  • batteries dont have a ground.

  • I'm enthralled (& that's for real); subject came alive

  • cool

  • i will not watched this video by reading comment

  • your trying to hard

  • what happens if your measuring a single led and want to know its resistance value but it does not show up on any scale at all.and the one it does show up on it just keeps climbing sequentially? but it shows some value that the LED couldnt possiably be..like 300.1 ohms..

  • NOOOOOOOOOOO! the more i watch this the more i turn into 1 of those nerds :(

  • come here to invite you visit our ST-10 Multi-function test tweezer it can connect to Multimeter.

ST-10 SHANPU new product multi-function test tweezer

the tweezer can switch LED on, mechanical conductive test or connect to multimeter please visit us at youtube "LedSwitches"

  • holy crap! how can you do a video on multimeters without actually showing the multimeter????

  • Wish bill nye would have covered this

  • Any info on where I can find the mouser electric guitar riff in the ad?

  • this is so good for my class.. thank you sooo much!!

  • how tp

  • Afrotechmods' Multimeter Tut is much better

  • Show the meter and get a higher quality video.BOOO

  • was this recorded using a multimeter ???

i think its like 1 pixel

  • @Mr1Frontline lol

  • Great video!

  • I THINK ONLY THE PERSON STANDING NEXT TO JOE UNDERSTOOD EVERYTHING.they are not teaching to us but to each other ,by the way who is the third person in the video in the beginning???

  • Comment removed

  • Does the multimeter has a battery inside for functioning?

  • i actually thought it was quite useful

  • when they show it is a different meter.

  • SHOW THE DAMN METER!!!!!! AAAYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!

  • life is too short to watch all this!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks guys. This was helpful.

  • This should be a Radio lesson. Show us the damn thing!

  • Thanks guys...but this is just too painful to finish watching.

  • Rubbish. Basic teaching = Monkey see monkey do. You didn't show us anything.

Re video quality did you record this with a potato?

  • Check out everyguide.co.uk for every guide imaginable

  • the keeps asking the questions that the other guy answered already. lol.

  • I've seen two different multimeters in this video. (three counting the RCA VoltOhmyst on that guys shoulder at 1:30) The one on the bench with the orange protective case is a Extech, the other one that's randomly shown is a Fluke. Not sure what's up with that. Video could be better, a lot better.

  • They managed to turn an interesting subject in to a boring sleep inducing lesson

  • sry but i find this rilly rilly boring hahahahaha

  • im forced to watch this because its a part of my class work

  • @9fan5 lmao same here

  • why do u use fluke.... is it case u have rich parents and dont mind burning money on show off brand stuff. Oh, uuu have a FLUKE,,, cooool :)) Funny video btw!

  • Heyy! thats Joe from Prototype this! love that show

  • Dumbos show the voltmeter.

  • gas safe heating services.co.uk

  • Thanks for making this really basic concept available without talking down to us.

  • The worst video on this topic ever seen... literally I can't see anything like Nob or meter etc just two dummies talking to each other or maybe talking to some extraterrestrials :)

  • what a useless video

  • It Joe Grand the guy on Prototype This???Its one of my fav TV shows!

  • i thought it was helpfull

  • How come these nerds are not showing multi meter itself?

  • @sidnamshe1 lol

  • Awesome stuff guys, keep it up.

  • this is bad for makemagazime

  • You are retarded!!! first you repeat your self again and again talking about the same shalow things and you dont show us anything... not even wtf you are dialing on the meter... noobs!

  • Not Helpful Oo I need to learn how to use a multimeter and voltage sources to connect a Circuit right a way I HAVE EXAMS !! any help??

  • put the probes in different spots lol thats what she said

  • I agree, I've never used a multimeter so I would love to know what the dial settings he's using. Sure, I'll lean it one way or another but it would be nice to have better instruction.

  • Fuck you DHL!

  • hi there, could u pls make vid in HD 720px plz?

  • How To Use A Multimeter ?

Just shove it up your corn hole.

  • this video blows. 9:56 long, so much talking, so little SHOWING and teaching and learning.

  • too simple....please do other measurement. hfe to test transistor....determine npn or pnp....transistor condition....diode test....

  • Gay. Do you think were mind readers.

  • Very poor indeed. Why bother?

  • Mul-tie meters

  • The given value of a resistor is indeed not accurate, but if you measure it with your multimeter it is also not accurate, maybe even less accurate, because there's an internal resistance in your multimeter ;)

Also, NEVER measure resistance while the power is on the measurement ;)

  • now i know

  • You have to plug in the probes depending on what you want to measure.

    For example:

If you want to measure Voltage, Resistance, Diod, Connectivity you want to put the positive probe in the "hole" with a Volt, Ohm, Diode symbol on it.

And the negative probe should always be in the "COM" port.

And then when you want to measure amperage you switch to positive to amperage measurements (Which is occasionally seperated into small amperages and big amperages.

It may be different on other multimeters.

  • YOU GUYS ARE NUTS--THIS IS A REALLY GOOD VIDEO!!

  • YOU GUYS ARE NUTS---THIS IS A REALLY GOOD VIDEO!!

  • @ekeomajake Sorry, but this video is terrible... Like really really bad, lortrek and hburff pointed out some valid, obvious and more importantly crucial points.

  • Thanks guys. I used this video to find the break in the AC adapter cable and now I've fixed it.

  • what brand is that multimeter? and whats the cheapest I can find one with all those functions?

  • TEL ME HOW TO TURN THE METER

  • @mrjrscientist Continuity mode looks like " =|>+"

  • u guys are jerk offs DIAL?????

  • It turned off on you because its a $3 multimeter. Throw that away and get a real multimeter like the yellow Fluke shown.

  • yr fucking cheeky buck u yank twat

  • Boring.......lil bit helpful.Not up to expects.

  • Nice CASIO VL-1 beat on the intro. Brings back memories.

    What is that Bosanova?

  • Could have done some examples and show what settings to turn the dial to for typical measurements.

The youngsters don't know the color code.

The way we remembered it in trade school was:

Bad Boys Rape Our Young Girls, But Violet Goes Willingly.

Black Blue Orange Yellow Green Blue Violet Gold White

We used to say it 'Black Boys' but I guess they PC'd it lately.

Hey, I didn't make it up...Don't blame me. I'm not a racist except at the drag strip!

  • ya they didnt even show or explain the multi meter switch and what is what so why was this video made abotu multimeters

  • Useful info, thanks guys! But uh, tell those chatty bitches in the background toward the end of the vid to STFU! Do bitches ever shut up???

  • Helpful and helped clear up a couple of things I was trying to figure out but yeah as others have said, if someone doesn't know how to use a multimeter, they are obviously don't know a lot of the things you are talking about.

  • lol hes learning how to use it by himself XD, lol its easy to use and very simple, BUT, you must know how to connect properly or ul burn a fuse inside which is expensive to switch.

the moron doesnt show the dial, how to switch it, any formulas, he just tries to advertise the multimeter without teaching you the proper use, whatever he explains even a 6yo kid can do

  • Comment removed

  • This two guys are not a help new people!

And this is from elite (uber or leet) hacker

  • USELESS

  • you two guys look like stephen and fez off of that 70's show we you stand back about 10 feet. :D

  • Comment removed

  • wack!

  • One more thing if your multi-meter can test "tempreture" thumb's up this comment if not then down it, as i have had and used rather a lot of these but never had a tempreture setting, where would i shove the probes?

  • @iswindowsavirus not all multimeters come with that function. and btw isn't that shown as symbols on the multimeter itself?

  • Helpful for beginners but the attempts at humor are pretty bad....

  • Show us all the scale etc.

  • This vid is not good.

he doesn't explain ground to test continuity or where to touch probes.

    worthless video. Just like MAKE.

  • REMOVE THIS VIDEO! YOUR VIEWCOUNT IS NOTHING BUT THE NUMBER OF UNSATISFIED PEOPLE!

  • i want to know what the picture on the dial means.... you guys missed the basics

  • GAY!

  • this is not for new people, more like review for somebody that didnt listen during phy-nyb labs and is preparing for the lab test XD

  • the guy hosting this is he a dick or is it me ?

  • Title Redux Bomb: In this video Bre Pettis acts uber gay while Joe Grand teaches you how to use a multimeter, EXTREMLY vaguely!

  • Comment removed

  • @TheError404 then how come you are looking at a how to video?

  • @TheError404 i taught myself how to solder and use a multimeter when i was 5

  • @TheError404 i taught myself how to be an electrical engineer when i was 3.

  • @TheError404 Maybe you should have paid equal attention to spelling. Its 'taught'.

  • @TheError404 shame you didn't learn spelling

  • @TheError404 how about self teaching spelling : taught not tought.

  • @TheError404 bull shit lier

  • this was not very helpful

  • the only thing anybody needs to know is the dial settings for different apps, which of course the geeks fail to show!

  • 3:21 Measuring resistance, 'cool'

    Twat

  • Mine has 19 functions and 3 sockets :S

  • FAILED!

  • garbage video

  • Dude, your multimeter has 9 settings on the dial and 3 plugs. mine has 32 settings and 4 plugs.

I have no Idea how to set mine or what plugs to use for anything. My instructions are in chinese ffs

  • you didn't even show the meter...what the heck!!! No hel...wasted my time!!!!!!!!

  • amazingly useful Thank you so much

  • thanx!! twill help me 4 ma viva 2morrow!!!!!!!

  • Good Video...thanks

  • GRATE VID A++++++

  • Please get a better camera.

  • some people commenting are distracted if they are "doing it", you people need freezing cold showers!!

  • I think they do it to each other! :O)~~

  • the dude in black is a real fag

  • hd+zoom ftw

  • good video...anyone know cars help me then hey can anyone that knows cars help? check out my video and see if youcan diagnose my rear end problem pretty please

  • they look like they've probed each others sockets recently

  • lmao

  • @theevindave wow thats the best geek comment i've heard on youtube so far

  • @theevindave they soon gone probe other stuff...

  • @theevindave LMAO

  • @theevindave

Now thats just flat out funny LOL!

  • You guys got to SHOW THE meter settings for each "test" you are performing!! Come on...how can you go through this entire effort to make this video and then NOT do a closeup on where you set the meter for each test. (AC/DC/Ohm...etc)

  • True

  • Does anyone know of a better video for beginners that Does show basic settings, etc? Thanks!

  • I learned nothing not once did you show what settings to use

  • ANON does not approve.

    Fail.

  • This video is full of Suck. Does not show "How to use a Mulitmeter"

  • This is supposed to show me how to use a multimeter, ok, so which hole to I put the black led into, which hole to I put the red, which setting do I have to put it on I DO NOT SEE ANY OF THAT HERE!!!!!

  • is this is a joke?

  • I'm sorry but this is a poor video on how to use something. The title is misleading and it's too bad that you have almost 300k views. And Booo to YouTube for putting this video first on the list when searching for "how to use a multimeter" 1 star for Poor..

  • You've got to kidding me. you don't even show us what the dial looks like. Wow, you think your talking to engineers, where do you plug the probes in, what are the indicator point on the dial? not helpful

  • I agree. The title wasn't How do Engineers use a Multi-Meter. They didn't show any dials or where to plug in the leads. very poor video for noobs.

  • @hburff though I agree they could and should show more closer look at ht eMM itself, but if you want to start using this tool, you have to learn symbols and their meanings. You have to learn what symbol is assigned to Voltage, Amperes, Watts, Ohms and what do every of this unit mean. Like, ohms are for resistance and so on. Use teh Internetz to get all that ;)

  • @hburff So, what's being shown from 1:09 to 1:10?!

  • @hburff So, what's being shown from 1:08 to 1:10?!

  • Guys..... What we the dumb guys like to know is how to turn the knob, where to put it for what test. Please remake this video.

  • Here is a summary before you burn another 9 minutes of your bandwidth and zeus kills a kitten in another universe:

    1. multimers are yellow things with pointy things coming out and

    2. "resistors resist" WTF!

As far as how to hook one up, what dial settings mean etc. FUGGETABOUTIT!!!

DO NOT repeat DO NOT waste your time on this video!

    Complete waste of time ...

PS. And to think "Resistor Resist" guy is the founder of maker bot 3d printing project.

  • man calm down...if u do better, than make a own video

  • man i don't even know how to hook up the cables... that's why I clicked on a video titled "How to use a multimeter"..

8.5 minutes of a grainy video of two guys standing around a multimeter turning a dial is _NOT_ a "howto" video.

False advertising... is all I'm saying.

  • give me ur email, i will send you an excellent book about electronics that is made by allaboutcircuits

  • How much a resistor is resisting? This video is a joke..

  • I agree with lotrek this video is usless unless you show the multimeter settings.....common.....!!!!!!!

  • Is joe the same One from prototype this??

  • nice work keep on

  • very helpfull thanks guys keep up the good work.

    Steve

  • The guy on the left has no idea what's going on.

These guys covered the very basics. That's it.

  • a couple of minutes into watching the video was enough to assess that it's clearly pathetic; for example, on the initial simple continuity test, he didn't show how to attach the probes to the meter, nor show the symbol for continuity on the multimeter, nor any closeup shots showing the setting, nor the numerical readings for continuity, or its absence

i could see the next piece was going to be similarly pathetic; try again dudes !

the introductory cartoon was smug and irrelevant for your viewers

  • hit nail on the head

  • cool , thanks for the tips .. doing a self taught crash course in electronics right now. Will be getting a multimeter soon!

  • I as well am doing a self taught course in electronics. I have one of those 300 in one kits where you hook wires up to the springs and make different circuits but this one is more advanced and has a bread board and comes with hundreds of resistors, capacitors, diodes and gates or some type of processors or something like that. Like I said I am still learning.

Do you have your mind set on a particular project to complete?

  • cantevensee

  • Para voces que nao entendem ingles , nao se preocupem voces nao perderam nada , o cara so ensina para este babaca de oculos que so faz perguntas idiotas . Querem aprender como usar o voltimetro? Assista os videos : Multicoisasfranquias, 1/2 e 2/2 . Abracos . Adrylena , USA .

  • Good information, I learned that current flows through the meter to measure it. Thanks for that, I will know how careful I need to be.

  • There's GOTTA be somin' better than this.STFU allready bout resistors!

  • no shit how do i use this fuckin thing....simple english wheres that video at???

  • I feel like pulling out my eyes and ripping off my ears with these clowns...are they trying to be "cool" or instructional? They fail at both and I got moded for watching.

  • I agree this is not a good video for learning how to use a multimeter, maybe an introduction to the multimeter but not the best teaching video

    look up

"Multimeter Tutorial - Solar Schoolhouse" for a much better and more coherent instruction video

The information here could have been way better organized, but take what you can from it

  • Fluke Multimeters are the best.

  • i think i want one now
