  • that elevator is fast. i like the fixtures. how do you go to the two floors above?

  • those things absolutely SUCK since modernization!! they were SO much better with otis touch buttons!!

  • @dieselducy They used to have touch buttons?

  • I bet its creepy up there at night when no one else is around.

  • @09011994 would feel the same had I been there at night

  • what if the cable snaps at the 93rd floor?

  • @XeanoProductions That won't happen - each of those cables can handle about 20 to 50 thousand pounds, depending on thickness. If they did, there is an extra governor cable that will activate the car's emergency brakes. In addition, if the power cable were cut, the car's brakes would engage since they're held open by electric motors.

  • @musicfreakcc I assume that would be the same for the Stratosphere Tower.

  • @XeanoProductions I swear I love Chicago..

  • I love that it has 2 doors.

  • I just went to the John Hancock Observatory about two weeks ago and I got to ride in the same elevator. Wehile you're going up can feel the pressure against your ears increase. One thing odd about these elevators is that they always seem to slightly move sideways. Why is that?

  • Iv'e been to Chicago and they redesgined the elevators but couldn't film due to crowdness and the voice (I think) is diffrent.

  • There are Double Elevator's at Abbott Northwestern Hospital where i worked at

they talk they have a female voice and one of the Elevator's Doors shut really hard like this one in this video i wish i had a video of it but i might try sometime if i go visit

  • When you got out of the elevator the doors shut offly hard why is that?

  • Question from a claustrophobic: How do you get someone out of a trapped elevator if it is in a 94 story tube with no other floor doors? Say it stops around the 47th floor. Then what? How do they get you out?

  • In that event, sometimes the elevator can be lifted or lowered manually. If one of the mechanical brakes on the car was triggered, an elevator mechanic would then go down from the top of the shaft with climbing gear to disable such brakes.

  • @beachlace, Im like you. Claustrophobic and terrified the elevator is going to get stuck.

  • i was there a few months ago on a field trip. going up you can feel the air getting thinner and your ears pop. and going down and talking simultaneously, you can feel the air getting heavier .really cool.

  • wow, i used to live in chicago and my dad worked in that building, yet i never new that there was anything special about them, i always thought the stabilizing architectural curve on the building was rather ugly

  • They changed some of the things. The Genral Admission elevator doors are blue, the background of the up and down lanterns are diffrent, and they changed the 94th floor button so its more redable.

  • what does that girl

  • this is outdated the new fasted elevator in north america is in the cn tower

  • Actually, this elevator is still much faster than the CN Tower.

  • Do you really need faster than this or even 50% less (10 mph)?

  • Because it's an express elevator that travels non-stop to the top, having it go faster means that they can improve their traffic flow.

  • @kingsley3870 CN tower's elevators are 15mph.

  • When I went there there was no voice in the elevator or anything.

  • Before of their destruction, did Twin Towers have the fastest elevators of North America?

  • No - the Hancock Center has held it since 1969.

  • the elevators in the World Trade Center were rather slow compared to the sears tower or even the Prudential Center in Boston

  • @alexrm82 yes they were also made by otis they had an elevator system called the skylobby where there were express elevators leading to certain floor like the subway and local elevators were located in each zone

  • if you count the antenas on the john hancock center it is taller than the sears towers roof

  • Yeah and the Sear's tower's antennae are much taller than the John Hancock's.

  • No, but it's close.

  • id love to jump out of that thing and yell, "WAAAAAAGHHH GET ME OFF!!!!!!!!"

    and watch their reactions.

  • It was a lot busier when I went up during the day, back in June '03.

  • Annoying 1:45

  • Annoying 1:45

  • Annoying 1:45

  • There is nothing worse than a bossy elevator.

  • were on the 94th floor everybody out

  • 1. Was the staff care about the filming?

    2. Did you say decellerating at 1:40?

    3. Was the observation deck not busy at nighttime?

  • 1. No

    2. Yes

    3. Yes

  • I don't think that recording was annoying enough XD

  • indicator was kinda dim

  • If I were riding this elevator with such annoying PA, I'd feel really scared. Did the PA scare you?

  • No.

  • By the way, is the TV in the lobby the floor indicator?
