Love their music. Believed many years ago, as they do, that polio vaccine was something good. But polio was never proved to be caused by a virus. The symptoms are typical for nerve attacking poisons, like the pesticides that permeated society during the big "epidemic". The USA (and probably other countries) exports forbidden pesticides to places like Africa.
@swahili77 Such nonsense!!!! Polio is a virus infection that excisted long before the invention af pesticides, and due to massive vaccination programs, polio has almost been eradicated world wide. Europe is by now polio free, but ther are still minor outbreaks in Asia.
Last year there was an outbreak in Tajikistan with about 450 victims that got lasting paralysys. but WHO did a tremendous job locating the transport corridors to and from Tajikistan, and started a massive vaccination campaign.Wwithin a month the outbreak had been stopped
@kirstenkreativ The "polio virus" existed, yes. But there were never "outbreaks" of "polio" until the pesticides came in the late 1800s with lead arsenates and progressing toward DDT. Popper who "proved" that the "virus caused polio" couldn't get a monkey infected by injecting blood from en infected monkey into another. He had to inject a rather massive shot of mashed brain tissue into the healthy monkeys brain to get polio symptoms.
I'm sure you mean well (as I did when I vaccinated my kids).
@kirstenkreativ I sure don't want to spread nonsense. Most Virii är relatively harmless. Some say that some of them can even play a positive role as information carriers. I have also seen and not contested that poliomyelitis virus has existed for at least 400 yrs. But during the period when many pathogens were causing epidemics, there were no polio epidemics. When polio epidemics started in US and hit well-off professionals families more than others, CDC said "They have so clean=no immunity" ??
@swahili77 Are you advocating that people need not get vaccinated against polio??? I can't seem to make out your exact point. You seem to be referencing the "hygiene hypothesis," which has been most robustly corroborated by the study of polio. Children were not getting the disease (because conditions were cleaner) when they were getting maternal antibodies (ostensibly a partial vaccine) from breast-milk. The naive immune response of older children to the virus could then led to poliomyelitis.
@videorprologic Unfortunately the room for comments is quite limited, so I had to erase a lot before posting. Anyhow the whole vaccination "belief" (which I also held) on closer examination doesn't seem robust at all, more rotten. Every one knows that some people will have serious adverse reactions to vaccines. But they "know" that they're "worth the risk". But none of the diseases we've been made to think they save us from were stopped by vaccines. So I say "don't vaccinate".
@swahili77 You use "adverse reactions" as a reason to justify not vaccinating? Unfortunately, the medical concept of "adverse reactions" is on a continuum of potential harm. If you understood this, you wouldn't frame your argument so naively. For ALL medical therapies, a substantial amount of work is done by medical professionals to identify and weigh potential harm of any treatment.
Your opinion is grossly uninformed, and most importantly, it is STUPENDOUSLY negligent to propagate.
@videorprologic I'm tempted to say "you use 'adverse reactions' as a reason to justify vaccinating", but I know that's not what you mean. :-) I also used to believe they were effective and "worth the risk". But if they are NOT effective, you are just left with the risks and costs. Google "DISPELLING VACCINATION MYTHS Phillips". It was a wakeup call for me. Don't wind up with your child dying of SIDS or handicapped by autism because you've believed the falsified history of vaccines. All the best!
@swahili77 Unfortunately, I spent 6 months designing a cancer vaccine to multiple myeloma so I'm quite immune to that bullshit. Complications of vaccination are either like the disease being vaccinated against or a form of autoimmunity. Guillain–Barré syndrome is an example of an autoimmune condition which can be induced by vaccination. Autism and SIDS are NOT; they are currently thought to be neurodevelopmental disorders affective social and respiratory drive capacities (respectively).
@videorprologic Please give an example of the "bullshit" you find in that Myths article!
Why did SIDS practically disappear in Japan when they started to delay vaccines till children were 2yrs?
In spite of the understandable desire of powerful parties to hide the autism-vaccination connection, there was a trial were it was found that vaccine had caused autism.
And what causes these "neurodevelopmental disorders", esp autism?
@swahili77 This is quite possibly the yanked out of context BULLSHIT I have ever read: "Research also indicates that vaccination commits immune cells to the specific antigens in a vaccine, rendering them incapable of reacting to other infections." Antigen specificity of EVERY adaptive immune response depends on this exact process, it's how the body responds to ANY foreign invader, not just vaccines.
There are plenty more examples of this half-truth bullshit, just not nearly enough characters...
Respond to this video... Be clear, neurodevelopmental disorders look NOTHING like autoimmune diseases. As for autism's underlying etiology, it appears to be extremely heritable being 25 times more likely in the twin of a newly diagnosed twin sibling (this ~means, genetic). As with most neurodevelopmental disorders, teratogens have shown to play a part especially if the exposure is in the 8 week window following fertilization.
Respond to this video... I know the first people I look to for scientific expertise are lawyers... Seriously, that's like saying ketchup is a vegetable because congress declared it so.
Interesting that this autopsy survey actually shows SIDS rates going up after 1975 (when the vaccination delay was implemented):
"Autopsy cases of sudden unexpected infant deaths examined at the Tokyo medical examiner's office, 1964-1993" Am J Forensic Med Pathol. 1996;17(1):32-7
@swahili77 I do not get my information about vaccines from "History;" I actually read Randomized-controlled and Cohort studies. For example, earlier this week I actually read the efficacy trial "HPV Vaccine against Anal HPV Infection and Anal Intraepithelial Neoplasia" (NEJM 365;17). In table 5 they reported every adverse event from redress at the injection site (58%) to the one patient who had an unrelated reaction to peanuts (0.4%). So, I have a MUCH higher standard for evidence than you.
@swahili77 In looking through your 'google link,' the author has such a pathetically superficial understanding of immunology, how is he convincing? He has no understanding of how the adaptive immune response works, no idea how limited we actually are in vaccine design, and sites at most ten scientific papers of which few are less than two decades old. With this standard of evidence I could convince you that HIV causes smallpox and drinking alcohol during pregnancy protects from FAS.
I don't understand any Swahili, or whatever language this was that they sang in (I'm pretty sure it was not French on this song), but their message is a very important one -- vaccinate your children against polio. Good rhythm and musicality as well.
The war-torn Democratic Republic of Congo is home to Staff Benda Bilili, one of the world’s most compelling ensembles. Founded by paraplegic street musicians, the band has overcome staggering obstacles. The four guitarists deliver a unique mélange of Congolese rumba combined with Cuban son, lilting reggae and low-down American funk, all while singing mostly in French and perched atop custom-built tricycles. Benda Bilili literally means “look beyond appearances”

Ironically the vaccine itself, is why you now have a choice. Must there be another worldwide polio epidemic for you all to understand the need for some vaccines. NOTHING in this life is without risks.
Dear brothers and sisters, disability is not inability. Staff Benda Bilili have a great musical talent. This song is very very educative and emotional. @kirstenkreativ Keep in mind:
*vaccine companies like GlaxoKlineSmith vaccine sales grow about 17-20%/yr.
*diagnosis is rather flexible
*a poison paralysis before vaccination can be called "polio"
*the same symptoms in a vaccinated person can be called "Guillian Barres Symptom"
*When the Salk vaccine wasn't giving the effects they hoped in the statistics, Eisenhower complained
*they changed the diagnostic criteria =>"success"
*we give 3 shots over several years
*Taj. outbreak stopped <1month!?!
