  • hasek and roy are pretty close... but personally i like hasek more, hes such a down to earth guy. and his saves are acrobatic and hes just amazing

  • I get chills every time I see him come flying out on the breakaway. Too come out like that after being put in as a backup in a Stanley cup final game when there getting swept is crazy. The crowd goes out of control. One of the sickest saves I have ever seen. not to mention all the other unreal saves.

  • Hasek was humble, unlike that douchebag Roy, who flashed his glove like an asshole everytime he made a fuckin' glove save.

  • He is so modest!

  • @ndseahorse29 hasek didnt play in the nhl til he was 27 so u cant compare wins. Gaa and save % hasek is better

  • Greatest of all time? Always debatable. Greatest of his era? If not, he was damn close to it.

  • this is the best clip from the video NHL's masked men: the last line of defense. i still have the old VHS tape. dont get me wrong, i love brodeur to death, but numbers be damned, Hasek is the all-time greatest goalie in the history of hockey.

  • Keeping laughing I don't mind, but when u finally decide to look at their numbers it's no competition, brodeur is on top

  • Brodeur is better

  • @ndseahorse29

U made me laugh. Thank you!

  • @ndseahorse29 Brodeur isn't better. He merely played for longer and racked up more wins because he had better teams in front of him. Hasek is the best goalie to ever play in the NHL.

  • there are 3 kinds of goalies, butterfly, stand up and Hasek

  • Jak rikal Ruzicka - kdyz golmanovi nemuzes dat gola ani na treninku tak to uz o necem svedci... Proste Hasek is best goalie of history...

  • 2:48 Best Save 4ever

  • he have been in some cup finals, won some and won olympic gold medal by playing his game. not like brodeur etc who got the gold only cos' his team scores a lot. hasek have been playing in worse team than brodeur, yeeeep i think Hasek is the best ever

  • Best.

    Goalie.

    Ever.

  • Look at those Vezinas on the mantle. Go Dom!

  • 3:00 Hashek umm...Stops Bucks....

  • He wasn't the best, he still is.

  • what a english speaker :D

  • czech republic has the best hockey players :)

  • sucks he never won the stanley cup in buffalo. We had him in his prime. One of the greats!!

  • in finland if someone did a great save at the pond or in street hockey everyone told him that hes hasek :P

  • Hasek is the best goalie ever.

  • Hasek in his prime was the best goalie to ever play hockey

  • I bet if Hasek came back to the NHL next season,he could win the Vezna Trophy, and probebly Some Cups

  • Most NHL Goalies when they saw Lemieux and Jagr on an odd man rush, they'd crap themselves.

DOMINIK though made snipers crap themselves when they thought of coming in on a breakaway.

  • The magic is in the ugly helmet.

  • @kibez41 he has 2 cups....

  • Hasek is really good.

  • Hasek is a legend in Finland also.. I remember when i was a kid everyone wanted to be like hasek if they had to play as a netminder when playing at pond :D

  • @TheQneb suomi

  • well ,but he did win couple of Stanleys ..soo...

he is a best goalie ever !:-)

someone even wanted him to wear the Czech national colours in Worlds in Slovakia..in his rookie age of what ??? 43~?:-)

  • Out of all the superstar goalies in NHL, Hasek was always my favourite. The fastest and most agile goalie I have ever seen on the ice.

  • Hašek+Jágr

  • Great video!! I was so lucky to see him play as a rookie in Chicago and it was great seeing him DOMINATE the game!!

  • @AlexandriaDaniels I think you mean Tim Thomas reminds you of Hasek

  • Singlehandedly made me proud of being Czechoslovakian while growing up in the U.S

  • best goalie

  • One of the best goalies ever. Such an amazing guy. I really like him alot. Wish he'd played for the Flyers.

  • DOMINATOR!!! my favorite player ever

  • Dom is so humble. YOU ARE AMAZING!

  • he made 6 shoutout's in 1 month

  • Best Goalie ever. Hands down.

  • I'm 1 of Dominik Hasek's biggest Fan, but He isn't Thee Greatest Goalie ... Ever, but He's still Thee Greatest Entertaining, Exciting Goalie ... Ever!

  • Top 5.

    Roy

    Tretiak

    Brodeur

    Hextall

    Hasek

  • @BillionDollarZombie hextall? R U kidding me? :D Hasek all the way!

  • @BillionDollarZombie Lol are you dumb? Hasek is better than Hextall and Tretiak. Not to mention Brodeur is better than Roy. Oh and where is Sawchuk, Plante, and Dryden? Luongo is better than Hextall and Tretiak and Luongo is a choke artist

  • @baddass4ever better than Tretiak? What are you smoking?

  • @BillionDollarZombie you should work on your (if this is about the NHL) history. hextall in the the top 5???? HAHAHHAHAHAHAH who are you?? think about it. I CAN NAME 10 GOALIES AT LEAST WHO MURDER HEXTALL!!! the rest are pretty good though i'd rearrange them but thats who i am so i'm not going to touch on that its more preference but hextall in the top 5? WOW

  • @ZigZaggn Hextall changes the way goalies play the game by shooting the puck - he is the first goalie to score a goal on the opposing net with his shot - and is the major influence of Martin Brodeur who, in turn, makes the ability to play the puck well, a necessary skill for today's NHL goalies.

And he's the definition of aggressive goaltending - the dude would slap the dentures out of your grandmother's mouth if she crossed him!

  • @BillionDollarZombie k my man.shut the fuck up. first person to have aggressive goaltending was tiny thompson and he murdered shit. tom barrasso has the most points. PLUS IN TERMS OF GREAT GOALTENDING THERE'S: Johny Bower, George Hainsworth, Bernie Parent, Glen Hall, Ken Dryden, Jacques Plante, Terry Sawchuk and every single goaltender thats named on nhl.com. you name HEXTALL IN THE TOP 5???? i really don't think you know what your talking about. SIT DOWN LITTLE BOY

  • @ZigZaggn lol, i know Tom Barrasso's brother, he happens to be my history teacher

  • @nuty1234 all things aside thats fucking dope. barrasso and vanbeiesbrouck have always been my favorite goalies since i was like 4 years old

  • @BillionDollarZombie Hextall also had a habit of letting easy goals in, thats why the flyers never won the cup when he was the goalie, but you're right about the puck handling

  • Anyone know what the first instrumental song is?

  • best! golie

  • Hasek > Broduer

  • Hasek is the man, legend.

  • Hasek was the third ever goaltender to win the Hart — not the 5th as the voiceover says.

Chuck Rayner actually won it in 1950 for the Rangers.

and then Jacques Plante in '62 with Montreal.

and then, of course, he won it twice, in a row.

  • when he said hewent to the doc about his joints being so flexabuil... i think thats not true... why because streaching and being that skiny makes u able to move beter.. i never seen any thing abnormal about him.. there was nonthing about him no one else can do... the hype he got for crazy saves is because no one else played like that before.. where there comming up about this knees is bull.. ohh and dont for get about his groin.. dont let me start on that lol

  • @CSIS25: me either ... I'm a Sabres fan and the day to day ... "How's Dom's groin doing" was insane. I met him once & after you got past his arrogance he was a decent guy. I broke the ice with him by asking him when he had his "spies" watching me play because I had been doing that toss the puck in the air & knock it down the ice thing since I was in HS. It was an interesting conversation talking with him for a few minutes with his guard somewhat down.

  • nejlepší golman na světě toto!!!!!

  • u can not compare goalies considering how much the game has changed

  • @CSIS25: VERY true. Take someone like Dryden & throw him on the ice now & he'd get lit up like a X-mas tree but that wouldn't mean he wasn't the best goaltender in the 70s. That's how I look at it ... the 90's belonged to Hasek as the 80s belonged to Roy etc. Hasek from 97 - 99 was in that "zone" that is rarely achieved, the one WAY above "elite" & that gives him an edge over the other great goalies the league has seen. In any event it was pure joy to watch the man play.

  • @JediDude38 i agee to.. everyone has there moment in time.. comparing them with all the change the game has done is somthng that cant be done.. even more so with how much lighter the equmen has gotten.. in drydens prime give him light equemtnt and see how he would of been and .. put them heavy bricks on Hasek and see how he would of done..

  • @CSIS25: Yeah Dryden did have his own "different" style. Like he says in the interview, you stop the puck, doesn't matter how you do it. I don't know if the pad weight would have made much of a difference though. I have a set of Bauer Reactors like he wore in Buffalo & they really aren't much liter than the old brown Cooper set that I bought in 1984. I will say the old DP trapper & blocker that I got with them were like cinder blocks though. Two great goalies in any event.

  • Hasek and his style was perfect ! He´s hero for me !

  • numero uno !!

  • I think Brodeur is the greatest goalie of all. I love Hasek, he is my favorite goalie of all. But how many other Goalies do you see go out and play 78 of the 82 games every year and be King. Hasek is a top 3 Tender.

  • @Wafe88 Keep in mind martin brodeur played on better teams than Hasek (other than the 2002 wings). Hasek in my opinion was the best ever, led the league in save percentage 7 years in a row, won the vezina the most (6 times), the only goalie to ever win back to back harts and lester trophies. He also changed the way goalies play today...He is the best.

  • @ldf399 Yeah you win. I wish Hasek would have won a cup in buffalo. I Hate the stars and flyers for the playoff series they had in his final couple years while he was in buffalo, wish i would have gone to more games to watch him play here too.

  • @Wafe88 The only reason Brodeur played that many games is because he only faced 15-20 shots a game. If he faced 40+ like Hasek did on a regular basis, he wouldn't play 78 games a season. He would probably play more like 60ish.

  • Might just be one of the greatest goalies of all time. A class act!

  • If not the best Goalie ever, top 3 for sure.

  • 2:06

Dominik has done this his whole carrer

  • Chuck Norris is able to score a goal from substitutes bench. Unless he plays a match against Dominik Hasek.

  • I would love to relive the days of the Dominator in Buffalo. It isn't often that the most exciting player on a team is the guy in net. He dropped your jaw at some point every time he got in net. Still my favorite player of any sport ever.

  • wow i dint know he played for the ice we had gretzky and hasek at different times

  • the two best goalies were dominik hasek and patric roy well thats just my oppinion anyway....

  • Mike Keenan doesn't know how to recognize talent.

  • he is so smart its not even funny he doesnt care what people think about him and he understands hockey probably better then anyone those pad stacks are crazy. i do them now but people dont like them but i really dont care

  • Dominik Hasek is very good but he plays like a fish without water!!!

    He is the best!!!

  • Yeah Tim Thomas plays almost just like Hasek. They both flop around a lot, but very effectively

  • What a save at 2:48. Probably the best I have seen.)))

  • @rusvic91

ur going to think that im liying but as a goalie myself with that save u have to know he is going there so what i mean is that ur showing enough net that they want to shoot there but enough that they dont think that he is doing it on purpose

  • Best goalie ever

  • @KingXanthar Roy is better.

  • @ebtricks

Roy is not.. he had better team that s all...

If Hasek would have play with Sakic , Foote , Forsbergh , carbo , robinson , damphousse , muller, chelios ,Blake etc.. he would have won a few stanley cup.

when buffalo went to the final... do you know you was the best scorer for buffalo ??? Jason Wooley... do you know him ?? did Jason is better then all Roy's teamate. ???

1st liner for Hasek team was ... Satan - Peca - Grosek.. .

Did Roy ever have a worst 1st linner then that ??

  • @KingXanthar Sure, Hasek started with a rough team in Buffalo, but without Roy, do you think the Canadians in 85-86 or 92-93 would have gone anywhere? They were moderately struggling during these periods.

Roy built his legend for the Canadians, like Hasek in Buffalo, and finished his in Colorado, like Hasek in Detroit. Would Hasek have won HIS two cups without Detroit?

What about Lidstrom, Federov, Chelios, Datsyuk, Holmstrom, Hull, Shanahan or Yzerman? Roy got two given's, so did Hasek.

  • @ebtricks

hasek play with a good team.... 2 years in all is carrer.. and he win 2 cup..

Roy win the 86.. but all other cup will have be won with any good goalie.

and in 86.. he was playing with chelios at is prime.. robinson , carbo , svoboda , naslund, smith , gainey etc.. Halak this year did better then roy in 86.

When Roy and Brodeur was in their Prime... did you know... they win nothing ?? Hasek will hart 2 time. ( the only goalie who ever did it )

  • @KingXanthar I've already been through this, and I'm aware of ALL the awards that were earned by both goalies. I just believe that Roy played in the toughest age to be a goaltender (80's) while Hasek entered during the pad size increase. Roy has to play against the best with larger nets and smaller pads, making ANY of his achievements from 85-86 more valuable.

  • @ebtricks: You tarnish your otherwise great point with something that is not true ... the net has never changed size in the NHL, it's always been 6X4. The size of the pads is NOT that different if you actually check on it. That didn't really change until the 2000s & even then it was more about the equipment other than leg pads. That being said the 80s were the "run & gun" era of the Oilers and the NHL. In that respect you are 100% correct. This is an issue that will never be settled.

  • @ebtricks

he win more vesina then brodeur and Roy united....

he as a wayyyy better % save , and so/game , and GAA too. all all of these despite , playing in a weaker team all in carreer.

and he beat... canada and russia in OG... he beat the 2 strongest team... alone. for the gold medal .

  • @KingXanthar

    Hell yes!

  • Jo Český gólmani!!! Very good video!

  • god bless the diminator

  • I never realized Dom got a chance to shine in the Stanley Cup finals with Chicago. Interesting video.

  • Hasek > God

  • i play goalie, i grew up watching him and there was never a boring game with hasek in net. Nowadays i get kinda bored with EVERY SINGLE goalie playing positional butterfly, only one fun left to watch is marty brodeur

  • Thomas isn't bad either

  • hasek would've kicked roys ass if he didnt slip,

  • Lol I don't think I can agree with you on that one. IF he didnt't slip. That's a big if

  • Not really

  • Hasek is the best goaltender ever to play the game of hockey.

  • come on...he don't have any style...but he do what he must do, he stopping puck, and he do that amazing!!!

    He is the best

  • Nejlepší hokejový brankář všech dob.... měl chytat v NHL dřív...

  • Dominator is the best for all time

  • 1. Hasek

    2. Brodeur

  • Nagano olympics ?

  • yes he is/was

  • This is pretty video Hašek is best goalkeeper in history he have Style ,Brain and T.A.L.E.N.T,unlike ROY.Hašek is best goalkeeper in galaxy because he is DOMINATOR!!!!

  • he wants to play in the 2010 Olympics

  • 1. HASEK

    2. ROY

  • 1. Patrick Roy

    2. Dominik Hasek

  • actually through stats hasek is better then brodeur.

    better G.A.A

    better save percentage

more vezina, I think he won 6 in a row, or 6 in 7 years, never the less from 1994-2002 there was no better goalie.

But i think brodeur is the best goalie ever played the game

  • We'll all miss Hasek. He was my goalie idol.

  • Does anybody know the title of the techno song?

  • Hasek was unbelievable in his prime

  • still is-YEAH

  • dom is back!!!! hc moeller pardubice

  • @ra1s3 And now he's gone again. grr >:-( HC Pardubice ftw thou :)

P.S.: That accent is terrible hehe

  • hašek is god

  • I made the goalie pads he's wearing at 2:59. Dom was awesome!

  • ill miss you dom

  • Isn't this from NHL last line of defense: masked man??

  • yes!

  • @tjackson76 Is there a DVD?

  • @teddyjun1 love that movie, haven't seen it in forever

  • @teddyjun1 him and osgood

  • @teddyjun1 yeah it is

  • what if he would have came over to the NHL earlier? He would have way more vieznas and cups

  • agreed. from 1986-1990, hasek was the best goalie in europe, and maybe in the world.

since hasek was better than roy and belfour and brodeur in his 30s, i don't see why he wouldn't be better than them when he was in his 20s.

  • totally unrelated to the video but the Ducks 2007 cup run was a gigantic fluke the Wings could've made it. and they have the biggest load of bandwagoners in the NHL. Glad Hasek got to play in Ottawa. GO Sens GO.

  • Hasek is one of the best and he helped Buffalo more than any goalie and got both cups with Detroit

  • boy watching highlights of the devils sabres series in 94, watching brodeur and hasek was like watching a war between the gods.... wat 2 great goalies

  • hahah hej hasku, co takle pro Pardubice???

  • DOMINATORRRRRR LETS GO BUFFALO!! i miss hasek

  • one of the best ever. i am glad i got to watch him through his whole career. go sabres.

  • Well what do you know a couple of Stanley Cups in 2002 and 2008. Hasek was a great goalie. But I think he'll be remembered more for his time in Buffalo compared to anywhere else.

  • wouldnt surprise me if he gets hall of fame the first year hes eligible

  • Nagano 1998 was his best

  • Hasek is amazing. No doubt about it

  • Hasek is the greatest ever, he is in a completely different stratosphere than Roy. He could of had a midget team in front of him and he could of taken them to the finals.

  • What this video fails to mention he was also a back up to grant fuhr in buffalo until fuhr got hurt then came the DOMINATOR!

  • I have this video on a VHS. This is from "The man behind the mask, the last wall"...sth like that...there are also videos on Vanbiesbrook or Hebert in this VHS that u can find among the related videos' links. Great VHS by the way when they compare Brodeur to Richter for example...

  • Just to add a bit of humor to this wonderful discussion on here for my final posting today.

Hasek, after his win in the 98 Olympics, has been called to the Castle for president, had a postal stamp of him made, and of course the best one is Hasek has an asteroid named after him by one of the Czech scientists. I enjoyed this friendly debate with you, Jakethesnake. Both indeed are the greatest goalies ever. It is sad that both no longer play for our own entertainment. Here to Roy and Hasek!

  • If nothing else, we can all appreciate their own special qualities. Roy's confident, albeit often arrogant air of invincibility. And Hasek's How-The-Hell-Did-He-Stop-That? flopping highlight saves. Roy influenced an entire generation of goalies to emulate his style - Hasek's style can never be copied. Both are one of a kind, so much so that it becomes impossible to dub one or the other "The Greatest", obviously. Hockey will miss their talent and passion, but we'll never forget their impact.

  • I agree with you 100% Both of them are warriors on ice. I think we both can be happy that we have seen them play during our lifetime and be able to tell stories of them to our future generations. I am most proud and honored to have seen them play. They will be missed!

  • Yes Jake, Hasek was voted the best goalie of the Olympics (under a goal per game allowed). He was also named best goalie of the World championships twice.

Roy and Hasek were both amazing goaltenders. I think it's impossible to put one over the other simply because the teams they played for were so different in skill level (Buffalo was a pretty bad team for most of Hasek's career).

  • Hasek has won 6 championships (NHL and internationals), Roy only won 4 total and all are in NHL. Everytime Hasek played Roy, the series/games are instant classics and I loved watching them. 7 games series between DET and COL and semifinal game in 98 between Canada and Czechs. For the biggest games, Hasek has beaten Roy every single time. Don't get me wrong. I think Roy is the greatest NHL goalie ever, and Hasek is the greatest WORLD goalie along with Vladislav Tretiak.

  • yes but i can say the same thing of Patrick Roy back in the day with Montreal in 86 and 93 Habs were sont supposed to win the cup. They did because of Roy

  • That is true. Patrick Roy is great, no doubt. He's a perfect NHL goalie, but he can't play in the internationals where the games are different and on bigger ice. Hasek has excelled on both stages and is more of a complete all around goalie in my opinion. Roy is great in the NHL ONLY.

  • Yes, Roy has won 4 stanley cups, and that's all he won. Hasek has won 3 czech league MVPS and championships (played on an international ice), 2 Cups, and the unforgettable 98 olympics win where he only allowed 2 goals total against USA, Canada, and Russia. Hasek is more of a complete all around goalie, winning championships on different stages of the game. Roy ONLY won in the NHL and his success is limited there. Hasek has won everywhere.

  • Four Stanley Cups....and that's all?! Why did Hasek come to play in the NHL in the first place? The NHL is without comparison the most competitive hockey league in the world. Roy never won in the Czech league because he never PLAYED in the Czech league. It's true Roy's success is only limited to the most competitive league in the world. But his success in that league come playoff time far outshines any of Hasek's accomplishments.

  • You have the typical American/Canadian perspective that the NHL is the best. NHL is played on much smaller ice, it's different game. The rest of the world doesn't play that game. Also consider that NHL is the most wealthiest league, players come there for money too and to defect from their communist governments. Hasek has proven in winning BIG games in the NHL and elsewhere, Roy hasnt. Hockey is not limited to NHL only. That is an arrogant bias on your part. There is more to hockey than just NHL

  • NHL is NOT the best league in the world. If you really believe that, then I can counter your debate with that the American/Canadian team has only won 2 olympic golds since 1964! Hockey is played differently outside of the NHL and they have proven to be the better leagues, but don't have as much money nor do they play in a capitalist environment. It's different, man. NHL is clearly not the best league, but it's where there are more hitting and more money.

  • But all the best players on these Swedish, Czech teams that win Olympic gold all PLAY in the NHL! It's not just made for Americans/Canadians

  • No. The American and Canadian teams have ALL of its own players that played in the NHL. For the teams of Russia, Sweden, Czechs, etc... not all of their players play in the NHL. Nope. Maybe half of the players plays in the NHL, other half doesn't. Check the rosters carefully!

  • And like I said, all the Swedish, Czech's BEST players came from the NHL. Not all of them. Only the best. The rest played in international leagues. The reason the Czech's won is because they had an incredible NHL goalie carrying them to the gold.

  • Czech's best players came from the NHL? Really? I know there's Jagr, Hasek, and couple others. But Jagr was held down to only 2 goals. Other than Hasek, the czech better players were Patera, Dopita, Spacek, and more that weren't NHL players at the time. So it was not only NHLers, but bunch of non NHL players as well.

  • theres also martin Havlat he is a great czech rep with out his injuries

  • Well, let's break it down. NHL=Wealthiest League. Players get paid more in the NHL, more glory, fame, escape communist repression. Naturally, everybody would want to be in that league, no? Therefore, the NHL has to be selective, and only the best players would be able to succeed. Do you not agree?

  • If the NHL was in Soviet Union, would more better players be willing to get small pay, freedom taken away, and their lives controlled by the government? No. NHL being in USA is a big factor too. NHL has to be selective because of the limit on roster size, the rest can play in minors or wait until opportunities comes up.

  • lol Hasek is cool, hes only the few goalies who dive out against a player on a breakaway
