  • I also needed to say about teaching true Self Defense lets say some girl comes into my Dojo and I teach her just whatever and not how to Escape, redirect, Circle, Drop my level, & Move. Then they get Raped or hurt then I failed in my Job of teaching true self defense. I feel you need to help people Understand Escape, redirect, Circle, Drop my level, & Move.

  • Mr Hatfield, your comment above does not include any objective analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of the video. Please at least try to relate the video to the steps in your own system, then give specific advice on where they fall short and why, and what would be better. BTW / your home page says you are 3rd dan, is that a Master rank in your system? Your 10th dan grandmaster is impressively anonymous in this Internet age, is there some footage of him in action? Curious. Regards, Tony

  • Thanks Tony and let me answer some of this stuff. I really like exactly how they are teaching and really thank them for all the good concepts and ideas they show. I wanted to explain in the style of Hapkido that I teach and study I am in charge of all the Director of Teq in our Federation. I am a 3rd Dan in Hapkido but at the time I was asked to test for my 4th Dan and that is a Master. I am a Hapkido teacher with an emphasis in ground grapling.

  • I am am 4th Dan in Hapkido, 4th Dan in Jui-Jitsu, 1st Dan Judo, 1st Dan Kenpo, I have wrestled Greco and Freestyle im 3 time State Champ, National Champ, and College wrestler, and im an All-American. I teach through my understanding every kind of throw, all kinds of takedowns, from that point I teach every kind of Wrestling position that leads to every and any kind of Hapkido movement or Jui-Jitsu Holds. I have 37 years of teaching and competing and over 20 years of Hapkido and Jui-Jitsu.

  • Master Hatfield, thanks for the information. I sincerely hope you'll have the opportunity to upload some videos sharing your experience and insights. Best regards, Tony

  • Master Tony,

I wanted to let you know that im honored to have you as a friend. I will do some good Videos, if you would let me know what you would like to have me to show on what kind of position or understanding please dont hesitate and let me know.

    Thanks,

    Ty Hatfield

  • Master Hatfield, I am not a master myself - just Tony is fine, thanks. I think Nebraska Hapkido Association are here providing an excellent analysis of this vital scenario of women defending against hooks - I'm sure any uploads you have working in with their ideas or expressing your own would be of interest to myself and others. I'll subscribe to your channel... please feel free to message be directly at any time. Regards, Tony

  • Dear Hapkido brother I again agree. My Grandmaster is Ahn Hyun Whan

4 time World Asian Heavyweight Thai Boxing Champion

    10th dan Hapkido

7th dan Jyck Tuki/ Thai Boxing

I asked him with other Masters at our last Black Belt test should we keep doing the same stuff or trying to improve our teq and fighting style with other styles even changing or forms to be more practical and since every day we do forms but do practical applications testing the truth of our form.

  • @MasterHatfield One for bullshido I think. A 4 time Korean Muay Thai world Champion, dont you mean TKD?

  • @finkabaht1 no it is this:

    Ahn Hyun Whan

4 time World Asian Heavyweight Thai Boxing Champion

    10th dan Hapkido

7th dan Jyck Tuki/ Thai Boxing

  • you should do a video on the follow up to that move, cuz i sure hope she doesnt stay in that postion were her head is by the attacker's other hand, facing the arm. but great video in itself

  • Not to belabor the point....but the technique works best against an attacker with one arm.....perhaps i've just spent too many years boxing.

  • If you think a boxer would attack like this, you've been going to the wrong gym--this is really bad technique for a boxer. :)

Again, a street brawl/duel between two males who tacitly agree on unspoken rules (which is a standard "streetfight") is nothing like a women's self-defense situation. Did you happen to watch all three parts of the response? If so, what do you think of the last defense response shown? (I believe that we did say here that this _isn't_ the optimum response.)

  • I do agree that given any possible variation on the attacker, I'd prefer to defend against a person with only one arm, though I'd also prefer that they were blind, deaf, and paralyzed. :)

  • I'd prefer unconscious myself! :))

  • A friend of mine once said that to prepare for an attacker he'd prefer 600 yards and a .308, though he'd settle for 50 yards and a flamethrower.

I'm thinking that you are right, though---unconscious would be even easier. :)

  • That was actually my point....a boxer wouldn't attack that way, nor do most brawlers. I did subsequently watch all three parts, and my criticism was a bit premature.

  • Not a problem---the whole reason I'm doing this (posting videos with commentary) is to make my students do some critical thinking, and not just automatically accept what a higher belt says . Hopefully they are all reading this discussion.

I do agree with you that for the majority of men's self-defense situations, something else is much more likely to be effective. (Though a variation of what is in the third video can work quite well vs street brawlers, IMO/E.)

  • Yeah that was great. Thanks for sharing. I think Expert Village doesn't always have the best video's. I have found many that are good. But a few were not very good at all. Thanks for responding friend.
