These are great, I have installed them in all manner of stuff like PC cases and home built amplifiers. Just acquired 4 more, need a little work but will be a great addition to my Home theater amp (4 channel bass redirected)
There are much slimmer versions that do indeed fit really nicely into a drive bay but you need to make an AC source to drive the filaments. (inverter off the PC power supply) I don't know what equip they are from as I got them as bare boards from a closing electronics store.
lol its in the right way "the peak word" is -20db, but the real "peak word" is +8db, so its right way. Dont post commend if you dont no anything about electronics.
don't post comment if you don't know anything about users...i've downloaded the diagram...the "peak word" is always on...if you connect it at the +8dB pin you've a good "peak alerter"...(where are you from??)

you're using the display in wrong way...the peak word is in the opposite side of the effective Peak!!!!!

The etheric blue glow of a VFD display is timeless! Bigger charge pump for a slower reacting display as djmk1988 suggests! X)

Nice VFD VU , but the speed is to fast. I think you should change the capacitors at the input (put bigger value ones)
