yesterday i bought a ferret but now im having some trouble with, and hopefully some of you guys can help me.

my ferret is 3 months old, still considered as an baby...

and since bringing him back he hasn't really ate anything including ferret food, i looked up everything online on what should i feed them n what i shouldn't, but at last i didnt have a choice so i tried fruits, a pear to be exact, and she eats it, and they say we shouldn't feed them fruits etc etc, but she'll go hungry if i dont.

@uvmasl2rules i'd keep them on hard floor instead of carpet because i hate having to have a brown mark on the carpet always.... but you can buy things to clean it up like a special vacuum for it (i have one) My house is REALLY crazy though. I dont suggest it because it also starts to smell....I'd only suggest having them in only one room with no carpet. You can also remove your door and put something to block it enough to walk over for you so then you can watch them. :)

@doggiera Actually most ferrets are very picky. The majority of ferrets imprint onto their food, so whatever they learn to eat in the first 6 months of their life is what they stick w/ for the rest of their life unless taught otherwise.For example, if you only feed them kibble for the first 6 months, most likely they will only like kibble as their main food source. You hand them a piece of chicken, and most won't even touch it. They don't associate it as food. There are of course exceptions.

@doggiera And regarding smell, I personally don't think they smell bad. Its the litter box and bedding that smell. As long as you keep those clean on a regular basis, the odor isn't horrible. And the less baths you give a ferret, the better. Baths make ferrets stink more because their skin starts overproducing the oils that were washed away.When you think about it, all animals smell. Ferrets just smell different from, say, a dog or a cat. Hope you can convince your mom. They're great pets :)

@doggiera Here's my little secret. I'm in Cali too. LOL. And we have the highest population of ferrets in the nation. And chinchillas are a great alternative. I had one in the past. And your mom will love it since they have no odor. If you get one, I recommend getting a Chin from a breeder. They will be much more friendly, tame, and healty then the ones found in petco/petsmart. Good luck. :)

@HavvahartKL They make awesome pets, but make sure you do your research before getting them. They need specific vaccinations when you first get them, a good sized cage, ferret food, a harness if you plan on walking them and ferret shampoo if you plan on bathing them. They sleep for around 18 hours a day so theyre usually super hyper when awake. Theyre awake for around 4-6 hours a day. Hope this helps : )

@HavvahartKL Assuming anything about an animal is the reason why there are shelters overflowing with animals, many even getting killed because of low budget/overcrowding. People often act first and think later usually ending up in misery for the animal. Do your research first. That being said they make fantastic pets for someone with LOTS of free time and even more patience. Also its better to get two because they are social animals but get them together when they are young.

@purefreedom1995 They are great ! i have 2 boys and one little girl and they were both from a ferret rescue shelter and the little girls name is jazzy and her old owner had kids who would put her on high places and make her jump and she broke her growth plates in her two front arms but she walks normally and her and the other two biggie and jack are heathy and so much fun ! they got to play in there first snow just a few weeks ago so that was fun to watch but thanks for asking !
