Rules are in place to make sure this is done correctly and for the most part it is. This is as humane as any commercial slaughterhouse, the only difference is this is out in the open, and other animals are killed behind closed doors where people apparently stop givin a fuck. Out of sight, out of mind it seems.

Shooting them is too high of a risk of bleeding to death, when their skull is so thin that one whack usually takes them out so they don't feel any more pain. @pricofilipinaamerica It's not fake, but it is more humane than shooting. The Atlantic Seal hunt takes place around the Magdalen islands and PEI from April to May. Hope that helps.

You're right. We give them 12-days to shed their cute whites and club them to death. I still feel it's wrong and unholy. The traditional people's ways, I understand. This feels unacceptable and brutal. Mammals made to watch each other butchered. Our gov't should take responsible methods to ensure these animals a decent death if it so believes they must die.

@oceangirlIam The traditional people's way is clubbing them. I should know my mother is Inuit/Ainu. Clubbing is the most humane way, I assure you. Shooting them is too high of a risk of bleeding to death, when their skull is so thin that one whack usually takes them out so they don't feel any more pain. The writhing on the ground after they die is a swimming reflex.
I don't agree with killing the babies but it's really hard to tell after a short period of time how old they are.

I respect this person for trying to defense these seals. Anyone who says that they aren't slaughtered, you're saying bullshit. I've gone through plenty of experiences of witnessing the slaughtering of baby seals myself, and it is inhumane and cruel. They are intelligent, loving, and calm creatures who DO get slaughtered by sealers who illegally kill them. YES, it may be illegal to kill whitecoats, but that doesn't mean it stops some cruel people from doing it anyway.

Okay, Im totally against seal clubbing, but this is ridiculous. BABY SEALS ARE NOT KILLED. Jesus Christ people. The people who kill them, kill theme for various reasons:
1. For fur and food because some people live in places where they dont have stores to buy them (ie. Nunavut)
2. To keep the population down so they don't die from starvation
PEOPLE DO NOT KILL BABY SEALS. And they aren't clubbed.
I love seals, I'm against clubbing but seriously...all that information in the description is CRAP

People are stupid for getting upset about something they refuse to educate themselves on, like the fact that it's illegal to kill the babies. They are not overhunted, they are not inhumanely killed.

They aren't just killed for their skins, the meat is also taken and sold around the world. So next time you want to shit on your keyboard, try looking something up first.
