These are islands of my country Portugal. That was because of sudden gigantic flood caused by exceptional weather conditions. Madeira is a volcanic island, so most of it s terrain are highlands and a lot of houses are in slopes and near river beds, so has allways the risk of landslides in situations like this. Govermment should now do a better urban planning to minimize the risk to people. I hope they can do better way in future to come.
