Excellent playing but too close to the original for my tastes. What's the point of re-playing a tune note for note on stage ? Deep Purople themselves would never do that.
@guillll Why play Highway Star in it's original, quintessential, iconic form? Because it is deeply satisfying, and has never been improved upon, IMO. I put this side project together to pay homage to the music that made me want to be a musician, not to give me something to jam over. Of course Deep Purple could play it differently every night, they're Deep Purple and it's their song! The challenge I set myself and my band was to get close...you say 'too close.' I say, thanks! Cheers, Geoff.
@wahwahwells Well said, If you cover music - nail it. This rendition is easily in my "best cover EVER" top few. You're not only nailing the music - you getting real close to the tones of the original. I'll be subscribing.
The playing is killer, but I think someone has underestimated the singing here....
I think the singer is as good as you'll EVER hear for what this song demands and he's doing it live. I think Ian Gillan would be pleased and impressed.
Geoff and the other players take no prisoners and wouldn't carry passengers. He's in good company because he's damn good.
probably the best live cover of highway star by a pub band. vocals o.k,organ solo good and that guitarist was excellent. liked the fact he played the lead break without having to watch every note he was playing. oh and im turning 40 next year might be looking for some blokes who can play some shit-hot tunes for the party. wondering if they know some Rainbow,Thorpie and our own guitar GOD Lobby Loyde?
There's nothing wrong with pub bands but I think you'll find these guys individually (who were only in this incarnation for a short time when this was filmed by the way) are a little beyond pub band status! They are professional players with our industry's best and make a very nice living doing so.
no offence intended when i called them a pub band.i'd never heard of them before and am a biggg Deep Purple fan.i did actually coment on another clip(mistreated)that blindfolded you would have thought it was Ritchie Blackmore.i'd wanted to see a band who could do more than Smoke on the water or Black Night but because i live in a small country victorian town i didnt know of their existance.they Rocked
good job guys!

@wahwahwells If your goal was to recreate the original, you got it indeed. The recreation is truly astonishing. No offense was intended.
