  • I keep hearing everyone dissin rolands new gaia synth, comparing it to the 101. Maybe if you dont mind toiling for hours to get decent sound I would go this way but the ease of use and creation of a plethora of sound makes gaia a very viable synth I believe.

  • @solodragun

I've never played a GAIA SH-01. Looking at it, the controls don't look any less toilsome than the SH-101's; at this point I can get the exact sound I want from my SH-101 in a matter of seconds. I fuck with a couple of VA synths, and as little of a snob as I am about synth sound, VAs just can't match analogs. Recently, though, the lack of MIDI control for old analogs is bugging me more and more. VA MIDI modulation is possibly more important than the raw sound of the osc/filters.

  • and than afterwards playing "G a l a x i a n" at the local lunapark pub or cantine!! LoL!!!

  • Excellent demo- thanks so m. for this. I just got one of these ($700- worth every penny). I am unable to get it to sync to my Boss DR55 which does output +5v, which is what the 101 should accept... What should my settings be on the keyboard to sync teh arp or sequencer to the DR55? Thanks for any help on this...

  • His voice is so calm.. it's mesmerizing...

  • @VectronMusic I feel like I'm traveling in an analog airplane and he's our pilot.

  • dubstep moment

  • what about saw width modulation? :O

  • 5:04 80s video games! LOL! :D

  • is $700-$800 a good deal on a SH-101?

  • @LaugermanPROductions

Unfortunately, that seems to be about the "going rate" a lot of the time these days. Butit's not a good deal. You should still be able to get one for under $500 if you want to be a tireless hunter about it.

  • @LaugermanPROductions nope...not to me anyway ..ill buy it for $500 max

  • Hi , Ive just been viewing one of these today . Everything worked ok but the synth was quite dirty and in the battery compartment I noticed some rust , also 3 of the slider buttons where bent over to the left , The battery compartment concerned me somewhat . How big a problem is this ? Ive owned one of these before and love the sound , The price was cheap enough compared to others up for sale these days , but still I wouldnt pay any more than what the asking price was (£250) for any Sh-101

  • i have one, and i don't know how to control the tempo (arpegios & lfo) from an external source, i've heard that it is possible with midi clock

    can anyone please explain

i am unexperienced with cv in and midi clock

  • some of this stuff sound like the VIC-20

  • your intro is very useful for me, Thanks.

  • Very good and informative demo

    Thanks

  • i bought mine for 460 euro on ebay

  • how much does that cost. i want that badly!

  • you can get one on ebay for between $700-$1000

  • You can get one for less than €300 on ebay.

  • no you can't.

    only if it's broken.

  • I'm in the USA and paid $425 for this one (good-condition; tuning slightly unsteady; had to get the service manual and adjust some pots under the hood) with the handle grip and leather strap two years ago. That is an unusually good deal. The cheapest I've ever seen on eBay was from an estate sale, for $400 even. One of the eBay synth huckster "stores" bought it and instantly re-listed it for like $850.

  • @DrIntrebec i want one pretty badly, ive been tracking it on ebay for awhile and they usually sell around 500-600. some ppl have some reall expensive ones on sale around 900+ but those dont seem to sell

  • I notice that the 1st thing that you mention is the octave range capabilities.

This instrument has more octave capabilities then the number of keys represents.

As a matter of fact, if the pitch bend wheel goes one whole octave in each direction that would give this keyboard more than 7 octaves worth of capable range.

What would that be.......76 keys on a standard piano.....................84 keys on a standard piano........Lots of octave range for such a small box.

  • a lot of 80s pop bands use this syth and MOOG

  • This is great, my friend. Any chance of you doing the same kind of tutorial vid with a Juno 106?

  • thank you thank you! Very informative. I have an sh 101. Really made the concepts clear!

  • Great vid. thanks. It sounds like Grandaddy use this synth too

  • i think you should make more vids if you have any other synths!

  • Great video. Very helpful!

  • thanks man

    i needed that

  • cheers :)

  • thanks man!! that was educational

  • Also, Gate and Gate+Trig affects the note-priority, which is handy.

  • hey man, kudos for a nice demo/tutorial!

  • *orgasms*

  • that was brilliant! Just the demo I was looking for :D

  • Nice.. Good work fella :)

  • awesome! cheers
