  • What a great group they were and this song brings back a lot of memories for me..Pete Ham was a great singer and a shame he took his own life so young

  • washing dishes with badfingers? 1:35

  • Great rock song I remember from 1971.

  • one of the best rock roll songs !!

  • Pete Ham was a true rockstar.

  • i like

  • Didn't this band start out as studio musician's for the Beatles Apple Records and played on George Harrison's All things Must Pass album?

  • @HoosierLine

They weren't full time studio musicians but yes they played on George's All Things Must Pass, as well as John's Imagine album and did some background vocals on Ringo's single "It Don't Come Easy."

  • Nice !

  • "proper job"

  • @grassy00' ,well said I agree totally and what a Sade ending to the story

  • what a great band. The melody makers of yesteryear. They rank up there with the best bands and are the most and i mean the MOST underated band in the history of rock and roll. They deserved better from the music buisness.Seems like this band put 110% in and got nothing in return.Who knows maybe this band was just a little too good for the industry itself.

  • I recall playing with an erector set-type toy when this was played again and again on radio. Funny how we associate things.

    Thanks loads!

    Jon (goneglobal35com)

  • Badfinger = Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame

  • Great band with a very tragic side. Love their music.

  • man the singers voice is da beast....brill old band

  • I was a kid, but I remember it being released, and I remember hardly being able to wait for their next songs to be released! when you hear about 'the good old days', THIS is EXACTLY what they're talking about!!! :) Peace & Rock On Friends!

  • Ladies & Gentlemen, this is rock & roll.

  • Never seen this before. I love it. posting on my FB.

  • i get cold chills listening to this, man i wish i could go back in time,,,,,,,,,,

  • This band made some of the best music....what a shame two of them lost their lives because of corporate greed mismanagement.

  • There were so many superb songs/writers in the 70's compared to the rubbish we have to endure these days and Badfinger must rank as one of the finest bands around and still sound sooooo good.

  • Greatest pop song of all time - period.

  • Just beautiful. Thank you.

  • Wow thanks for posting this~! This song was pop top, when i was a teen and just loved it Then and Now~!♥ Classic~! -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-

  • best song of the 20th century?? I'd say so! how is it these guys not in the R&R Hall of Fame yet??

Such a beautiful song, a ballad of unconditional love... NO MATTER WHAT YOU ARE... I WILL ALWAYS BE WITH YOU. Go Pete, your voice lives on, bless you baby

  • @211FairyTale Pick the worst of the beatles and it is better.

  • @TheLonersManual I am just saying this song embodies SO MUCH... enormous talent, raw emotion, and amazing musical skill!! The comparisons to the Beatles have all been done. Everyone speculates. It gets old.

Just saying this is a BEAUTIFUL song, much under rated.

  • @211FairyTale Are you trying to say I am unoriginal for thinking the beatles are the best band ever? Well, then so be it.... I feel what I feel whether you like it or not... Deal with it.I don't care if you think it is old to have people say the beatles are awesome. yes, This is an awesome song......that sounds exactly like something Paul McCartney would have done years before. and I would hardly call this under rated. It gets played world wide all the time. I like the beatles more. So what.

  • @211FairyTale Meh, you know what? Sorry about that latest reply I just sent you...I did not mean to be rude to you. Just been a really long day. bad mood. I apologize.

  • Or wait, did it even send the reply? Maybe not :P haha, okay, maybe I don't look like so much of an ass then. :P

But yeah, I do like the beatles more...That is not just a band wagon thing. It is my personal opinion. Nothing more nothing less. You know what a great song is? Joe Cocker, live at woodstock... with a little help from my friends.... He even blew the beatles out of the water with that one! :)

  • @TheLonersManual You sent the replies, yeah, but that's OK, no harm! Thanks for apology. These are all amazing bands, I too love the Beatles, & Cocker of course. I guess Badfinger gets a special place in my heart cuz they were so cheated... but ALL are amazing bands!!! Peace :)

  • What a great sound....BADFINGER FOREVER!

  • great song

  • one of those songs, whose make my heart beating harder and harder..

  • Someone should really make a movie about this group. Not enough is known about them. I know many would want to know about this dynamic group and partnership of Ham and Evans.

  • My very favorite band and I'm 49. Too bad that we didn't get more of them.

  • Very Beatle-esk

  • Looks like Cymru/ Wales ....proper welsh farm look

  • They just got side swiped. If they just could of hanged on for a year or longer they would of made it all back. Its got to be heart breaking to work so hard only to be robbed by people who were your so called manager. Happens all the time look at madoff and what he did to alot of people.

  • Talk about a band with potential who only had a few chances to shine. This was one of their shining moments. No cover has ever come close to equaling the original.

  • great song.

    RIP Tom & Pete.

  • mpm111144 you lucky dog. You got to see pre-Beatlemania Beatles. Man.

  • Yes, this is a huge song/recording!

  • Fuck you Stan Polley....

  • 12 weeks on the charts; peaked @ # 8

    No Matter What

    Badfinger

    October 31, 1970

  • * * * * *

  • One of the saddest stories of all time - I started writing a screenplay for this, but it is just too sad (still consider it at times, but I'm torn up about it.)

  • @klaratava I wish someone would write and make a movie about them with all their songs in it. I will definitely watch it.

  • @klaratava you should pursue it anyway. would be interesting. On this side of the Atlantic a

similar fate happened to Creedence Clearwater Revival and Three Dog Night inasmuch as

getting shafted financially without the horrible fate of Ham and Evans.

  • This song is magic. I will always remember it.

  • Badfinger No Matter What The old one,s still the best

  • George Harrison produced this band..... George liked a good pop song

  • is it me.. or does one of them sound like paul mccartney when they sing "knock down the old gray wall" and "if you would give me all" ?

the drums sound like ringo's beats too... sigh... i <3 the beatles and i can just hear it in this song. lol

  • @aurieaurora Didn't Paul produce some of their stuff ?

  • @LJH70122 Paul wrote and produced Come and Get It

  • @LJH70122 and sang background harmonies on this.....could be george on guitar...that is definitely a GH chord at the end of the solo... that could account for why the song is great

  • Great Song Great Year for tunes

  • damn this song is good, im sad that two of the member commited suicide

  • George Harrisons sggggg

  • I'm 66, saw The Beatles when I was in the U.S. Navy in Hamburg, Germany in 1962, then again in Liverpool in 1963. Was very aware of Badfinger, even before they went by that name. All the music, from the mid 1950's through the 1970's was, and always will be...THE GREATEST MUSIC EVER!!! Oh...and my last name is McCartney. I play the guitar, bass, and drums. And....I'm left handed. Rock 'n Roll Forever!!! :D)

  • @mpm111144

No wayyyyyy I love this song Sir PM lol

  • @mpm111144 I wnat to be your friend!!!

  • @shaikhymx You were accidentally deleted from adding you as a friend. Send another request, and I'll click approve. Sorry about that. Take care. :)

  • this is way before my time...but I LOVE IT... real music with heart ... gimme this, a side order of 80's glam rock and a few big fat one's ( ;) ) and I'll catch you in a few days, lol :)

  • Ah, walking through a field with the sun at your back. You could do that when you were in a real rock band. Worked for The Doors too!

  • U2 SUCKS!!!!

  • the '70s kicked ass. I wish I couldve been there to see them happen

  • @chakadoodledoo I was there but 10 years old, but I loved this song

kids loved real rock and roll back then

  • they showed so much promise, man.

    RIP pete

  • The best video I've seen for " No Matter What". Great Job.

  • brilliant song....timeless classic

  • These guys always had awesome guitars and their tone still holds up today.

  • I immediately fell in love with Badfinger after seeing und hearing this clip. As a hardcore Beatles fan, I would discribe the feeling as "discovering another sun behind the sun" :D !!! Got to get their records, no matter what!

  • Aside from the Beatles themselves, this was the best band on Apple Records I ever heard.

  • The record industry sh*t of these guys.So much talent and they got hosed.

  • The first single I ever bought, still one of my favourites. I heard a UK radio announce it as "The best record ever made".

  • This is the song that invented powerpop. Badfinger came along recreated the category and gave something every kid could aspire to (if interested in melody harmony and cool rock look).

    Bless them

  • @corkpopfrance I think the Kinks beat Bad Finger to the powerpop idea by quite a few years. You Really Got Me is probably the first powerpop tune to make it big.

  • @RobbieReineldt

You really got me invented "metal". It is not powerpop and never was nor will ever be considered as powerpop.

Find out who Greg Shaw was then you will learn what powerpop is. I'm just trying to help. You are side tracked.

  • This is the first time I saw this video, I had pictures of Badfinger from this video and now can relate it to the time period. Got the pics in the 80s from a fan club.

  • Great song. Great band. When are they going to make a movie about this band? If they were given the chance, they would be up there with the Stones, Beatles, Elvis Presley, up there with legends... What am I saying?! Peter Ham is a legend. Miss you.

  • Badfinger was one of the best bands of the 1970's the continued where the Beattles left off. It was just a shame that bastard Stan Poley ruined Petes life and his family .

  • Sounds just like the beatles...

  • I heard this on Magic 1161 (East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire) the other day when they featured hits from a 'golden year' (1971 I think it was). It sounded brilliant and took me back to my last year in school.

  • This is a great example of a band copying the Beatles sound with great results. This is actually a better song than nearly anything the Beatles released in 1964.

  • @BloozeDaddy76 Okay...now you sound stupid.

  • if the beatles did this song it would probably have been the biggest song in world history

  • @pabruins2013 Ya right!!! We are talking about BADFINGER here. What the hell are you doing here. This could never be anyone else song but Badfinger's. They could have been bigger than the Beatles themselves if they were given a chance to live but these guys were trampled on by Apple Records (you know who owned this), Warners, Joey and his very dead wife and another dead wastrel Polley.

  • @pabruins2013 Understood tq for the explaination. It bothers me so much that BF will always be only second to the Beatles. I want them to be known as themselves, to stand on their own and to be recognised as BF and never be compared to the Beatles or as their protege or a band signed to The Apple Records. I think they are so great and I just simply love their music. If I could turn back time I would like to undo Pete's death. I hope I am not offending anyone by saying this.

  • @nicky196427 Know what you mean by turning back the clock for Pete but don't forget Tom Evans also took his own life due to the inner workings of Bad Finger , They where great song writers in their own right but was kicked in the teeth by bad management, Nothing to do with the Beatles maybe it would have been differant if either John, Paul or George took them under their wing who knows? but you cannot turn back time so lets just enjoy what thety left behind , Not offended in anyway

  • @bluesy365a

Different Sorry for spelling mistake !!!

  • @bluesy365a did I say the Beatles had anything to do with their deaths? I merely said that they would be onIy 2nd best. I'm not a nit-wit to believe that time travelling is possible. We all know It is infinitely impossible even if Einstein was alive. It was just my wishful thinking. Just like when you said they could have being taken under the Beatles' wings. That could have being a reality and a different story, I have being enjoying their music since 6 years old. No need for you to tell me.

  • @nicky196427

did I say that the beatles had anything to with their deaths ?? No I did'nt I said management ! Plus did I say that you thought time travell was possible again No !! So you have enjoyed the music since you where 6 with out me telling you to do so, again I never told you to enjoy the music I said "so lets just enjoy what they left behind"

So why being so aggresive ?? I wrote my opinion and put not offeded in anyway at the either I did offend you or you never read it properly.

  • @bluesy365a Why did you even bother to reply to my comment meant for someone else in the first place. I have been in this page for sometime now and have been enjoying it immensely. This page is like heaven to me. Now I am a little afraid of it. I wonder why?

  • @nicky196427

I can tell you why because you are either a nit picker or just want some one to argue with Dont worry about being afraid as I will not comment again as I seem to offend you , I dont know your age but I think youi should grow up , and comments are left for all to see and respond to if the reader wants to .

  • A very Beatles-sounding song! Also, try comparing "break down the old gray wall" music to the music done by the Beatles when they, in "Baby's in Black", sing "oh, how long will it take ...".

  • Ah, just one of those classic rock songs that is SO GOOD you almost want to CRY! Such great vocals, instrumentation, production, etc., etc. One of rock's saddest tales right here. And you thought Moby Grape's story was heartbreaking!

  • great track just heard it on COME DINE WITH ME GLASGOW

    hit and fav

  • ... I was friends with the drummer (Mike Gibbons) son, Adam. ... Oviedo, FL man. Weird to think back on that shit. People should check out The Seven Sisters, Mike's son is the drummer of that band now.

  • ....here i am in the 70s again-who can blame me with stuff like this on the scene...

  • Ok, Not the first time s Label fell apart right? Not the first time a music group got screwed over by their management or their label right? If one of them had been terminally I'll or had some Bi Polar problem the deaths would be more understood. Still not acceptable though. So many others have had it 100 times worse they keep trying. If these two had kept trying they would have made it to top again. Talent can't be hidden for too long once it's been discovered. And money is just money. How'

  • @Davesintexas

    - "Not the first time a band got screwed over"

    - "Others had it 100 times worse...."

    - "If these two would've kept trying they would've made it to the top again"

    - “money is just money”

    Such brilliant deductions! Thanx!

It's terribly unfortunate when people comment on this band not knowing enough to actually make any sense.

Texas, you obviously haven't read much on Badfinger. You haven’t watched the 6-part documentary on the JulieSpecial3 channel. Start there!

  • @VenusCapricorn Hi Venus. You're right again. Nobody had it stuck to them like Badfinger.

  • @Davesintexas Can you name another band that was screwed to death or a 100 times over and recovered. Maybe then i would believe you that BF could have recovered.

  • WOW!! WOW!! WOW!!

    AMAZING CLIP AND QUALITY!! I

I LOVE people like you on youtube that share such RARE clips!!! AMAZING!!!

    THANK YOU !!!

  • I know Tom Evans is telling the truth of what he says about joey. Everything he says I agree 100% - bless him. Tom tells Craiter he always wanted to put on a good road show, which joey never did. That's evident! As the lack of money/resources became greater, it's amazing how Badfinger stayed strong in the time they did, their hits are the result.

If Pete,Tom, & Mike could've looked into the future to see this:

Google *joey molland without you lipsync brazil*

    Imagine their reactions.

  • I fuckin love this song.

  • I love their songs, wish they had worked things out.

  • I'm Angela's hubby, Bill and don't have a Facebook, but want to dedicate this to her. Classic Rock lives on in all of us. I love you Angela

  • a great song...one of the best..compare this to todays superstars and yes RnR is dead comparatively.

  • @happygleason ....RnR isn't dead....it's just in hibernation mode.

  • Badfinger was really the Pete Ham Group. The other guys were pretty good, but it would never have happened without him. Drugs, infighting and their embezzling Jewish manager finally did him in. Still, for a few years, Badfinger stood tall.

  • @citizenfitz - Stones, Beatles, GNR, Zeppelin, Who...oh I could go on...those bands did not get destroyed by drugs. If there's anything that can kill a band quicker it's EGO and GREED - hence collins, polley, molland &wife. May Pang said it best: When you have scumbag managers everything just goes [so I agree with you there]. BF had nowhere near the drugs the giant groups had.

joey & collins took away far more from BF than they contributed. Polley pigface? Enuf said there.

  • Great song!

  • SEAN BOWELL - I miss you dude! You know we kiocked this song to the next level; at Ft. Lewis, Washigton! - 593rd ASG 1987

  • This must have been at the time when the band shared a house in the countryside, working on songs that would become Straight Up. So nice to live anno 2010 to give this band a life after death on the YouTube. Thanx for sharing this gem ceterceter!

  • Dig the solo, and then backing chords from about 1:40 to 1:48 Just an unreal mix. What a band, what talent, what a tragic, irreplaceable loss...

  • I just wonder that one who cheated their money could live peacefully in his life.

  • @L3S3R4 Well he did, but now he is probably rotting in hell.

  • @nicky196427 Fair !

  • totally agree. Badfinger have more talent in their collective little toenails than bongo and u2 ever had!

  • Love this song :)

  • Wow. Simply Wow. What an incredible song. The potential of this bad likens itself much to the zombies and their album "odyssey and oracle". One that should be a staple, if you're not already familiar.

  • @gregblueyourface I'm gonna go out and get Odyssey and Oracle.

  • Love!

  • I really love this band!!! Saludos desde Perú.

  • Badfinger -- They never had a chance. They got signed to Apple just as The Beatles were divisively splitting. They were naive and trusting of all things involving their management. Pete Ham and Tom Evans never got their chance to be able to collaborate and write the songs they were meant to. Instead we have bits and pieces of something good and the lost promise of what should have been. I celebrate what they left behind and sometimes dream of what could have been.

  • @PALancia1 In other words , Badfinger got the bird .

  • @PALancia1

Their demise is one of the saddest stories in the history of rock and roll music. Ham and Evans both committing suicide, the fact that they were broke....it's a real tragedy....what a loss.

  • I cannot stop obsessing over this absoultely amazing band!!! OMG they were SO AWESOME..God it makes me sick to know what happened to Pete and Tom..WHAT A WASTE!!

  • Very very beatiful and glad song!"!!!!!!! Badfinger forever!!!!!!!!

  • Sadly, Badfinger couldn't really get it going 'cos their manager shafted them so severely. It's too bad, because they were very good. Badfinger just had to be one of the unluckiest bands ever.

  • @cdadave83814 a bad hand was dealt!

  • @happygleason...Pete caved in 'cos of no money to pay bills and a child on the way; he'd never lived in his own place before and he couldn't handle all the despair and took the only way out. Pete had actually left Badfinger for a while, but came back into the band. Sometimes I get the feeling Badfinger Killed Him. And I've never thot things were good between Pete and Joey at any one time. Look at an Iveys photo, they're smiling. Look at a Badfinger photo and hardly anyone's smiling..

  • @cdadave83814 According to Tom Evans, Kathie Molland killed Pete, and Mike Gibbins said it was all fun in The Iveys until Molland came in. Obviously, the callousness of the record companies was a huge factor, too. Have you seen Head Honcho Joe Smith of WBrothers on Badfinger in the doc? He obviously wasn't that excited by having them on the label. WB did nothing to promote them - one single! And the worst track. Then killed off a masterpiece album! Kiss of death...

  • @Kristenbillick I dont care for Molland at all, just think how awesome it would have been if George Harrison joined them after the beatles break up and replaced molland.

  • @Kristenbillick ron got kicked out by Tom, according to ron!

  • @Kristenbillick...I've read that at times, Joey would actually make Fun of Pete, and when I see their footage, Pete always looks so 'alone'. I imagine just being a group with Joey wasn't a good experience, especially if you were Pete. I'm no Badfinger authority, but I feel this way when I watch Badfinger footage.

  • @cdadave83814 - there's a scene in raferduram's No Matter What. In the middle of performance joey is seeking the camera, bobbing his head like he's a fashion model. Camera switches to Pete, and I swear I see a hint of hard, cold disapproval in joey's direction, all the while trying to let it go.

  • @cdadave83814 once stan polley took their 10,000,000? $ [ joey says they played to a million listeners a year] ...how could they smile?

    'hardly anyone's smiling.. '

  • @happygleason...Yeah, Money or a lack thereof, has a lot to do with it. A long time ago, I bought the album "Wish You Were Here" for under two bucks in a cutout bin. I thot, what's this new album doing in the cut-out bins? And after I read Badfinger's history, now I know. Their best-ever album got pulled and then shipped out to the cut-out bins, where no bands got royalties from record sales. How important was Joey to the group? How many of the hits did he write? NONE. So there ya go!

  • great separation between the rhythm and lead guitars, don't get that much separation with other records! thumbs!

  • I don't know why they don't play awesome songs like these at school dances, even if they are oldies. Some oldies just don't die off, and this is one of them in my opinion!

  • Comment removed

  • Notice the use of silence near end of this song. "The Little Girl I Once Knew", by the Beach Boys, also made use of some silence.

  • they sound more relaxed great vid-don't understand why he took his life.

  • @timewarp76 Watch the Badfinger doc which is on Youtube. Pete had was a simply a great musician that got caught up in the wretched business practices of Sam Polley , a vile, ruthless thief who masqueraded as a business manager. Polley stole Badingers money and entangled the band in a web of disastrous recording restrictions that essentially starved the band. There was a mulitiude of circumstances that drove him over the edge.

  • @evelynmh

    Stan Polley wasnt it?

  • @NikDonaghy23 I stand corrected Stan Polley sorry

  • Wow. THEY WERE GREAT.............

  • One of the best songs of the early 70's

  • brilliant :]

  • classic!

  • Love that Gibson Firebird.

  • The stuffed shirt that ripped these guys off should be put on an island somewhere with a pack of wild dogs for company. Read the bio on these guys.....Sad !

  • one of my favorite songs. happy birthday tommy evans! june 5 1947....much <3LOVE<3 to you.

  • this is priceless- i used to be in a band that did this as a cover - simply brilliant - it just shuffles along - at the end of the song me and the guitarist used shout 1234 ...really funny

  • This band is the opposite of U2 (Badfinger: one of the most underrated bands of all time...U2: one of the most overrated bands of all time)

  • @daracenak I cannot agree with you more. Badfinger was sorely underrated and overshadowed. U2 is overrated but they are one of the best bands around in the present day music industry. I would listen to them but not above BF.

  • @daracenak Amen to that brother.

  • @daracenak tell it so bro!!!

  • @daracenak Hell yes. U2 and Bruce Springsteen should team up for a tour and call it Overrated and Overpriced.

  • @daracenak I second that! This was real music! And great clip! Pete has a striking resemblance to Lennon of the Abbey Road era. So sad that Pete and Tom felt such despair they couldn't see any way out but to end their lives.

  • @daracenak Completely agree!
