@FUACLU reliablility? yeah right. My 745i had to have the engine pulled to fix a simple problem. Said problem was so common that there was a class action lawsuit against BMW for it. It would have been over $8000 to fix if BMW didn't pay for it. Also resale value? My '86 vette is worth between $20- $30k right now. Find an '86 BMW that's worth that much.

@vortex3d get your facts straight before you go spewing shit you have no clue about. a 2004 z06 was only 52k back in 2004, which was around 5k more than an m3 coupe at the time and actually cheaper than an m3 convertible. not only that, but the z06 is a hell of a lot faster. in 2008 the m3 was only marginally faster than a c5 z06, but actually slower on the track(nurburgring). the e92 m3's top speed being the only thing significantly faster, but where the hell are you going to go over 175 mph?

@V8Supercar1 Also, you're forgetting exactly why the M3 and the 3 series has been on Car and Divers top ten list for 21 years; the way it feels. Yea i know it's not the fastest, but driving one is absolute perfection. Mustangs are too numb feeling, too insulating, while the 3 series it's like you're plugged directly into the engine and suspension. And when it comes out the 2013 GT500 is supposed to be $65,000+ and i was mistaken, the new 3 series is due out in 2012.

Some people find the faster car to be more valuable to them. And of course some prefer the better interior. Some people prefer the cheaper price tag + performance. Some prefer the better interior + performance. To me value is all opinion.
@V8Supercar1 No i mean value as in resale value. The mustangs drop very quickly in the first 5 years. the M3 will drop then level out pretty well. A decent 1990 M3 will run about $10,000 stock. A mildly modified 1990 5.0 is $6,000, and that seems to be the average. and i agree, it usually does come to faster vs nicer, and the stangs can be quick, but they are cheaply built, and the only way to get an actually fast mustang is put a lot of money into it.
@ihave5issues: Mustangs are never gonna have great resale value simply because they sell so well brand new here. They are the best selling sports car brand of all time here in the U.S. They are not cheaply built. They are built with a certain budget in mind. M3s cost more, so of course used, they are gonna be worth more.

That's one of the main staples of the mustang line: a cheap muscle car. the engine and drive train are decent, but the rest of the car lacks in comparison. I'm pretty sure most of the body panels are aluminum, but the interior is silly and plastic and flimsy. they are also slightly prone to killing the transmission in the automatics (who want one of those anyway?)
@ihave5issues: Well, its gonna have some plastic in it. No need to complain about plastic in a 30k car with a 412HP engine in it. Now if this was a 50k car, then those things would be an issue. The main focus of mustangs is performance for the price. I can garantee you most people here that buy them don't care about body panels or even the interior.

@ihave5issues: There is plenty of older 1990s mustangs still on the roads here in the U.S.and I don't see any of them ripping themselves to shreds. And there is a reason why there are so many special editions. They just simply sell so well. And speaking of special editions. Last year their was a special edition Lee Iacocca mustang that sold for over 100k in an auction.
@V8Supercar1 there are plenty of 90s mustangs on the road, but all the ones ive known have usually had a lot of major repairs, (engine block, trans) and didnt quite run as well as they could. And the reasons for all the special editions is very simple; MONEY. they put a few little upgrades and some stickers and charge you five grand extra. it's stupid. mustangs havent been about performance for years. its only about selling as many as they can and flooding the market with low quality knock offs.

They did it with the same tires and suspension that comes with the car. @V8Supercar1 Well, if you mean a base model mustang, and a new car, there's the Mazda RX8, which you cannot deny is a fantastic car, with it's wonderful rotary engine, it starts at about the same as a base stang and i would much rather have one because it's much more capable. i would come up with more, but it's 3 am and im sleepy. i'll look up the others tomorrow.
@ihave5issues: Yeah, the Mazda RX8 is a nice car, and I actually have interest in owning it someday. But however, the msrp for a base RX8 is 26,795 and the msrp for a base mustang is 22,310. The mustang has 305 HP the RX8 has 232 HP. Even though the mustang has more HP, it also gets better fuel economy. (city 19 / hwy 29) vs. the RX8 (16 city / 22 hwy). Even though I think the RX8 has a niceor interior. I'm not so sure how much better it really is vs. the mustang's.
@V8Supercar1 But the RX8 is as fast or faster than the stang, and it's only a small bit more expensive. The V6 stang is $22,000, and it's gonna get beat by plenty of cars. The V8 starts at $29,000, and the Boss is $40,000, so if you get the cheap stang you're not getting much performance at all. you'll have to spent thirty grand to get anywhere.
@ihave5issues: I really wish I could see some kinda performance test between the 2 but there are just no recent ones here on youtube. I can admit its interesting though. The mustang has 305hp and the RX8 has 232hp. But the mustang weighs roughly 388lbs more. the only thing I have against the RX8 is its fuel economy. I guess I'm just not sold on the rotary engine. I do love the fact that it revs up all the way to 8500rpm though. But the fuel economy definitely needs to improve

And I really didn't think the GT 5.0 would equal the performance of the M3, because I know the GT 5.0 has a lesser suspension than the Boss 302 and weighs a little more. Without question the M3 has a better interior, but the GT 5.0 equals its performance. The GT 5.0 starts at 29k and the M3 starts at 55k. So it really is an interesting comparison.

Not surprised at all, I own a 2003 Z06 and these car weigh right at 3000lbs with the removal off the three bullshit kits in the trunk and are geared similarly to the ZR1. An M3/New CTS-V has no chance against a stock C5 Z06. Cars bone stock are a lot faster than most people think.

The Z06 has 82HP more than the E92 M3, is 200 lbs. lighter and costs more than 20k more. But the M3 will smoke and do turns around any regular Corvette.

I think the problem was that the passenger in the M3 weighed about 2000 lbs. :-) I don't know what the point of this video was, a slightly modified C5 Z06 will run an 11 second quarter mile all day long, the M3 will have trouble breaking into the 13s. a stock e9x m3 vs a stock z06 (last generation like the one in this video) would be close, but an m3 has no chance against a tuned/modded z06 as its clear to see in this video. those american muscle engines love bolt-on modifications and there is no replacement for displacement! PS this is all coming from a proud e92 m3 owner.

Yes BMW under rates the power and over rates the weight. Then the car magazines go and underreport the performance, and even YouTube underreports the performance relative to the Corvette. Does that make you feel better? (Or at least competitive?)

@FUACLU reliablility? yeah right. My 745i had to have the engine pulled to fix a simple problem. Said problem was so common that there was a class action lawsuit against BMW for it. It would have been over $8000 to fix if BMW didn't pay for it. Also resale value? My '86 vette is worth between $20- $30k right now. Find an '86 BMW that's worth that much.

@vortex3d its not about 'fairness'. These races are just ppl putting their cars up against other cars. We all think our car is the best, and we all make random excuses when we lose. When it boils down to it, if your car can take a stock to light modded vette of any year C5 and up, its got some balls. Vettes are simply out of the box sports cars. My 94Z28 with 400rwhp took stock C5's, the guy didnt make an excuse, he just said 'damn..nice race' and thumbed up, and drove off..i miss her :(

This is a ridiculous comparison. To be fair, you have to match price, weight and bhp. If you spend 20 extra grand to mod the m3, it should equal the price tag of that Vette. @vortex3d get your facts straight before you go spewing shit you have no clue about. a 2004 z06 was only 52k back in 2004, which was around 5k more than an m3 coupe at the time and actually cheaper than an m3 convertible. not only that, but the z06 is a hell of a lot faster. in 2008 the m3 was only marginally faster than a c5 z06, but actually slower on the track(nurburgring). the e92 m3's top speed being the only thing significantly faster, but where the hell are you going to go over 175 mph?

@krocialblack the reason the vette is cheap is because it's built cheap. the engine is decent. the body is plastic and the interior sucks. the BMW is a small bit slower, but for that you get a wonderful interior and a car that will still kick ass with 500,000 miles on it with little more than oil, tires, and brakes every now and then. vettes fall apart disturbingly fast because of all the plastic. but go ahead, sprout your internet wisdom for all to hear about a subject you know nothing about.

@ihave5issues The BMW is made of just as much plastic as any other car, BMW's are nothing more than a over rated German badge, over glorified by lack minded teens and arrogant adults. I've been in BMW's before, and trust me, they're not that special. And I see a HELL of a lot more beamers on tow trucks than I do Corvettes. My vette has well over 150,000 miles and still running strong, and even if something breaks it'll be cheaper than the list of repair bills you pay for your BMW.

Ford is releasing their new 2013 GT500 with 650HP, upgraded tranny, adjustable suspension settings, launch control, the boss 302's suspension and a top speed of 200mph.

@ihave5issues: Of course the M3 has a nicer interior. I'm not disputing that. Look at the price differences between the cars. BMW m3 msrp is 54 grand, a Mustang GT 5.0 is 29 grand. Considering the price and performance for the mustang, the interior is fine. Sexier? Thats only an opinion. Will last 100k mile longer? Only time can tell. Because the new 5.0 motors are tortured tested. Secondly, the new 2013 GT500 will be here in the spring of 2012. Where do I get my info? From Ford.

@V8Supercar1 Also, you're forgetting exactly why the M3 and the 3 series has been on Car and Divers top ten list for 21 years; the way it feels. Yea i know it's not the fastest, but driving one is absolute perfection. Mustangs are too numb feeling, too insulating, while the 3 series it's like you're plugged directly into the engine and suspension. And when it comes out the 2013 GT500 is supposed to be $65,000+ and i was mistaken, the new 3 series is due out in 2012.

Some people find the faster car to be more valuable to them. And of course some prefer the better interior. Some people prefer the cheaper price tag + performance. Some prefer the better interior + performance. To me value is all opinion.

@V8Supercar1 No i mean value as in resale value. The mustangs drop very quickly in the first 5 years. the M3 will drop then level out pretty well. A decent 1990 M3 will run about $10,000 stock. A mildly modified 1990 5.0 is $6,000, and that seems to be the average. and i agree, it usually does come to faster vs nicer, and the stangs can be quick, but they are cheaply built, and the only way to get an actually fast mustang is put a lot of money into it.

They are the best selling sports car brand of all time here in the U.S. They are not cheaply built. They are built with a certain budget in mind. M3s cost more, so of course used, they are gonna be worth more.

That's one of the main staples of the mustang line: a cheap muscle car. the engine and drive train are decent, but the rest of the car lacks in comparison. I'm pretty sure most of the body panels are aluminum, but the interior is silly and plastic and flimsy. they are also slightly prone to killing the transmission in the automatics (who want one of those anyway?)

The main focus of mustangs is performance for the price. I can garantee you most people here that buy them don't care about body panels or even the interior.

I still maintain they just aren't very good sports cars. Sure, they're a hoot, but so is an old Buick LaSabre. the only way a mustang is any good for the price is if you go buy one of the $80,000 special editions, and even then, they're only on par with the rest of the world's sports cars

And there is a reason why there are so many special editions. They just simply sell so well. And speaking of special editions. Last year their was a special edition Lee Iacocca mustang that sold for over 100k in an auction.

@V8Supercar1 there are plenty of 90s mustangs on the road, but all the ones ive known have usually had a lot of major repairs, (engine block, trans) and didnt quite run as well as they could. And the reasons for all the special editions is very simple; MONEY. they put a few little upgrades and some stickers and charge you five grand extra. it's stupid. mustangs havent been about performance for years. its only about selling as many as they can and flooding the market with low quality knock offs.

@V8Supercar1 ok i admit the boss is one of the almost decent ones, even if it's just a cheap trick playing off the old GOOD Boss. and i'd like to see it outperform an M3. And no, i wont accept some numbers taken off the ford website about a pro driver posting lap times. I sincerely doubt that on a regular track, regular tires, with a normal person, even one with some racing experience, that it could. Suspension mods and all, a Stang goes in a straight line, that what it was built for, thats it.

They did it with the same tires and suspension that comes with the car. @ihave5issues: Yeah, the Mazda RX8 is a nice car, and I actually have interest in owning it someday. But however, the msrp for a base RX8 is 26,795 and the msrp for a base mustang is 22,310. The mustang has 305 HP the RX8 has 232 HP. Even though the mustang has more HP, it also gets better fuel economy. (city 19 / hwy 29) vs. the RX8 (16 city / 22 hwy). Even though I think the RX8 has a niceor interior. I'm not so sure how much better it really is vs. the mustang's.

@V8Supercar1 But the RX8 is as fast or faster than the stang, and it's only a small bit more expensive. The V6 stang is $22,000, and it's gonna get beat by plenty of cars. The V8 starts at $29,000, and the Boss is $40,000, so if you get the cheap stang you're not getting much performance at all. you'll have to spent thirty grand to get anywhere.

@ihave5issues: I really wish I could see some kinda performance test between the 2 but there are just no recent ones here on youtube. I can admit its interesting though. The mustang has 305hp and the RX8 has 232hp. But the mustang weighs roughly 388lbs more. the only thing I have against the RX8 is its fuel economy. I guess I'm just not sold on the rotary engine. I do love the fact that it revs up all the way to 8500rpm though. But the fuel economy definitely needs to improve

And I really didn't think the GT 5.0 would equal the performance of the M3, because I know the GT 5.0 has a lesser suspension than the Boss 302 and weighs a little more. Without question the M3 has a better interior, but the GT 5.0 equals its performance. The GT 5.0 starts at 29k and the M3 starts at 55k. So it really is an interesting comparison.

Not surprised at all, I own a 2003 Z06 and these car weigh right at 3000lbs with the removal off the three bullshit kits in the trunk and are geared similarly to the ZR1. An M3/New CTS-V has no chance against a stock C5 Z06. Cars bone stock are a lot faster than most people think.

Anyone can soup up a car tht wins a quarter mile but blows an engine everytme. recently The Gt race w all D fastest production auto's had 3 vets, the race is 8 hrs, all 3 vets broke down D 1st one with in the 1st hr, the 2nd 1 in 1 1/2 hrs and the 3rd lasted 4 hrs. before defending it do some homework.

The ZR1 will out perform any Porsche for a similar price on any test. That's not an opinion, that's a fact. I'm not biased towards american cars. I owned a couple Porsches before I got my Vette.

I think the problem was that the passenger in the M3 weighed about 2000 lbs. :-) I don't know what the point of this video was, a slightly modified C5 Z06 will run an 11 second quarter mile all day long, the M3 will have trouble breaking into the 13s. The M3 should looking to race other family sedans, not full on sports cars. Good try though. lol

a stock e9x m3 vs a stock z06 (last generation like the one in this video) would be close, but an m3 has no chance against a tuned/modded z06 as its clear to see in this video. those american muscle engines love bolt-on modifications and there is no replacement for displacement! Yes BMW under rates the power and over rates the weight. Then the car magazines go and underreport the performance, and even YouTube underreports the performance relative to the Corvette. Does that make you feel better? (Or at least competitive?)

@RealWebologist lol the worst part is... the E92 M3 puts as much power down on a dyno as a C6. Obviously the torque is way less but as usual, BMW under rates their cars due to many reason.
