The dunes apparently are fickle, I was told that the time of the year makes a difference in their sound production. Humidity, temp, ect. You might have just gone at a bad time of the year. Maybe I can make a video on how to get to the dunes I go to.
Where is this located. I went to that place as well, but nothing was singing. I followed the co-ordinates given in marhaba. Do you have any other co-ordinates?
@freestuffin2012 That is something I didn't know! Thanks for the info, going to have to tell my mother to come out here in the summer instead of the winter then.
Well, to be honest it was a bad idea going out there in the summer in the first place. I was new to Qatar and didn't know that the days can reach over 50c.
You can wear shoes but then your feet will burn up and sweat loads, sandals let the sand in and it has the same effect as going barefoot, actually its worse and I think its the reason the Arabs go barefoot for the most part when in the desert.
Thanks for the comments! I wish the sound recording was better so you could really hear how it reverberates. Its truly an amazing thing to experience.

Looks like a good time

According to Wiki and National Geographic, the sound ONLY occurs when the sand is hot. No luck going in the spring.

couldn't you wear shoes or sandals or something to stop your feet from burning?

How long did it take you to hike up the dune? Looks like fun, but I don't like extreme heat!

The dune doesn't take long to climb, couple of minutes if you are in half decent shape. One side is a long gradual incline and the backside is steep.
We went there in the summer but now in the winter it might be too cold to go, try early spring.
