  • I know bill deal's cousin!!!!!!

  • brings back fond memories! they just dont make good songs like this anymore.

  • trees lounge - yup

  • Bill Deal and the Rhondels - this is the best!! You can't be depressed and listen to this song. (Giuliano Palma and the Bluebeaters also have a version of this. Maybe not as good as the real Deal, but fun to watch.)

  • Great song!! If you've ever been lied to and cheated on just listen to this song a few times....you'll feel all better :)

  • Just a great song...have to love the background vocals....got that right, baby....!!!!

  • Bill Deal & the Rhondels got their start at the Peppermint Beach Club in Virginia Beach, VA. They rocked the boardwalk & beach. R.I.P. Bill, your music lives on.

  • @gfockler46 Would this be THE Peppermint Beach Club where Joey D. and The Starlighters performed?

  • @gfockler46 Would this be THE Peppermint Beach Club where Joey D. and The Starlighters (Peppermint Twist") performed?

  • @JohnGee1977 You're getting confused with the Peppermint LOUNGE, which was in NYC, Manhattan.

  • Uhhh!!! cuantos recuerdos de mi infancia!!! Gracias por subir este lindísimo tema!!!

  • This is the ONLY song about being hurt that makes you want to dance...even if its with broom stick.

  • I remember the Peppermint Beach Club in Virginia Beach as the home of Bill Deal & the Rhondels, featuring Roy Hines (shown in the photo at 0:27). They were THE premier band in the entire Tidewater area in the 60s, when Rhythm & Blues became Soul Music. Always had a tight brass section, excellent musicians, excellent performances!

  • Parabens pela postagem. Bom gosto.. Saude Paz e Alegria pra ti

Alvaro - São Paulo - Brazil

  • Don't remember him from the 60s, too bad. Love it!!!

Te vas a sorpender

Saludos.

  • Incredible!

There is also a beautiful version of Trio Galleta - Estoy Herido.

  • Me gusta

  • This song is dedicated to most of my girlfriends.

  • Another great hit of 1969 real great times

  • I was watching some dumb movie last night (11-16-2010) and i was about to change it when they started playing records, thats right "RECORDS" and this was the song they played. I would sing this song in the living room all the time in the late 60`s because thats where everyone kept the record player in the living room. I like "ALL" music i seriously do but you can`t keep me out of the late 50`s, all 60`s and disco days 70`s. Because of the "Dumb" movie i was able to revisit my youth again. LOL

  • test

  • Don't remember this song from when I was a kid but I love it :) Bring back this style of music. Hate the "whiny" popular music these days!!

  • @tlbutler57 That's cos everyone wants to be a soloist.....no real bands anymore. I don't know why the music today is SO impovirshed. This is just downright fun. A lot of todays music is crude, depressing, dark, etc.

  • Don't remember this song from when I was a kid but I love it!!! Catchy little tune :)

  • Myrtle Beach 67..the Pavillion on that 3 day pass from Ft. Bragg N.C....before shipping to the NAM....

  • Beautiful song !!! I was only 4 y then 1970. Porque nadie hace ya esta musica ?

  • These blue eyed soul dudes were very popular in Latin America!

  • Sneaked in at the Top Hat Club in Virginia Beach, Va. before they were known. I knew I was on to something!

  • I was a kid, I loved music I loved rock , but my sister went out & got this record (45) dug it ever since,, cool tune.

  • I remember seeing this group twice during my teenage years in a place in Virginia Beach, which for some reason I'm unable to remember. I think it's due to the fact that the group made such an impression on me that the location was irrelevant. Anyone know where this might have been?

  • John you probably saw the at Bill`s club in Virginia Beach (Rogue`s Gallery)...if it was prior to Bill building Rogue`s Gallery then it was the Peppermint Beach Lounge.

  • Been looking for this for 15 years! Thanks. Elisa

  • this song sucks my nut sack.

  • I rembmer the Rhondells when I was growing up in the mid 60's. They had their own sound, did not give in to the British sound 100% pure American with a lot of soul. These guys were also loved all over Latin America. I remember watching the KMEX 34 In Los Angeles and seeing countless of mexican groups redoing their hits.

  • It may be because I'm Argentine, but the only version that sounds close to (or better than) this is by Trio Galleta.

  • love this song! thanks for posting...

ESTUPENDOS. BUSQUE N, ESTOY HERIDO, POR EL TRIO GALLETA. GRACIAS!! DESDE HOUSTON . RAUL El Mature of the Music. Tengo 63 abriles. Pero mucha sangre en mi cuerpo

  • Great group & sound love the Doo Wopp sound.Sorry to hear that Bill passed away

  • I've always loved Bill Deal and the Rondells!

  • vc me maguou

  • Used to go see Bill & The Rondels in Va Beach and around the area, especially Hampton, VA. What a great group and so sad that he died so suddenly. His wife still lives in VA Beach. Great east coast beach music.

  • I broke up with my long time College Girl Friend and heard this song. Damn it made me feel great and went out dancing all night with some chick I picked up at a club.. Them were the days!!!

Thanks a lot joserf for post it!

  • Great post! Love the image of the old Peppermint's rear (:31). How many times back in the 60s did I wake up on that beach! I am age 63 now and used to frat with the band back then. The Peppermint was always my 'weekend home', lol! RIP Bill Deal.

  • Great moments MAGNIFICA

  • I like the pic at :42 they became hippies

  • anyone know who did the original version of this song? This may be the original - I'm just not sure. I know I've heard several other versions. Thanks!

  • Tams did original, out of Atlanta

  • Hi, guitarplayer85. Both of these groups are GREAT. Each have their distinctive styles. I was stationed at Cherry Point, N.C., during 1967 and early '68 and the Tams were all over the radio with this song. Actually, the words to this song would make you think it's kind of sad ........ but it's NOT. You just want to get up and dance, don't you? Saw the 'original' Tams in Mytle Beach many years ago. What a terrific group!!! And Bill Deal takes second base to no one.

  • I love this song.

  • thank you like!!!!!!!! very goood

  • LOVE THIS SONG!!!!

    THANK YOU!!!!!

    jctoronto

  • This song turns my gray hair brown again....

  • Mine, as well...

  • also you can listen i ve been hurt from a great cover band "trio galleta" they was a great band from argentina in the 60's

  • Philly Sound? These guys were Beach music and played from Virginia Beach to Jacksonville... Not even remotely Philadelphia. They were Southern boys.

  • A couple of years ago i read in the Virginia Pilot about a guy in New Jersey who was billing himself as Bill Deal "of the Rondells". He played rock & roll revival shows around Philly & Atlantic City. He got caught when somebody from VA beach saw a poster and went to the show. He knew something was amiss, because, sadly, Bill Deal had passed away a few months before.

  • I was in college 70s. I came home one day & one of the guys up the street had this blasting out(1970). I can still remember that instant of time. Music does more for your mind & soul than any other art.

  • wow...hadn't heard this one in decades!

  • A great Philly sound recording. Love it.

  • group had sum grate hits!!!

  • the part that starts at 0:48 gets me every time!!

  • Trees Lounge, baby!

  • My son always says to me Dad,you're lost in the sixties...I plead guilty to that cuz of songs just like this one keeps me there. Thanks for posting this classic!!!1

  • @BillJoyce155 YOU TELL EM BILLY.AND KEEP STAYING THERE.PEACE,DESIREE

  • @BillJoyce155 that isn't so bad. I born in 1982; never live the 60's but i love this music and i mean i thing only this are music cuz modern are only noise!

  • @BillJoyce155 ask that boy what he gets outta rap from these days

  • In the mid 1970's, Middle Tennessee State had a football coach named Ben Hurt. Guess what song the band played at the games? You are correct, sir!

  • good times, great song!!!!!!

  • Great song, I remember it vividly. I'd play my older brothers' 45s when he wasn't around and this was one that I enjoyed the hell out of. Two things that struck me were the "Shoop-dooby-dooby, shoop-dooby" background which made this modern song have a doo-wop element mixed with all that cool brass, and the picture jacket showing how big this group was. Nine members! I burned a CD for my grade school reunion last year with this song on it, and several of my classmates said "I'd forgotten this!"

  • Several of your classmates had "forgotten this" because since "I've Been Hurt" was a hit during summer '69 it never, in my experience, made it on to any oldies shows or oldies stations. But the yucky Bobby Goldsboro tune, "Honey", did.

Thanks to YouTube we can hear it whenever we want.

  • I have heard "I've Been Hurt" on oldies stations over the years, but you're right, it doesn't get the play it should. I have a love/hate attitude towards "Honey;" the orchestration is nice and the melody is pretty, but it's such a schmaltzy lyric, it could IMHO turn the stomach of a cannibal! I was at a friends' house last weekend with several other guys, and when nobody was looking, I went on youtube and started playing "Honey." They ALL said "shut that s**t off!" LOL

  • The reason you don't hear it on the oldies station isn't because it came out in 1969. I been listening to the oldies since 1993, back when they still played alot of doo-wop. And even then I heard songs from early 70's, like Edison Lighthouse, the beegees before they went disco. The reson you don't hear the wonderful Bill Deal is because the oldies are stuck on playing the same top 20 crap over and over. May I...peaked at #39. I've been hurt...peaked at #35. What kinda fool...peaked at #23

  • Cool song

  • OMG! I laughed so hard reading this, I always thought "Honey" was such a sappy, mandy pandy song, It really did turn my stomach when I heard it, I couldn't change or turn the radio off fast enough when it came on! Thanks for the great laugh!!!

  • Don't take all this too seriously. Beach Music is about being loud; movin' on the beach for me is 43 years ago. There is a lot of good times in these songs. Beach Music is about remembering what kind of fun you've had. I thought "Honey" was crap and I still do. I can't ever remember hearing this song on radio around here. There are Beach Music tunes that are crap but it's not about some religious/ philosophical enlight
