I know men like Rush but...............and BTO before The Guess Who?? Love everything Neil Young has ever done-Harvest has to be one everyone's top albums of all time. And the The Band's The Last Waltz is probably my all time favourite.
If you want to hear some good new Canadian music, check out BARK or Kings and Queens by Blackie and the Rodeo Kings-they are fantastic.
u should check out canadian billoboard top lists. so much vomit. how they sell that crap? I knew rush would be your first choice when I started watching your vid
Nice compilation, not that I agree with all your choices! GODDO, MOXY, Coney Hatch, The Headpins, Toronto, Chilliwack, Five Man Electrical Band , The Stampeders, Downchild, Pat Travers Band, Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush, The [Battered] Wives, Edward Bear, Crowbar, Doug and the Slugs @XxChantelley Supertramp is from England, but they "broke in to the charts" in Canada before the USA.
I can think of a few more before Helix, Our Lady Peace and Stepenwolf. Our Lady Peace, you put that in for a laugh...... right? What about The Band? I would put Justin Beiber in before Our Lady Peace.
When the Band toured as the Hawks, with Ronnie Hawkins, they were one of the best blues/rock bands....in the world. I followed them every where I could, at that time. They were absolutely incredible.
List isn't bad but I'd get Our Lady Peace the hell off of there. Replace them with I Mother Earth. I know Edwin was a douche and they just couldn't make it work with Brian Byrne but they were awesome. Helix was ok but I don't know if they belong. Steppenwolf wasn't completely Canadian. A bunch of bands from the 90's that I'd put on the list before them: Watchmen, Tea Party, Sloan, Big Sugar, Wide Mouth Mason, 54-40, Blue Rodeo, Grapes of Wrath, or from today...the Sheepdogs! Just my opinion.
Wow, good list, where is Loverboy? Where is Triumph? Not that Loverboy deserves #1, but they deserve top 10, what about Heart? Triumph is totally under-rated for what they achieved especially in Europe! They are one of my favorite bands, as far as Heart??? How could you not even have them on the list, good choices though, growing up so close to the boarder (Buffalo NY) I think you really have missed out on alot of great choices who deserve in, I give you credit though.
Good list though mine would be a little different (10 was too hard so I'm going to 20), maybe because I lived through the golden years of Canadian Rock. 1) Rush 2) Bachman / Cummings variations 3) Harlequin 4) Neil Young variations 5) Streetheart 6) Loverboy 7) Tragically Hip 8) Prism 9) April Wine 10) Steppenwolf 11) Nickelback 12) Triumph 13 )Chilliwack 14) Trooper 15) Heart 16 Bryan Adams 17) Tom Cochrane variations 18) Our Lady Peace 19) Queen City Kids 20) Jeff Healey
Youj missed Toronto, Mandala, Luke and the Apostles, Mainline. Sorry but that's just a few. But I still liked your list, but I've been around a bit longer than you. Just sayin'.
Good list! I would think that Loverboy, and Streetheart should be on there though. I would trade out Helix for one of them. You don't hear Helix much at all anymore, but the other two still get played.
I think the most underrated Canadian band is Streetheart. Their cover of under my thumb is awesome. They are in my top 10. I can't say I'd put Helix or Our Lady Peace in my top 10 either, but its your list, who cares what anyone else thinks of it. By sales the number one Canadian artist would be Bryan Adams, funny how no one is saying anything about him in the comments.
uhhhh what about loverboy? pretty sure they beat out our lady peace. 70's and 80's were prime time for canadian bands. How does our lady peace beat out 10 through 7? Raine had some good songs, but not even close to be in the top ten of all time.
Tragically Hip, our lady peace and Helix should not be in top 10, but I agree the other 7 bands in your list are. I'd include Loverboy, Trooper and Prism. I feel the 1970s & early 80s were the best for Canadian R&R.
No McKenzie brothers?! (just kidding).
I'm glad that no one suggested Nickelback to go into the top 10.
Triumph Prisim, Streetheart,Headpins, Harlequin,Chilliwak,Loverboy,Lighthouse,April Wine,Toronto. No disrespect to your list I love every band on it!! These are the bands that I remember from my teens and high school. And yes it was the 80s oh ya one more Rough Trade. Cheers.
I agree Our Lady Piss doesn't deserve to be on there... You should switch that one out with "Platinum Blonde " then maybe just MAYBE you'll be alright ;P
'Heart' might be officially a canadian Band (Vancouver) but Ann and Nancy (the men are draft dodgers) are from the US. Incidentally the girls' dad is USMC Commandant Wilson, MOH
Our lady peace blows. What's it even doing on this list. There are other great Canadian bands that are much more deserving to be on the top 10 list than that band.
What about The Headstones, Teenage Head, Sloan, Spirit of The West, The Watchmen,I mother Earth,The Smithereens, The Forgotten Rebels....man we live in a great country
BTO better than the Guess Who? Ummm.... Helix better than Max Webster????? WTF? What about The Band? The Hawks? Triumph? Blue Rodeo? Saga? Frozen Ghost? Matthew Good? Big Sugar? Odds? Crash Test Dummies? Great Big Sea? Barenaked Ladies? And what about new bands that have done well? Arcade Fire? Wolf Parade? Death From Above 1979? I mean, really... HELIX?????
I agree with albertftwaynes pick, at least more so than yours mine 1 Rush 2 April Wine 3 BTO 4 Neil Young 5 Guess Who 6 Streetheart 7 LoverBoy 8 The Box 9 Triumph 10. Stampeders Most overrated The Hip except one album (fully completed), Bryan Adams. Most underrated April Wine, The Box, Saga Special mention, Klaatu, Red Rider (Neruda), 1/2 of Heart,Pursuit of Happiness, Micheal Pagliaro, and Gino Vannelli who had some Hard rocking keyboards. Thanks for making me think
April Wine 10th and Helix 5th? Really? I doubt many would agree with you. And where is Triumph? It should be 1)Rush 2)The Guess Who 3)April Wine 4)Neil Young 5) BTO 6)Triumph 7) loverboy 8) Tragically Hip 9)Red Rider 10)Triumph
tough call-especially when the doors are wide open (Neil Young and Crazy Horse--?), Hip, Rush, Guess Who, have to be in the top five. If you accept Neil with Crazy Horse as Canadian (why not include The Band?), they're top five. After these four, I'm in the murk of many good bands such as Max Webster, Northern Pikes, Great Big Sea, Spirit of the West, Toronto, 54-40 (who maybe should be in the top five?), April Wine, etc. tough call.
Offenbach, Beau Dommage, Octobre, La Chicane, The Jeff Healey band, Brian Adams, The Box, Blue Rodéo, Les Colocs, UZEB, Maneige, La Bottine Souriante, Les BB, Corbeau etc etc !
@Sidser6 Healy was a wicked awesome bluesman of the highest order, talented as all heckm but idk if his original material would make the top 10 cut tbh. Speaking of which, Neil young and Steppenwolf are reaches on this list. John Kaye is the only canuck in the band i mean i dont consider The Band a canadian act even though Robbie Robertson is Canadian, anyway in those 2 slots i'd suggest Saga and Prism for contention. what do you think?
Calm down, I took the first comment to be a compliment. It hints at the Trailer Park Boys were the writers. That means they were watching, and are fans of Canadian television. :-) And the song choices are great....it must have taken a lot of time with a couple of good friends to come up with this fine list.
Well...where do I start. The positive. YES!!!! RUSH...THE...No. 1 Canadian band of ANY style of music...and you chose my favourite RUSH tune!!! (Peart....THE greatest drummer of ALL time!!!) Nice shot!!! BTO...I woulda rated them No. 2! Again...perfect choice TCOB!!! The not so positive..Our Lady Peace??? Tragically Hip??? NOOOOOOOOOO....Young? He's more Yank than Canadian....hmmm...where's KICK AXE...SKID ROW....PRISM...and T R I U M P H???? Come on man!.....
Tom Cochrane/red rider, the headpins, Kim Mitchell, 54-40, Toronto, Bryan Adams, Loverboy, streetheart, harlequin, and dozens of others. Steppenwolf doesn't belong in that list
What about Nickleback??? What about Kim Mitchell??? OMG!!! For the "love of God, man"!!! What were you thinking?? (tongue in cheek, but still). Good job!-ish!
Where's the Mandala, Grant Smith and the Power, Robbie Lane and the deciples, Little caesar and the Consuls, Shawn and Jay Jackson and the magestics, Rompin Ronnie Hawkins and the Hawks and I could go on forever. Oh and Don't forget the McKenna Mendolson Mainline.
As far as Canada US music...what can anyone say? Nickelback started out strong but seeking better studio/producers and under the advice/or control of the record company their music was pushed into formula mould. Sorry it didn’t turn out so good. I remember so US artists who refused to do the mould music....they were black listed. Good thing Willy Nelson and Waylon Jennings didn’t give up or we wouldn’t have got some great music. How many great rock acts just gave up?
I think it is interesting that so many people say "what about ???". This is one person’s opinion of the top 10 bands in Canada. It's not a decree from the Canadian Government or anything. Make your own list if you think you can do better. There are many bands from Canada, some really good and some...well not so good. Every country can lay claim to and bad groups. The thing is with the right marketing lot’s of weak acts get their little bit of fame. Just cherish what you hold dear.
Rush, Tragically Hip, Helix and April Wine all the way boys!! from: Ricky, Bubbles and Julian of Sunnyvale Trailer Park, Lower Sackville Nova Scotia Canada :D
It started well with April Wine, and Steppenwolf was okay, and I'm willing to agree-to-disagree on the Guess Who/BTO which are effectively the same band. But after that, everything up to #2 is shit.
Even money says the person who made that "list" is from hogtown. It's all Toronto bands or those that moved there, completely ignorant of other bands from elsewhere.
Someone is crazy.......where is The Band? Where is Full Tilt Boogie?Where is Chillawack? Where is Crowbar? Where is Journey? Where is Max Webster? Where is Triumph? where is Mandala? Where's Little Caesar and The Councils? Where is The Diamonds? Where is the Parachute Club? Where is Rough Trade? Whoever you are, you have a lot of homework to do!
Someone is crazy.......where is The Band? Where is Chillawack? Where is Crowbar? Where is Journey? Where is Max Webster? Where is Triuumph? where is Mandala? Where's Little Caesar and The Councils? Where is The Diamonds? Where is the Parachute Club? Where is Rough Trade? Whoever you are, you have a lot of homework to do!
@Christina314 Do you even know what you said?Terrible Canadian Music. You must be 12 or you just have no taste in great music. Most of us Canadian's don't put any other Country's band's down like you so I'm not gonna waste my time educating the ignorant uneducated people! Now go to school and do some homework in music class and you just might learn a few thing's about Canadian Band's so before you put down Canadian band's do some research..
@Christina314 This is what I mean,Canadian's are nothing like you,we have respect for other countries and to say since "I'm Canadian and my opinion doesn't matter",it just goes to show other's that your a stupid little girl with no clue about Canada and our great musician's.So hate Canada and our music all you want because nobody care's about you and your tasteless comment!
@milkboner666 Canada has brought us Avril Lavigne, Sum 41, Simple Plan, Our Lady Peace, Bryan Adams, Triumph, Sarah McLachlan, Shania Twain, Justin Beiber, and worst of all Nickelback. Talk about tasteless...
@Christina314 You still don't get it..Is this all you came up with?Keep on doing some research and you'll be telling yourself soon,"What the hell was I saying,I must sound like I don't have a clue? And what do you mean Canada has brought us?You need to give it up and look at Canada's Rock'n Roll Hall of Fame. Then come back with something worth writing back to.These band's are just a few band's that you listen to because if you didn't you wouldn't know where their from right?
@milkboner666 I don't really need to do any research. If you're looking for bad Canadian rock groups (Bad and Canadian in the same sentence my sound redundant, so please bare with me) that are in the hall of fame, this video show cases them perfectly, as stated in my opening comment.
@Christina314 Why can't you put this to rest like a grown up?You don't know shit about Canadian music therefore you should keep your mouthpiece shut, insulting Canadian musician's.There's not that many people out there like yourself that feel that way about Canadian Music..Maybe you should should watch some documentaries, read, watch more TV,, and then you may change your warped mind.I'm done with you, your type, your insult and your lack of knowledge about great music!
@milkboner666 Ah yes, the tried-and-true "I win because I'm not fighting anymore" argument. Classic Canadian maneuver! Maybe you're right. I should read more, watch tv documentaries and research... that way I can grow and appreciate completely unlistenable music like you!
@GuitarMaster10011 That's an idiotic comment. Pick a rock genre and chances are either Britain or the US has the best one. Rock, psychedelic, surf, punk, metal, alternative, indie, whatever. The US and Britain dominate the genre, what does Canada have? The most talented Canadian band is Rush... I'm sorry, but its a known fact that canadians make some of the worst bands ever. Blame the snow.
Sad thing is everytime I respond to this video I have to listen to the shit over again.
@Christina314 The US havent given shit. What's the best the "United States of America" has given to the world you produce the worst fucking music than any other country. The only bands the US has put out is Bon Jovi and Aerosmith but even Aerosmith were shit after the 80s compared to what Canadians have put out like Triumph, Rush, The Tragically Hip, Max Webster, Coney Hatch, April Wine. I could keep going but im not gonna waste my time on people like you.
@GuitarMaster10011 You sir have got to be the most STUPIDEST dumb fuck of them all if you think the U.S has only produced Bon Jovi and Aerosmith. The U.S along with England are the 2 best music producing nations in the History of the World! Are you forgetting who dominated the scene in the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's? Do you remember WHERE all rock bands took their inspiration from to produce music and revolutionize their style? Was it Canada? Umm, yeah.. right...
@Christina314 So if you dont like Canadian music go listen to that fucking garbage you Americans call music. And sorry about the snow I guess us Canadians are good enough to control mother nature you fucking moron.
@GuitarMaster10011 I'm British and are a bit fed up of the US too...love Australia though!! But the US did have some good sounds in the 60s and 70's like Creedence ClearWater Revival, ZZ Top, The Doors, and such like.......
Not a bad list, but you are missing Blue Rodeo. Also, there is no way, in my mind, that Helix is ahead of April Wine or Guess Who. And, for me, Neil Young is truly number One. But to each his own, as they say.
Where is Nickelback? Gotta put them on the list. Rush was cool but are has beens and they are not even #1. Nickelback is way more orginal then Rush and I think Chad Kroger is a awsome front man and their drummer Daniel Adair could hold his own with the best ever and what about Ryan Peake? He is the best back up ever and Chads older brother Mike who found it. Thats just my opinion!
Pretty good. As another commenter said, I would have a different list but a lot of the bands you put I would include. Don't forget about Prism Streetheart, Trooper, etc..
Like I said, you're entitled to you opinion, but even in terms of longevity and international appreciation Neil Young and Crazy Horse beat Rush. Nickelback is going to break Canada's most sold rock albums record and already has with the amount of sales they have had to the US. Rush does not belong above 3 and with respect to originality Nickelback and Neil Young win. If Rush is "Canada's Led Zeppelin" then that means they are copy cats. Originality was not their strong suit.
You're entitled to your opinion, but if you are truly proud of Canadian bands you would be proud of all of them and not just what you approve of. Nickelback has sold just as many albums worldwide in a shorter period of time and are still going strong. Their new CD is due out in November. We'll see who has sold more when they stop making music. You can't argue with numbers.
I know, CronicAAA mentioned Loverboy. Thanks. The Band is not sick, and is still one of the icons out of the early hippie movement. And yes, the Stampeders deserve more of a mention. They were very good and very popular. There are a ton of other bands that I could have mentioned, too. So, brush up on your Canadian bands to be proud of. There is a long list of solo rockers, too.
You people don't seem to really know the true legacy of current and past greats Canada has. Where's Nickelback?! Rush's time as no. 1 is over and they've been out done. You also forgot Alexsisonfire, Three Days Grace, Simple Plan, Hedley, Marianas Trench, Trooper, Prism, Toronto, the Jeff Healey Band, Five Man Electrical Band, 54-40, the Barenaked Ladies, Lighthouse, Chilliwack, Loverboy, Sweeney Todd, Hawk Nelson, and Thousand Foot Krutch. All have major hits; some classics, some will in time.
LOL I love Helix cause they suck so much and were mentioned on Trailer Park Boys. I don't agree with the list completely, but all bands you mentioned are great....except Helix ;p
Holy Sh*t ... Max Webster, I compltely forgot all about them until I just watched this. Right on. Like you said, your top 10. Some of them might not be mine but thanks for posting this. Rush is my number 1 to though!
Rush at the number one spot is absolutely right, but the underrated, underappreciated 54-40 would rank in top five in my list, way more so than Max Webster or Our Lady Peace.
guess who and april wine are better than helix our lady peace and max webster. and weres alexisonfire, death from above and trooper. total fail worst list ever!!!!! lmao

How many great rock acts just gave up?
southsideronnie 3 months ago
I think it is interesting that so many people say "what about ???". This is one person’s opinion of the top 10 bands in Canada. It's not a decree from the Canadian Government or anything. Make your own list if you think you can do better. There are many bands from Canada, some really good and some...well not so good. Every country can lay claim to and bad groups. The thing is with the right marketing lot’s of weak acts get their little bit of fame. Just cherish what you hold dear.

At least you got #1 right.

This best list is a good example of terrible Canadian music.
Christina314 4 months ago
@Christina314 Do you even know what you said?Terrible Canadian Music. You must be 12 or you just have no taste in great music. Most of us Canadian's don't put any other Country's band's down like you so I'm not gonna waste my time educating the ignorant uneducated people! Now go to school and do some homework in music class and you just might learn a few thing's about Canadian Band's so before you put down Canadian band's do some research..
milkboner666 4 months ago
@milkboner666 I would make an official response to this, but since you're Canadian your opinion doesn't matter.
Christina314 4 months ago
@Christina314 This is what I mean,Canadian's are nothing like you,we have respect for other countries and to say since "I'm Canadian and my opinion doesn't matter",it just goes to show other's that your a stupid little girl with no clue about Canada and our great musician's.So hate Canada and our music all you want because nobody care's about you and your tasteless comment!
milkboner666 4 months ago 2
@milkboner666 Canada has brought us Avril Lavigne, Sum 41, Simple Plan, Our Lady Peace, Bryan Adams, Triumph, Sarah McLachlan, Shania Twain, Justin Beiber, and worst of all Nickelback. Talk about tasteless...
Christina314 4 months ago
@Christina314 You still don't get it..Is this all you came up with?Keep on doing some research and you'll be telling yourself soon,"What the hell was I saying,I must sound like I don't have a clue? And what do you mean Canada has brought us?You need to give it up and look at Canada's Rock'n Roll Hall of Fame. Then come back with something worth writing back to.These band's are just a few band's that you listen to because if you didn't you wouldn't know where their from right?
milkboner666 4 months ago
@milkboner666 I don't really need to do any research. If you're looking for bad Canadian rock groups (Bad and Canadian in the same sentence my sound redundant, so please bare with me) that are in the hall of fame, this video show cases them perfectly, as stated in my opening comment.
Christina314 4 months ago
@Christina314 Why can't you put this to rest like a grown up?You don't know shit about Canadian music therefore you should keep your mouthpiece shut, insulting Canadian musician's.There's not that many people out there like yourself that feel that way about Canadian Music..Maybe you should should watch some documentaries, read, watch more TV,, and then you may change your warped mind.I'm done with you, your type, your insult and your lack of knowledge about great music!
milkboner666 4 months ago
@milkboner666 Ah yes, the tried-and-true "I win because I'm not fighting anymore" argument. Classic Canadian maneuver! Maybe you're right. I should read more, watch tv documentaries and research... that way I can grow and appreciate completely unlistenable music like you!

@Christina314 And what the fuck has the U.S given us? get the fuck outta here.
GuitarMaster10011 3 months ago
@GuitarMaster10011 That's an idiotic comment. Pick a rock genre and chances are either Britain or the US has the best one. Rock, psychedelic, surf, punk, metal, alternative, indie, whatever. The US and Britain dominate the genre, what does Canada have? The most talented Canadian band is Rush... I'm sorry, but its a known fact that canadians make some of the worst bands ever. Blame the snow.
Sad thing is everytime I respond to this video I have to listen to the shit over again.
Christina314 3 months ago
@Christina314 The US havent given shit. What's the best the "United States of America" has given to the world you produce the worst fucking music than any other country. The only bands the US has put out is Bon Jovi and Aerosmith but even Aerosmith were shit after the 80s compared to what Canadians have put out like Triumph, Rush, The Tragically Hip, Max Webster, Coney Hatch, April Wine. I could keep going but im not gonna waste my time on people like you.

pirie008 3 months ago
@GuitarMaster10011 You sir have got to be the most STUPIDEST dumb fuck of them all if you think the U.S has only produced Bon Jovi and Aerosmith. The U.S along with England are the 2 best music producing nations in the History of the World! Are you forgetting who dominated the scene in the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's? Do you remember WHERE all rock bands took their inspiration from to produce music and revolutionize their style? Was it Canada? Umm, yeah.. right...
DanielJoseDiego 3 months ago
@DanielJoseDiego HAHA that actually made me laugh. Thank you sir.

@Christina314 So if you dont like Canadian music go listen to that fucking garbage you Americans call music. And sorry about the snow I guess us Canadians are good enough to control mother nature you fucking moron.
GuitarMaster10011 3 months ago 8
@GuitarMaster10011 I'm British and are a bit fed up of the US too...love Australia though!! But the US did have some good sounds in the 60s and 70's like Creedence ClearWater Revival, ZZ Top, The Doors, and such like.......

Not a bad list, but you are missing Blue Rodeo. Also, there is no way, in my mind, that Helix is ahead of April Wine or Guess Who. And, for me, Neil Young is truly number One. But to each his own, as they say.
bigsoundp 4 months ago
Where is Nickelback? Gotta put them on the list. Rush was cool but are has beens and they are not even #1. Nickelback is way more orginal then Rush and I think Chad Kroger is a awsome front man and their drummer Daniel Adair could hold his own with the best ever and what about Ryan Peake? He is the best back up ever and Chads older brother Mike who found it. Thats just my opinion!
Washingtonstate10 4 months ago
what about triumph? and lover boy?
chunt3131 4 months ago
Pretty good. As another commenter said, I would have a different list but a lot of the bands you put I would include. Don't forget about Prism Streetheart, Trooper, etc..
MyzteryTV 4 months ago
Like I said, you're entitled to you opinion, but even in terms of longevity and international appreciation Neil Young and Crazy Horse beat Rush. Nickelback is going to break Canada's most sold rock albums record and already has with the amount of sales they have had to the US. Rush does not belong above 3 and with respect to originality Nickelback and Neil Young win. If Rush is "Canada's Led Zeppelin" then that means they are copy cats. Originality was not their strong suit.
48lilyofthevalley 5 months ago
Teenage Head deserves a mention as well, little to no commercial success but a great band, as well as Goddo and Rough Trade...Rush is #1 of course
TOSportsFan1990 5 months ago
You're entitled to your opinion, but if you are truly proud of Canadian bands you would be proud of all of them and not just what you approve of. Nickelback has sold just as many albums worldwide in a shorter period of time and are still going strong. Their new CD is due out in November. We'll see who has sold more when they stop making music. You can't argue with numbers.
48lilyofthevalley 5 months ago
RUSH RUSH RUSH!!! RUSH RULEZ!! THE CANADIAN ZEPPELIN =D
93omair 5 months ago
I know, CronicAAA mentioned Loverboy. Thanks. The Band is not sick, and is still one of the icons out of the early hippie movement. And yes, the Stampeders deserve more of a mention. They were very good and very popular. There are a ton of other bands that I could have mentioned, too. So, brush up on your Canadian bands to be proud of. There is a long list of solo rockers, too.
48lilyofthevalley 5 months ago
