Great sound and playing as always. Check out the clip of my les paul goldtop with Sheptone BK in the bridge. Also have a clip of my new Tokai LS135 inspired by seeing your clips. Keep them coming. Cheers.
Your guitar sounds fantastic. Could you answer a couple of questions forme? Is the build quality as good as Gibson (I'm hoping better)? Can you tell me where you bought it? i've only been able to find Tokai's on ebay. Are there any stores that could import them into the US? Thanks
@boscoblue on par with a few of the R8/R9 VOS gibsons, better quality (on average) than just about any non VOS or non reissue's from gibson but there are always those rare exceptions.. I just couldn't find any without the absurd VOS price tag.
Only can get them on ebay as selling them here is probably against the law due to copyrights. I got mine from yashoomusic I believe was the seller. There are lots of fake tokai's so be careful. yashoo is legit.
@FastRedPonyCar ,,,You can Import Tokais' from Richtone music in the UK, they are a huge dealer who specialise in export of them. I've just got an LS 100Q.
Ive got a Greco LP, wich as you probobly know is similar to Tokai, and a Gibson R6. I can tell you honestly that the Gibson has NOTHING on the Greco. Its just so awesome. Also got myself a Nitro recently, but i have no cab to play it trough yet. Hearing this makes the wait just so much worse =p Sweet playing!
@orsvend yeah man greco's, burneys, Edwards, etc... all phenomenal alternatives!
I used my port city oversized 212 cab at our gig on cinco de mayo with the nitro and it was spectacular. weighs FAR less than my splawn 412 but still pumps out just as much tone/volume and sound projection but is a bit more controllable.
@FastRedPonyCar They still do, rare pieces though. They're completely handmade by one luthier. They run about 5k. True to the original 59s is what i hear.
@JimmyPage968 Eh... too much. I can get one hand made by a guy up in ohio for less than half that with plenty of custom options like fretboard radius, stainless jumbo frets, antique aging, etc... dude is a ghost builder fors for numerous "gibson endorsed" artists like the guys from pearl jam and bob seiger among others. I've seen a couple of his instruments and they are absolute masterpieces.
Great sounding pickup. Man, it's clear sounding. I found out from Harmony Central that the pickups output is a little stronger if you remove the silver pickup cover. That's good to know.
to what model of Gibson Les Paul would correspond the Tokai LS150? If know the Gibson's equivalence for LS135 please respond too because i'm thinking of bying one of these. Thank you!!!
From the dozen or so gibsons I've played when I was shopping for this and after playing it in the stores with all the higher end gibsons, I'd safely say it's closest to the VOS 58/59 reissue models.
Seems like you could go your whole life and not find a better guitar than this one. There's a LS150 in VF with my name on it, and I'm becoming ever more convinced that I must have it.
Yeah man it's definately a keeper. Especially considering the fact that I've played the R8/R9 VOS gibsons and found nothing compelling me to sell this and get one of those and I have no real desire to own an old gibson either as I have no real collector desire for an old one. I just want more of these! A gold top P90 tokai will be my next one.
I helped my friend get a Joe Satriani bolt on with soapbar pickups from ebay. It was only $500. Soapbars, mahogany body, red color. You might check one out. They only made them for a few years. It has a really bluesy sound.
i need to get a set of these for my new 59 Les Paul reissue. i cant stand the burstbuckers. ive got seymour duncan antiquities in my other paul.. these pickups sound great, since BK is one of my favs haha

Wow, your guitar was kickass before, but now it's pretty much perfect from what I can tell!

@OneLoveJK the only thing it needs is some locking tuners. I can't stand the kluson type tuners tokai and gibson use

@JimmyPage968 Does ESP still make those in the japanese market? or did they pretty much just switch to only doing edwards?

They sound noticeably better than the Tokai MKIIs. How do you feel about the comparison?
thecaveofthedead 2 years ago
less compressed of a sound. more open and clearer. In Tokai's defense they're still very good for generic but can't compete with hand wound PAFs'.
