 10 yr anniversary on ABC.
