  • This is really helpful - i bought a set the other day and look forward to trying them. Thanks

  • Are these strings made for guitars? Hows the tension?

i know that Jake breaks several ukuleles, due to his experimentation on high tension strings and ruff playing, seen him break a few myself.

His sponsorship allows him to experiment with the string tension worry free. Your ukulele is very nice be cautious on high tension guitar strings it could do some harm on the long road.

  • Thanks for the warning. Just because strings are made for guitar, doesn't mean they automatically have higher tension than uke strings. Infact, many uke strings are guitar strings. The Alliance strings were chosen by David Hurd of Kawika Ukuleles and he did extensive testing of the strings and approved them for his ukes. These strings are not for every uke, that is worth mentioning and I agree, higher tension strings can cause damage. Aloha!

  • Great info, def goin try these ones next. Thanks!

  • Great info, man. Thanks.

  • Thanks for the video... I'm going to give the strings a try on a concert. Out of curiosity, why do you recommend the higher tension variety for the reentrant G 4th string?

  • Aloha from Kailua, Will these strings work okay on a soprano or do I need to go thinner?

    Mahalo, Ahnko

  • I have them on a tenor and concert. I know they will work for soprano, just gotta make sure your soprano is glued and braced strong enough to handle the tension. If it was built for soft floppy strings, I would be cautious.

  • Thanx man, I checked this out when you replied to my topic on the UU forums, exactly the resource I was looking for to get a good idea about the string

  • Thank you for the information. Do you by any chance know where I can find the string tention on these strings when used on a uke? Don't want to damage my ukes. As I understand, because of the higher tension, the wave of the string is not as deep so we can lower the action just a touch and not get the buzz associated with really low action. Is this your experience? Thanks again.

  • I think you can find analysis of these strings in the website Ukuleles By Kawika, probably one of the most informative from a scientific point of view. David Hurd has done a tone of analysis on things like string tensions. Action can be lower with higher tension strings from my experience and no structural problems with my custom ukes.

  • I love Savarez strings and appreciate you efforts in reviewing them for others. I use the Alliance and play almost strictly low G tuning. Great balance and clarity.

  • Yes, they are good strings, my favorite by far!

  • excellent . I would like to tune my tenor DGBE. are these the right tension strings for this tuning

  • Thanks for the review! I haven't tried the alliance set but I've been using the red card Savarez set. They're a little bright so I use them on my soprano's to get a nice punch (the aquillas are too bright for me)

  • Great review! Could you post your guages here or up in the info box?

  • 541R .024

    542R .027

    543R .033

    541J .025

For low G, use a silver or bronze wound classical guitar D string.

  • Thanks! I know you give this info in the vid, but I thought it'd be great to have it written out for quick reference.

  • So for low g, would that be the 544R?

  • Yes, although I've never used the Savarez bass strings. I have used D'addario light silver plated wound strings. You need strings? PM me!

  • Beautiful Moore. Thanks for the review and demo.
