Sadly, the Emerson's real-time video performance of this work has been stricken from You Tube, so I can no longer compare the two directly; I only remember how much I enjoyed the Emerson's version and would like to have access to that video again. Borodin's performance is great, but I can't watch them play it. . .
I like borodins version MUCH more than the emerson version on youtube. emerson push to much emotion in it where there is no use for, instead of letting the notes do it themselves. borodins sound also is so clear and "clean" and they have the ability to do this "whispering" sound which brings out a whole new world compared to emerson. emerson seem to be trying to play in a russian way, but they just waste it. I love borodin quartet :-)
This performance certainly didn't make any flies drop dead in mid-air but I am still thoroughly enjoying it.
