I get a real chuckle when I realize that some who were considered the best of all time never even recorded Grand Galop Chromatique. I wonder why not ??
When he leans forward to concentrate a bit extra like those left hand octave leaps - it means you cannot play it, even if you are called Letitia or Evgeny.
When he his looking into the distance thinking about lunch, it means I can't play it.
When he's eating his lunch and playing some grade 8 piece with one hand, I probably still couldn't play it as fast.

@tombennettpiano His hands are not small or giant. He has an extraordinary level of dexterity brought through many more hours of pratice than most in his early years. I would guess at least a third of his young life was spent at the piano, probably more. His hands "grew" into the piano to fit perfectly.
No. It depends. I took about a year to learn it this good. Search up "14 Year Old Plays The Grand Galop Chromatique." That's about a year's practice. It all depends on how fast you can learn, and how dedicated you are to the music.
This was one of the Liszt's most commonly played concert tunes when he travelled Europe. He retired form touring at age 35 and stopped taking pay for playing because he was so rich already. He was one of the greatest piano viruosos ever.
Oh cool. I was checking to see if this is a hard song to play..And if thats all there is to it, I'll have it mastered in time for dinner!...In the afterlife.
A brilliant technique like Cziffras tends to bring out envy and the green-eyed monster in others with more puny gifts. Cziffra's super virtuosity suits this piece perfectly!
I thought the piano would collapse, from the sheer pounding he gave it,Cziffra performed at a circus at very young age playing popular songs of the era ,at the call of the audience, totally by ear, only later did he learn to read music. Was this guy a genius,? i think so!
@LisztBusoni I don't know ,I didn't say that I don't like him,but the pianistes that I menchened Are realy in my heart.even kissen or giles are not in there^^
That triumphant glance at the camera at the end is priceless. How can he play so fast (and accurately)? Enhanced neural pathways? Born on Mars? One of the greatest.
i am sorry but how can you compare this to valntina lisitas version????!!!!
He plays it faster and with more expresion...the pauses the work with tempo and sound intensity at this tempo is unbelievable ... this composition is meant to be played fast... so no race but performance.... in comparison to this valentina plays with no emotion, no passion, no musicality at all and even slowly.
Valentinas version is of course nice but must not!!! be compared to this....
@SuperVincent1996 well, i'm the 'eighth'. This is pathetic, it really is, I don't understand how people can't see it, and are so impressed by sheer speed. it's comical - someone slow the tape down please!! It's a monstrous destruction of the music, there is no majesty whatsoever. Plain stupid. Such great technique.. so what? what use without artistry? Cziffra has the musical intelligence of a 7-year old, seriously.
i am sorry but you could not be more wrong. so what? to be able to play at that speed without making any mistakes is truly a sight to behold! it is not meant to be majestic it's meant to be a cleanly executed song showing of technical (thumbs up if you think i'm right) (thumb the other guy if you think he'she's right)
Cziffra's technique is so awesome, that he could have played the entire thing without the the pedal and did indeed play a good portion of it without the pedal. The Galop is also an amazing piece. Consider the daring passage at 2:22; also his use of modality and other advanced harmonies throughout. And remember that this piece was written in 1838.
this was a waste of his talent, though. of all liszt's piano compositions, this is such a junk piece. absolutely no musical thought whatsoever, just a lot of flashy bravado. if only liszt could have been serious more often.
You, teonichelli, some random guy in youtube, thinks that FRANZ LISZT, one of the greatest VIRTUOSOS of all time, should have been more serious at playing piano.

@genomos90 What I find so scary is that he doesn't look that 'pressed' - more in the tank as it were. I love the way he looks into the camera at the end. There is no technically better pianist who ever lived period.
The speed and precise force of each bar is stupifying. By the end, it's almost too much to believe that a human being could have that emotion and ability to play any instrument.
The left hand in this piece at 1.37 to 1.40 is faster moving that any piano I've seen on You Tube. I wouldn't be surprised if his hand is moving faster than someone running! He's jumping 2 octaves in milliseconds.
I just watched a UCTV production where Cecil Lytle played this. It was slower though. So is this guy just showing off or can Cecil Lytle not play it this fast?
Wow the main thing i dont get is that he can play a totally different beat with his left hand while playing a totally different one with his right I'm like DURR xDDD So everytime i try to play a differentbeat my other hand does the same beat
Well I would agree to that, I think though, that Horowitz is regarded so much because he was unarguably massively famous. This is was not the case with Cziffra. Yes, he was famous, but when I asked a couple of my friends outside my musical community, they could make out Horowitz, but not Cziffra, same with my parents. It might be, that many people were no exposed to Cziffra as much as to Horowitz which makes them a little one-track minded.
