@dogdixon I dont think its just about being drafted more like that you are told all the good things about joining up such as the uniform, Respect from your peers, brotherhood etc but its kind of glossed over that you and your mates could get blown to bits and no one really cares(and in the case of Vietnam some aspects of society really disrespected servicemen)
This is the version in which has been best known this song in Greece. The version of Status Quo was also quiet interesting and more rocky, but that of Bolland, with all those military-sound-effects is by far better and more popular.
beautiful song♥

Finally, the song appeared on a Negram single in 1981 or on the RCA/Lark LP in 1982 ?
Seems that the Lark title is "In The Army Now"...

It's an antiwar song (you know, Vietnam war). It's great that we have singers like this. I'm Vietnamese.

To the 'Bolland/Bolland'-experts:
Please tell me one thing. At 1:24, do they sing "Smiling faces on your way to 'Nam" (meaning: Viet Nam)? I mean, it rhymes with '...gives a damn'.
In the Status Quo cover version, it is clearly "... your way to land", which makes less sense, I think.

Yes, you're right - it's about Vienam. Don't know why Status Quo changed it.
