  • Thumbs up to whoever created the theme song. Hearing it gave me a certain feeling also :)

Ahhh, memories of being a child

  • This theme song resonates with in me!

  • Thumbs up for Andy Kaufman.

  • why is this tune my life? why? why do I love this so much?

  • Thumbs up if you used to watch this on Nick at Nite back in the 90s.

  • Just. Beautiful.

  • One of my favourite television comedies. I'll always love it.

  • Sounds like a good tune to take a nice Sunday drive...

  • @SadiSays I feel the same way..Anything from the 80;s and 90;s give me a warm cozy feeling of nostalgia......

  • cab fare.... souls of mischief

  • "Are you telling me you built a time machine out of a DeLorean?" how ever i did enjoy watching Taxi on Nick at night as a kid

  • a guy at work told me Latka was 'foreign language guy

  • I remember when this used to come on nick at nite in the 90's and they said that they had to play the footage in a loop because the bridge was so short. It's so obvious now.

  • I love this theme, nostalgic feeling.

  • awesome!

  • probably one of the smoothest themes in television

  • such a great show and the theme music was soothing but always depressed me as a child. I loved this show though

  • @TheScorpio4lyfe I could not agree more. Lots of these TV themes were depressing.

  • This and the Cheers themes are my favourites. Great stuff

  • Great, groovy theme song

  • this song always plays on the jazz radio station

  • Souls of Mischief - Cab Fare ;)

  • every time I see a NYC taxi, I think of this song!!

  • I used to get kicks by playing this song over some hardcore porno. You would not eblieve how hard you would laugh at a girl getting railed.

  • DeVito: IF YOU MISS WORK FOR TWO DAYS ONE MORE TIME! YOU'RE FIRED!!!!!!

Judd: Aw, give the guy a break, he just got married.

DeVito (sweet voice and a huge smile): Oh, if you miss work for two days one more time, you're fired.

  • freakin AIDS ruined everything, man...

  • wow i remember this after mad tv in the morning i miss this show great music

  • This by far the greatest theme show in television history... It's a masterpiece!!!

  • Sounds like Porn Music

  • Taxi was filmed infront of a live stadium audience

  • @idiotjay Cheers was also film in a live audience

  • @americanidol434 I think you've missed the joke...

  • @MccMovieMaker Christopher Lloyd was only in one episode in the first season. He was so great with his character of Rev. Jim Ignatowski the creators made him a regular at the start of the second season (starting with the classic "yellow light" bit).

  • who is Randall Carver?

  • @nuwavevidspud Randall Carver was only on during Season One as cab driver John Burns. He was written out after several episodes. In one episode he elopes with his girlfriend Suzanne. In another he wrecks the fleet's oldest taxicab, his last appearance on the show.

  • @Jannghi Thank you for the information.

  • I never got into this show...Then I got a job drivin' cab and I liked it lol

  • Such a wonderful theme song and a great show. Brings back memories, all of them good. Can't say that about many things.

  • One of the 2 best theme songs of a comedy show (the other one 'M.A.S.H').

    Makes me feel melancholic.

  • How come the soft music? It's not a show about elevators.

  • love it where's the back to the future proff in the credits?

  • RIP Jeff and Andy . . . Great show ! Otherwise known as "Angela's theme"

  • I miss this show!

  • Music reminds me of Vinnie's Pizza.

  • Ok, I just cried!

  • Hearing this song reminds me of a simplier time. My dad had this record and would play it every so often I really miss those days.

  • You can't top these old shows. All of these modern tv shows are garbage in comparison.

  • @RetroJenny Agree... 100%!

  • Wow just read a comment that sums up my post too....I used to watch this waiting for my mamaw to come home from work. I miss her spook much!!

  • like those funny chords!

  • THE BEST SHOW EVER !!!! DANNY DEVITO,Christopher LLOYD, & ANDY KAUFMAN ! ALL IN ONE SHOW!! GREAT WRITING !!!

  • i always hated this show cos it came on rite after heman and she ra , and i knew once this show started that all my afternoon cartoons were over i had to start my homework

  • andy kaufman :)

  • Man, whenever I hear this song I feel like i'm five or six years old again....

  • Whenever I hear this song, it is so soothing... brings back memories of being 8-12 years old, sitting in the living room with my family. They sure don't make sitcoms like this anymore.

  • am i the only that associates bed time with this theme. without checking, I just know Taxi came on at 9:30 or possibly 10pm and it was bed time for me. I will always, forever, be overcome with sleepyness when i hear this ultra-cool theme song.

  • @chets808

No, you are not. Part of growing up in the 90's was listening to this then heading to bed before the parents got on our cases...

  • one of my favorite sitcoms - stellar cast!

  • God 70s and 80s had the best sitcoms: Taxi, Cosby Show, Cheers, Family Ties, Alice, Night Court, the list goes on forever!

  • @dmd185 We should all just kill ourselves and be done with it!

  • My favorite classic tv theme...My favorite old shows besides Taxi: Three's Company, Good Times, Sanford and Son, and Welcome Back Kotter.

  • Today's tv stinks. Other then NCIS there really isn't anything on like back in the 70' and early 80's. Listening to these song brings back all those great times.Guess I'll keep tune to the oldies channels, you tube and other place to enjoy some of the best tv ever.

  • This is a classic.... I wonder what ever happened to Bob James... If yall don't know who he is, he is the artist that did the song for the t.v series taxi...

  • does the song just start like that? all the ones i found are like cut and start late

  • i'm 22 and i remember watching this with my grandpa on nick at nite and god i miss those memories! i love lucy, taxi, the munsters, welcome back kotter, night court i could do on and on. i do agree, all in todays world on television is SHIT. kinda ashamed of my generation. sorry you guys, i didn't do it.

  • so sad to hear about jeff conaway..suxh a wonderful show ..i wish we could go back to these wonderful days when things were just a bit simpler ..it seems as though the world of technology and money has turned us into a greedy uncaring society....lousy television is also present today and if that isnt bad enough the top of the music charts is filled with such shit i cant believe my ears...

  • God Bless Jeff Conaway. Rest in Peace Dear Friend.

  • RIP Jeff Conaway

  • RIP Andy Kauffman

  • RIP Bobby Wheeler

  • R.I.P. Jeff Conaway.

this show made you what you are.

  • RIP Jeff Conaway....Thanks for the Memories!

  • @cowboybill63 ..who was Jeff Conanway? which character did her play

  • @TheScorpio4lyfe he played the role of bobby the cabbie trying to be an actor.

  • @anna2k2 ..Oh yes, now I remember him...thanks!

  • @anna2k2 ..I remember watching this as a kid in the 80s and even though it was meant for adults, I remember understanding all of their jokes and scenes..they just dont make tv shows like this anymore.

  • @cowboybill63 And Andy Kaufman..... ssssshhh

  • God bless Jeff Conaway and his family

  • Where did thirty years go?

  • @8woldy8 That's a question I ask virtually every day. seems like yesterday I was watching MASH and family ties.

  • What creative genius we had back then in film, tv, music, the production, the casting, the acting, and most importantly the writting. Now we have a new series come out every other week, and still one cannot connect to the storyline (because it's garbage), the characters (one dimensional and boring), the new breed of writers, directors, production and actors are all a bunch of disconnected apes, they have no fucking clue, it's all over the top sensationalism, and visual masturbation

  • This was when TV was worth watching! TV died at the turn of the century.

  • Although this show was a comedy, this song was more of a sad tune. Still a classic theme though. Brings back memories.

  • thats so sick that Souls Of Mischief sampled this. very good choice for a beat.

  • So pretty. So, so pretty. The flute and the Fender Rhodes on this tune are just lovely. It captures the sound of soul and world-weary beauty as it courses in the veins.

  • I seem to remember this being shown in the UK during the early to mid 80's, I always loved that theme tune!

  • 21 people miss their taxi

  • The fall TV season of 1978 was a good one for new sitcoms, that year

we got Mork and Mindy, Taxi and WKRP in Cincinnati.

  • Fun fact: The Brooklyn Bridge wasn't actually long enough to go through the entire song, so they had to loop one section of it over and over.

  • @xxoxia

    That's the Queensboro Bridge

  • @thatmuse76 - Yes, that's what I meant. Not Brooklyn.

  • @thatmuse76 Now officially known as the Ed Kotch Queensboro Bridge

  • The theme tune of broken dreams, dashed hopes, forlorn hope and hopeless optimism. It just sums TAXI up so succintly.

  • My favorite theme song...always put me 2 sleep as a kid.

  • The theme song as a kid made me feel so depressed while made me feel so relaxed at the same times. These were some good ole days...

  • Awwww, this song is called "Angela", I love sharing my name with this song. What's so cool is that I'd been listening to this intro since I was very little, (then changing the channel because I only liked the intro) and only recently finding out I shared a name with it hehe. :3

  • @lynnvryett - You didn't actually like this show???!?!!? This was a GREAT show!

  • My absolute favorite theme song of all time!

  • Man, I really miss the old 70's and 80's TV show. TV and music today blow!

  • this show had the most boringest theme EVER!!! next to mash there themes would make me want to go to sleep

  • When I hear this theme music I get goosebumps and my hair stands on end.

  • @saukrates420 yea me too....why is that.. i get those weird goosebumps listening to welcome back kotter and wkrp!

  • @saukrates420 I know exactly what you mean!!! The MAGIC of the late 70's and early 80's!

  • @saukrates420 I can say at my age of 45 i lived a beautifull time period of the 70 and 80's

  • @amcstudio30 Yes I am close to that i agree

  • @saukrates420

Yeah I get the same reaction. I was very young when this was on TV and I knew it was time for bed when I heard this theme tune, as my parents would send me to bed

  • @scorpioladful

That is so weird. I just posted on facebook about remembering laying in bed while my mom and grandma watched the show in the other room. For some strange reason, this theme song made me feel good, safe and warm. I miss the 80's with my mom and grandma, may they both RIP...

  • @SadiSays I feel the same when I listen to this melody

  • @SadiSays That's really nice. I have the same memory of lying in bed while my parents watched this.

  • @SadiSays

yes. this is exactly how i feel. safe and warm.

  • @SadiSays That is the same feeling I have....I can listen to it and just remember the very moment, the smell and everything. Wish I was a kid again!

  • BEST TV SHOW EVER MADE

  • C.L.A.S.S.I.C.!!!!!!! THIS WILL DIE WITH ME

  • C.LA.S.S.I.C.THUMB ME UP MOTHERFUCKERS :)

  • Hahaha I remember this!

  • im 26 but i grew up watchin this,i was this little portuguese kid and i imagined thats what ny looked like and when i went there it was a little different..hehe,it wasnt the 70s anymore

  • Talk about a great show what a start up vehicle for Danny DeVito! This was when TV was really MUST SEE TV!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I absolutely ADORE this theme tune.....a great smooth groove!!!!!!!!

Ahhhhhh!! memories flood right in of growing up in the 70's.

  • i miss these days so much...i took my childhood for granted.

being born in the early '70's, growing up as a kid in the late '70's into the 80's was the best of times. it really was, we had the best tv shows, and the best music.

Our parents are the Baby Boomers, The Hippies, The Disco/Club goers...

and us Flower Children, really had the best of times. i miss it alot.

  • i miss the 70 and 80´s that was the best time for movie´s,tv serie´s and most off all the sex drugs, alcohol and music ha ha.

  • You can't really see them here, but if you have Taxi on DVD and you pause it at the end of the intro, you can briefly see the Twin Towers at the very left of the screen.

  • @ashland1977 hahah yeap...

  • Jim: Hey Alex, what does a yellow triangle mean? Alex: Slow down. Jim: Ok, what - does- a - yellow - triangle - m-e-a-n-e?

  • people used to call me alex reeger in high school...because of my hair and eyebrows LOL

  • this song is so soothing...

  • @denverkong12 It really is. brings back good memories

  • This song always reminded me of of waking up miserable after a night of cocaine and whoring.

  • @pardyhardly thats good

  • @pardyhardly - too damn funny

  • A shame about Andy, though. One of the most enigmatic comedic geniuses left us too early.

  • @johnsesame28 thats awesome, but what about Mary Ann?

  • Marilu Henner gave hardons.

  • Everything about this series made me feel that the world was an ok place, from the beautiful theme song, to the principle characters who refused to be "bought", we could use a show like this right now...

  • This always reminds me of my youth before me father's death in `78. Shows like this and Good Times, Maude, Carol Burnett and freinds always make me feel a little bittersweet. But it is an excellent piece of music, though.

  • If you watch the opening to Taxi, you will see it was shot twice because the Queensboro bridge is too short to get all the credits in.

  • Fun fact - You may notice a footage skip at 00:24 and 00:33. That's because the footage (and in turn the bridge) was not long enough for the title sequence. So they reused some of the same exact footage, in a sense 'looping it,' to get it to extend to the proper length they needed.

  • Comment removed

  • I read some Taxi trivia that said Tony Danza actually was the one driving the taxi across the bridge in the opening sequence, because he was in New York to film some scenes for the first season finale, they rented a taxi and filmed him driving across the bridge

  • show NOT shop!

  • a haunting and lovely theme. the shop was touched by sadness, because it depicted people who were only driving a taxi untill they got their breaks in life. a break that never came...

  • It kind of stirs sadness up inside me. I don`t know why. It just seems sad. All the cars passing by..probably all rotting away in junkyards now. Makes me wonder about the people in those cars and the people that tuned in to this show when it was on TV. Maybe its the song? It sounds like the guy who composed it had the thought of somebody leaving his home and never coming back.

  • dont know it makes me sad

  • MASH, TAXI, WKRP, Night Court, Cheers, Welcome Back Kotter and all of those great PI/Detective shows....I wish we could get rid of all those reality TV shows and go back to the shows from the 70's and 80's.

  • @bullsleafs Couldn't agree with you more!Add The Golden Girls & Rhoda to the list please...!

  • @bullsleafs I hear ya bro

  • @bullsleafs Hill Street Blues, Benson, Newhart, Cagney and Lacey, Barney Miller, Andy Griffith Show... I tell you. There is nothing much on TV that I watch in this new age. I rather go back 30 years...

  • @spaceplanepilot So would I. All of those shows were quality. The TAXI theme song always puts a tear in my eye. Such a great piece of music, and a great time of TV History.

  • @bullsleafs I remember creeping onto the top of my staircase and watching this after bed time. maybe 16 years ago, Paramount used to play this then Cheers. Best most uncomfortable entertainment ever

  • @bullsleafs the 70's and 80's was the golden age of television i guess now its the rust age or something

  • @bullsleafs

    Amen to your statement.

  • @bullsleafs AMEN!!! ;)

  • Here Here!

  • And some of the 90s shows were good too!

  • @bullsleafs with the original songs played on wkrp, too, dammit.

  • @bullsleafs I wish I could go back to the 80's PERIOD! Simply a better time than today.

  • @bullsleafs Don't forget Twin Peaks, Get Smart, and The Prisoner.

  • @bullsleafs Thumbs up brotha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wasnt Rhea Perlman on one epi?

  • @RubicsCubeProduction more than one!

  • and then slap on some Souls of Michief

  • Great tune. Classic cool, mellow 70's sound. Love it!

  • welcome home kotter and dukes of hazard ftw!!
