How edgy and surreal... Elegantly defying the boundaries of what's right and wrong in a way only Bryan Ferry could put it. The tune itself is one of a kind, and the artist hit the bull's eye with his image... just imagine comparing him to a beach guy wearing speedos, lol. Both the sound and the video are truly inspiring... There is something about true art that simply doesn't need explanation.
to jmzbnd7....that's exactly how I listened to this song...hot summer nights...out for a very late drive to escape the heat...and it's still what i think of
I went to see him on the Mamouna Tour twice ... once in Wolverhampton and once in Aston ... Totally blew me away ... Have loved Bryan/Roxy since I was 11 years old and I'm now 50 and still love his music xx When is he on tour again? I am having withdrawal symptoms and need a fix of his totally brilliant music ... and of course his sexy moves xx
rhythmic..haunting whatever? I like to play this tune on a summer night..2am...top down in my convertible on highway 95...streetlights going by...en route to a casino..with a niiiice friend...j
I've been listening to this song for years for it's rythmic, haunting sound...not really ever thinking too much of what it may actually mean. I still don't really understand the song or the video. Untimately it matters not to me though. It's a cool tune from a musical standpoint...and that's good enough for me.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Tureq clothing doesn't really suit Bryan does it , he looks ridiculous. This video is extraordinarily sexist isn't it. Strange harems to which women are dragged in chains....Ohh how very feminist. Well as a woman and a black woman at that I don't quite see how the politics of oppression is sexually alluring and I wouldn't like to really meet the people who do....The makers of this video included.
Sorry, much as I love Ferry as well as his work w/RM, I have to agree w/Fairyslippers. I scrolled down after watching a bit 'cos I love the song and didn't see the point in continuing. (And yes, it IS a super driving song, esp. in summer--even w/o the top down). Clicking back to the Avalon vid, which I DO love.
BTW, I think the problem isn't a lack of imagination; it's that there could be more left to the imagination.
Brian has had so many great songs and instrumental pieces over the years. This has to be one of his coolest, IMO. Most song of this pace and feel you just sit around waiting for it to break out or change up somehow. Yet this peice just glides along perfectly never needing to change up.
I truly love this song, and Bryan Ferry's voice. BUT this video is very disturbing and very satanic and dark--I fully believe like Sodom and Gomorrah to the full hilt.
Bryan, you are such a suave, classy guy and you could have had the same subjects without the occultish gore presented here. Still love your songs, though.
Dark & disturbing is a big part of what Bryan Ferry is all about. The suave image he projects is partly tongue-in-cheek (and partly the fact that he knows what people are buying).
wp6265 - Although your comment may be your opinion, I suggest you stick the album on a decent stereo and listen to it several times over. I think you'll find that it is atleast technically amazing, even if still not to your liking. What you actually said is that Ferry had lost his 'majic' with this album, not as I think you were trying to say ''this album isn't as interesting as the others''.
This is very much Depeche Mode - & I mean that with honours to both, BF in a toga, god doesn't he just look ever georgeous in that one... brill vid too!
You find it horrible too , thank goodness. It is overdone and frankly quite alarming. I do wish Bryan would stop all this "I respect women" stuff and explain the images in this nasty little piece. As for ant arty overtones it's pur "Mills and Boon" fantasy stuff but I am not sure for women or men. Who cares if a guy's hair is great if his mind id full of this ?
I saw the Mamouna tour when it played at Massey Hall in Toronto. It was great. Is there any video of this tour? There was also a performance on Letterman that was amazing. Thanks for the posting.
Couldn't agree more. As the refrain from the last Duran Duran tour said.. "styles change--style doesn't" ...and this album, track and this video show, Bryan Ferry has style.

Guys, it's only a music video, no need to take it so seriously! Anyway, it's the song you should be focusing on, not the video!

This is one of the most diturbing and almost vile videos Bryan hasused. It looks orientalist, sexist and frankly nauseating.

Hypnotic, I think only Ferry could pull this off, video was new on me, very striking imagery especially the little monkey!
