Not under-rated. Anyone who listened to him knew how great he was. But like so many other great artists, the radio wouldn't touch him, so he wasn't well known. But he was rated "incredible" from the start!
Up until a year or so ago, if i could go back and see one deceased musician, i for sure would have gone to see Jimi Hendrix. Now i know i would definitely go and see Michael Hedges because there's no one else who even slightly compares to his brilliance.
I used to drive by the place where he crashed. I saw him play on the street in Palo Alto for free..outside the Stanford theater...and he was amazing....and people were walking past him, not knowing what to make of him. He was magic...he spoke to our souls directly. He was a pure man. I fucking miss him so much.
Has anyone else ever had this much talent? I know this gets used a lot, so much that it has become cliche, but Hedges was on such a higher plane than anyone else.

I was lucky enough to see Michael Hedges in the early 90's at a small supper club in New Jersey. An amazing talent and such a loss...

It's funny how he's just fooling around with this song yet he still sings miles ahead of most singers live.
