  • Did you record it with the phone in your ass ?

  • Dave and I think Chris have said that Chris was really into Marty's playing, just like Shawn was into Poland's style. That's why the have a similar vibe.

  • I dont think Marty was the best guitarrist Megadeth ever had...but was probably the most unique and memorable.Broderick is just another animal...too fkn good!!!

  • being able to play that well makes you more cool by 100. Having your guitar strung up like the Beatles loses coolness by around 60

  • I took a bunch of cocaine before writing this comment.

  • @Rectanglectum lmao

  • Honestly, if guitarists wanna learn to shred.

    Learn your Pentatonic Scale

90% of fucking classic rock, metal, and just any kind of soloing is based off that scale. Learn the scale up your whole neck, and then other scales are just based off that one. You add a few different notes to your pentatonic, you get blues scale, minor scale, harmonic minor scale and others. Best tip I can give as a guitarist. It's fkn gold.

    Pentatonic - Pentatonic - Pentatonic.

  • Close accept that the Pentatonic comes from the diatonic scale Ionian and Aeolian modes/scales not the other way around. And it's the Pentatonic "MINOR" scale not the Pentatonic which would mean the Major Pentatonic. So the one to learn would be "Pentatonic MINOR" all 5 positions.

  • Not bad for someone who doesn't have an ounce of theory.

    Least I was close, thanks.

  • Hey, no problem. Besides you know enough.

  • This man speaks the truth.

  • zakk wylde would be proud lol

  • @felphero Haha, good one, yep he would! But you learn the pentatonic as a base man. Zakk Wylde is a guy that just never went beyond pentatonic, Although he can really shred the shit out of it.

  • best advise ever! period.

  • @GibsonGuitarist666

agree all the way with you

  • Between Chris and Jeff, I can safely assume sweep picking is the future of young guitarists...everywhere.

  • fuck yeah it's my fist hitting the air there!

  • marty obiously!!

  • Marty will always be the best guitarist for Megadeth.

  • @0Lucretia0 Technically speaking, erm no.

  • I think that the worse job in metal business is to be the lead guitar of Megadeth. You just have to see how much really good guitar player pass by this band.

  • with reasons and there always better ones,i also tought wtf they let jeff loomis pack wtf hes like better then friedman i think, atleast i think he was more dedicated to megdeth then friedman altought comparring megdeth to tallica friedman is like A rank and kikr hammet was like B or C rank but nowday like F or something.kirk doesn't do what he's learned to do or can do hes capable enough i can't imagen joe satriani pooring ut his nose and saying yeah yeah offcourse lydian dominant X phygran.

  • did you know that Joe Satriani taught Hammet

  • He didn't do a very good job of it.

  • ithink he did. the only think kirk cant do is improvise, and thats pretty hard to do at the level of play

  • What?

It's not that difficult learning modes. Takes you at most, 30 minutes.

And that's 50% of music theory right there. Just knowing the modes of the Major Scale.

  • Who ever said anything about Modal scales??

  • Pretty hard to improvise without them mate. Learn your modes properly and you can solo all over the neck in any key no probs.

  • well dave came across or found all these brilliant players they all have there own flavor and style, blessed be the music of megadeth and in my humble opinion chris broderick is another flavor in the baskin robbins range.looking forward to the next installment of megadeth.hurry up! megahurtz75

  • honestly i'm the same feel that marty had on this song when he played it.

  • there's something unique how marty holds his pick, just totally awesome! him and jason becker pioneered all that eastern(cacophony)style of playing and introduced and blended it with the art of speed thrash metal!

  • Well to be honest be as original and innovative as you can be...That's what will make you have your own identity!Marty was Marty,Glen was Glen,Chris Broderick is Chris Broderick...And Don't ever say you can't be as good and all...Because in this world nothing is impossible you just have to work for it...If that was the case then we wouldn't have virtuosos coming up frequently!:)

    Cheers!

    P.S:I Love Brodericks Playing!

  • He seems like a giant O.o

  • nobody can do the bends like marty U_U

  • You have to remember got his bends from Brian May (Queen)...at least that is what he told a bunch of us at his guitar clinic.

  • well said trex257 and by the way fuck metallica

  • I wish there were more instructional type videos with Broderick on Youtube. I really love this guys style. I also think he needs to do a solo album. Man he is truly an amazing player. Any guy who can do Marty's solos and sound like Marty is a top notch player in my book.

  • YOU DON'T FUCK AROUND WITH A LOADED IBANEZ REVERSED HEADSTOCK ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU GOT THIS SHOOTER BEHIND THE FUCKIN TRIGGER!! mother fuckin awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i saw megadeth in detroit on may 3rd, and when this solo came, he just stopped, and put up his finger like "wait a second", and then he played it perfectly

    Chris Broderick is a monster

  • Dude I saw that too, I think he pushed his volume knob down when he was playing Hangar 18 too

  • I was there! Great night back then, though the sounds kind'a sucked.

  • Anyone who plays a variation of this solo fails. Its such a perfect composed solo. You either respect it 100% note for note or forget it.Even then I haven't heard ANYONE who can play it as well as friedman.

Broderick is an exceptional guitarist but i think this highlights that friedmnas playing is in a league of its own. You can match it technically BUT you can never sound the saeme!

  • As much as I love Broderick, I fully agree.

Friedman is in his own league, sub-par or not. That man had a style that can't be copied.

  • Check out Chris Feener. He's here on Youtube.

  • What?

  • Check out Chris Feener. It's a guy who plays the TOS solo so well.

  • thanks but i typed in 'chris fenner tornado of souls' but nothing came up.

Do you have any keywords for me?

  • It's not on your 'Related Videos' list? Just type in chris feener. Two "E"'s

  • awesome!

  • Chris is awesome!

  • awesome!

  • awesome!!! i wish this recording had better sound quality.

chris is awesome! sounds exactly like the album version; he didnt mess up once.

  • its great that he kept the original structure and added some of his style

  • fucking amazing

  • marty made this solo, drover killed it, and now is reborn!!

  • why does everyone hate drover.. he played so clean and his tone was amazing

  • yes, but i hate the way he changed all the solos writen by marty.

  • yeah i can give you that but its his style so i guess he plays like he plays...but marty was for sure the best

  • i loved his tone and vibrato...idk why people hate his improv. i mean you really cant copy note to note for marty...unless you're Broderick ofcourse ;-)

  • No offense to Friedman fans because I love Marty Friedman, but that solo was more accurate than Marty Friedman HIMSELF ever pulled it off live lol. And when this video was made, he had been learning in the band for like a 15 days or something lol?

  • he can prolly get all solos down note to note

yes....yes....finally someone besides AL who can do this masterpiece true justice. i like al's version bu it was sorta improv

why does chris have his guitar up so high? i know he has enough skill to play with his guitar at his ankles! he can look cooler than he does now...

  • he has jazz and classical origins which means that he is comfortable with this style right like this.

  • If you look at most technically proficient guitarists, their guitar position is usually higher to facilitate finger dexterity and to prevent carpal tunnel and other wrist ailments. It is so much more comfortable to play, in my opinion, than playing at your ankles.

  • yeah...but it looks so much cooler

but i understand...sounding better is more important than looking cool

  • Yep...I've been in situations where I've had to use a Herald trumpet (the long kind) instead of a normal Bb, and the use of it was entirely inappropriate, and it really just damaged the sound, but the conductor wanted it because it "looked cool." The rule of thumb is to not let theatrics take away from the sound.

  • You think Al did this solo justice?!

  • i honestly do

  • fuck yes :D

  • Chris Broderick is greattt! listen Jag Panzer - Age Of Mastery album! Damn!!! Broderick solos !! Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!

  • no offence to Glen Drover, but this is the way this solo should be played, Marty Friedman style

  • Yup, really funny to listen to Chris, he plays everything pretty much note for note after the album.

  • Yeah, Glen played with more of a Poland style. Where Broderick, plays more like Marty.

  • chris broderick is awesome, no doubt. This is THE best mega-solo ever!

  • I hope chris stay in Megadeth for a while...

He is more than too good!

  • i hope they go slow on their new album, i want to hear good and pure thrash metal, not an album rushed for money.

  • O_O

    O_O

Chris is definitely the next Friedman for Megadeth.

    No questions asked.

Friedman, Poland, and Broderick, the trifecta of 'Deth shredders

  • I can't wait to hear the new stuff...

  • bring on the next album :D

  • god after marty

  • Wow! he nailed it!

Wish the sound quality was better though :(

  • Unlike Glen Drover live. He totally blew that solo...

  • Hey, don't put down Glen. He was an awesome guitarist he just used too much vibrato.

  • that was the only solo i didnt like from glen but i would still like him to be in megadeth

  • Wow! he nailed it!

Wish the sound quality was better though :(

  • Dis dude is beta den Glenn Drover i must say. Pretty amazing but dunno if he's as good as Pitrelli???

  • Dude, all of Megadeths guitarists are better than Pitrelli. I mean Pitrelli is good in his own right, but isnt good compared to the others.

  • Ur crazy...

  • pitrellis awesome man wotcha talking bout?? wot i love about broderick is hes the only guitarist of thers since friedman who cud actually do a good job of that solo !! it isnt even that hard ffs

  • Uh, yeah it IS hard to play. To play it right like Marty does. Speed, arpeggios, and bends.

  • it isnt thaaat hard to play... come on... be real here. yeh its difficult but if i (a 17 year old kid who plays every now and then) can do it reasonably well, then it should be a fuking breeze for any pro guitarist. ESPECIALLY ones good enough to be in megadeth

  • yay! cant wait to see heavymetalvagabond try and rip this solo. not hard my ass.

  • i can play it. and im not having a go at it at all... in fact its probably my favourite solo ive ever herd, i jus dont think its all that hard in the grand scheme of things, ya dont have to be a douchebag abt it... watch 'Nevermore: Chris Broderick & Jeff Loomis guitar solo duel' . THAT my frend, is hard stuff!!

  • i've seen it, and i think jeff loomis won that one :P

but seriously....ToS is pretty damn hard to play like marty. Al and Glen certainly didn't play it like him, and they are both 10 times the musician me or you will ever be.

  • yeh thats very true. ppl CAN play it, but... it jus aint marty haha :p

  • Oh, man, Loomis' solos are some of the best and most emotional in metal. Born, River Dragon Has Come, Heart Collector, all amazing solos.

  • I agree! Jeff Loomis for the win, all the way. Im gonna meet him one day, and shake his hand. hahaha.

  • people can play it, but not make it sound like marty. its his style that he puts into it. thats why people cant play it all the time.

  • Your absolutely right. A lot of these guys don't play and don't understand the technical and style elements of Marty Friedman...I went to a guitar clinic of Marty's and he was a douche bag..knocking Megadeth after the fact. This new guy played Marty's solo very well live.

  • yeh i had a look at his forum thingy on his website... he does seem like such jackass...

  • im not trying to be an asshole but i really dont think chris will stay in megadeth, he is way to talented to have to play some other guys music. i mean this guy is prolly one of the best players around and he isnt gonna wanna be strapped down by a history of megadeth classics. do ya know what i mean? anyways it was nice to hear that solo played perfect, its been like 10 years since it has haha.

  • he nailed that shit

    he is insane

  • daves the mainatraction so he will always make the megadeth sound and the others are just there to round of the curves and at times they can make them really round een that round the the croud would fall of theyre feet.

  • Personally after that i like this guy a lot better then glen. one no one replaces marty hes just to good. two glen was a good guitarist but in my opinion just seemed to be lacking something. I think im gonna like megadeth a bit better with chris in the band.

  • marty got himself out of megadeth, he failed at taking one for the team and tried pushing Megadeth into the mainstream, with more of a pop-rock feel. The band didn't like the way it was, told Marty, he took it as disrespect, and now he's in Japan. However, i also like Broderick better than glen...but now Dave can only say that 1/4 of the band is canadian, not half :[

  • I don`t care about the band being 1/2 canadien(sorry if you`re canadian), but I didn`t like the idea of two brothers in the same at first.

  • Hey Glen Drover was an amazing guitarist and I think he still is. Glen had some family matters to attend to and wanted to be closer to home. So you have no right to disrespect Glen.

  • Drover is better than Hammet, im sure.

  • yes, i definately agree- and im a huge (early) metallica fan. Hammet is shit. I love both megadeth and metallica, but megadeth definately has them beat i the solos department

  • I don`t care about the band being 1/2 canadien(sorry if you`re canadian), but I didn`t like the idea of two brothers in the same at first.

  • Im also Canadian and personally i could care less if Megdaeth is part canadian or not. Sure its awsome but still the main focus is the music.

  • Oh and dragnmastr 521 marty might have been trying to make them mainstream the point im ust saying his time in megadeth was awsome and hes an awsome player. Also if you watch videos from japenese shows with him in it you can still hear that megadeth influence when hes soloing.

  • what do u mean megadeth influence its martys style that influenced megadeth's songs of that time and he was never trying to make them main stream, he played to his best for whatever genre they were playing and toward the end mustaine was giving into the producers wanting them to make mainstream songs it had nothing to do with marty get your facts right

  • try and look for an interview with Dave talking about Marty leaving Megadeth, there is a video where Dave says that Marty brought down Megadeth's metal feel for a bit, and that added to why he left. If i find it i'll send it to you. But yes, Marty is a good player. I saw a vid of him jamming with Kerry King, and it was sweet.

  • It makes since. Marty joins and they make rust in peace. Followed by countdown but then risk and cryptic writings? They were definatly less metal than their previous albums.

  • I was there!

  • Punkers and Scene kids more delve in that gay hardcore dancing crap.

  • i agree. moshing for pussies? moshing was and will stay metal. and i doubt "hardcore" people would dance...so it's kinda retarded in itself.

  • Punkers and Scene kids more delve in that gay hardcore dancing crap.

  • a) i like where chris has his guitar. it near where i have mine and its uber comfortable. b) he has truly nailed this.

  • playing with your guitar higher/lower depends on the players comfortability, and how fast they'd like to play, Adam D. from killswitch engage wears his up high, allowing him to play crushingly fast metalcore riffs and licks, but Matt T. from BFMV plays with his guitar practically at his knees/crotch..lol...but he still sounds great.

And that "metal image" rhythm was talking about is shit. If anyone was truly a metalfan, they'd say fuck the looks, gimme some metal and let's mosh!

  • Chris is awesome guitarist

  • Chris = Amen.

  • Amazin' he plays like marty..i can't believe it!

anybody knows something about Nick Menza?

    thanks

  • Chris Broderick is the closest thing to Marty Friedman that Dave will ever get. Its too bad Chris looks like a dork while playing with his guitar high on his chest...but he is awesome. I have listened to Chris' stuff online..he is ver Marty Friedman-esque with his style and bends on some of his work. He also plays similar to Malmsteen with the neo-classical stuff. Bottom line- i dont think chris will last either (i thought that about glen drover immediately after he started megadeth)

  • wtf..wearing your guitar higher produces less tension and allows you to play better than wearing your guitar low. it might not look as cool, but you go to a concert to hear bands play well. not to see them look cool

  • You might as well discontinue your idiotic replies. There are plenty of EXTROADINARY guitarists that do not need to play with their guitar high on their chest, and they play flawlessly. Do i need to mention names? You obviously know nothing because anyone knows that the whole "metal image" can be tarnished if you look like a dork on stage..even if you play good. Glen Drover has ZERO stage presence. Jeff Young played hid guitar high on his chest and looked like a DORK.

  • Continuing my message...Jeff young (lead guitarist of megadeth for so far.. so good..so what) was mentioned in VH1 megadeth behind the music as looking like a dork and not fitting the stage presence of such an intense metal act. Les claypool was not hired as metallica guitarist due to not having a meatl stage presence. STAGE PRESENCE IS VERY IMPORTANT, BOTTOM LINE. Its a part of their persona, none the less.

  • wtf les didn't fit in cause he was too good.

  • So your saying Marty Friedman has alot of stage presence compared to Glen Drover aned Chris Broderick? I havent noticed it.

  • Yeah....the only stage presence Marty had was he had a fem kinda thing goin on,great guitarist...a little girly though. Broderick is God!

  • dude drover was awesome don't be dissing him

  • Havin your guitar high doesn't mean look a dork, or whatsoever. I mean, I play with my guitar high on the chest, cause that's comfortable, and what's the problem with thtat?

  • I didnt understand all of this, rhythm78 is a dork then? xD

  • you are a fucking pussy AND a poser. Who gives a shit whether he wears his guitar high or low, you say he's not cool? He's a million times cooler than you buddy.

  • You are a fool, end.

  • ACE!!! plays it better then glen did but really i dont care how if the lead guitarist can play 90% 98% or 100% exact to teh original i just care when they write ther own solos for the next megadeth album.

BTW wat guitar is chris playing? Is it the guitar that was gonna be GLens signature guitar?

  • It's Chris' custom Ibanez.

  • I coudn`t agree better. If Chris is not staying that long in Megadeth, I hope at least he does at least one album.

  • Great axeman, anyone check his work at Nevermore! Finally a guy who can fit in Marty's shoes?

  • Indeed, the other guys didn't even come close on some solos.

  • except marty....writer of solo's, electric guitar god...

  • Except he didn't write any of the Nevermore stuff, Jeff Loomis did :|

  • ağlamak istiyorum.... alayına isyan alayına Megadeth

  • fucking awesome.. finally a guitar player that plays true to marty's solos (in fact this almost seems a bit cleaner than what marty would sometimes pull off live esp. during run down from the 24th fret) - there's another great video of him doing the symphony solo - he's definitely a clean and VERY precise player

  • chris and marty... guitar gods, dont compare them.

  • Marty sigue siendo el mejor

  • he does it just like marty witch is great, glenn and petrelli did there own versions witch is harder and bla bla bla. but making a different version of this master solo is like making a different version of megadeth, its just wrong!

  • bullshit

  • that bullshit was aimed at the guy who said he should have stayed in nevermore btw, not this video, cause it's awesome

  • He wasnt in Nevermore, just filling in .He was In Jag Panzer.

  • nailed it

  • i dont know chris reminds me of mark tremonti, only he has a long hair but the way he poses on stage is kinda similar. but of course the ability, tremonti would be a joke to him.

  • you wouldnt understand what the feeling of it means unless your a guitarist. i reckon this guy is tons better than they're last one. he re made the tornado of souls solo into his own style...you should never do it with such a powerful one as this

  • the sound sucks but it sounds to me like Chris was all over than damn solo.

  • April 28th at Quebec city...See you there Mustaine =D

  • you suck, fuckin idiot

  • Toronto April 30th... Cant wait

  • I'll be there too! :D

  • gonna see em in newcastle wed 20th, aint seen em since countdown tour and cant wait.i was suprised glen left, but this guy looks great

  • Finally!!

after all these years (8), Megadeth has a new guitarist

  • Lets see, Chris Poland was a drug addict who sold guitars to buy drugs(not that Dave wasn't like this), Jeff, Dave thought slept with his girl, Marty left Megadeth(didn't get kicked out) Al was great but a drunk on the road(goodbye), Glen left on his own terms, so really the only guitar player kicked out was Jeff. Drummers Gar died, Chuck sucked, Nick was great but drunk, Jimmy was not resigned after Daves injury, neither was Ellefson, who later tried to sue Dave, great band now though

  • Al wouldnt give Dave a long term commitment to stay in the band. He is a mercenary musician not a band kinda guy. There is an interview on Guitar World's website where Dave said that Al was great and played things the way they were supposed to be played. Dave said Al is like a guy you call in to cover until the bodies are cleared from the wreckage. Same with DeGrasso.

  • I'd say Chris is the best since Marty

  • Dave said that Glen was the only megadeth guitarist who was able to learn every previous member's solo's to perfection so far...

  • that statement was way before chris broderick came in

  • Agreed glen is good to poland is my favourite though cant beat the classic deth!

  • he's so fucking good!!

  • then what the hell are you doing here ?
