I think Myst 5 was a big disappointment... It looked like they went backwards after Revelation in every way: story, graphics, gameplay... The only Age I enjoyed in End of Ages was the observatory age. That was a cool one.
I liked Myst V. But it shouldn't have been the last chapter. They should at least have put in a cliffhanger. Releeshan isn't the end. It can't be. Nothing is perfect. Especially when just one guy named Atrus wrote it. I wonder how his grammar was. :P Woops spelling mistake. Releeshan has a bug. :P
In my mind, the first three Myst games were designed to run on any normal persons machine, with 5 they totally messed that up. but hey, no game series is perfect.
Myst 4 graphics at least made it worth it....wait....my first myst game was 4 and got me into the Myst franchise and totally worths it anyway from all points of view (gameplay, music, graphics).
Switching to realtime 3d was the most epic mistake made in the history of Myst.
The technology was and is not ready for it. Even the best computer-generated avatar with an actor-animated face is not equal to the filmed sprites of the first Myst game - let alone the actor sequences in Riven, Exile and Revelation.
Mirror's Edge looks like the technology is approaching the required level, but I think it will take another 5-10 years before CGI catches up. I'll expect a remake then, Cyan! :P
agree. I really wish, since Cyan is together again, they would do a proper ending, but Rand and Robyn both seem completely uninterested in Myst these days.
Yep, they just decided 'ah screw it, lets get rid of the myst series once and for all'. You would think from the way uru turned out that the tech is still not good enough to have beautiful graphics and have it fully controllable.
ha ha yeah... I think that we may have been blessed by having lack luster technology when Myst was made. If technology was what it is today when Myst came out, Myst wouldn't be successful. It's archaic looking slide show is almost "superior" than the 3D control. Like they say in the interview, they made it 1st person simply because it WAS a slide show, not because they wanted it that way. Imagine Myst 1 with 3D graphics in 3rd person perspective. How dull.
I actually played realmyst for the first time today. Utter garbage also. The controls to move around freely are useless when youre pretty much limited to the areas you were bound to in the original game.
What about Uru?!

myst V was a bet on 3d technology, personally i think i'd erase the records knowing they would make a live action myst V.

I love Riven and Uru: Path of the Shell. How come Uru isn't counted in the series?

@Arancaytar I was thinking that.
I mean, it doesn't have the same potential as playing recordings, does it?

My favourite was Exile, then Revelations, Myst, Riven and I have not tried EOA because it looks like crap

It IS crap. Absolutely horrible.

Does anyone else get strangely depressed after they do the conclusion to each game?
MYST Completely outclassed, and outsold every game up until and after that point for years
RIVEN was the most successful game of the year selling 2.2 million copies!
Myst III garnered critical respect and quickly topped PC charts
Myst IV good reviews and proved it was a worthy sequel
Myst V well obviously the video was made before it came out but my idea is... Myst V - kind of a disappointment.

Myst 5 was a horrible letdown. Realistic rendered graphics were myst's trait.

i haven't gotten a chance to play Myst 4 yet but i relay want to.
I think they should have waited for this generation to make Myst 5. it would have been amazing on the ps3 or Xbox 360.
